I cannot find the shortcut for the stocks app from the app drawer. I can get to it by creating a widget on the homescreen, or from the Apex launcher, but not from the stock launcher.
Anybody else facing the same issue?
It's the same thing for Polaris Office too. Weird.

I did this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26193552&postcount=2
to put it in a folder on my Home Screen.
Weird. I wonder if this is just a bug, of if AT&T hid this on purpose (and if so, why?).
I assumed there was no app for viewing MS Office documents, and went ahead and installed Office Suite (which I had luckily gotten as an Amazon "free app of the day" a while back). It wasn't until today that I tried to open an Excel document, and I was given the choice of opening with Polaris or Office Suite. I was like WTF, Polaris is there, why isn't it in the app drawer???

Yeah...I can't seem to find SoundHound in the drawer. Sucks because I actually want to use the app and can't access it. It doesn't let me delete and download in Google Play.

If you open the Music app, Soundhound should be listed there. Seems liked they tried to unify things a bit by throwing Soundhound, TuneIn, etc. under the Music app. Also, if you install Pandora or other music apps, it should automatically add a shortcut in Music (at least it did for me), and you can also add other shortcuts manually. But that doesn't fully explain why TuneIn can be found in the app drawer, and not Soundhound.

Hi guys!
Now that we have 2.1 and Androids nice gallery, is there any way to get a simple shortcut to the android standard gallery in the app drawer instead of Mediascape?
I know its there because some Apps that let you choose pictures for whatever reason use it and not Mediascape, but I have not found a way to simply open it from the app drawer...
i have found the APK for gallery but doesn't seem to work, have a play see if you can get it working?
http://www.techcredo.com/goodies/Nexus-One-Cooliris-3D-Gallery-App.rar
No luck here...
dammn SE, could have at least given us a choice
Lol man just download ADW launcher and create a shortcut fot the Gallery activity
it actually works
people in this forum seem to surrender too easily
Or you could just add the Picture Frame widget to one of your home screens. Clicking the widget takes you to the 3D gallery.
Picture Frame takes you only to the 3D Gallery once and when u select the pic u want to use u cant go to gallery again just by clicking on PF widget. What to do then? I want that gallery and not mediascape
I swear I saw it one of the eary vids of 2.1 :s

Creating a shortcut to the gallery activity works nicely, thanks mate!
Would be nice to have it appear in the app drawer though...
But is it possible to get the shortcut over to the standard SE launcher in 2.1? I kinda liked the new default launcher, well compared to the old one in 1.6 :-D

Most of all because it looks more like ADW
stock music
IS THERE the stock music player in 2.1 or are we still stuck with timescape
I think its this app: http://www.cooliris.com/mobile/nexus-one/
I already tried to install it but it fails to update or start.
They are all there, just hidden that is all.
the APK's are sat in system/app/ in the root directory and the handset.
All you need to do is make a link to it and and you will have them there.
Oh thanks Chewitt, I didn't know there was a built-in media player in 2.1. That one works fine and is very fast! Fu mediascape

yeah its called Music.apk
ctrl folder gives you link o 3d gallery and a folder option
[APP] Gallery and Music Launcher for Xperia X10 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826311
Also with LauncherPro
A. Now, that we have 2.1, I recommend using LauncherPro instead of ADW - it is much more powerful
B. As suggested for ADW - if you want to create a direct link for the original gallery APP and the original music app, just create activities shortcut (you will find the gallery and music apps in the activities list).
Regards,
Tal.

install either launcherpro/ADW dont set them as default home. turn off phone/restart select home and not either of the installs (launcherpro/ADW) you've done. now your in the standard home page select the shortcuts you want to drop on one of your 5 screens and its done. i've got the gallery/picture frame and music player, then uninstall launcherpro/ADW, your shortcuts will stay but the option to find them will be gone from the shortcut maker menu
i think this will work

or try the apk on xeviro's post
is there an app that changes app names? I found "App name editor" but that only changes app names on your "home screen" or "desktop(s)" as i call it. I'd like to change the name in the app screen. for instance "hide my sms" doesnt do me much good if the name implies exactly what its doing. any such app?
I don't know of any app like that, but I would imagine you're going to have to use a 3rd party launcher to be able to edit app names in the app drawer. You may want to check out LauncherPro - it looks very similar to the stock launcher, but lets you customize all sorts of things. One feature is the ability to hide certain apps from showing up in your app drawer at all. Would this solve your problem, and you could still put a link to the app on your homescreen (with a changed name or even without the name, just the icon).

ADW Launcher EX has a edit option which can rename app name & change icon.
Maybe try that.

in the app drawer, or just on the homescreen? I know LauncherPro can do both on the homescreen, don't know about the app drawer.

ADW just on homescreen.
Haven't found the solution for the app drawer :/
Is there a way to organise apps in the app drawer? It is now just a collection of apps, but I like the idea of a totally clean homescreen (only widgets and dock), and an organised App Drawer.
It doesn't matter how the apps are organised. It can be with folders, different pages, whatever. But it has to be in the App Drawer. Is there an app/launcher/custom ROM that can do that?
Anyone? I know not many people want this, because they organise their apps on the homescreens, and the App Drawer is just a collection of all apps, but as I said, I really like the idea of a homescreen with widgets only, and an organised App Drawer with folders or different pages or whatever.
ADW Launcher has an option to create a catalog to group apps, but everytime you need to change catalogs, you have to press menu, then "choose group".
It´s nice, but it should have a better way to choose between the groups.
All apps organizer is what I use. If you use adw or launcher pro you can make it your app drawer. Works really well.

So..., that just replaces the App Drawer? That's fine to me, but I hope you can hide the 'real' App Drawer then. I still want my app drawer button in the middle + 2 icons on either side in the dockbar, but then the app drawer icon should link to that All Apps Organizer program.

You can set the option in ADW.Launcher so that there are arrows on the left and side of the bottom of the screen when you open the app drawer, then pressing those arrows you can switch the catalogs.
Just found out that Go Launcher EX has folder support. I'm starting to like this launcher more and more! Nobody knows it though, so I couldn't find much information about the folder support in app drawer.
Today the home screen icon for the facebook app disappeared and it's not in the app drawer either. The only way I can open it is using the google search widget to search for the app and from there I can open it and it works normally. I tried un/reinstalling and same problem. I can also use the keyboard shortcut I created for it but that's it. Anyone heard of something like this?
First of all, I'm not a developer. I'm just here to show a little trick I found to make your daily usage faster and more convenience. And this is my really first thread, please give me some suggestions to make my thread better, thanks!!
As the title of the thread showed, I'm going to introduce you 2 very famous apps which are SwipePad and Launcher Pro (nope, I'm not asking you to change your launcher, keep read it and you'll know ;p)
In fact, I'm not only here to recommend, but combining functions of the two apps and make it both better!!
If you used to be a Launcher Pro user, you should know there are a very useful shortcut/widget in it, which called Activity. (well, it is shortcut in prior ICS and widget in ICS and JB). With this Activity, you can just add a shortcut to a specific process of an app right to your home screen. Means that you may just go to the activity without entering the app, and click tons of button to reach it. For example, linking the shortcut to the Memory Usage under the Setting section, will bring you to the Ram Usage page with one click.
And here is the trick, I'm a frequent user of Dictionary in my phone. And the YouDao Dict is my most favourite apps, so by using the SwipePad and Activity shortcut of the Launcher Pro, I add a shortcut of the QuickDict Activity(com.youdao.dict.activity.QuickDictActivity) into the SwipePad. And I can access to the dictionary with just a swipe and release, in anywhere!!
Of course, this is just an example of using it, there are a tons of activities under the each application you installed to your phone. Look for the apps you use the most and find a make sense activity that seems useful to you and try it.
And the most important part, the apps is both free and you may just use the functions I mentioned without buying any add-on.
PS: Hit thanks if you find this useful. Thanks:cyclops:
Nova and Apex launchers have the activity shortcuts as well.
oh really?
should give them a try shortly.
I believe Holo Launcher allows activity shortcuts as well...

anycut is available on play store? Tried searching anycut in play store but could not find it. I am using "direct cut" app which is for creating and organizing direct dial/message and email shortcuts.
LauncherPro was abandoned by its developer a year and a half ago. I wouldn't even know what the best Android 2.x style launcher is right now, but I don't particularly care for them. Holo Launcher works on Gingerbread, and I have Nova Prime for when I'm on Jelly Bean. Both do shortcuts. Shortcuts to app activities, contacts, individual settings pages, etc. If you have SoundHound (free, or paid) you can create a shortcut to "ID Now". Don't go into SoundHound, it's in the top-level shortcuts. I just have that, rather than the app, in my music folder. But I think the shortcut thing isn't a launcher feature; I believe it's actually an Android feature. Is that incorrect? Can you not create shortcuts in any Android version's stock launcher, or the mods like TouchWiz, Blur, etc.? In other words, it's not a premium feature, it's just a feature.

yeah I put a "ID Now" shortcut in my SwipePad List as well!!
But half of the list of SwipePad are linked to direct call. Haha
No I don't think TouchWiz and Blur has it cause I once uninstall Launcher Pro from my phone and I couldn't find Activities shortcut from anywhere.
Btw, putting Clipper+ on the SwipePad is useful too.. No need to insert my email again and again. Oh ya, neither my home address.

how do you add the shortcut to SwipePad? I created a shortcut to activity but couldnot find a way to add it to SwipePad
just swipe to the portal you want and hold until you see it turn orange colour, then choose Shortcuts -> Activities -> and choose whatever activity you want and you're done
but there is no activity or shortcut that I created before using launcher. there are just few activities, not as much as I see when use launcher
yeah i'm using swipepad too, its a great app for shortcut.

do you have launcher pro, nova launcher or apex launcher install in your phone?
you can still using your default launcher, you just need either one of these launcher mentioned to be install in your phone in order to use the feature that i said.
i use Adw launcher. I can create shortcut to activity using Adw launcher. However, I cant assign this shortcut to swipepad
hmm...it's a different "shortcut" we're referring to.
for that i cant help out, coz SwipePad has its own shortcut and not support other launcher's shortcut.
and the shortcut we're talking about is separate thing, which are more specifically named Activities.
Here you go the screenshot.
