Has anyone here used any of these multi usb sd card connectors on ebay and amazon?
http://www.amazon.com/OEM-Connectio...KK/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1337138991&sr=8-19
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...X2/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1337138991&sr=8-28
They look like they are Shanzhai (Chinese knockoffs) rather than Samsung made, but if they worked as they advertise, it'd be good price. I just don't want to spend 30-40 dollars on the official connection kit.
Amazon reviews are mixed, so I was hoping somepne on XDA had tried them. All feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
The one like that I got from IDS does not work.
This one does: http://www.amazon.com/New-Samsung-Reader-Galaxy-EPL-1PREBEGXAR/dp/B007PTWPDY

I have one and it works, However they have a switch to change between SD and USB so you cant use both at the same time
Do they work with custom roms as well?
I have this one www_dot_dealextreme_dot_com/p/multifunctional-card-reader-usb-hub-for-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-black-max-16gb-109775?item=48
(replace "_dot_" by the "." Engine of the forum do not allow to me post the normal links). Works very well! If you connect it to the AC adapter (it has short cable for the USB AC adapter) you can use SD CARD and USB Bar/keyboard/mouse at the same time! If you do not connect it to AC you can use any one port because of the device power limitation.
DX accesoires sometimes tight fit

I have ordered an extra USB cable and a cable to USB port (for gamepad connection), the extra cable was a very tight fit. Had to force it to much in my opinion. How's that with this accessorie?
I have an official samsung one that has never been opened that I probably will never use that I'm looking to get rid of for $10 shipped. I exclusively use my tablet in the car so its docked 100% of the time and therefore can't really use an accessory that relies on the docking port

Hi,
Did you buy this kind of converter?
If yes, where did you buy it?
I found this one:
http://www.fommy.co.uk/view-full-page.asp?skuno=83010
But I am not sure if this can be used to sync data or disk drive mode.
I also found this one:
http://www.pdaplus.nl/catalog/adapter-mini-usb-micro-usb-p-4165.html
Please share your info
Thanks.
The first one looks similar to the one that I got from eBay. It charges fine with my HP data messenger (or whatever it's called) but doesn't charge with the Desire unless I "wiggle" it about.
I bought mine here http://cgi.ebay.nl/MINI-USB-TO-MICRO-USB-ADAPTER-FOR-HTC-DESIRE-HD-MINI_W0QQitemZ110509230074QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneChargers?hash=item19badd07fa
But it seems that I can only charge my Desire with my USB cable + converters. It doesn't sync, I tried several of my USB cables.
Yeah I bought the ecell adapters and have the same problem, they only charge. Sent them back for a refund.
I did also get a usb cable from them usb to micro and that works ok, albeit a bit slow. Takes about 15secs to recognise its a drive. Seems to copy files across at a decent speed though.
Anyone had success with mini - micro usb adapters
I am going to buy this:
http://shop.brando.com/mini-usb-to-micro-usb-adapter-w-on-off-switch_p04160c0006d001.html
From the specification, you can charge AND sync !
And it is only $6 + $3 delivery cost (worldwide).
im new to usb phone, all previous have had proprietary connection
will any mini(or is it micro) usb cable work?
in other words can i get it from a pc shop and save $20 over vzw prices?
Micro usb cable, and yes

I would recommend monoprice.com or amazon. You can get a stack of micro-usb cables for <$10 normally.

Generic charger will work fine as long as the plug is Micro USB. Never buy cables in stores unless you're cool with 1000% markup

no markup if you know the right people in a local shop
not so fast
So you SHOULD be able to use any old usb cable, but its not always the case. I tried to use my Kindle USB cable on my fascinate and it DID charge it, but would NOT allow me to mount the SD card on the host computer. On closer inspection it LOOKS like the cable wouldn't go in all the way. Tried a differant cable and it worked fine.
The odds are that any cable WILL work, just sayin that sometimes...
I got a couple micros today from
monoprice and they don't sit all the way in but are enough to transfer if you don't bump the phone. My plan is to file or dremel the plastic head a little this weekend.
The receptacle is recessed just far enough to keep the plug from fully engaging.

My kindle cable works.. It's the latest Kindle, not sure if yours is older or not. It doesn't sit flush, but as long as you're not playing catch with the thing while it's plugged it's fine. I do all my adb work over that cable.

same issue here. I get all my cables from monoprice. Too bad the micro head is too fat, but filing it down is a good idea. I need to try that.
This one (OEM Samsung, but from another model) is cheap and works fine.
I picked up a SanDisk Dual USB drive, and although it works well, I was disappointed to see it's a bit too big to work with the bumper case I use. I briefly considered modifying the case, but think my best option is getting a short USB extension cable... Though I thought that would be a simple and cheap solution. After a little looking around though, I'm not sure I know what micro usb extension I need - MHL, OTG, Power? As best as I can tell, I need what they're marketing as a micro to micro OTG extension - but if someone can confirm, I'd appreciate it. My concern comes from comments on some saying they don't work for charging or syncing (search for "YCS Basics 6 inch USB Micro male to female OTG extension cable" on amazon), but it sounds like the mhl cable is just for HDMI.
Help?
Just get a small USB OTG cable. I use one sometimes with my Corsair OTG drive and it works great. Not all of my cases will let me lug the micro USB in easily hence why I have a small OTG cable. I can post pictures if you would like.

Can you return it for the new USB 3.0 model? Supposedly they made the uUSB connector longer to work with more cases.

Really? That would have been great... but no. Or maybe... but probably not worth it to me at this point. I got a standard OTA cable and have just been living with it that way. And I haven't looked, but I'd have to think they're charging a premium for the 3.0 enhancement. I bought mine during one of those Christmas sales, so I got it real cheap at the time. Thanks though.
Hi guys
What are you using to power your Tab S and have a hard drive etc connected
at the same time?
Looking for the smallest possible option to limit bulkiness
Thanks!!
what about this cable.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EJP5X...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0RE8386SWCWM00V7XPZJ
John.
Yeah looks good....what cables are you guys using for charging and host at the same time?
I heard its not recommended to use an external hard drive without supplying power to the Tab S
Yeah, your right about using an external power supply when using an portable hdd with your tablet as it uses too much power by the hdd, the cable i linked above has an microusb socket for you to plug your tablet usb power adaptor into.
John.
The Y-OTG cables supply power to the OTG device (e.g. SD card USB reader) but not concurrently to the Tab S. Basically all they do is reduce power drain on the TabS. The previous comment to try to use a powered USB hub or a self powered USB device is good advise.

I have to resist the urge to go cheap on power adapters, after i had an car and an mains adapter start smoking in a week and nearly blew-up my HTC M7, I have been looking at the Belkin USB Adapter 2.4amp it comes with an 25.000 damage warranty, they cost between 15-20£ in the UK.

Have you tried the ones on aliexpress.com??
They say its otg and charges at the same time
Samsung tablets no longer supports this function that I know of. They used to have a dock mode that would do usb host charge and hdmi out ending with note 8. I tried all types of resistors and cables so far the lava adapter is the only one that worked. It's a solid 1amp charge with usb function. I wasted more money making and buying cables that said worked but never did. If u want ou cheap buy a usb host cable put a 1ohm to 10k potentiometer in between ground and Id pin turn it slow til u see usb host triggered on the tablet but again it could be a waste of money and not work. I had a tab pro trigger usb host and charge that way but was very unstable current. Any questions let me know.
Hi.
In the user manual it says that the touchscreen my act-up while it is used while the tablet is charging if the power supply is unstable.
A quick Google show this is an common issue for a lot of brands of tablet/phones

It was made for kiosks to always be plugged in and charging according to the guy at lava I talked to. You have to have a dba to get it direct and the shipping is alot from Canada to us so buy from amazon.
Anyone know of any good adaptors similar to the OTG which would allow to connect USB memory sticks via the USB-C port.

Huh?G I'm using the Note 7 adapter. According to another site some OTG cables don't work with the Z so beware.
Found this on Google store. May go for it unless anyone's already tried with no luck. https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_usb_standard_a_adapter

Not sure if the actual term for it is OTG as that's what the adaptor was called for Microusb to USB A connection.

Thanks but that's from the U.S. I'm in the uk
I havent used them but some companies are making flash drive with usb c and usb a if all you want it for is a flash drive you can get a flash drive that works without an adapter
Be careful of hard adapters, they (Ha Ha, YOU) will break themselves or your port
Edit, these may not be OTG also. Yet similar OTG 90* adapters have similar drawbacks/ benefits.
There are 2 like this on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3SINB9/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A33YL1HODFD2CL
I am going to get this soon.
This right angle horizontal, is not yet reviewed, but a sister item with right angle (up) is.
Frys usually stocks this style in micro, maybe a C version is there?
I have used one! The one I use works only with USB flash drives that are fat32 format! The brand of mine is belkin and I bought it from best buy!
Very nice to use this for watching movies and not having to use up storage on the device.
Only drawback is that the usb-c port does not allow you to use wired headphones at the same time! So, I had to go wireless Bluetooth headset!

Curious question. Since this is one of the first phones where the add-on option comes into play (mods), couldnt one devise an external ssd drive moto mod? Either that or one of those all-in-one adapter mods where i can plug in older tech? Im always skeptical about destroying the one & only port on the phone anyway.
In case anyone only wants flash storage I purchased the Sandisk Dual ultra and it works great, usb c and a usb a connector.
Also only have to carry one thing as opposed to two. I bought mine with 128gb storage, preformatted to fat32, was simply plug and play.
