[Q] WiFi not working (HTC Desire S & Vanilla ICE v2.0) - General Questions and Answers

I seem to be the only one having this problem.
Tried out Vanilla Ice v2.0 and everything is working OK for me except WiFi.
When I try to turn it on it immediately flips back off.

Have tried to download the rom again and re-flash but it still won't work.
Does anyone have the md5 hash for the rom? so I can verify that it is healthy?
Or is this a known problem?

Wipe and reinstall all.
My only problem with wifi is with hidden SSID, when I try to setup a new connection the application crashes and is no way to setup this type of wifis.

This is how you should do
Enter recowery do wipe and then install from scratch
After installation, make even wipe Dalvik cahe
Should be OK

Everybody can move to BlindICE
Come on to BlindIce 10, a really great ROM simmilar to VanillaICE

For those who are using this new ROM are you having clock issues?
Everything I access the clock it gives me a force close. Any help will do.
Thanks!
Do a full wipe.
I did a full swipe and cleared cache, still having the same issue.
To expand on foxcompany's post. If you don't do a full wipe when installing a custom Rom you will, almost garuanteed, experience issues. These issues include anything and everything from WiFi and GPS issues to random force closes on random applications.
So, if you experience issues; OS, App, or Widget issues and didn't do a full wipe that is the reason 99.9% of the time. If you're a noob (no worries, everyone was or is in some areas) I can post the full-wipe.zip that I use when I switch roms.
Another note... Typically upgrading roms, for example, upgrading from Android Revolution 5.x to 5.1.x you don't need a full wipe unless explicitly stated by the OP.
Long post for a simple question but hopefully it will help you or others with similar issues.
Sent from my InspireDesire 4GHD
Downloaded FULL-WIPE-1.3.zip from the sticky post, ran it and still have the same issues.
Maybe I downloaded the wrong one? I tried the fullwipe 1.2 and Vision and only 1.3 was successful.
Full wipe 1.3 is the one. If you flashed full wipe and reflashed the rom the issues should have resolved. If not, you'll have to wait for some more ideas cause that's all I got lol.
Sent from my InspireDesire 4GHD
Try redownloading android revolution, do a full wipe and install. If u are still having problems after that, try downloading and installing a completely different rom. Of course..wipe first. See if the issue persists. If it doesn't persist with a different rom, I would get in contact with android rev developer for further assistance.

I don't know if anyone has specifically stated they are also running Rev 5.1.3...but...
I'm running Revolution 5.1.3 and my clock works fine. Try redownloading the ROM, doing a full wipe, then flashing again. It's possible you got a corrupted file when downloading the ROM - Did you check the md5 of the ROM's .zip after it was on your SD?
I will download the ROM again when I get home and see if it's still there. Funny thing is I ran AR 3.7 and the clock worked file.
Will report back later.
[edit]
Ok so I re-downloaded the ROM and everything is working again. It appears that I installed the wrong no-sense patch which cause the clock to not to work.
Thanks everyone for the help.

[Q] Wi-Fi issues on all CM9 ROMS

Hey guys!
I have looked up this issue, but everyone seems to have it then they reboot and everything is fine!
I flashed the CM9 - HellsFire, Eaglesblood, and the one released by CM_Arcee.....
Problem = When I turn on my wi-fi it gets stuck saying "Turning Wi-Fi On...." and just stays there. When I back out of the menu, and go back into the WIFI, it doesn't show the Turning Wi-Fi On..... but it doesn't show any wireless hotspots.
I tried flashing the kernel from Rootzwiki - the latest one thats made for CM9... and to no avail.
I tried...... anyone have any suggestions?

it's a known issue. Wifi calling does not work on ICS, and if it does, it's failing during calls. Hope time will heal this.
If wifi calling is essential for you, i recommend Eaglesblood GB 2.3 rom.

Did you wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system before flashing? If you're the only one having this problem then it's user error.

He didn't ask for wifi calling, just wifi. There are two 2.3 GB Eaglesblood ROMs, I think the one you're referring to is the 2.3.7 one though.
I tried wiping data, cache, dalvik, but I have never tried wiping system.... I will see if that fixes it.
EDIT
I tried wiping system, and then fixing permission afterwards, still no luck! I guess I will have to go back to CM7, and see if my wireless works there.

Wifi error/not working Sensation ICS 6.5.1

When I first booted up WiFi worked for about 2 minutes. Found my home network, connected...appeared all was well.
Then suddenly it stopped and now it'll just read Turning Wi-Fi On... indefinitely. Eventually it'll say error.
Originally superwiped before flashing ROM, flashed the suggested radio.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik, didn't help.
My phone hates wifi apparently. Wi-Fi being junk is the reason I rooted in the first place. Was hoping this'd fix it. The fact that it's "intermittent" makes me wonder if it really is a hardware fault.
Any ideas?
Android Version: 4.0.3

Kernel: 3.0.16 SebastionFM #1
Hboot- 1.27.1100
Radio- 11.22.3504.07_M
Tried a factory restart w/ sim pulled, still nothing.
The odd thing is how it worked at first when I booted up..then stopped functioning alltogether.
I had the EXACT same thing happen to me this morning. I went to bed last night and wifi was working great. This morning when I took it off the charger I noticed that wifi wasn't running. Tried turning it on an it wouldn't turn on. I thought it may be a glitch so I tried restarting. No change. Realized I had fastboot checked so restarted without it. No change.
If I go to the Settings menu under the icon to switch on wifi it says error. When I try and turn it on it has the message about turning on wifi for a few minutes and then the switch turns off. I also noticed that it is draining my battery VERY fast (most likely because it is continually trying to to turn on wifi)
Not sure what happened or what would cause this. I'm running ARHD 6.2.1.
I was planning on upgrading this afternoon after work to 6.5.1. Hopefully this new wifi issue doesn't get in the way of that...
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to update your firmware first!
In ARHD thread Mike1986 states: 3.32.401.x firmware is required! So go to this tread and get the necessary firmware and you wouldn't have any wifi issues.
I'm also running 6.5.1 and have wifi on for almost the entire day without any problems!
Thanks for the reply BioTeck. I can't speak for BrokenWiFi but for me I've been running on 6.2.1 for about 2 weeks no (with the suggested firmware for that version) and haven't had a problem. Then all of the sudden this morning it started having this problem.
Any suggestions on what I can try? This evening I plan on upgrading firmware to latest as well as upgrading to 6.5.1 so I'm hoping that helps but are there any other suggestions I can try?

I did update it originally.
I decided to go through again...I just downloaded 3.32.401 from that thread...flashed it, superwiped and installed ROM. Still no dice. It reads all the same as it did before in the "software information" area.
I don't think I could have booted w/o that firmware correct? I'm coming from gingerbread originally...

Thanks a ton for helping me, I really really really really appreciate it.
Strange.... Apparently it's an ICS bug and has been posted here!

On the ARHD thread, there seems other to have the same problem. Some of them solved the problem by reflashing. Perhaps you can try that as well and post this problem in ARHD's thread as well...

This happen to me way way long ago, back during the series 3 ARHD. After going through many things, a simple rom reflash fixed it for me.
I was never able to figure out why. I asked around in here and else where and there were some talk of it back then with a few tips for solution, which did not work.
As far as I could tell, that was the only time ever that I flashed a rom without turning off wifi before rebooting into recovery. I have since then diligently turn off wifi before flashing anything. Never encountered the problem again.
P.s. I recalled reading something about how the wifi is stuck on "On", while the rom trying to turn something that's already On, On and errored itself.

Wanted to update on my progress. I solved the issue on my phone:
I was messing around with it today while waiting for a meeting to start and I found where the wifi settings, etc are stored. It ended up being a corrupt/invalid wpa_supplicant.conf file. All I had to do was pull that file out from the directory and turn on wifi and *poof* it worked again. When I turned wifi on it created a new file and everything has been great so far this afternoon.
In case anyone wants to give it a shot who is having wifi issues you can find the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /data/misc/wifi/ directory on your phone. Simply cut/rename the file and put it somewhere else. If you have wifi passwords you want to save, you can open the original file using a text editor and copy the settings over to the new file.
I believe the cause of my issue was actually Titanium Backup. Looking at the last time it backed up my wifi settings was back when I wasn't running ICS yet. Yesterday I did restore an app using it and must have accidentally restored that old backup. Their formats are different from Gingerbread to ICS apparently and it was causing errors.

Unfortunately after reading your latest post, Broken WiFi, I don't know that the fix that worked for me applies to you but just in case --> Are you using (or did you use) Titanium Backup to restore any of your apps? Is it possible you have a corrupt file as well? Obviously you are wiping out that file when you superwipe so I don't think you have the same issue but it is probably worth checking.
Funny, it worked!
I had a feeling the supplicant was the problem..
In my last rom it wouldn't let me touch anything in /data even though I was SU and S-OFF.....
So I'd just delete the one in /system... but it never helped.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Seriously, I've spent like 15 hours troubleshooting this...reading every thread on the net.
Never thought to try and delete the one in /data in this rom.
THANK YOU so very very much.
I can't post in DEV, but maybe you could let some people know over there that it's a fix.
I copied wpa_supplicant.conf from gb miui and it seems to be working for now, will test it some more..
Sounds like hardware..I had a problem with what turned out to be the battery cover, it has the antennas built in to it.. changed this and was good again. Worked for me..

After deleting the above suggest file, my wifi no longer says "turning on" but says error. If I hit turn on, it reverts back to constantly saying "turning on".

One thing you might try doing is deleting it and then try restarting the phone. That would be the next step I would do. If it doesn't work then you might have to start looking into a hardware or rom issue.
After you try deleting and then restart if that doesn't work I'd back everything up and try flashing your rom again.

I did try to cut/delete/rename the file through ES File Explorer and Super manager but the file doesn't move/delete/rename. Plus for some reason this file is under "/etc/wifi/" instead of "/data/misc/wifi/" /data is an empty folder in my phone. Maybe you are using different explorer?
By the way , I've updated my phone with OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5-1.50.401.1_P_release_246627z7pljztztog0er50. I've deleted the file and restarted many times, Wifi will say OFF or ERROR, i will try to turn it on and the same problem occurs, stuck saying "turning on". I've reflashed rom and firmware many times using different kernels and techniques etc. I can't believe it to be hardware related as everything was fine with version 6.3.1 and firmware 3.30... then updated to 6.5.1 and 3.32.. fine again however a couple of hours later WiFi was off and continued to say "turning on". I'm going to try to downgrade to 6.3.1 and 3.30 again to see if that helps..
I've having the same problem. I updated to firmware 3.32 and ROM ARHD 6.5.1 last Saturday and WiFi seemed to be working until yesterday. Today it won't work at all - I can't make or receive calls and had to move the SIM card to a Blackberry curve so I could get some work done.
Tonight I tried deleting the wifi supplicant file posted earlier and that seems to help for one or two calls then it's back to no calls at all. So then I wiped the cache and devlik cache and tried again. That may have helped, but I'm not sure yet.
I'm starting to see a real trend in these WiFi issues. There have been a lot of threads about it lately. I don't know what is causing the problem though.
I had my WiFi shut off again today with the same issue. The fix I posted earlier worked again but having to do this every few days is not going to be acceptable...
I REALLY am enjoying ics and arhd 6 but I'm afraid between this WiFi problem and the fact that T-Mobile WiFi calling doesnt work I might be going back to gingerbread...

Gps broken

i have a nexus 5 that is completely stock. I used to have it rooted but decided to go back to stock for lollipop. I am running android 5.1. Since I have had lollipop I have zero gps capability. I feel like I have read every thread on the subject and tried every suggestion, but I can never get the gps to lock.
I have tried the. Card stock gps antenna fix, didn't work.
I tried factory reset
I tried device only
I have used gps test and fix
I have used gps status and toolbox
I tried safe mode
I tried mapquest
Bottom line my gps doesn't work at all, it used to, but not anymore. Any ideas on what to do?
Same thing here and I also tried most of what you describe --- 5.1 (LMY47D), clean install (no OTA).
Select high accuracy
What does GPS status show? Flat lines for all satellites? What is the setting you're using for downloading the assistance data?
I used GPS Test and GPS Status -- here are two screenshots: i.imgur.com/o2B5QCk.png
Meanwhile I flashed LMY47I and re-installed everything from scratch. It still feels sluggish but now I can get at least a GPS fix after a couple seconds. Hope it stays this way.

Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713
Until 'Extra Suggestion.....' I didn't try Leo AGPS Injector BTW.
I just wanted to update everyone...I wiped the phone clean and flashed the phone to the latest stock. GPS issues remained, so I rooted it and tried the GPS.config tip and it didn't help either. Then I downloaded FasterGPS and used it (basically does the same thing the GPS trick linked above does) and now it works again. It takes about a minute for it to lock so it isn't super fast to lock, but it works and I have not heard the GPS signal lost since I did FasterGPS.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.

Nexus 5 stuck turning Wi-Fi on

I've installed multirom to try more rom.
I've installed Nougat as secondary, boot it, Wi-Fi works.
Reboot, Wi-Fi doesn't work.
Flash your .zip, nothing.
Re-install Nougat as secondary, boot it, Wi-Fi doesn't works yet. Do a dirty flash, nothing.
Install Nougat and flash open-gapps, Wi-Fi doesn't work. Flash your zip, same problem.
Before I've tried also with stock, using Nexus Root Toolkit and I've yet problem...
Only sometimes, when I flash a ROM, Wi-Fi works and it have a normal MAC address. When it doesn't work, it have 02:00:00:00:00:00.
