US vs EU rom - HTC One S

What is the main difference between a USA Rom vs a European Rom other than language. Im in the US and I have T-Mobile em I loosing out on anything going with a European Rom?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium

there is no difference

Ok thanks

The eu Rom will display "h" at the top vs 4g. Same speed though.

Idk if I'm imagining this...but it seems like the data connection is more stable on T-Mobile Roms.
On EU Roms my data constantly switches between 2G and 3G. While on Tmo Roms it stays constantly on 4G

I've noticed this as well. On the EU ROMs my data was rarely ever connecting. When i flashed a custom T-Mobile ROM, I only get random disconnects every once in a while. Interesting!

Understanding AT&T 4G...

Time to teach an old dog some new tricks. Being an AT&T customer for over 10 years it should come as no surprise that I'm an absolulte stranger to 4G . I have few questions though and hope someone can steer a little 4G knowledge my way.
1) When 4G hits will we need to be on a stock rom and radio?
2) For those of you already in HSPA areas (lucky bastards) what kind of speeds are you experiencing.
Thanks in advance
I think when 4g hits all we will need is a new sim card but I could be wrong
ATT runs hspa+ as "4g", which will go to 21Mbps, then 42Mbps. Then ATT will roll out LTE as real 4g soon too, which will be a whole new network, new frequencies, and need new phone hardware antennas and radio. LTE speeds can go very high, talking about 100Mbps eventually.

I think the sim card stuff is hokey. I'm more worried about custom Roms and radios. Like will we be able to run CM7 when 4G drops.

Yep we will need a lte phone and 4g sim. HSPA + will work fine on different roms. Dallas has it and ive gotten speeds over 6 dl. Stock radio and custom rom.

Well ATT's current hspa will be able to go up to 42Mbps when they turn it on. Look at current t-mobile speeds, its the same technology and they run 21Mbps with users seeing 9Mbps in select areas, and higher. So same applies to ATT.
I am in southern california, supposed "4G" coverage area; only get between
500k to 1.5mb/s. Stock rom and rooted, same result. Att blows.

Did you edit your build.prop to enable higher data speeds?

thats my next step. I am using TPC optimized stock rom, which should have some build prop edit to it already, but will try to tweak it some more and see the reaults. I doubt I will see anything over 3mbs....
What's your build prop settings

Chicago here, I get 6 down and 1.5 up on non-peak data times. I don't think the sim card is a non-issue considering that hspa+ is just an evolved 3g technology. I can't wait for a more consistent speed, even though I use wifi most of the time. I am using cognition hd right now and still getting these speeds.

[Q] [help] Use Inspire 4g in the United Kingdom

Recently i bought the Inspire 4G from USA through Ebay
and found that the only network i can use to be connected to the internet is GPRS
I started wondering if this phone support the UK network (HSPA)
i'm currently using Three (UK)' 3G network, my HTC Legend works fine with HSPA
Does Inspire 4G support HSPA?? or only HSPA+??
You have to play around with the apn there is a whole thread about it

u mean that's the problem with my APN settings?
So how can i find the correct settings then??
The DHD and Inspire 4G are one in the same with a few minor differences. If you've s-off and downgraded, you can directly flash the new stock Desire HD Gingerbread ROM without all the bloatware from here. You will have to root using Gingerbreak, then install the tinny audio fix from here. Works like a champ. Of course, there's all the DHD GB ROM's based on that same kernel which can be flashed using CWM. Lot's of options here...none include the stock AT&T ROM.
so you are saying that the problem can be fixed by flashing a new DHD rom??but not the own problem of inspire 4G?
Yup...give it a whirl. AT&T ROM's are preloaded with their own APN and do not allow you to use the built-in network configuration utility at first boot. Just downgrade and s-off first. It used to be that the original shipping DHD ROM's would cause the I4G to lose audio. Now it's just a bit tinny which some do not like.
i tried this before, it doesn't work, there is still only GPRS network
i even flashed the latest radio just now, but it just doesn't show the "H" icon at the top!!!!
please brothers, i am also facing the same problem in middle east using inspire 4g with vodafone sim card. mine is rooted inspire 4g and i couldn'd get the 3g connection.
Hmmm...unless the radio hardware is different, and I don't think it is, I don't know what the situation is. You flashed the whole ROM right?

This thread has so much wrong info in it.
The Inspire 4G will NEVER work with European UMTS(3G) bands. Only EDGE. The reason is frequency. The USA uses 850/1900 for UMTS. The EU uses 900/2100. There is no way to change this.

No you wont ever get 3g with the inspire in Europe. It only has American 3g bands.
I don't know why this thread got so many replies with nobody saying this, but it lacks the hardware for your country. Sorry.
OK...the European ROM flashes to the Inspire, radio and all, and HSPA works in the US without a hiccup. How does the DHD radio firmware work here if the hardware is different? I'm assuming that the same firmware works on both phones but the hardware to receive the 900/2100 mhz band is missing. Oh well, learn something new every day.
FWIW, you may try changing your band on the phone by using engineering mode *#*#4636#*#* and seeing if you can play around with network preferences. Other than that, I think the guys above must be right.

T-Mobile Data Connection Problems?

I recently upgraded my phone to the new ICS software, I flashed the Virtuous Inquisition 2.1.0 and then 3.0.0 they both worked fantastically but when I turned my phone on after being on standby it would have a data connection but it wouldn't communicate with anything.
So getting fed up with that I flashed the update given by InsertCoin ICS and then flashed the ROM.
It is now doing the same thing again?
It's very finicky as to when it works and when it won't. But when it works it works well?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

same problem, it works, but not well, it used to go from 4g or H to 2g, now it goes to 3g and hangs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same here. Data seems really buggy on all the ics builds I have used for my tmo sensation. Not sure if it is firmware or Rom problems.

+1 I think I've had this problem with every android phone I ever had. I wish there was an option to just leave the data on at all times like home internet. I hate that it has to search for signal and connect every time I click something because it always hangs. Yea 4G is fast but if it has to dial up the internet every time I use it whats the point? The only fix I know for hanging internet is to toggle airplane mode. Which is some BS in IMHO.
Is there a way to disable 3g so it only bounces 4g to 2g?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I flashed the virtuous firmware update and formatted all partitions except for the SD card, and its been working for the last week very consistantly.
To my knowledge there is no way to turn on and off searching for 3g and only switch between 4g and 2g. Because I believe Tmobile's. 4g is just faster 3g? Idk.

LTE not working

My lte is not working. I'm rooted and running cyanogen mod 10. I am in an LTE area. I've tried a number of different roms including sense. I've tried flashing different radios. Nothing seems to be fixing the problem. I got lte a while ago when I was on viper rom and haven't gotten it since. Flashed back to viper and still no lte. What should I try next? Thanks for any help.

Is the following checked on your phone?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
From the CM10 Q&A:
Q: My signal strength says 4G. Why is there no LTE?
A: E=Edge, 3G = UMTS, H = HSPA/HSPA+, 4G = LTE
Go into system tuner or ROM manager and then edit this build.prop:
ro.telephony.default_network
Change the number to 10 or 11 (that's what worked for me)
Save it and reboot.
Let me know if this works. I've brought this up before but I was shot down and told no one has this problem.
