XDA App - General Questions and Answers

Sorry if already mentioned elsewhere but is there a way to have android follow email links according to installed applications. For instance, if I click a link in Gmail for responding to an XDA thread, I want it to open XDA app not the browser. Without this option, the app is fairly useless for my needs. Thanks!

Currently nope...people usually use the app for forum discussions...it's not a web browser...won't respond to external links...

Xda widget

I do apologise if this has already been solved but is there an xda forums widget available some where? I tried to search but but no relevant results

Clear your cache of your market and try again. Also download appbrain and search that. Its a non phone specific database of the market so what might not show up by phone will through that and link to the market. Its how I had to find the same app a while back.

Deviantart app?

For those who may know what Deviantart is, is there an app to easily browse it instead of using the browser? Just wanted to know if I was missing something.

The website opens up in mobile view, which acts like if was an app; so there really isn't any need for an app when the website works perfectly and fast when displayed in mobile view.
Yes, I know there's the mobile view but I was wondering if there was an app that presented the website in a more streamlined approach?

I'm an old deviant myself (bit.ly/dag), so I can see the use for something like this. Maybe a developer will stumble across this and work up something.

Swype

I don't have access to a computer so I can't do an extensive search, but I can't seem to find an apk for swype. Does anyone have one I can just download and install from my phone? Thanks in advance.

Swype is in closed beta. You have to register to take part. Downloading from anywhere other than beta.swype.com is a no-no.

You won't find the APK on the site given that would be against the rules.. Join Swype beta "google it" download the installer open it and follow the directions ..

Or google swype apk
Its funny how google has the market site that sells apps and then google.com links to free apks.

[LIST] Favorite Root / Non Market Apps

Two completely different categories I know. But here's my list, if there are good suggestions I'll add them.
Non-Market Apps
Faceniff (Hijack Facebook/Twitter sessions, this has a high douchebag rating. Use it to educate your friends about https setting on social networks)
WifiKill (Does what it sounds like, again very high douchebag rating)
SMSBomber (again, not on the market for a reason)
Root Apps:
SD Maid (cleans stuff)
AdAway (blocks stuff)
Titanium Backup (backs up stuff)
ROM Toolbox (whole bunch of stuff)
ROM Manager (not as much stuff)
Six Axis Controller (hook up a ps3 controller via bluetooth and stuff)
Undelete (undelete stuff)
Root Apps:
Titanium Backup (paid version.....every flash-a-holic like me should pop for the paid version)
ES File Explorer
System Tuner
PC Apps:
adb (necessity for any modder/developer )
APK Tool (also necessity for any modder/developer)
Personally moved away from Root Toolbox for System Tuner and ES File Explorer. I've learned enough now to replicate most you can do in Rom Toolbox, but it was great in the beginning.
Favorite non market app: Network Sniffer. Its hilarious to redirect all website traffic on your network to a single website. Or change all the pictures to troll face. Definitely high on the mischievous list.

This could be my new favorite app...
Installed today... looking good!!!
It allows for multiple users on JB...
I created a user for my wife and so far its clean. She has her own homescreens, etc...
It is the first generation of the GUI but it is basically just doing command lines stuff that is already built into JB...

[Completed] Mobile xda

Hi there,
When I come to the forums without logging in, a nice mobile optimised version of the site appears. When I login I get a normal version of the site. Is there a setting somewhere in able to change?
Thanks
Hi, thank you for issued XDA Assist. I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you using the mobile app or a browse?
Just browsing on Chrome
Thanks
Personally, logging into XDA with chrome gives you more options. But have you tried the XDA app from the play store. That works well too.
Yeah I have, but like using the browser as normal... Just a little confused why when logged in I get a different view
