Hello
I am new to the skyrocket and I like it so far ... My only concern is the longevity of the power button coming from a bad experience with a previous Samsung android device Nexus S regarding the power button failure , So :
Completely bone stock Skyrocket on 2.3.6 , unrooted ... I don't use any PIN or style to unlock , my unlock pattern is NONE or immediate setting...I don't care about locking the screen as I use this which is absolutely perfect :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5kcm9pZG1hbmlhLmxvY2tzY3JlZW53aWRnZXQiXQ..
What is the best tool/widget/app (in term of function,no ad,consistency, and not eating my battery) that can UNLOCK the screen without touching the power button ? it's fine for me to just bring the screen on by vol rocker maybe or the proximity sensor...
Thanks

Hey guys,
Stock ROMs are my favorites; they bring stable experience for daily basis except for the ultra speed. (but stable means the most for me sometimes)
I used to root my previous phone only for some simple purpose, screenshots for example; then a few days ago I found a trick (from a forum written in Chinese, http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3345443-1-1.html) to do this without root permission.
Just press Power/Lock + Menu key (at the bottom left), the sticky note app will show up with an instant screenshot. Save it and you will get the screenshot in your /sdcard/quicknote/snapshot/ directory.
Hopefully this trick could help you out.
Note:
I've tested this on ME865, the Atrix 2, Asian Pacific version.
Other versions and models may not applied for this shortcut... sorry that I didn't noticed this before
Great! Thank you!
U sure this works on the a2?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
I tried this several different ways and I was unable to duplicate this on the MB865, I am guessing this only works on the ME865.
Thanks anyhow though.

Same here...
However if you do want a good free no-root-necessary (on the A2 at least) then get Screen Grabber... by default it is set to use root but it works when you uncheck the "use root" option.

Did not work for me either, however as stated above, ScreenGrabber works great.

Sorry for my mistake, I confirm this shortcut works on ME, but not tested on MB.
I'm using an Asian Pacific ME865 device sales at Hong Kong.
Thats it. To capture screenshot, you need to do three combination keys.
Press "power on/lock + vol down + camera button". Hold three keys for 3 sec.
Tested on atrix 2 ics.
Y is this necessary.? We have stock screenshot capability right! Just hold power and volume down key together for 3-4 sec.!

Did either of you look at the dates of the original posts... almost a year ago now. Did you not think that things were different on 2.3.6 than they are in ICS now?
Please think and read thoroughly before posting or replying, including when and why someone might have posted something. I understand both of you are noobs, so consider this your first little slap on the wrist.
Be glad it was I that did this, as others may not be so nice in the future. We are a good group here, but not reading and making posts that are not well thought out or just plain not researching will get you things you do not want in here.
--EDIT--
Oh and by the way, Welcome to our little slice of XDA!!!
I am one of your devs in here, and I am sure you will see a lot of me.

welcome to the A2 community !
Yup in ICS we use just the power key + volume down key combination to take a screenshot
BTW do read the links posted by jim above.. theyre quite helpful, and just to let you know, some of old posts are related to GB, so do watch out for that post date before you reply to anything, can get very confusing otherwise.
Anyways, good to see a walking dead fan here :good:

hey all!
Well after a long while searching for any screen capture app that works without rooting the phone.
I finally found something & just wanted to share the experience:
It's called "Screen Capture Shortcut Free" (there's also a paid versions with couple of extra features, but I ONLY tried the free version so far)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.tomorrowkey.android.screencaptureshortcutfree
NOTE that the developer says it's tested on "Galaxy S" "Galaxy Tab" & "Galaxy S II" -- so it might NOT be compatible with all phones or Android versions. But you won't lose anything to give it a try if you need a screen capture app and you don't want to root the phone like me!!
Fortunately it working perfectly on my Ace Plus with the default Android 2.3.6!!
Hope that helps
You don't need any app for that! Just press home + power and you're done.

Nice one, I like it
Last night I noticed my power button sometimes would not lock my screen on my phone. Even when it would, it would lock and quickly bring the screen back on. Even sometimes occasionally I would press the button once quickly and the power off/reboot menu would appear. This morning I found a tab for my quick settings panel that puts the phone into sleep and have been using it all day. This has been a real pita. Now my phone as I am using it randomly sleeps and then brings up the power menu. Is there any way to replace the power button? I found barely anything on YouTube on this and and not sure if it is an easy or hard fix. For now, is there an app that I can disable my power button so my phone does not make me rage?
-Thanks

You can buy a power button, but replacing it ...you need skill and tool (not recommend for an average user). Try to bang the button on a hard plastic surface like washer/dryer surface. A number of people reported success with this method.(this is real, not a joke),

Hmm.. I tried your method to fix it and it seems to have done nothing :/ thanks for the idea though. Also, do you know if any cellular companies would fix this part? I am rooted running the latest CM 11 nightlie and would like to not have to factory restore.

On the website you linked the repair cost is $150. I am not looking to spend near that. And the closest repair store near me is a little under an hour and a half away :/ Also, do you know of any apps to disable my power button?

Not in English but you just need to see the video:

If you know how to solder you can do it.

I have to test it out first, but I think I can disable the power button, however, it's only a work around, you need to replace the button for a permanent solution. If under warranty, it's the best way to go.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/solved-how-to-disable-nexus-4-proximity-t2558878
See if any of the suggestions here work for you.
Also try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
All of these things were found by searching Google for 2 minutes. Sometimes it can be a better option than here for unique things.
