T-Mobile USA ICS Firmware Incompatible with mods? - HTC Sensation

Anyone else notice that the new T-Mobile ICS firmware is incompatible with mods like Leedroid Tweaks, as well as incompatible with the bricked kernel? The menubar crashes repeatedly with Leedroid Tweaks, and the bricked kernel bricked WiFi for me
I am slowly adding some tweaks into my own build, like init.d support, build.prop tweaks, GPS tweaks, etc... but there are some things that are better left to the experts... like kernels and framework modification.

The rom is probably odex'd. You'd have to de-odex the rom to many some framework changes.
Kernel I'm not sure.
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2

I solved one of the problems... I flashed an insecure boot image (from the ARHD 6.6.4 zip) using the 4-EXT Recovery Control app, then flashed the bricked kernel. All seems good there.

Settings and framework apks are not the same as the euro 3.32. Leedroid tweaks will not work even on a deodexed build...
The tweaks will need to be rebuilt around the new release to work properly...

OTA Update, rooted...

Is anyone out there planning on making any custom ROMS/KERNELS with the OTA updated? I am running the rooted version, and I' m really missing being able to undervolt... any help would be appreciated.
I have tried all the Desire HD ports, RIL's, APN's etc but the stock OTA has the fastest and most consistent data speeds for me.
Just flash and undervolt kernel. That's what I did.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I can't just use any kernel though right? Has someone posted an undervolt script for the stock kernel with the ota?
you can use any 2.2 sense kernel
There was only one setting changed in the OTA kernel, and it doesn't change anything that we care about (allows use of NAND IDs without using the MSM driver or some such). Otherwise, the boot.img is identical to the stock. You shouldn't have any problem with any kernel based on the stock ace 2.6.32 (g3c08447).
I'm running one I compiled from HTC source with nothing added but the undervolt/overclock tables.
This is The lastest Stock ota Rom, whit the latest radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042, and if want the a custom rom with the latest ota update use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996368

Thanks again for the help.

[Q] Faux123 stock ov kernal & paul's patch

hey everyone,
does anybody know if these two are compatible to work together or is it something where it's either or? i've been looking through the threads but haven't manage to find any answer for it. i appreciate any answers.
THANKS!
All reports say there is no reason for Pauls patch on custom roms.
oh alright. thanks for responding

Faux kernel is not a ROM. He is using it on that ROM - so the question was not specifically answered.
I had Paul's patch on stock kernel when I first flashed faux kernel, but don't know for sure if it is needed (ie - is the patch of the kernel or something else?).

Let me be more specific in case the OP did not get it. No, you do not need Pauls patch for custom kernels or roms. It is strictly designed for the stock rom to fix a mistake by LG.

The patch was an updated services.jar messed up by lg in the stock ROM. Do kernels also include a services.jar?
If so, then no need when kernels are flashed either, as it would be overwritten. This would be the clarification he (and I) was looking for. If not ??
Note - when I look in a whole ROM zip file - I can find it. Cannot when I open a kernel zip file.

What does that mean.so is the kernel baked into the rom: when we install faux's rom, we automatically get the kernel .

Yes - if you flash faux ROM - you get his kernel as part of it.
But the OP was about using faux (with) stock kernel on the stock froyo ROM. The stock ROM had some messed-up up stuff by LG in the (I have read) services.jar file in the stock ROM.
He asked if he could (should) use the paul patch with this combination. Since the services.jar is (I also believe) not changed by the kernel only, it appears that it should be flashed on top of the stock ROM once (unless you wipe and it is then gone), and then flash the kernel (I did that).
For ALL CM ROMs - different services.jar - no problem. But for EB and other stock based froyp ROM's - I am not sure. If the Dev's built paul's fix into the services.jar -then they are OK. If not, they might be able to use the fix also.
Would REALLY like to hear from one of the Dev's on this. Been all over the forums, and with respect to the kernel only and other than stock froyo ROM's - it has not been clearly spelled out.
its for STOCK roms not custom kernels dont matter in this pauls patch fixes a problem with lg stock rom all custom roms should have this fixed

[Q] Should I tweak again when I change a kernel?

I `m running zeus 5.2 ,this rom has intergrated some tweak script, such as thunderbolt etc..
since I have flashed a new kernel, should I reinstall those tweak scripts?and dman`s tweak in zeus rom still working even i change a new kernel?
approciate for your answer.
the tweak scripts are saved in the rom and will stay inplace regardless of kernel. but the kernel will need init.d support. the location is /system/etc/init.d if your curious or want to change or remove it.
thank you Dani
you are always the first :)
how nice you are!

Ok forgive the noob but will either of these work for me or do (I think I do) I need to flash my baseband?
GetRIL tells me my baseband is V20c
If I do need to can someone please link me to the best option for flashing a baseband (V21e?) that will allow me network access in Australia. I really want to try out these kernels and roms!

Should work with 20c but you'd be better of moving to a newer baseband to get rid of GC issues. Will be testing it out later today with 20a before moving to 20g. I'd say go for 20f as that is what Samno has been developing with. You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540163
If you want to go for 20g you'll have to follow a different procedure. There's a video guide in this thread:

Thanks mate, I have a couple of more questions;
Are APN's built into the ROM's themselves?
If I use this kernel on V20c should the other ROMS suggested in the first post work for me?
I had a go at flashing ThiaiZO3D V2.7.1 on V20c baseband and whilst it worked great I couldn't get any network (I used getril but to no avail).
So much to learn!
Update for those interested, I have flashed ThiaiZO3D V2.7.1 ROM (no network for me usually on this ROM I assume because of V20c baseband?) and then flashed this kernel and all is good so far!
Hi,
I am using your Promethius 1.4+ ROM with Promethius Kernel V1.4.5.1+
Will the SuperStock+ V21E.zip be better than that?
Also one request. will it be possible to use INTERNET PASS THROUGH in O3D ( by using a flashable zip or Add on apk?)
will you be able to help with the internet pass through feature?
desperately need that.
thanks

Hi Samno,
flashed this kernel (v21E) on Promethius Rom v1.4 + BB v21E. Everything perfect so far:
-Wifi ok.
-BT ok.
-Music: no stuttering at all (PowerAMP).
-oc: up to 1.35GHz perfectly stable.
Big thanks!

I don't find Gulliver's travel & Polaris office after i flash your kernel, except it everything's there but without these two superb app your kernel is still not complete stock kernel.:crying:
Having some odd battery behaviour on this kernel with Thaiz V2.7.1 ROM. Seems to stay at the same percentage for a while then has a huge drop.
Have rebooted a few times and fully charged and now the drain is rather fast. Anyone else having these issues?
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA
So far so good phone performance wise, Running Promethius 1.4 BB 21E.
Can't say if I have more of a battery drain with this Kernel compared to Promethius Kernel 1.4, as I am currently doing a bunch of stuff on my phone to check stability. But it does seem like it is draining faster.
Had it overclocked to 1344 without any issues, phone started lagging at 1400 though. I currently have it set back to default speeds as the phone was starting to get hot.
Also wanted to add that my music hasn't skipped since I put this kernel in. Using the Stock Player with Dolby Mobile On. I have it full volume out to my computer line in.
thx for your job! but bluetooth not working for me (rom: prometheus 1.4+ kernel: stock+, prom 1.4.5.1+, and superstock+)

Crashing - Fine volume control mod for 6.7.0

I used the fine volume control mod for ARHD 6.7.0 and it's crashing, causing a bootloop.
Used the one posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28672194&postcount=74338
Downloaded and flashed the one named ARHD6.7.x-XE-ROM-FinerVolumeControl.zip
ROM details below:
ROM: ARHD 6.7.0 XE
S-OFF, HBOOT 1.27
Kernel: Bricked 1.4 (Note - This crashed with the faux123 kernel included in 6.7.0 as well)
Firmware: 3.33.401.106 (Universal)
Any help would be appreciated, as I love this mod, and used it without any issues in ARHD 6.6.7 previously (with all possible kernels).

Also note that i did a clean install of the ROM, and other mods mentioned are working fine (battery %, battery % display fix etc.). I figured out after flashing multiple times that the finer volume control mod was only causing the crash. With this mod flashed, while booting, the phone reaches the point where it's about to obtain the signal from the tower, and then restarts.
That mod needs porting to the new base because the file it flashes is framework.jar and the framework.jar from 3.32 base ROM's isnt compatible with 3.33 base ROM's

These were built with the new 3.33 base and should be fine. I saw a couple of reports initially about crashes with the finer volume control mod, but there were also a number of reports at the exact some time about the Faux kernel causing crashes. When Faux's new kernel came out, the crash reports stopped. Are you using the latest Faux kernel from his thread, or the one that came with the ROM?

I will go back through again and review the mod file and see if there is something I missed, I didn't leave the XE ROM on my phone for a very long time so maybe there is something over time. Can you also try Sebastian's 1.50 kernel from the new base please?

It is not really a port as such. I did exactly the same steps as always. Copy framework.jar from the downloaded ROM. Decompile. Edit the appropriate smali files with Notepad++. Recompile. Drag classes.dex into framework.jar. Drag framework.jar into .zip file. Not really much to go wrong there.
You are welcome to re-do it if you like and have time. Here is the original thread from AndroidON with the specific methods.
