Yes it is true you do not require screen protector if your phone has a Gorilla Glass display. It is more strong, hard and Scratch proof than a normal phone glass display. So you can stick out your screen protector

CHARACTERISTICS
Corning® Gorilla® Glass provides exceptional performance and protection, with distinct advantages over other materials.
Damage resistance: Gorilla Glass is chemically strengthened through an ion-exchange process that creates a deep compression layer on the surface of the glass substrate. This layer acts as “armor” to reduce the introduction of flaws by end users.
Thinner form factor: Depending on application and manufacturer specifications, Gorilla Glass can be produced in thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mm to 2 mm. Even at 0.5 mm, Gorilla Glass retains a performance advantage over other cover materials.
Unparalleled surface quality: Corning’s proprietary fusion process gives Gorilla Glass the same superior surface as all of our high-technology display substrates. This extraordinarily precise, highly automated process produces glass with exceptionally clean, smooth, flat surfaces and outstanding optical clarity.
Compliance with environmental standards: Gorilla Glass is compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS).
Compatibility with touch screens: Gorilla Glass is an ideal cover sheet for touch screens. It’s tough enough to handle the surface pressures intrinsic to these devices, and exceptionally thin to enable more sensitive and accurate responses.
Easy-to-clean, wear-resistant coating: Customers can request Gorilla Glass with a special coating, making it easier to clean than other cover glasses – a perfect feature for touch devices.
But if you want to sell your phone one day , it is better to use a protector with it . Because nothings perfect.

I've had and atrix for a while and dropped it from a considerable height facedown onto hardwood, completely shattering the screen. While waiting for my replacement to be shipped to me, I thought I'd do some testing on the scratch resistance of Gorilla Glass. Scraping keys, nails, and other various objects across the screen caused no damage whatsoever to the surface of the glass. Make a long story short, the screen protectors are a scam in my opinion.

im not using screen protectors and i didn't feel any need to, the past month.

screen protectors can actually help from having your digitizer shatter when dropperd, for it spreads the shockwaves out pretty nicely.

Not Necessary, but nice to have.
I've got a Galaxy SII (I777) and have had it for about 6 months or so.
It's got Gorilla glass and although I can't say I've been stupid enough to purposefully put a key to my phone or TRY to scratch it with my nails or anything like that, I can say that I literally have no REAL scratches on the screen. There are a few microscratches, and when I say a few that means less than 20 (and I literally have to put a light right up against the phone in order to see them.
I've had my phone without a screen protector for about 5 out of those 6 months. A case covering it (Case-Mate Barely There) and had the phone in my pocket (not against keys) and on the desk, bed, - dropped it a couple times, can't say I dropped it on the screeen; if so I didn't see any marks) for about 2 months, and in a case for the rest. Currently using a screen protector ONLY BECAUSE, I realized after about 3 months or so that the oleophobic coating on the screen was starting to wear off cus I was getting more smudges, and more finger prints, and it was harder to clean.
Tried a Matte screen protector despite all the warnings (really wanted no finger prints but after about 2 weeks decided it was a piece of **** for dimming the colors so much that I got a crystal clear instead - btw SGP is great) and am happy with it atm. I could go bare screen instead of having the crystal clear on but I'd rather have it cus it's a little nicer to use than the screen after the oleo has worn off. My $0.2, since I've been through the situation myself a few months ago. Hope you make good decisions, best of luck to ya.

You can get away with skipping a screen protector if your device has gorilla glass, as it'll be far more resistant to scratches, etc than normal glass would be.
I wouldn't say it's impossible though.. I myself use screen protectors even with gorilla glass, just for events you can't predict, more or less for peace of mind.

Oh yeah?
+1 on the "peace of mind" aspect. What protector/kind do you use?

Screen protectors are very helpful
I sell on ebay and i find alot of people undervalue them
I found that alot of the phones i buy that didnt have a case of screen protectors seem to look so old the term Like New can not be used when selling them
Screen protectors are the way to go if you dont have one you will get small and annoying marks on your phone gorrila glass or not
the fact is the concept of the glass is there but the fact is It will get scratched yes i know but they called it gorrilla glass but trust me i am sure even a banana would scratch the thing so be safe USE PROTECTION ( yes i know it feels better without) But there is a reason why they called it protection!!!

I'd definitely recommend one if your not planning on using a case. gorilla glass hardly ever scratches but why take the risk if you can find a decent screen protector?

Lolllll, the words of a wise man.

maybe...maybe not
Some things seem like a good idea, and with a screen protector, it definitely would not hurt...
but I have never used a screen protector on my iconia a500 or my ZTE x500 phone. I have long fingernails, my phone gets tossed into my purse with all sorts of other things...never a scratch.
So maybe screen protectors are like wearing suspenders AND a belt...just to be safe. I just think they are a pain to put on well and a waste of money.
YMMV.
Pyra G.

Definatly, why would you want those annoying mini scratches when you can protect your phone.Plus they are damn cheap too

My 2 week old HTC One X with Gorilla glass now has a nice tactile scratch in the middle of the screen from my wife stacking it with her BlackBerry Bold on top of it in the car's cup holder. So yes, I'm going to buy a screen protector now.

For the price of a screen protector its worth the extra protection gorilla glass can be scratched/chipped.

Yeah, I choose to use one. I don't have a gorilla glass phone (Evo 4g), but I have noticed on several phones that even my thumbprints eventually make micro scratches. I just got my mom a Gnex for mothers day, and I think it has gorilla glass, but first thing I did was put a screen protector on it. Cuz, once you notice scratches, there's no undo button.
Also, good example, the day I unboxed my moms gnex, she was standing there with me. We were in kitchen. Gnex was on kitchen counter. She was holding a copper .75" plumbing pipe that had just broken at her house. The end of it was twisted and shredded and sharp. While she was rotating it showing me something on it, the sharp, jagged end was grinding across the screen of her phone that was just delivered and not even activated yet. I saw it happening and turned white as I shoved the pipe end away from screen. Then she turned white. You could see deep scratches.
The OEM plastic screen protector that the phone ships with was still on the screen. I peeled it back, terrified that scratches went all the way thru.
Nope. Clean glass. Screen protector saved ass.

Hahaha **** dude, that's like the worst of the worst. Good luck with your mom's screen man

Gorilla Glass
I've had my Galazy S2 since October 2011 and installed a screen protector on it even before I knew it had Gorilla Glass so I can't make any comparison, but I'm sure it looks like new if I were to remove it. Just a newbies 2 cents worth.

I don't see what the fuss is, I have screen protected all my phones and i can't tell the difference with it on or off.... Its just one of those small things that cost nothing and will give you peace of mind. I always use the clear ones and if they do happen to get scratched or rough then just replace it. They are worth pennies.

To all new Captivate owners...

Buy a case!
I was showing off how well my phone took Asphalt 5 and as I was unlocking the phone and about to slide to my second page of apps to show my friends a video I recorded, the super-slim Captivate slid out of my hands and onto the ground! I'm not a short guy at all so it fell about five feet onto bare concrete on its corner, bounced, and fell again on its side before landing face down.
So now I have beautiful cracks running through the glass on my Captivate. The touch sensing layer seems to be undamaged as is the display (and the rest of the phone? there were no scratches or dents anywhere except the screen..) which STILL managed to stay fingerprint and scratch free. Just too bad it didn't handle a drop too well.
I realize this is an extreme scenario but if you find your self fumbling with your phone because it's so thin (the last phone I had was a HTC Tilt2) you should really consider buying a case!
Thankfully I had insurance from AT&T and I got it from Costco so I have a 90-day exchange policy. I think i'll take the latter since it's free.
The moral of the story is that the Gorilla glass on the Captivate CAN be broken, so get a case if you're not confident about being able to keep the Captivate from hitting the ground!
Keep your phone safe!

Be careful. I understand that the body glove cases can cause superficial scratches to the exterior of the phone too.
Got a $3 black silicone case from Amazon. I love it.
Posted from my Captivate
Ebay has some that ship straight from Hong Kong that are molded perfectly for the phone and they throw in a screen protector also. I have a black silicon one but they sell all colors and it's a nice case. I may get one more for a spare but I think one will last pretty long. It even covers the side buttons but is molded to have them stand out from the case.
I second the recommendation for the Body Glove case. Bought mine online for $18. It's grippy, doesn't become sticky, keeps it shape, and allows me to easily remove it to change the battery when needed. After getting this case, I learned the Galaxy S face is made of Gorilla Glass. Upon seeing the wacky Korean video showing the level of abuse it can take, I pulled off the BodyGuardz film.

Bought one of these too, like the second day I had it. Also bought some screen protectors.
As far as the BG case causing scratches, There are some minor spots on the darker gray parts (like the one you slide to open the back) where it looks like the case has rubbed a bit onto it. Not that big of a deal for me. I'd rather have some minor scuffs on a part of the phone AI never see than some scratches/cracks on parts I always do.
I don't normally use cases as I bought the phone partly because it is slim and slides into the pocket without a lumpy feel. I carry keys a penknife and coins in my pockets as well so I cannot worry about body scratches. My phones are not "pretty" after a year. LOL But this guy is slippery and i have already dropped it a couple times with no ill effect. So I have decided to skin only the battery cover for a better grip.
I do use good screen protectors though (and a small over over the camera lens) to prevent scratches there.

I tried the Invisible Shield and BSE on mine, AT&T's screen protector on my wife's. Comparing both side by side mine had a yellow tint and looked ugly when looking at the same things on both screens. Distored somewhat by the orange peel look. I kept the body skin and put the AT&T screen protector on mine along with the body glove. Body glove fits great. Plus I found my finger sliding easier for swipe with the screen protector and not BSE or IS. Messed me up plenty.
I got one of those cases thats like the material between hard plastic and the soft silicone. I think its called a TPU skin case. Its awesome stuff. Got an all black one off ebay for $7 total and people cant even tell i have a case on the phone.
I know its good for drops too cause my friend dropped his htc incredible onto the ground with one of these cases on, the phone bounced a few times ended up on the screen, basically same thing that happened as OP, and it did NOTHING to the phone. He had a cheap $1 ebay screen protector on too. His phone is perfectly fine not even a scratch.
Highly recommend these cases over hard cases and silicone.
Good thing you have the insurance policy..other wise it would have been a expensive lesson for you. I didn't like any of the cases AT&T had when we got ours..so at my youngest sons urgings we headed over to Best Buy to find him (and us) a case. He had the Seido case for his i-pod and that thing is as rugged as a Timex watch. His Ipod was in good shape..but that case looks like it went through hell and back.He got one for his new 1-4 phone and the wife and myself got the one for the Captivate..I love how it protects but without all the bulk. It's not as well protected as in an Otter Box defender I had on my Hero..but I plan on being much more careful with this phone..
Mac
I had an AWFUL experience just the other day. I was walking to the kitchen with a glass of water and my phone in my hand and somehow I dropped the glass of water. I thought it was my phone so I went to fumble for it, just making a bigger mess and my phone got drenched. Bounced a couple times on the floor landed screen side up. I grabbed it so fast and stuck it in my shirt to dry, ripped the battery door off and dried it as fast as I could to make sure the litmus paper inside and battery didn't get wet. I'm definitely getting a good case now, and maybe I'll just vacuum seal my phone too for extra protection

That's SOOOO funny, because it sounds exactly like something I would do.
I was so used to putting my old phone in my flannel pocket.. with this phone if I do that it'll squirt out faster than a greased pig.
Def need to get a case for this thing.
I got a Zagg screen protector at bestbuy and they put it on using a squeegie. You can barely tell it's there
For a case (at least for the first few months) I got a slide on hard shell. It has a cell phone holster which I got rid of and then it's not that much more bulky. It seems much more sturdy with it. I did the same thing with my iPhone 3g. It didn't add a ton of extra bulk and in the case of my iPhone it made it last until I was ready for my upgrade (to this sweet machine).
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Platinu...121&skuId=1222771&st=captivate case&cp=1&lp=2
I recommend a hard shell
Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not crack resistant, there's big difference you know...

Guess this phone doesn't take asphalt too well after all. In all seriousness though, I dropped mine face down from shoulder height (I'm over 6' ) onto a sidewalk about 2 weeks after I got it (don't drink and text), and with the body glove case and the at&t screen protectors it turned out none the worse for wear (the screen protector was trashed though, grit embedded in it). I haven't noticed any scratching of my phone from the case, either. Highly recommend it.

But I had the same thing happen on my iTouch. Dropped it in the street (with a case!) and the only damage was to the screen protector. Which I promptly took off and replaced when I got home.

Good screen protectors?

Hey, pretty much first topic in here.
I need a good screen protector, since the one that came with the otterbox commuter case I bought is
1 slightly too small
2 when I tried to apply it either the top or bottom wouldn't fit nicely. That is if I applied it aligned to the top of the screen, it wouldn't stick there and vice verse for the bottom.
My criteria basically are (and I know there most likely is no perfect product)
Should fit the entire screen, or at least be "invisible" enough that you don't notice them at first glance.
Somewhat scratch-proof, oleophobic would be a nice cherry on top.
Should feel more or less like the unprotected screen, as in glide easily, no stickiness.
also ofc should work just like the screen, with no input problems or anything.
Anyone know any screenprotectors that fulfill some or all of these criteria? are the cheap ebay ones any good?
I have een an avid brando screen protector fan. They are in China but deliver worldwide.
Try this one:
http://shop.brando.com/bw-ultraclear-pda-s-p-htc-desire-hd-_p04991c1244d039.html
The HTC ones work well for me.
I'm not satisfied with the Zagg Invisible Shield.
Now I bought the Xtreme GUARD screen protector:
h t t p ://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230559214306
The Xtreme GUARD screen protector for Ihone 4 was brilliant.
I use Martin Fields and think it's the best screen protector I've used "so far". My previous screen protectors include ZAGG, some random ebay ones and the ones come with case-mate and otterbox cases.
Installation is super easy (compared to the pain and wait of ZAGG's) as well!
I prefer the original htc screen protectors. Cheap ,good quality.

I like the vikuiti screen protectors, I got a three pack for my HD2 and after I messed up the first with air bubbles the second lasted a whole 10 months and didn't need replacing, the screen still looked liked new. Comparing to the htc it lasted 2 weeks and was full of scratches and finger marks, so Ill be getting the vikuiti for the dhd.

I think your best bet is the HTC's generic protector. It's a perfect cut (mind the gaps between the screen and the plastic "lip"), mine is since early November and it's without scratches. For oleophobic part... some say it gets greasy very easyly, but it's either they have extereamly greasy fingers, or mine are extreamly dry . The protector is made of somewhat hard plastic, so it feels more or less like the unprotected screen. No orange skin effect or the grippy feeling of Invisible Shield. And I didn't notice any reduction or inacuracy in sensitivity of the screen. Maybe slightly less sensitive since before I had mine on, I could "touch" the screen without actually touching it and now it works the way it's supposed to .
Also there is one big advantage of this one - the thickness of the protector is equal to the height of the "lip" around the screen, so with the protector applied you no longer will get your finger "gripped" when you slide them off the screen.
The only downside (IMO) is that HTC made a production design error with the cutting of the protector. There are always two small bubbles in the top left corner where the foil protecting the sticky side is grabbed to be removed prior to the installation.
Yep HTC's original is the best fit
Best for value is to get the HTC Desire HD Screen Protector SP P430 - Twin Pack
I like the EXiM UltraClear. displayschutzfolien.com
I have the HTC original one! great quality, you can't see its there! Be carefull when sticking it one. Ask if you can do it in your uncle's clean room!
Yeah just make sure every microscopic bit of dust is off. I've actually found using a small amount of sunglass lense cleaner on the screen and wiping it off with a microfibre cloth does the trick.

I don't feel it's necessary to pay more than just a few dollars for a good quality screen protector. Over the years I've found the Hh ScreenGuard brand of screen protectors in the yellow packaging on dealextreme.com to be of very good quality. They are thin and flexible which means so long as you put them on with no dust or finger prints they last forever and they stick down with no bubbles and look near invisible. They are usually around 2 bucks. At the present time however dealextreme had no listings for that brand for the Desire HD.
I've had these bad crappy generic ones both from ebay and from dealextreme.com for different phone models (including desire HD). They always come in no packaging/branding and with the same blue on one side red on the other side tabs. They are thicker, less flexible and are next to impossible to get on without bubbling and start to peel off before long. Here's what I'm talking about... The ads often look like this:

Now recently I've found this brand (CALANS) to be of descent quality. In fact since I first put mine upside down first time and then kept washing it and reapllying it with dust underneath it I ended up washing it and re-applying it no less than half a dozen times and when I was finally happy with it there was still no damage or bubbles from this screen protector! Since getting my replacement Desire HD I put on a new one of these protectors and got it first time perfect with no bubbles. The protector came with a case but I asked the ebay seller to sell me more separately so he made a new listing. They are $1 each and free shipping. Here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270694242912. Here's what they actually look like:
Here's some tips I've leant for putting on the screen protectors: First thing is throw away usless cloth that looks like this:
That tiny unhemmed cloth will only fray at the edges and leave lint on your screen as you wipe. You are better off using your cotton t-shirt and breath or a slightly damp soft cotton or microfibre, lint free cloth. Make sure before you remove any of the outside layers you first place the protector over the screen to see how it fits. there are always some gaps and in the case of the Desire HD one way is up, one way is down as there are smaller corners at the top of the screen and bigger ones at the bottom. Place phone on a towl or cloth to keep stable and not damage camera. When you are totally sure you have the screen clean and no dust then peel only a small section of the 1st layer back. Start sticking down protector and pushing out air bubbles as you peel away more of the 1st layer. Once it's all down with no bubbles and the 1st layer is off take of the 2nd layer. If you find there is dust or you messed it up use the corner of a protective layer to carefully wedge under the protector (without damaging the screen protector) and lift up the protector. Remove the protector, clean screen and wash protector with soapy water and rinse. Shake protector. Place protector on screen while still slightly wet pushing out as much air and water as possible. Usually there will be water bubbles under the screen that will gradually dry up over 1.5 to 2 days with this method and in the end leave a flawless finish with no bubbles. I have used my phone during the drying process with no problems.
**Keep in mind phones these days often have a water sensor (a piece of paper that changes colour to moisture). If something goes wrong using the water method and you get the inside of your phone wet this could easily void your warranty**

How to apply a screen protector with no bubbles and cover the whole screen.

First of all I used the official screen protector from HTC and it can be found here ----> Official HTC screen protectors <----
The way I do a screen protector:
I do all my screen protectors in the bathroom (there's less dust in there cause it gets wet from steam in there from showers). Take your sensation and set it on something soft so it doesn't get scratched (don't use toilet paper as it has lots of small particles that come off of it).
Tip: Lay the protector over the screen before you start the process to see if there's overhang. If there's overhang, just even it so it's all the same around the whole screen. This will help you from having to much overhang after (cause you knew beforehand to even it out).
Get a small card (most screen protectors come with them, htc one doesn't). You can even use a mini credit card like the ones from bank of america. Whatever you use, use something with nice rounded edges.
Get a microfiber cloth and get it damp, not soaked, just damp ( I usually wash the cloth with soap and water then wring it out real good).
Now, open you screen protectors so you have one of them out and ready (don't peel it yet, just have it out). Take the microfiber and wipe the screen while it's laying flat, I normally go one way with it (like wipe it down). Keep doing this until there's no dust. Sometimes you can switch sides of the cloth so it's a fresh side. Eventually all the dust will be gone from the screen.
Take your small round card and the microfiber cloth and wrap the card with the cloth so the part that will rub the protector will be soft (it won't scratch it).
Now, take the screen protector and barely peel back the top (whole top, but not the whole protector). Now, position your top along the whole top of the phone and peel it down from underneath while you apply it the rest of the way. I take the card wrapped in microfiber and smooth it downwards while peeling the film with the other hand (tricky to do if you don't understand what I mean). This is the best way to avoid bubbles.
You're gonna have some small bubbles but if you have enough practice and experience (like me), you wont have any except the curved edges.
After the Procter is on,
Slowly squeegee the air bubbles on the flat part of the screen to the nearest edge with the card wrapped in microfiber. They will all come out, it just takes time. After the flat part of the screen has no more bubbles, work on the curved edges. The edges will take time, just do them slowly and kinda wrap the corner as you work out the bubbles. Do one corner at a time. Always push the bubbles out towards the edge, never go back and forth with the card.
After you have wrapped the corners and all the bubbles are out, they won't come back. They should be gone for good if you did it right and yours will look like mine.
Pro tip: If you do get dust, you can take the protector off and wash it very gently with liquid soap and water. Just rinse it off and shake the water off. It's ok to apply the protector a little bit wet (not soaked). The microfiber and card will absorb the little bit of water pushed out at the edges. If there's small residue after, don't worry, it goes away after a few days most of the time.
I hope this helps somebody as it's the best way I've found to do them. I've been doing screen protectors for years and think I have pretty much mastered it. I never get bubbles or dust anymore.
P.S. This process takes about 20 minutes, so don;t try to rush. You'll be happy you took the extra time and did it the right way after you're done using my method.
Good luck guys.
This is how it should look after:

sounds like a nice how-to. Except, I don't see why anyone would put a screen protector on Gorilla Glas

Take your time and use the screen protectors from HTC.
I might try this if my Skinomi screen protector ends up being a waste of life.

Because Gorilla Glass gets F'd up also. My gravel driveway proved this to me on my last Gorilla Glass device.
-Edit-
I also do my screen protectors in the bathroom like the OP. Both for the dust and for availability to water. I've washed them after getting annoying dust particles stuck on previous attempts. Works well.
I have bought the original htc screen protectors and it never sticks at the bevel edges.. I have tried both by heating up with hair dryer and without but it doesnt help
please advise guys... I want to protect it again scratches..

Soak it in hot water for a couple of minutes. It's what I did with the HTC protectors. I use PhantomSkinz now.
I hate cases and really didn't think I needed a screen protector but I was wrong. My screen has several small scratches. First one resulted from me leaving the phone on the bed when I went to sleep, I don't know how, but it got scratched. At first I thought it was a hair stuck behind the sglass, but later I saw that it was a scratch. Scond one resulted in me carrying it in the pocket, my keys scratched it again.
So yeah, u still need screen protector with gorilla glass...
I used water to fit them and they are ok.
You guy do something wrong my desire never have one scratch and the gorilla glas thing here will never have one Protect your phone
I am using an simple bugatti bag for my phone and it never got scratched....
Most scratches come from your pocket while there are other things in it !
i also think that i dont need a screen protector, cause im using a soft bag for it. but nevertheless, i want to buy one, save is save, scratches are a big NOGO
i cant believe that the screen protector on the pictures is an original htc one. How is the feeling with it and how is the display now, how do you see the colours and sharpness?
Amazing.
Show u later mine.

I use the zagg invisible shield, its cut to the perfect size of the entire screen, with cutouts over the sensor and front camera, and it comes with a spray bottle that you use to wet the shield with before applying so you can slide it around to the perfect position, and out has a lifetime warranty. I don't use anything else.

[Q] Xperia Z3 - How tough is the glass

Now, before someone chimes in about the properties of the glass material, and how the strength is dependent on a number of factors (microscopic cracks and pits, inherent strength, type of force, etc).
1. Is the Z3 Gorilla Glass front and back? (or is it using Dragontrail?) or other tempered glass?
2. What about the Camera lens?
3. Are YOU using the phone naked? I am for the time being, but have ordered a tempered glass front protector which comes with a film back
I've got a white one, so I'm not super concerned about fingerprints, but for our black Z3 bretheren, how are you coping with it?
All opinions welcome!
The glass feels different to my S4, I don't think it's the same (which was gorilla glass), this one feels slightly less "glassy". It's not something I noticed at first, but after tapping out an email you start to notice.
I don't use a case yet but will probably get a nice one when more start coming out
And I haven't had any problems with fingerprints, actually I think I might get less on the screen than with my S4.
Z2 owner here, I'm not sure if the glass is the same, but for the record, I am using a case* because I dropped mine very soon after getting it and shattered the screen. It fell out of my pocket from the seat of a (tall) car, which should give you an idea of height. There was a few small pieces of gravel, but I'm not sure if it was the drop or gravel that caused the crack.
Unlike my old HTC One (M7)**, the broken screen rendered the handset useless. My local (Ireland) repair shop wanted around €250 to replace it, but I found a crowd in the UK on eBay that did it for half that price, and they did a bang up job of it too. I actually went back to this phone over the temporary replacement I bought, as the replacement didn't perform as well.
I saw someone say recently that the Z3 has a clear plastic back, but I'm skeptical about that.
* Two actually, the official case for around the house as it's light and would probably protect against most indoor drops, and a cheap-but-sturdy Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit for outside.
** Yes, I broke that too. And the Sensation XE before it. I really should have known better with the Z2, but like many I hate putting cases on lovely phones like these.
I am using a case because i'm fed up of having scratched up phones as I drop them a lot. I have just bought a Nillkin glass protector and use a £2.99 rubberised back case for the back.
The phone is pretty flexible like the other Z's so i'd hazard that it's using something other than gorilla glass.
It's not gorilla glass, it's just your average tempered glass.
Feels very similar to the iPad Air glass, in that it feels more plasticky. It doesn't have that nasty pocket of air between glass and display though like the iPad, so feels less "cheap".
Either way it scratches very easily and loves fingerprints much more than the gorilla glass. All of the generic glass screen protectors on the market have the exact same feel to them as the Z3's front and back panels.
Back of my soon to be replaced Z3 has loads of scratches from simply sitting on a desk. The smallest piece of dust can and will cause many hairline scratches. Any rough surface seems to cause thicker scratches that you can feel under your nail, from the tiniest nudge.
I'm waiting for someone to create a matte plastic protector for the back, or at the very least a tempered glass protector for the back. Matte will make it a lot more grippier though.
For the time being I have a metallic black "skin" which is ready to put on the back of my replacement.
It's dragontrail I think, and it dosent feel "glessy" because there is screen protector on both front and back gless.
My Z1 dropped 4 tines from about 1 and half meters, and there is no single scratch on it.
Trust me, glass on xperia is much more durable then on any other phone.

I can bet there is screen protector, you just don't see them.
Sony puts screen protector almost on every phone since xperia arc.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
I saw the kit for the z3 it includes a matte screen guard.
Sony hasn't used anti shatter film since Z1 fact.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Agreed with the above. Definitely no anti shatter film on this - coming from a previous Z, Z1 and Z2 owner.
I got a Nillkin tempered glass protector this morning, which came with a film back.
Both the front glass and the film back are near perfectly sized - edge to edge. Front works a treat, but I may take the back film off, as the edge to edge fit with the edge of the film means that it feels rigid in my hand (much like a Z2) rather than the soft rounded feeling of the Z3 without the film.
Would the back scratch if im careful with it (keep it away from sand, etc)? thoughts?
Imo the back might pick up a few hairline scratches yeah.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
I've got a black one, so I'd imagine both scratches and prints are more noticeable compared to a white surface. I have not used the phone naked: I left both Sony films on until I got my case and screen protector, which is anti-fingerprint and like the one on my previous phone, seems to work well.

not to be rude, but that is really careless on your part. one thing i've learned through the years of owning phones is never put a phone in you back pocket for this reason. it puts a lot of pressure no matter how big or small you are. another thing i've found out the hard way is never put a phone on your lap while in a car!
This thread convinced me to pick up an Nillikin 9H glass protector for the front while I wait for http://dbrand.glass/ to provide products for the Z3. Carbon Fiber Dbrand skin for the back, tempered glass protector for the front!

Question Pixel 7 Pro with Gorilla glass victus, do you use a screen protector?

So I have been trying a few screen protector on my new Pixel 7Pro and it has been a royal pain. I have tried 2 tpu brands and tons of bubbles. This is with steam and cleaning the screen.
I have a Whitestone dome on order but the last time I tried one several years ago it was a disaster.
Maybe I just suck at applying screen protector?
Anyone rocking their P7P without any protector? How long? How has the screen held up?
I just have a case with no screen protector and have no scratches yet. I keep it in a pocket by itself without any keys or coins.
It will easily be scratch by sand like most glasses. Sand is everywhere.
For wet apply screen protectors like Gorilla IQ Sheild the biggest problem are lint and dust that will cause permanent air bubbles.
Fix: apply in bathroom after running the shower with hot water first for a few minutes, this knocks down the airborne dust and static electricity.
Clean it until it's spotless and dustless before applying.

I tried this 6 times with lots of steam, cleaned the screen and held it upside down and I still got multiple dust particles trapped under the TPU protectors? I don't know what else to do?
I have a Galaxy s22 plus and bought a generic tempered glass screen protector and no problems. It has a flat screen.
Even though the 7 Pro has a very subtle curve it still makes applying a screen protector difficult.
Samsung who makes the 7 Pro screen seems to only make high end large amoled display with curved glass? Why Samsung why?

Zizo Bolt has raised display guards on all 4 sides, antistatic too. Very impact resistant.
Cotton lined pockets shed lint and tend to allow grit the adhere to them. Cotton/polyester blends don't do this. I keep my N10+'s in the thigh cargo pocket of my bdu pants. No lint, easy access, no accidental frame flexing and it stays put.

Was the room humidity near saturation? I get one or two in a dry room usually it seems. Wear non shedding clothing and a head cover if you must. House dust is many times mostly dead skin particles which is constantly shedding.
Wash/rinse hands throughly first but don't dry them before you do it. Your fingers that are touching the inside of the display cover must be wet. Use the microfiber cloth to clean it completely of any dust.
Be careful not the stretch it as this will cause a failure. Wet the display and the fingers you're using to touch it with the included water/soap solution. They aren't expensive so don't sweat it.
A small trapped dust or fiber particle does no harm and can be ignored.
These screen protectors have provided me last line defense in the cases of drops where the display made contact with hard edges, etc. In 3 years of heavy usage there's zero scratches or mars on my N10+ display; it looks like new. The Bolt case and these screen protectors have done an excellent job of protecting my N10+'s in spite of many drops, most onto concrete

I had the galaxy S22 ultra with curved bezels before the P7P. I've installed the Whitestone dome tempered glass screen protector twice without any issues. One thing I do is blow the area I'm working on off with a can of air duster and then let everything settle for a minute. Then I make sure to use the dust and lint free sticker tabs to remove any lint, dust or hair or whatever before applying the tempered glass screen protector. I currently have a Whitestone tempered glass screen protector on my P7P now and I don't have any issues or debris under the glass and it's seated nicely
The last screen protector I used, was on my HTC Tilt. Since the days of smartphones, I've never used one.
But, I don't keep my phone in my pocket or anything. I keep it in a turtleback belt clip case.
I use a film one (as i did on my P6P), never had any bubbles that i couldn't get out during the installation and they feel quite good to be honest, they seem to last about 6 months before a new one is needed.
I put them on in the bathroom after running the shower for 5 minutes to drop any dust.

I am receiving the same today actually. Having never used a screen protector in my life, never had a scratch since the Pixel 2 XL (this is my 5th Pixel). The 7 Pro is the first one that has acquired a tiny scratch, I have no idea how as I treat the phone really carefully. I'm not going to risk getting more. Wish me luck applying the film!

it is really easy, if you can do it in the bathroom after running a shower and then just follow the instructions, it is numbered so it is pretty straight forwards. Lots of people say they have bubbles that vanish after 24 hours but mine have always gone after installing it and then using the provided squeegee to just push them away
I had to use sth, because after 1 week of usage I already have 1 scratch... One time, by accident, I have thrown pixel with iPhone into 1 pocket - and the second little $+&#@& did it.

Done, it was easy, looks perfect. I do have that line across the middle though, but it's hardly visible.
I work in construction, screen protectors are a must for me but after trying to remove a whitestone off a previous phone, never again for me. TPU works ok for my needs as it's really dirt/sand etc I'm combating.
This one has worked well, I did not use the camera cover as some complained about removing it.
I hate curved screens as they are stupid, useless, and worthless for any and all reasons that can possibly be discussed. However, the curve on the 7 Pro is "NOT" as bad as some are. I always used a tempered glass protector on flat screens and I am currently using a Whitestone on the 7 Pro. I realize that Victus glass is fairly resilient but the fact remains that it is glass and a drop on a small stone on the screen is a disaster in waiting. I have experienced in the past that a glass screen protector will take the hit and break before the actual screen. So I do miss the days of $10.00 tempered glass protectors but even the Whitestone is cheaper than a screen repair not counting all the time and trouble to get it repaired. YMMV

That's because Pixel doesn't exploit and use the curve part of the display. Samsung has apps that do, like Edge and especially the 3rd party app One Handed Operation plus (available on Playstore, maybe compatible with Pixels?).
I have 6 zones that can house up to 6 gesture switches each plus the Edge pull out for clip board. They nest in the curve to help prevent false triggering. They can be programmed to use for navigation, to open/close apps and more.
Controls for zone 5 are pictured below.

In the right case the curve display also helps prevent false touches and make the phone easier to handle. Took me a few months to fully adapt to it but now I wuv it...
So I just installed the Whitestone dome on my P7P.
First try I screwed up. Second try is a lot better but not 100% perfect.
I put a case on the phone afterwards and it seems fine but I read afterwards that you aren't supposed to do that for 24 hours? I can smell the adhesive still curing after the UV light.
So any tips and tricks with the dome? Am I going to have a problem since I didn't wait the 24 hours?
So far it seems okay. It works pretty well. Fingerprint scanner works flawless but I did have to re register my prints.
So much better than the TPU protector I tried and failed miserably with.

There are a couple extra steps I do when installing the Whitestone dome TGP.
1. After doing the recommended UV curing time. I will add an extra minute using the UV light to each section of the phone. Top, middle and bottom.
2. Remove the Whitestone jig. Wipe away any excess adhesive and check again for more adhesive. You don't want it in the ear speaker or any of the ports. Then apply the UV light again for another minute in each section of the phone. I may repeat the UV light again if I feel necessary. Just to get a solid cure. At $45 for two screen protectors I want to make sure it's done properly and without flaw's.
After you do it the first time you'll get better at it each time there after.
As far as the case goes. If it's cured properly you shouldn't have any issues installing it right after. Just make sure all excess adhesive is cleaned up.

Before you get started make sure it's the right size glass and jig. Whitestone sent me an open box special with the wrong tempered glass piece. Not so much as a "we're sorry" from these off shore runts. Caused me a lot of inconvenience.
Don't look at short wave UV light sources or it's reflected light... use in a well lighted room.
