LG’s first quad-core superphone will be making its way to store shelves next month. Powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor and a 4.7″ True HD IPS display, the Optimus 4X HD has its sights set squarely on the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III superphones, giving users a solid alternative if they haven’t been blown away with either other device just yet. Source : AndroidAndMe
The Optimus 4X HD takes full advantage of the larger display, and offers phablet features such as a new Quick Memo, which allows users of the 4X HD to jot notes over a screen image, and Media Plex, which provides desktop-like image and video playback.
The Optimus 4X HD will head to Asia, South America, and Central America in coming months, though no official word of a US release has been given. We expect this device to launch as the T-Mobile G4X later this year, perhaps shedding LG’s updated UI Overlay in favor of stock Android 4.
Confirmed specs of the Optimus 4X HD include:
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with updated LG UI Overlay
1.5 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor
4.7 inch 720p True HD IPS display
8 megapixel backside illumination rear camera with HTC One-esque rapid image capture
1.3 megapixel front camera
1 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage
2,150 mAh battery
Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, WiFi 802.11b/g/n
MHL, DLNA, etc.
8.9 mm thick
SHSPA+ 21 Mbps support
PRESS RELEASE :
LG’S FIRST QUAD-CORE SMARTPHONE
HEADS TO EUROPE IN JUNE
LG Optimus 4X HD with Advanced User Experience (UX) Offers
Fast Performance, Superb IPS Display and Biggest Battery in its Class
SEOUL, May 15, 2012 – LG announced that the Optimus 4X HD, which was first introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, will be available next month in key markets starting in Western Europe.
Beyond the fast NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, LG’s latest Android 4.0 device boasts the biggest battery among Quad-Core smartphones at 2,150mAh and a superb high resolution viewing experience with in the 4.7-inch True HD IPS display. Since MWC, the Optimus 4X HD has been upgraded with new SiO+ battery technology, Quick MemoTM to enhance productivity and Media PlexTM for an advanced multimedia experience.
The Optimus 4X HD is fitted with NVIDIA’s 4-PLUS-1™ Quad-Core mobile processor, the Tegra? 3, which utilizes a fifth core for the best power efficiency and outstanding performance. For maximum performance, Tegra? 3 runs on all four cores but when in standby mode the processor defaults to the fifth, battery-saver core. In a future upgrade, LG will introduce Eco-Mode specifically for the Optimus 4X HD which will allow users to manually shut down any of the Tegra 3’s cores for even more control over power consumption and performance.
The removable 2,150mAh battery utilizes advanced SiO+ technology to provide higher energy density for more power and longer run times without adding bulk to the phone’s already svelte form factor.
“Beyond the fast processor, superb display and largest-in-class battery, the Optimus 4X HD is the first LG smartphone to feature the new User Experience (UX),” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As the smartphone segment consolidates even further, it’s becoming more and more apparent that both great software and great hardware are crucial to stay on top of the game. LG intends to be a strong contender in both areas and the Optimus 4X HD is our proof.”
One of the new UX features in the Optimus 4X HD is Quick MemoTM, which first appeared in the Optimus Vu:. Quick MemoTM is not an app but is integrated into the operating system of the Optimus 4X HD so that it can be activated within any application, including games or video players. It gives one the ability to jot memos or notes over a screen image for saving or sharing with others. The version of Quick MemoTM found on the Optimus 4X HD is a newer version that allows URLs imbedded in memos to directly connect to web pages.
Media Plex TM is the newest addition to the Optimus 4X HD. This is a collection of software features that take image and video playback on the smartphone to a level that until now was only possible on a PC or laptop. Some of the innovative features offered by Media Plex TM include:
l Fingertip Seek that shows a preview of any video frame simply by touching the progress bar;
l Live Zooming which allows viewers to zoom in and out by pinching during video playback;
l Video Speed Control for precise control of the playback speed of a video;
l Thumbnail List Play which enables users to view thumbnails of videos playing while watching another video full screen.
The advanced 8.0MP BSI (backside illumination) sensor camera of the Optimus 4X HD comes with a powerful new feature that allows users to select and save the best shot among the images taken just before pressing the shutter button.
And with MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), there are multiple ways to connect the phone to TVs and other devices in the home.
The Optimus 4X HD will be rolled out in Europe followed by countries in Asia, CIS, South and Central America in the coming months.

1 GHz Qualcomm CPU in future handsets & coming Nokia N810-killer?

I'm not really into writing hardware news (I don't have the time for something that other tech writers / bloggers also elaborate on - instead, I prefer spending my time on tutorials, software reviews, Bibles and unique, genuine hacks instead), but the latest hardware news (reported on by Geek.com) is indeed pretty interesting and certainly shows there will be some REALLY exciting Windows Mobile devices in the (unfortunately, not very near: late 2008 / early 2009) future. Let me cite Geek.com:
First look at Qualcomm’s new Fairbanks and Anchorage mobile platforms
The other model, the more exciting one for most people, is the “Anchorage”. This is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform so it will use a 1.0GHz processor (said to operate at 1/2 watt peak) along with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, cellular, and a lot more good stuff. The unofficial word is that Snapdragon will offer close to the best power/performance ratio of anything on the market. The Anchorage device will be aimed more at productivity and the test model I saw had a QWERTY keyboard. The form factor of this model was a lot like the Nokia N810, but the actual design will be whatever OEMs want. So far we know that Samsung and HTC are on board, but there are a few others that are not official yet.

Anchorage
Anchorage and iPhone
The Anchorage was running Windows Mobile 5.0, which was only used for display purposes as any OS, even a full OS, can be run on the 1.0GHz processor. It also has the camera with video recording, GPS, and live TV playback capability. Because it has a cellular signal it will be prime competition for a device like the HTC Advantage, though it will also compete against products like the Nokia N810 and Sony mylo 2.
Everything is still in its early stages and things will change a lot once the OEMs get their hands on them and start to customize. This may mean lost/added functionality as well as many different form factors and large swings in the price. All we do know is that we should start to see the devices released by the end of 2008, possible early 2009.
Which are all the Phones with - 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU ?
& which is Best of them all ?
The Acer F1 and Toshiba TG01 both boast Snapdragon processors. Many MIDs/Netbooks/Smartbooks whatever you want to call them also have it. I estimate that by next year it will be common for many devices to use it. It is revolutionary IMO
Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 will have Snapdragon & WM6.5!

[11Apr]_HTC Pyramid aka Sensation is out ! 1st One for sale in Croatia

Hi guys,
Today i came across the information about the new HTC Pyramid aka Sensation.
April 12th is the day when this new device may see the daylight in UK.
Here is the info what is posted on phandroid.com
" April 12th Could Be the Date for the HTC Pyramid Launching Under the HTC Sensation Nameby Kevin Krause on April 6th, 2011 at 6:43 am
One of the prime candidates for HTC’a April 12th event in the UK might have just been confirmed. As many guessed, the latest rumors put the HTC Pyramid as the device the handset manufacturer is eager to show off. The other bit of news here is that the phone will launch with the street name HTC Sensation, matching a recent trademark filing. When the phone is actually released is still up for debate, but within the next few months seems a safe bet.
The Pyramid/Sensation has been rumored to feature a set of specs that stack up to the recently announce HTC EVO 3D which we have learned is also slated for Europe. How it will differentiate from that handset other than the 3D aspect isn’t known at this time."

They will unlock it with a future software update, i'm sure
they did it with the Desire
Shame it's only 768mb RAM....
the Evo 3D is 1 Gb.
why not this?
well EVO 3D it will be nice too, but the price will be much more than for Sensation.
Why every1 go for this 3D ? Cant see any benefit to have 3D screen of 4" size.
Anyway these days 3D technology is no good for me cos cause my headache

Why? They didn't unlock the HD2's 720p recording.... (afaik) ....it had to be done through Android and WinPho7!
Just because its capable, doesn't mean you'll get it (officialy)

they couldnt with the hd2 because winmo didnt support 720p. Otherwise they would have unlocked it. It was the stupid software restriction.
Im quite certain they will release 1080p for this. Its their flagship first gsm dual core beast!
100% find that VERY hard to believe that (as someone who has done assembler and hit low level hardware ... hard).
If the hardware exists, its just a (software) driver away from use and i'm damn sure HTC's devs would know how to do it.
edit: I find it MUCH more likely they said .... "ahh poke it, we ain't developing WinMo anymore so lets not waste time on it"
Can't wait for this! Hopefully it'll be my next upgrade!

LG’s 3D has once again caught the attention of global consumers through its collaboration with National Geographic to showcase the world’s first 3D image gallery at this year’s IFA. After shooting, all six artists testified to LG Optimus 3D’s excellent image quality while eliminating the burden of heavy equipment and praised it to be the 3D device of choice. Justin Guariglia, one of the participating photographers, mentioned that the technology is just amazing in such a small device. Every photographer would love to have the power of a great camera in a little phone. This is clearly a step in that direction.
LG and National Geographic
LG and National Geographic
The key deciding factor has become the level of convenience between a 3D smartphone and a 3D digital camera, which one to choose?
1) No Need to Worry about Dizziness
If the degree of convergence is not set correctly, users may experience dizziness due to the ‘crosstalk effect’. LG has thus succeeded in preventing the ‘crosstalk effect’ through an auto convergence technology. This technology provides maximum level of depth and eliminates possible dizziness. Only LG Optimus 3D offers protection for its users of the five similar devices. Although FujiFilm’s FinePix REAL 3D W3 camera serves a similar function, it requires manual operation for every shot and thus comes with its own inconveniences and difficulties for consusers.
2) Misalignment Correction Technology
Mist, excessive heat, humidity as well as slight bumps can cause misalignment of the two cameras, resulting in negative effects on the 3D image quality.
Other 3D devices such as Sharp’s 3D smartphone, Aquos SH-12C, and FujiFilm’s 3D digital camera, FinePix REAL 3D W3, are equipped with a misalignment calibration function as it is a manual setting that needs to be adjusted for every condition. On the other hand, HTC EVO 3D and Sony’s 3D digital camera, the Mobile HD Snap Camera, applies a set factory calibration which cannot be changed after purchase.
Distinction of LG’s Optimus 3D set itself apart from 3D cameras as the only 3D device installed with a self-correcting technology on a real-time basis. It therefore provides its users with optimal 3D image quality without the hassle or inconveniences of other devices.
Image and Video Resolution
Furthermore, the LG Optimus 3D is the only 3D phone that can take 3D photos with 3.2 megapixel qualities. In comparison, the 3D resolution for HTC’s EVO 3D and Sharp’s Aquos SH-12C is only 2 megapixels. Of the devices being compared, the only one that offers better quality images and videos than the LG Optimus 3D is the 3D digital camera by FujiFilm which offers 10 megapixel resolutions both in 2D and 3D.
Display Size
The display size that influences the degree of 3D effects is a significant factor since consumers frequently enjoy their photo and video content directly on their phone screen. The LG Optimus 3D’s 4.3-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels to offer great 3D effects.
Share with a Wider Audience
Users can browse the existing 3D contents on Youtube as well as share self-created contents with a wider audience through a preloaded YouTube application based on its exclusive partnership.
Transformation between 2D and 3D
The LG Optimus 3D is the only 3D device that allows users to freely transform their 2D content into 3D, and vice versa. Users are able to switch images and videos from 2D into 3D. Moreover, LG’s upcoming “3D Game Converter” will advance the 3D content environment and lead the 3D industry with the world’s first 3D game converter on a smartphone platform. This sensational technology enables users to transform almost every 2D game — as long as they are OpenGL based.
Overall: LG Optimus 3D is the Clear Winner
After comparing two recently released 3D smartphones and two 3D cameras, LG Optimus 3D’s superior qualities with exclusive 3D features makes it the clear winner. The device’s auto convergence and misalignment calibration technologies help users create high quality 3D content without the need for extra equipment. Moreover, the wide 4.3 inch display allows users to seamlessly enjoy and share their self-made 3D content.
Brian Skerry, another photographer who joined the LG-National Geographic collaboration, commented on his great experience with the LG Optimus 3D by saying, “What wowed me about the phone and the 3D experience was that the images would have been compelling in 2D but in 3D they were just better.”
All in all, 3D smartphones are more convenient than 3D digital cameras thanks to the ‘mobility’ features, such as sharing capability and instant web-access. The LG Optimus 3D is considered to be the most optimal 3D device that provides incomparable convenience and cutting edge 3D features.

Wow, coming from national geographic that is some very impressive praise for our phone. Just another bragging point "Oh, btw, national geographic photographers say that the 3d on my phone is the best they have seen even when compared to actual 3d cameras."

Xperia Ion Vs. HTC One XL

The previous thread was closed with the similar topic, but nothing was really said on which one member would choose. So I bring you the poll... I just found out about the Xperia Ion and everything about it is screaming at me to get it, but I don't know when it's going to come out. So which one would you choose, if you had the choice? I can't accept it even it gives the android expirience.
In that case i chose the XL for sure even with small battery and no sd slot.

... No they don't.
My choice would be Sony Ion...I think it looks better...so...get it
I'm desperately hoping that the Ion is released by my upgrade date (June 6th). I have a feeling that Sony decided not to launch the Ion with Android 2.3.7, thus the delay. Why release a phone with one operating system with an upgrade available a month later when you could delay launch for a month and release it with the current OS version? The major complaint about this phone when it was first announced was that it would be launched with GB. I'm hoping Sony saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah, they both look kind of odd. The One XL looks like the iPhone 3G, and the Ion looks like iPhone 5.

You pre-ordered? You bastard. I have to wait til AT&T rolls it out so I can use my upgrade. I just hope it's not the same price as the Galaxy Note.

Cube U1 has not been officially released at present, but news has exposed the specs. Maybe it will be released at the early of the coming 2016.
But there's only 32GB?
GearBest claims to have this for a good price, but because it's so new I cannot find anywhere if it runs Linux or not. I'd hate to buy this and discover that I cannot dislodge the Windows 10 installation and replace it with a real operating system. Does anyone know if there is a clone or something which can indicate hardware support?
