[HowTo] How to update the System Software on rooted OTA phone with custom recovery - Android General

The OTA Update:
Your phone will download the OTA update as a zip file in the Download folder.
------------------------------------
The Problem:
------- quote by jackdowsan -------
I downloaded the file, placed it in my zip, went to cwm recovery and tried intall zip from sd card, it failed saying something about signature verification....
What are my options? I am on stock with root and custom recovery..
------------------------------------
The Solution:
I was in the same situation and I've resolved it by extracting the original OTA recovery.img from the OTA Update zip and flashed it through fastboot. Then I've updated the system software successfully and flashed back the ClockworkMod recovery.
If somebody needs a step by step guide, please see below:
WARNING! You may loose your root access after this procedure. Do not worry. You can root it again the same way you did before, or much easily by using the application Voodoo OTA RootKeeper (free, no ads, on the market). Just install it before you start and then again after the process to restore your root access.
1. Send the system software update archive located in your phone's download folder to your PC. Open it and inside you'll find another archive - firmware.zip. Open it and extract the original OTA recovery.img. Put it in the same folder with the fastboot.exe file.
2. On your HTC One X, enable USB debugging by going to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging and check-mark the box.
3. Turn OFF your smartphone using the Power button.
4. Press and hold Volume DOWN button and then immediately press Power button. Select Fastboot mode from the menu that appears on the screen.
5. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with it.
6. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop, go to the folder with your fastboot.exe and then type in the following commands. It will flash recovery on your phone.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
7. When the flashing is done, simply enter the following command into Command Prompt Window to reboot your phone.
fastboot reboot
8. You have successfully installed the original OTA Recovery on your HTC One X. Start the phone update again and it'll successfully update to 1.29.401.11. Your job is done!
9. Once everything is completed you can put ClockworkMod Recovery again by following the steps above but instead of using the OTA recovery.img file use the ClockworkMod recovery.img.
Cheers,
P.S. Sorry if this thread is not in the right place. Please move it if it's necessary. I'm still new here

Thanks a ton, would try this today

Just tried it, something did not go right, firtly, I had a little different update file then yours, I had
OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.7-1.28.401.9_release_259295wbmgoi0p47wgsfl6
which is like 34.5mb or something....
I extracted it and got recovery.img from firmware.zip and followed your guide, but after fastboot reboot, when I entered my phone, I still see it on 1.28.401.9
what could be wrong? I saw the fastboot recovery command executed just fine...what else can it be?
Thanks!

This solution should work on any OTA phone with custom recovery and root access.
So you flashed the OTA recovery.img, restarted the phone and in the normal mode you started the System Software update, right? My phone installed the update with no problems and it was showing the new version. The thing I lost was the root access but I explained how to gain it back.
If an experienced developer is reading this thread they may be able to advise us why the solution did not work with your phone.

[Q] My phone bricked. Need help please..

My phone is unlocked and rooted. My problem is that when I go to FASTBOOT MODE, then go into RECOVERY, then when I press 'apply update from /sdcard' it shows nothing in there. So, I just stuck and unable to flash any rom at all. I tried to go into the SD card through my computer to install a ROM so that I have something to flash, but nexus s has only internal storage. Please help?
Hi
Hi, I bought my nexus s, immediately after I tried to root, and failed, this left me in the same situation as you.
You NEED to install the adb drivers, and boot using odin files. It was pretty tricky but i got there in the end, i was bricking it too , but dont worry, there's a 98% chance its not bricked, ill find the files for you now...
Go to mount drives and mount your storage from there. That's what I did.
Right, first of all, boot into the bootloader on your Nexus S, and i'm assuming that all your drivers are working fine because you have already unlocked your bootloader.
Place the files in the zip download inthe following places
WIN32bitOS: Program files/Android/Android-sdk/tools
WIN64bitOS: Program files (x86)/Android/Android-sdk/tools
Next, open a command prompt, and type in the following commands, (C: is your windows installation hard drive letter, leave as default if you dont know what this means)
if your 32bit type this w/o quotes "cd C:/Program files/Android/Android-sdk/tools
64bit "cd C:/Program files (x86)/Android/Android-sdk/tools
and click enter.
Next you want to make sure that your Nexus S is in bootloader mode, connected to your pc.
Type the following.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
[click enter & wait until it says successful]
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
[click enter & wait until it says successful]
fastboot flash system system.img
[click enter & wait until it says successful]
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
[click enter & wait until it says successful]
Reboot and you should go into android 2.3
Next time make a nandroid backup in clockwork mod!

hi cdaly, can you point me to some information on how to install nandriod backup and making/restore a backup right after installing CWM (right after "unlocked" but didnt install Super user yet)?
Yeah
Yeah sure,
Root your phone, go to market place, download rom manager. Open the app and click the button that says, Fash Clockwork Recovery.
Shut down your phone when the operation has completed. Go inot bootloader mode, click recovery. Navigate to backup and restore. Go into backup and restore, click backup. Voila.
If you ever need to restore do the same but click restore. Pretty simple when you know what to do
If this has left you confused, look around on XDA/google, there are a ton of guides
Link added!
Thanks, appreciate it.
Thanks for that. I am using mac computer. Would it be the same typing command for mac as you had mentioned?

Thanks very much cdaly.. I am just a bit confused regarding phone is rooted or not.
I got to the point flash recovery was sucessfuly in command prompt, but when i try to install "su-2.3.6.1-cd-signed.zip" from SD card, it wasn't successful, as in there is no "superuser" icon after reboot and i have tried wifi tether and it says my phone is not root.
Now i havent tried "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" because i accidently bricked my phone for some stupid things i did. but my phone is NOT root as long as I don't see the superuser program right?
I thought nandroid is an actual program but it just means backing up through bootloader?
Thanks for all your help!!!

I dont know if NANDROID is a program or not, it just use it via clockwork mod recovery menu and it works so I'm not complaining aha
If you want to root your nexus s, download this zip file and extract, make sure that your nexus s is in bootloader mode and double click "install-superboot-windows" Bingo, you have root.

It wouldn't hurt to try but I dont think so. If you can go into boot-camp or use a friends PC. Or you can try this.
Change your folder to the plaform-tools folder. I dont know how to do this, just referencing off of http://rootzwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Samsung_Nexus_S
Next type
"./fastboot flash boot boot.img"
"./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
"./fastboot flash system system.img"
"./fastboot flash userdata userdata.img"
Hi cdaly985
I'd tried it and it works 100%. And, just to share for mac to add on the command "./fastboot-mac ....". I am really impressed with your help. Thanks very very very much.
Hi cdaly985
Now everything is ok with the phone except that it won't be able to go into recovery mode. I had tried by using Rom manager v.4.. and also by pressing vol + power, all failed.
Please help me on this problem. Thanks.

This is my method how to root Lenovo A706 using Fastboot without flashing your recovery.
WARNING: It may void your phone's warranty. DO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
>>Step 1: Download CWM and flashable root zip file in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2391801
>>Step 2: * Unzip the CWM and copy recovery.img in "platform-tools" folder in Android SDK if you have it.
* Copy the Flashable root zip file into your root of External SD Card
>>Step 3: In your phone, Enable USB Debugging. (Settings > Developer option > Switch on the the slider button of Developer option then check the USB debugging and Allow mock locations) then connect your phone in to your PC.
>>Step 4: SHIFT + Right click on "platform-tools" folder and then select "Open command window here".
>>Step 5: In command window, type adb reboot bootloader then your phone will reboot into fastboot mode.
>>Step 6: type fastboot devices. You can see your device in cmd "MSMXXXXXX fastboot mode" or whatever.
>>Step 7: type fastboot boot recovery.img. You can see that your phone is rebooted into CWM Chinese recovery.
>>Step 8: In the menu, choose the 2nd option. i cannot remember but if you see the option which have a word "SDCARD" or "SD", then that is what im talking about. hehehe
>>Step 9: Select the flashable root zip file then BOOM. Your phone is rooted. In CMD type adb reboot to reboot your phone then you will see the Superuser has already installed.
**************SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH.. Base on my experience, i cannot reflash the CWM after updating my ROM. so i used this method and my phone now is already rooted.
can someone help me to find A706ROW_1_S_2_001_0021_130923 ?

[HOW-TO] Unlock and Root Moto G via Recovery/SuperSU

Unlocking the Bootloader is Required! This will erase all data and void your warranty!
Since all data will be wiped it's best to do this immediately after getting the phone. At least unlocking the bootloader.
I won't add a disclaimer, because if you trust some guide from some guy on the internet you should know what that means without being told explicitly.
For me the bootimage method posted on Modaco does not work and apparently others seem to have trouble as well (see the poll at Modaco). And since I couldn't find any guide here on XDA I thought I'd write one. XDA helped me a lot when I got my DHD, so maybe now I can help back.
This is based on soyd's guide at swedroid.se which I used to finally get my phone rooted after some unsuccessful attempts.
The guide is for Windows, but could probably be easily adapted to Linux/Mac by using the appropriate drivers/tools. I followed these steps to successfully root my Moto G (16 GB, german retail, Android 4.4.2, OTA 176.44.1).
Here're the neccessary steps:
Install Motorola and ADB Drivers
Unlock Bootloader
Flash Recovery
Flash SuperSU
Enjoy
Install Motorola and ADB Drivers
Do not connect your phone to your PC just yet.
If you already have ADB drivers and Motorola drivers installed, just skip this step.
Download these files:
Motorola Drivers
ADB Tools (thx to androidpit.info)
mfastboot.exe (only download that file from the G-Drive folder - thx to whoever uploaded it)
Run the MotorolaDeviceManager_2.4.5.exe you just downloaded and install it
Extract the two folders from adb-tools_treiber.zip
Open ADB-Treiber folder and run UniversalAdbDriverSetup.msi
Copy mfastboot.exe to ADB-Tools folder
Now this next part might be optional, but some things might not work without it and there's no real harm so:
Enable USB-Debugging
On your phone, open Preferences
Scroll all the way down to About this phone
Scroll all the way down to Build-Number
Tap 7 times on that entry
You'll get a message "You're a developer now"
Go back and open the new item Developer options
Check USB-Debugging
Connect your phone to the PC
Drivers will be installed and the phone will ask you to confirm USB debugging from that computer
Unlock Bootloader
There are probably lots of guides around, but to have it all in one place, here's yet another one:
!YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR WARRANTY AND ALL DATA BY UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER!
Switch off your phone
Hold Volume-Down and press and release Power to boot into Fastboot
A text screen should appear
Connect the phone via USB to the PC
Open a command prompt and browse to the ADB-tools folder you just created
Type:
Code:
fastboot oem get_unlock_data
You'll get five lines of characters, all beginning with (bootloader):
Code:
(bootloader) 0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230
(bootloader) 30373731363031303332323239#BD00
(bootloader) 8A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F95
(bootloader) 1A3E5#1F53280002000000000000000
(bootloader) 0000000
Copy all lines into one long string without the (bootloader) part!
You want something like 0A40040192024205#4C4D355631323030373731363031303332323239#BD00 and so on.
Open Motorola Unlocker Site (you need to sign-in)
Copy the string in the box at 6. and press Can my device be unlocked?
A Request my Unlock Key button should appear. Check I Agree to the legal stuff and press that button
Check your mail for the unlock key
In the ADB-tools folder type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock [I]paste_your_key_here[/I]
The phone should reboot and greet you with a nice warning about you having lost your warranty.
Flash Recovery
Now that the booloader is unlocked you have to flash a custom recovery to be able to flash SuperSU.
Download the CWM image from this post. The file should be named something like recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.7-falcon.img. Copy the file to the ADB-Tools folder you created earlier and rename it to CWM.img
Your phone should still be connected to your PC and have finished rebooting and be in stock ROM.
In the ADB-Tools folder type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
The phone should reboot and the bootloader will come up again
To make sure all's working as expected type:
Code:
fastboot devices
You should get a response similar to:
Code:
List of devices attached
TA93005M6V device
To flash the custom recovery, type:
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery CWM.img
On the phone you might get a message about size mismatch, just ignore it. Now you have to enter the newly flashed CWM recovery. Take your phone and:
Press Volume-Down to scroll to the Recovery menu item
Press Volume-Up to select that item (yes, Vol-Up selects)
The phone will boot into recovery
Now is a good time to backup your system.
Press Volume-Down to scroll to Backup and Restore
Press Power to select that item
Press Volume-Down to scroll to Backup to /sdcard
Press Power to select that item
Backup will commence, once it's finished go back to the main menu and select Reboot, then confirm with YES
You phone will reboot into the stock ROM.
Flash SuperSU
Now you can finally flash SuperSU and be done with the whole business.
Download the newest SuperSU and save the file to your phone's SD-Card's root directory. The phone should show up as an MTP device in Windows file explorer.
In ADB-Tools folder type:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
The phone will reboot and once CWM Recovery has come up, use the Vol-Up/Down keys to scroll and Power to select
Select Install zip
Select zip from /sdcard
Select /0
You should find a file like UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip there.
Select that file, confirm YES and wait for the flashing to finish
Go back to the Main menu and select Reboot, confirm YES
The phone should once again reboot into normal stock ROM operation. To check if all went well, open the app drawer, tap on SuperSU and if no error message comes up... You're done!
I hope there are no mistakes anywhere in this guide and also that it might be helpful to some people...

I had the same problem at first. When you copy and paste the code on the website it put spaces between the code. There cant be any spaces then it will work. Hoped this helps XD
Thanks
Great guide, I used it to root my Moto G I got today but I had problems with flashing the Clockworld recovery. It simply would not work, said error. But I tried TWRP and it worked. But I also named it recovery.img and used your command but replaced CVM.img with recovery.img. Got rid of ALL of the bloatware. I was stuck at first because I didn't start the command promt inside of the adb tools folder.
Recovery issue
Guys I had a similar issue while flashing the cwm.
When I flash it in the first boot it works, I can enter in the interface and can create a backup or flash one, but after a reboot it do not enter again. I tried entering via fastboot -> Recovery and received the dead android icon with the "No command" message.
Tried installing via PlayStore and had the same result, even with the TWRP.
Any ideas ?

Rotted, Team win, er how to update to 5.1?

pretty much says it all, its been a long long time since ive flashed anything ( and the last time i did something it didnt exactly go to plan )
Ive got a Nexus 5 (32GB) its rooted with team win recovery and i would like to update it to the latest version, preferably without losing any data
ive tried searching but there doesn't appear to be a simple guide on how to do this
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
There's a whole thread on ota's in the general forum. Start there. You have a number of different options. It would also help to know what android version you're on now.

Your Nexus 5 is rotted?
Its not rotted yet, however my typing skills probably have.
Android version 5.0.1
just tried downloading the OTTA update and renaming it as update.zip
then adb sideload with adb sideload update.zip
then error : closed
and thats that.
the guides says this:
Scenario #2
You are stock, with root. Custom Recovery without any modifications or deletions.

Section B: Flashing in a Custom Recovery (TWRP- CWM)
(For Flashing 4.4.4 OTAs and Below ONLY!)
1) Download the OTA.zip and copy to your phone.
2) Boot into recovery.
3) Flash the OTA just like you would a ROM.
4) Reboot.

Im on 5.0.1 so thats that out of the window
Download the latest Factory image.
Download the Android SDK.
Boot into bootloader (Vol- & Power). Connect the phone to your Computer. Check for exclamation marks in device manager.
If there are some install the drivers. If there are none extract the contents of the SDK. Copy the contents of the extracted factory image into the same folder (into platform-tools).
Open up the command prompt, by typing "cmd" into the search in the start menu. Once you are in cmd you can change the current folder with "cd" (cd .. gets you out of the current folder and into the above one, path wise / cd foldername enters a folder). "dir" lists the contents of the current folder.
Navigate to your SDK, into the platform tools folder.
Open the flash_all.bat (DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK, do a right click select edit). Type these commands one after the other (just the stuff starting with fastboot). So you flash the new bootloader, reboot, flash radio etc.
The latest fastboot has a "-w" in it. Leave that "-w" out, otherwise you will wipe your device.
Congrats, you flashed a factory image.
If you only want to flash parts of the "image-hammerhead.zip", extract it. It will have several .img files. You can flash these with "fastboot flash "image Type (system/recovery/data)" "filename.img" (without "" of course).

LG Urbane 2nd Edition Verizon W200V , Android Wear 2.0 Side load OTA Guide

Hey All,
This is my first ever post on XDA ,So forgive me if I have not done a good job. I will try my best to provide sufficient details on how to upgrade LG urbane 2nd Edition Verizon model watch to Android wear 2.0 from Android wear 1.5
Known Issues : **********Android Pay is not working as reported by few users ***********
YOU FLASH THESE FILES AT THE RISK OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE. I AM SIMPLY PROVIDING THEM AND BEAR NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE FROM FLASHING THESE FILES. ALL DATA ON THE PHONE WILL BE ERASED.
Prerequisites:
[*]LG Urbane 2nd Edition Verizon Model (W200V) for all other model you should have received a OTA by now , Please check OTA software updates on you watch.
[*]ADB tools ( Minimal is also sufficient) google for files and install in your computer , in my case I did it in "C:\adb".
[*]twrp-3.1.1.0 (twrp-3.1.1.0.img) recovery Image Copy of the file :- https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bzk4DPXefDhrRzl3ckh6Uzhad1k
[*]Android Wear 2.0 OTA udpate Copy of the file :- [*]Modified file link http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/699795/lg2.zip or original file https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../af88cfbc96ad65e7b728e27c2decbdc6fb0e08e8.zip
[*]notepad++ (to edit updater-script), You can use Notepad as well.
1)perform factory reset on your watch just to be on safer side.
**update** Few users have reported that they have faced error while flashing due to buggy USB cable and they could successfully overcome the error by holding the cable to the watch and making sure the cable is fully in contact with the watch while flashing .**Update**
2)now we need to modify the OTA update file to work with Verizon model W200V ( skip this step if you have downloaded modified zip file and jump to 3rd step)
unzip the 'af88cfbc96ad65e7b728e27c2decbdc6fb0e08e8.zip" downloaded earlier and Browse the folder Edit file (updater-script) the file can be fount in the below path in my case."C:\ADB\af88cfbc96ad65e7b728e27c2decbdc6fb0e08e8\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script". Use Notepad ++ and open the file and Remove 2 first rows,The file should start from "ui_print...", I used Note++ to edit the file and saved, as mentioned earlier you can use notepad as well.
Now Zip All files And name LG2.zip(Note : don't put all the files into a single folder and then zip, The zip should contain "META-INF" and other files) and place it in "C:\ADB\LG2.zip" for easier navigation in Cmd. (this file can be downloaded using above link Modified file")
3)next Connect your LG Urbane 2nd Edition watch to Computer and Enable ADB Debugging On watch (Settings-About-Tap about 8 times on "Build Number" and now go back to Setting and scroll down you should see new options "Developer Options" , Tap on "Developer Options" - and "ADB Debugging" select "Enable always from this computer" or something like that !!)
4)Now Check if your device has a connection to your computer using ADB tools
now on your computer under "Run" , type Cmd, this will bring windows command prompt.
Open Cmd in Windows and browse to ADB tools folder in my case I have placed ADB tools and all required files under "C:\abd"
Type "adb devices"
your device should show up under "List of devices attached"
Once device is found by computer we have to push the TWRP recover image to phone , To make life easy , I have downloaded all the above mentioned files to "C:\adb" folder
"adb push twrp-3.1.1.0 /sdcard/"
later boot into bootloader
"adb reboot bootloader"
Unlock bootloader
"fastboot oem unlock"
5)Now flash TWRP recovery (because we will be changing/modifying the original the OTA update file, stock recovery will fail to verify signature)
"fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1.0.img"
boot to recovery to perform OTA side load
"fastboot reboot recovery"
Now you should see TWRP recovery welcome page,Allow read and write partition permission in TWRP.
6)now on your phone you should be in TWRP Main screen , press Install and you will find option to adb Sideload select that option and you will be presented with a option to wipe Dalvik and Wipe Cache , Select that and now go back to your cmd and type below code.
"adb sideload lg2.zip"
Now sit back and relax , The system will starts loading Android Wear2.0 to your verizon LG urbane 2nd edition watch (W200V) and once the process is finished , reboot to system.
1st boot will take some time , Have patience !! after all you have done ever thing right till now. (approx 5-10 mins, sometimes 15 mins)
Now your watch has Android wear 2.0 , enjoy.
Initially it might feel the OS is slow but allow the OS to settle down after that its snappy and the battery backup is also good in my opinion.
If you want to restore Stock recovery image just in case if you don't like TWRP, then
download the below targz file and extrat recovery.img file , LG Urbane 2 stock recovery image.
Link ,
enable ADB options under settings similar what we performed earlier.
1) Boot into bootloader
"adb reboot bootloader"
Stock Android wear 1.5 for LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE(extract the file and copy recovery.img file to your folder , https://storage.googleapis.com/andr...wear-preview/nemo-mfd18l-factory-3faf6f2d.tgz (The file extension is */tgz(targz) , use 7zip application to extract the files and you will see recovery.img file .
Place a copy of recovery.img in "C:\adb\recovery.img"
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
You can also Lock Bootloader to avoid the Notification at each boot.
"fastboot oem lock"
To get back to original android watch wear 1.5
if you don't like Android wear 2.0 use the below link and follow instruction to revert back to Android wear 1.5.
Stock Android wear 1.5 for LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE , https://storage.googleapis.com/andr...wear-preview/nemo-mfd18l-factory-3faf6f2d.tgz (The file extension is */tgz(targz) , use 7zip application to extract the files.
Extract the *.tgz(targz) into your folder ("C:\adb")
Perform a "fastboot oem unlock", then run "flash-all.bat". Afterwards, you can "fastboot oem lock". This should restore you back to 1.5, where you need to take 1 OTA (from June 2016 Patch to December 2016 Patch).
Thanks All,
Missed something
Tried a thousand times. Not working **update** Looks like maybe It was just a buggy USB. I held it to the watch while flashing and it finally worked! I'm curious to hear anyone else's experiences with this cause it seems buggy but what would you expect? My apologies ty!
Has anyone other than the original poster tried this guide and been successful?

It does work I had problems but I think holding the USB to the watch helps. I tried it a lot but it was worth it. Suck it verizon!

Ty! I think my USB connector is just a bit jinky.
I'm going to give this a try soon, everything working like lte, messages+, and phone?
Almost got it working
Followed all the directions and all seemed to work ok without errors. However, on startup now the watch is stuck on the startup splash screen (the animated google logo, has stayed there for hours). Can still access fastboot but unable to connect via ADB since the OS is not starting fully.
I also tried to restore back to 1.5 but since i can only access fastboot, my only option is to sideload but wont work with the TGZ link above.
Anyone have any ideas? or the zip file I could use to sideload the stock Wear1.5?
Thanks
Just making sure !! Try force restarting the watch by holding power button.
Did you reset the watch before sideloading ?
On android wear 1.5 use 7zip and unzip the tgz file and browse the folder till you see flashall bat file and run the same in bootloader. I have tried it and it works. Let us know if your still facing issues.
Locked /data won't allow sideload.
Hi, I've installed twrp, but it fails to sideload LG2.zip as the /data can't be mounted as it is encrypted. The TWRP doesn't have a format option for the /data partition so I can't reformat it to delete the encryption. So I'm stuck in TWRP.

I had similar issue initially , had to restore back to 1.5 and then clean all the data and then sideload 2.0 back. Try that and let us know if that worked.
You are the man! That worked
Installed recovery.img bootloader, then ran the 1.5 bat file, then reinstalled twrp. /data unlocked and mounted, sideloaded 2.0. You turned my brick back into a watch. Thank you very much.

Thanks.
I made sure to reset before force restart and reset before sideloading. Still having some trouble with the 1.5 reset though.
In bootloader, which option to I select for flashall to work? ADB Devices can't see it and if i just run from bootloader home screen i get , <waiting for any device>. Same thing in TWRP.
Thanks again for your help
[Note for other users unfamiliar with this process & having similar problems - you'll have to unzip the source file, then unzip "output" to extract all the files... tooke me a few attempts to realize i missed a step!]
Solved flash-all not working

As with some other users the cable connection seemed to be causeing me some problems. I used a different USB port and held the connector against the watch and flashing to 1.5 worked this time.

Flash the original recovery.img extracted from the .tgz file and try again it should work.
For ADB access in TWRP use sideload using ADB option .
So will android pay work now with this

I think I am having the same issue as you. I was sideloading 2.0 as instructed and I think I had a bad cable connection. I am now stuck with no wear operating system at all. When I start my phone it only stays on LG boot screen with the unlock icon on the bottom. My computer is now unable to recognize the device because I cannot get into settings to turn on ADB Debugging. If I follow the same steps as you can I sideload wear 1.5 and update via boot loader screen?
