Google has started limiting Music device deauthorizations to four per year. This is a major issue as you will show up as a new device if you flash a new ROM or even just wipe data and reload, even on the same device. Those of us who flash frequently and use Google Music will be running into this limit very soon. More info is in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656038
A petition is available as well. I signed the petition and rather than asking for a removal of the limit, I merely asked them to fix their device detection, as this seems to be a valid middle ground that is more likely to yield positive results.

as a work around, I downloaded all of the music I got from Google Music via their PC desktop app, and then use Winamp to create my playlists....

It only authorizes the first time you play something from the cloud. If everything is local, it won't authorize the device.

Although I don't use Google Music, I can see how this could be a serious problem. Signing.

Just saw that too. I'm sure they'll implement something like what they have with the Market, where it uses some time of fingerprint to recognize the device, even across wipes and reloads. I'm fine with the deauthorization limit if they do something like that.

Ok, I understand this probably doesn't pertain to many other Fire users, but maybe it can help a few of you in the same situation as me.
I have my own Amazon account, but my wife and I share kindle and mp3 since buying books and music twice is just dumb. On our phones this is fine because each app allows you to log in as anyone you want. The Kindle Fire combines log ins for all Amazon services, and even puts your name up in the corner. This sucks because I would rather use Joe's Kindle, not Heidi's, and I shop Amazon a lot, but we use my Wife's accounts for books and music. So I was having to live without my music while having my wife lend me books over and over, which then stopped them from being available on my phone... I know, first world problems. Anyway, after rooting (not necessary for this, though, you can just side load) I noticed there was an update in the Android Market for the Kindle app, which I instinctively downloaded. It allowed me to install it over the system app and log in as my wife, without affecting the rest of the accounts on my Fire. Only down side is I no longer have access to the books tab (its empty), and have to use an alternate launcher to use the kindle app now since it doesn't show up in the native app list. Oh well.
After that worked, I decided to try it with the mp3 app, which I pulled from my phone and side loaded, since the one on my Fire didn't show as needing an update in the market. This time, the native tab didn't go dead at least.
Sent from my Digital Brick
Edit: After a reboot the music tab works again, updated post.
I have been working on this for a while and just figured out that if you rename the system app com.amazon.dcp.apk to com.amazon.dcp.apk.bak it will essentially seperate the amazon apps from the device allowing different logins for the apps.
Edit: Here's a link for anyone not familiar with renaming apps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385301
Sounds good, my mp3 player app reverted back to linked after a second reboot. Just one question, does this kill the tabs in the native launcher? No big deal if it does since I've switched to ADW, just curious. Probably going to reroot my Fire tomorrow and use your suggestion, and disable the Amazon Appstore redirect, too.

I just checked and all the tabs seem to be working fine.
Ok, that works, but it stops you from registering your Kindle. Don't know exactly what that means, but it's a little concerning since I dropped $45 on the warranty. Does yours just say "My Kindle" in the corner? I tried registering it in settings and it won't go through. Oh well. Think I'm just going to copy all the music over to my account.

Unfortunately I bought mine used and have been having trouble trying to get it registered so mine has always just been "My kindle", that was my driving force behind trying to figure this out. Sorry I was unaware of that issue.
I just flashed my ROM to cm9 from cm7 and installed the google apps package.
When I log in open Android Play (same account), and go my My Apps, all my previously downloaded apps and purchases are there still there, but none of them say 'PURCHASED'. They now list the purchase price of the app. Essentially, it's not recognizing I purchased any of my apps.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
EDIT: If I go on my computer and visit https://play.google.com/store, My purchased library still exists and I am able to install it via send to phone.
So really, it's a matter of inconvenience.
I read an Engadget article saying this is happening to a ton of people and Google is aware and working to rectify it.

I've seen this exact problem no where else on the internet. I'm flabbergasted.
Google drive refuses to open any document at all on my sidekick, and no one else on the internet has gotten this error message.
"Google Documents Error
Google documents has encountered an error. Please try reloading the document."
I'm using Ricandroid's NexusJB. I would post in his thread but I can't post in development yet. Its a great build otherwise and I'd like to avoid having to reinstall from scratch. Anyone else have this issue?
I do not have this problem. Do you have your Google account set up to sync in Settings>Accounts and Sync?
Yep, it is. Gmail and talk and contacts all work. I'm thinking its some kind of incapability with memory resources maybe? Its a blank denial on all doc types. I wish I were better at coding and linux to figure this out, but I'm too much of a newbie atm.

Yeah I have, multiple times. I thought it may be droidwall but like the poster in your link says, it does load a docs list and allows me to make a doc offline. I didn't find this after many searches.. thanks for that.

Yeeeah so it was droidwall. I found out after uninstalling it. I guess it was lying when it said it was allowing google drive. I think google drive relies upon other internet processes to function besides itself.
Thanks for your input!
Edit: Nope!
I thought it was droidwall, but I had uninstalled google drive at the same time. It seems its the new update that breaks drive functionality.
It seems the solution is to block updates. Google drive conveniently offers that functionality in its settings.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda app-developers app
Google Drive partially works right now when updated but the reason you can't open your documents may be that one of libs is missing in your /system/lib directory. They could have added more in the update that are otherwise seperated from the old version on your system memory.
Just a though I have had the problem once before, but I can't remember exactly how I fixed it.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda app-developers app
The latest version of Drive works fine for me. I did not have it installed at all, so I had a fresh install (not an update). Maybe try removing it completely (not just the updates) and reinstall. Is your Drive installed as a system app or user app? If it's a system app, you'll need to use something like Titanium Backup to remove it.
This would make sense. It is an uninstall able system app, so maybe the updates libraries are broken by that.
I'm reluctant to try uninstallong with titanium as its working now. Ehh I'll probably do it in a bit and let you guys know.
Would you know how to find out which libraries Drive uses, zydrate?
Edit: Aaand its broke again and I forgot to make a backup... whoops.

I think google drive app that comes with ricandroid's nexus JB is the only one that will really work. Does anyone know if he packagaes google apps with it? If I could find the right package for the sidekick I could avoid a rom reinstall maybe.
I'm surprised there are barely any other sidekick users with this problem!! I'll post later to let you guys know if that holds true, and if a titanium backup would restore an uninstalled google drive's functionality.
It doesn't make sense to me that only the Drive app that ricandroid bundled with his nexusJB ROM would work. If that were the case, then anytime the app updated from the Play Store, it would break, and as you said, no one else seems to have a problem with it. I think the problem is on your device--maybe a dependency has gotten corrupted or gone missing. But you could always send ricandroid a private message and ask him what version he used, if he modified it, etc. You said it's working right now, so why not make a backup of it in case it starts acting up again?
I though it was working.... but it wassnt.
I finally reinstalled the JB build, which for some reason kind of made it faster?? Maybe a second wipe freshened it up.
Google drive was working initially, I tried updating it, it broke it again, and a titanium backup restored functionality successfully. So I still don't know what's wrong. Maybe a slightly corrupted ROM?
Ill try messaging ricandroid one of these days.

I don't know why the update keeps breaking Drive. I posted a query on the nexusJB thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162745 for you. We'll see what responses we get.

The only response so far is that someone saw on g+ that several people still running 2.x are having an issue with google drive. Of course, everyone using the SK4G is still on 2.2. May just be a random issue.
I got another response that someone is using ES File Explorer File Manager to access Google Drive. I didn't know you could do that, but apparently you can access a lot of cloud services using that app (which is a good one, and free). Just search for it in the Play Store.

I was watching the thread. Just posted in there as well now that I'm up to 10 posts. Thanks for your help with this, but I think I'll just stick to having updates disabled. Whatever google drive is being updated with, its nothing I can see as it has perfect functionality.
It appears Google has once again started limiting the number of devices All Access users can deauthorize on an annual basis. This is definitely a problem for us Flashaholics. I searched to see if there was an announcement. I see nothing listed, but I was personally denied removing any devices. Google states I've deauthorized too many devices. I'd hate to go searching for a new music service, but it looks like I have no choice. Your thoughts?
have you
tried using titanium backup pro to revert android ID?
I thought this had been announced a while ago and the limit was 4 times a year or something like that? I remember reading about this before though. Although my understand was that was the limit of deactivating ALL devices and not the individual devices which I thought that was still unlimited. Might have to look around again for that so I can make sure
Edit: I had misread. Here's an article I found from android central http://m.androidcentral.com/google-play-music-now-limits-you-4-mobile-device-deauthorizations-year
I remember the announcement back in August. Shortly after, it was reported Google decided not to implement this policy. Now it appears they decided to enforce their earlier decision.

I don't have local music stored on my phone.. the downloaded music I have is a few playlists off of spotify for when I'm on a plane and since you can't have your cellphone radios on and even if you could there's no signal..
So I don't know, but I doubt it works as a music player for your local music files..
there's really no need to (unless you have limited data or listening to music on a plane)

I almost jumped to Spotify, until I read that only one mobile device can be connected at the same time. If one device is connected, and another starts using Spotify, the first device will pause. I can see my 2 teenage daughters getting frustrated trying to figure out why the service keeps pausing. Lol.
Google allows all trusted devices to play at the same time. I'm set for now. Google reset the account for me. This gives me time to research some options.
i had a very screwy incident when i tried to deactivate two devices - i ended up getting two notices that i cancelled my service. i did get to reactivate at the 7.99 price though and got it confirmed that deactivation are not per calendar year, but each deactivation is freed up after 12 months.
i've got my m8 listed twice - once for the GPE rom and the other for the sense ROM. anyone know if there are any problems restoring an ID across different OS versions?
Spotify will sync across all devices on the same account. So it's not useful for a family on one account. It's great for an individual person though. I've had music playing on my PC, opened the app on my phone and changed the song from a different room entirely. Same thing works with my tablet. I was streaming a playlist during a BBQ had a friend complain he didn't like the song but didn't want to get out of the chair to change it. I grabbed my phone and handled it.... like a boss.
But yeah, family plan is not possible with Spotify.
@mjs2011 You can use your local music as well. The only stipulation to that is that you have to have a paid account. You can all your own music plus Spotify music to a playlist on the PC, open the app on your phone and set it to be available offline and Spotify will download all the music from them and your own PC to your phone.
Could just be me, but as long as I removed the devices from inside the mobile app it lets me remove as many as I want. If I try through chrome on my desktop or laptop it tells me I have run out of deactivations. Really strange, but I'll take it.

one of my deactivations was via the web for a phantom tablet (listed twice for rom flashing), the other was via the device that i decided i won't use play music for any more. i got two notifications of cancellation of service and verified on phone that i only had 1 cancellation left until oct this year. maybe there was just a bug on that day.
my m8 is listed twice and my gn10.1 twice.

I have already tried this tip Cnet (unable to post link since I am kind of new too XDA), but in my country there are only tech support via email (the other one was with phone call) which I have yet to recieve a response). it's sad that google passed the blame on to the music providers for having to implement this, but it's their fault for implementing it so ****ty. even amazon's deactivation is better than this crap.

Check out this thread. I started using this app recently. This app will backup & restore your device ID. I've flashed many roms since I came across this app. It works as advertised, and doesn't add to my device count in GPMAA.
Here's what I do. Make sure you backup your current rom first. It's just good practice.
1. Download and install app.
2. Run app and backup your device ID.
3. Copy the folder to your SD card. This is so you'll have a copy should you format your internal storage.
4. After flashing your rom and downloading all your apps. Copy the folder to your internal storage. Do not open GPMAA.
5. Run app and restore your previous ID.
6. Profit.
Like I said, I flashed several rom and haven't had any devices added to my list. Worst case you can call Google and nicely ask them to reset your device list.

Hey everybody,
some of you might have known this app, but that hasn't been updated in a while. I therefore decided to fork the "new" beta a few months back, and I got that working again and extended it a bit.
What is it?
Basically, it's an app that takes the cached and downloaded songs of Google Play Music, adds ID3 tags to them from the database of GPM, searches for covers online, and saves all that together in an MP3 wherever you want.
Bug reports and Feature Requests:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or in the matrix discussion room. If you find any bugs, or have feature requests, please check the issue tracker on github, if you can't find it, report it there, post in this thread, or write a message in the discussion room linked above.
Download:
You can download the app either on F-Droid, or XDA-Labs. Please note though, that the release to F-Droid is a bit faster, since it is automatic, and I only add a release on XDA-Labs, after it has been successfully published to F-Droid.

Thank you so much for your rework of the initial app !
This is now working again (Galaxy S6 under LL) and actually perfect !
I love the concept of this app, however I'm having issues. No matter where I set the export location (internal or external) or where Google has the music saved (again, internal or external), the app gets through a few hundred songs then seems to freeze on one randomly. The app doesn't crash or give me an error, it just seems to stop working. This is regardless of whether the device is awake, asleep, running other apps, running nothing, etc. It seems to move progressively slower in exporting each song until it just decides to stop.

Well, I guess if I post this here, I should be able to check every now and then, just changed the description above, post issues wherever you want, I'll collect them on github ^^
On to your issue however: There have been a few people reporting this on the original app, and so far, I have not found the cause. However, using the automatic export, I have seen a few hundred songs getting exported without any delay, so maybe unifying the export calls of these two operations might help.

Music Mate is different in a two key points:
Closed Source and "needs" a lot of permissions, in addition to costing money.
Interacts with the Google Servers instead of the local storage.
The first one is a big problem for privacy reasons, you're giving yet another company data about you, that they can use for whatever they want. The second is even worse, since that means that Google can find out about you ripping music/violating their terms of service, without even looking on your phone. This is true for any app using unofficial Play Music APIs.
If you are going to use something like that, I'd recommend GMusicProxyGui. That is free, open source, and probably even uses the same backend (gmusicproxy) for downloading the songs.

Ah true true. I didn't even think about that. I used to use a program for Windows (Song Spout) that did basically the same thing and cost $10 a year (originally). It probably used the same method as Music Mate.
I've been using Music Mate because I've been running my phone unrooted for a while due to that damned Safety Net. Thankfully, my tablet is in the "couldn't care less about Safety Net" group so this will work on it.
