I used the fine volume control mod for ARHD 6.7.0 and it's crashing, causing a bootloop.
Used the one posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28672194&postcount=74338
Downloaded and flashed the one named ARHD6.7.x-XE-ROM-FinerVolumeControl.zip
ROM details below:
ROM: ARHD 6.7.0 XE
S-OFF, HBOOT 1.27
Kernel: Bricked 1.4 (Note - This crashed with the faux123 kernel included in 6.7.0 as well)
Firmware: 3.33.401.106 (Universal)
Any help would be appreciated, as I love this mod, and used it without any issues in ARHD 6.6.7 previously (with all possible kernels).

Also note that i did a clean install of the ROM, and other mods mentioned are working fine (battery %, battery % display fix etc.). I figured out after flashing multiple times that the finer volume control mod was only causing the crash. With this mod flashed, while booting, the phone reaches the point where it's about to obtain the signal from the tower, and then restarts.
That mod needs porting to the new base because the file it flashes is framework.jar and the framework.jar from 3.32 base ROM's isnt compatible with 3.33 base ROM's

These were built with the new 3.33 base and should be fine. I saw a couple of reports initially about crashes with the finer volume control mod, but there were also a number of reports at the exact some time about the Faux kernel causing crashes. When Faux's new kernel came out, the crash reports stopped. Are you using the latest Faux kernel from his thread, or the one that came with the ROM?

Hi, using bricked 1.4 kernel now. Initially while installing used faux kernel that came with the ROM. Same issue occurred with both the kernels.

I will go back through again and review the mod file and see if there is something I missed, I didn't leave the XE ROM on my phone for a very long time so maybe there is something over time. Can you also try Sebastian's 1.50 kernel from the new base please?

Oops, misread the OP.
Reading the other comments, are you sure its been ported properly and not just half-assed?

It is not really a port as such. I did exactly the same steps as always. Copy framework.jar from the downloaded ROM. Decompile. Edit the appropriate smali files with Notepad++. Recompile. Drag classes.dex into framework.jar. Drag framework.jar into .zip file. Not really much to go wrong there.
You are welcome to re-do it if you like and have time. Here is the original thread from AndroidON with the specific methods.
Sorry guys, I had a mixup in my folders and the initially released Finer and Finest Volume Control mods for ARHD 6.70 XE did have problems.
They have been redone and are posted here.
Again, I am really sorry about that. If you have any further issues, please let me know.

hey everyone,
does anybody know if these two are compatible to work together or is it something where it's either or? i've been looking through the threads but haven't manage to find any answer for it. i appreciate any answers.
THANKS!

Faux kernel is not a ROM. He is using it on that ROM - so the question was not specifically answered.
I had Paul's patch on stock kernel when I first flashed faux kernel, but don't know for sure if it is needed (ie - is the patch of the kernel or something else?).

Let me be more specific in case the OP did not get it. No, you do not need Pauls patch for custom kernels or roms. It is strictly designed for the stock rom to fix a mistake by LG.

The patch was an updated services.jar messed up by lg in the stock ROM. Do kernels also include a services.jar?
If so, then no need when kernels are flashed either, as it would be overwritten. This would be the clarification he (and I) was looking for. If not ??
Note - when I look in a whole ROM zip file - I can find it. Cannot when I open a kernel zip file.

What does that mean.so is the kernel baked into the rom: when we install faux's rom, we automatically get the kernel .

Yes - if you flash faux ROM - you get his kernel as part of it.
But the OP was about using faux (with) stock kernel on the stock froyo ROM. The stock ROM had some messed-up up stuff by LG in the (I have read) services.jar file in the stock ROM.
He asked if he could (should) use the paul patch with this combination. Since the services.jar is (I also believe) not changed by the kernel only, it appears that it should be flashed on top of the stock ROM once (unless you wipe and it is then gone), and then flash the kernel (I did that).
For ALL CM ROMs - different services.jar - no problem. But for EB and other stock based froyp ROM's - I am not sure. If the Dev's built paul's fix into the services.jar -then they are OK. If not, they might be able to use the fix also.
Would REALLY like to hear from one of the Dev's on this. Been all over the forums, and with respect to the kernel only and other than stock froyo ROM's - it has not been clearly spelled out.
its for STOCK roms not custom kernels dont matter in this pauls patch fixes a problem with lg stock rom all custom roms should have this fixed
Using Mytouch 4g, when I go into the About screen, I see 2.3.3, Sense 3.0, and the Build Number for Unity. However, my Kernel Version is "unavailable!" Do I need to install a Kernel? Why is this blank?
Everything seems to be operating fine, with the exception of not being able to see my 802.11n ssid.
It's a known bug. If you open up a terminal and type
Code:
uname -a
you'll see your kernel name and version.

Yes, just ran that command line and saw the response, thanks. But I've been reading ppl that flash new Kernels, is this recommended? I'm new to rooting and have my phone rooted, but have never installed a kernel.
Is this the same as installing custom roms?
Nope, kernels are a different story. You & I could have the same kernel running but have different experiences. I suggest you do some reading up on them first, probly could start with a google search.

I wouldn't replace the kernel in VU. The one they provide will be the best for it.
I believe their web page does have a option to install another custom kernel..
but again.. is there a reason you want the customer one?
there are a few kernels with volume boost added to make the speaker louder and headset louder, I think Faux updated his kernels to do this along with OC @ 2ghz and a few other tweaks. but yes some kernels work differently with others

From what I understand, Kernel is a something that contains drivers and settings for your device. If you did not have a kernel, or it was defective, I assume your phone would not work properly, or in the first case - not even boot up the os.
i flashed it using virt unity 1.29 and used the 2.6.35 Faux 0.0.9 kernel..

Try MDJs Unity kernel v4.. is written for unity and is also one of the custom kernels evil d posted on the rom thread, except this is a newer version
Edit: forgot to mention, stock kernel on VU is unity v2... might as well update to v4 lol

I'm not terribly good with kernels, and the only thing I understand is that if I have a custom one, I can overclock on SetCPU and do a few other things. I have ARHD 3.2.1 right now, but I don't know how kernels really work.
Sorry if this is a bit of a nooby question, but I am a noob C:
Thank You.
Try TastyMeh (in my signature)
Or Guevors test kernel (dev forum)
Both are similar, have awesome fixes, and oc to 1.7Ghz
You just got to try them out. Every unit is different so what may work for me might not work for you. +1 for guevors. 11b tends to still work best for most people.
Sorry for abusing this thread for a noobish question.
I was on stock ICS, rooted and installed guevor's test13 kernel for a while. Then switched to test15.
Yesterday I downloaded Full Wipe Script and Revolution ROM from dev thread, and used them:
1. Full Wipe
2. Install Revolution
My questions are ...
* Which kernel do I have now?
* Did the ROM installation change the kernel to the one that is included with the ROM?
* Maybe the ROM doesn't include a kernel, so I am still on test15?
BTW, I already checked on system info but I wasn't able to extract any useful info from that. I think that now I am using whatever kernel Revolution includes, but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much. I'll keep the stock Revolution kernel for a while.
i get random restarts but that dont bother me its the random power offs that get me mad when i pull phone out and its off
i have changed a few roms and firmwear and still seem to get it not oc so why why why
1.17 for Gingerbread.
3.32 or 3.33 for ICS.
If you've got that right, then it shouldn't be a firmware issue.
right now i am on 332 t-Mobile and pk 101 for rom and new radio but have tried different roms and mismatched firm and radios

Clock it down then - try 15xx for starters as not all CPUs can manage the higher clock speeds and this could be your cause of reboots.
no mine handles well up to 1800+ i get power offs on all speeds
i just flashed 3.33 and havnt seen a power off yet maybe i got a bad flash

Been flashing Custom Roms & Kernels insanely these few days trying to get the most perfect Custom Rom and Kernel. I have decided to use ViperS 1.1.0 as my main Custom Rom, I'm now deciding which Kernel best go with it and that's it, I can finally starting doing my stuff on my phone instead of searching for Roms and Kernels everyday to flash. Lol, after rooting my phone, I haven't like used it yet at all, all I did was looking for Custom Roms and Kernels to flash to find which best for me.....
Well anyway, can a ViperS 1.1.0 user please tell me which Kernel is good? I'm looking for a Kernel that has good battery life and a bit good performance. I have tried many Kernels but can't notice the difference between them.
Also how would I change the Kernel's settings? Like if I want to change the Governor, how would I change it?
Thanks in advanced! I'm kinda new to Kernels.

Yeah, I've seen many people say that Sebastian's kernel is best for ViperS 1.1.0. But when I download Sebastian's kernel and install it, it doesn't have an installer for me to choose options from? It just installs it and that's it, how would I like change the settings for it?
You can use a mod that goes with the Sebastian kernel, this is what I did. Its supposed to help battery life. Check out the mods and you will find it. Best wishes.

As some people already said, Sebastian`s kernel is very good. His kernel + as much Undervoltage as is stable for your phone should make a good performance with good battery life I`m plaaying Dead Trigger with Tegra effects enabled, and no lags with -75mV, but you need to find out what UV level is good and stable for you
and BTW guys, what mods are you talking about? I looked at his thread and didn`t find any mods. Do you mean that OC and ZRAM or there are any other mods?

For kernel settings such as govs and uv, you can use an app such as system tuner. It allows you to change a multitude of kernel settings, including clock speed.
sebastian fm is good kernel... +1
I am talking about all from my signature
Sebastians kernel doesnt offer any options to choose as I know.
The same with MOD Take Control - but you may change some things by System Tuner app.
There is a link to a MOD for seb's kernel in the viper thread, posted not so long ago. It allows you to change a whole bunch of stuff for his kernel such as uv and even second phase frequencies. It's a seperate zip you flash after flashing the kernel itself.
