Hey guy's I know it's early in your GB fun so early so that no one has posted a flashable rom. Anyway if you don't know me I'm one of the "devs" from the original Vibrant forums and am working on my next GB rom. I'm wondering if the mms.apk posted here was pulled from Froyo or the latest GB leak. If not from GBG leak can someone post that mms.apk so I can give it a try. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: Doesn't work, but maybe it could be made to work? See last posts.
I just have a question about installing the theme chooser on any rooted and deoxed ROM. Is it possible? I'm running one of jboxers roms. I saw one thread here at xda about it but the guy was asking about sense roms.
It can be installed on any ROM based off of the CM7 source. (I think it can at least, I've never tried it on MIUI but you don't need it there)

No, it has to be coded into the rom to work.

What needs to be changed in the rom? Is it edits to the framework? If I can do it, it would be an interesting project to try.
It would be cool to see a stockish ROM with that kind if theme support. I did read elsewhere it needs some frameworks found in cm7.

Try to push it to a stock room with adb. It will fail, and somewhere it will say why. Fix the why.
I haven't got the slightest idea as to what exactly the theme chooser relies on.

I'd be happy to help with this. I have adb installed and am wanting to learn ROM development anyways. I can figure out how to work adb this weekend and try then. Does anyone know where I can get a theme chooser apk?
One more question, does theme chooser need adw launcher?

Search Google for "T-Mobile Theme Chooser." It was code written by T-Mobile for their phones. That is what CM7 and others use to implement this feature. It requires the framework to be decompiled and recompiled with support code for the theme chooser. It is just not installing a program. it is very technical and not easy to do.

Tried Install
So I gave it a shot and this is what I end up with. I'll google around to see what this means, if it means anything more than its face value might suggest.
pkg: /data/local/tmp/ThemeChooser.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]
Edit: Looked around some more and found this thread on the error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640592&page=54
To quote Brut.all there "I think "INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE" is straightforward: Android refuses to install apk with UID if it has different certs than already installed app."
and Daneshm90 "Yup so u got 2 options,
1. Find all the apks that have the same uid and resign them with the same keys
2. Remove the uid from the manifest and hope it works"
I am not sure exactly where to go from here. Is there a tool that would let me open up the APK and see the UID?

You cannot install it. Has to be a system app with changes to the system framework. Very difficult to do.

Requires modifications to the framework to work.
framework changes
would it be possible to insert only those specific entries to the framework and make this work? its really the only reaon anymore i prefer to use a rom, considering 2.3.3 has fixed many of the bugs that originally made me switch.

In theory yes, but if you were good enough at ROM development to be able to do so, you wouldn't be asking these questions. Even if you want to learn, start with something easier.
LMAO!
lmao most deffinetely, ive never developed anything for android, i used to be an apple junkie, up until a couple months ago haha, but im sure it not a simple as copy and paste, so i was just asking. but what exactly does a framework consist of??

I believe the theme chooser was developed by T-Mobile in Europe for their Android phones there. I don't believe ever implemented into a TMO USA device officially.

well it just so happens that i have the p500 factory 2.3.3 flashed on my p509 now right now, since they dont have an official tmo version yet. but it is european based, so what im wondering is, would that already be incorporated into the "ROM" inces its european, or maybe not conidering the p500 isnt a t-mobile phone, and both prerequisites arent met, 1. european firmware, and 2. t-mobile branded
what do yall think??
I am looking for a stock ICS dialer I found for other phones but I was looking for one x. Post a link if you know where I can get-it. I use search before but nothing for one x so far. Thank you.
The problem is that the htc dialer is more than just one apk. It's tied to the sense framework because it also ties into the contacts app. So replacing it with the aosp dialer is problematic.
Just use dialerex with an ics theme. It will replace the contacts app too.

you can add the ics dialer along side the HTC one and use the one you want. I grabbed mine out of Modaco rom in development.

I upgraded to AT&T ICS yesterday and in my attempts to remove the yellow pages banner from the contacts list I have messed up the contacts.apk to where it freezes when I attempt to open it or the dialer. I was dumb enough not to have a backup available and all of the contacts.apk files I've found searching this forum also don't work.
Can someone please post the contacts.apk from an unmolested AT&T ICS build.
Thanks.
Edit...see quordandis' post below for the apk

I just tried it on mine and it didn't install, does this require root? I haven't rooted this phone because I bought it as a refurbished phone and it has some minor issues so I'm not sure if I want to void the warranty yet. I'm giving the ics update a few days. It seems better with it so far.

This is NOT an installable apk. It needs to be copied to /system/app and given the correct permissions (rw-r--r--) and proper ownership (root:root or 0.0)
In order for you to be able to use this, a) I'm pretty sure you need to be in ICS 4.0.4, b) absolutely need to be rooted.
I posted this for the person who lost their original Contacts.apk.

There's no need for that mate. There are many stupid questions here, but calling someone stupid is just not necessary.
Wouldnt it need NFC as well?
My bad thinking of wallet...
Unfortunately Honeycomb and below is "dead" development, people are focused on doing more on ICS than anything.
When Eclair rolled out, development stopped on Cupcake and Donut, and now its quite hard to imagine someone still working on those old versions of Android. Well, looks like GB, HC, and Froyo is in that boat.
I suggest you get a new phone. (I need one too. I'm still stuck on gingerbread)

There was a Jellybean port to ARM6 devices tested on Galaxy Gio by some guy, Im sure we can make a Google Now port.
Well coming from a jelly beaned phone, you do need an arm7 and unfortunately, your phone doesn't have one. You can try porting it but it will come out with bugs.

I think you would still need to get ICS on your device, but at least your ARM6 is being shown a little love.
I'm still holding out on a gingerbread port of it, though.

Ewww...that's disgusting.
But as many people feel, I do not feel that someone will actually take the time to figure out how to do it. Do remember that the framework is VERY different. But I am not losing hope that someone....someone...will take the time and get this working. ICS is not as fast as GB on my phone. However, GNow is enough of a reason for my to flash ICS to my phone every few days.
(OG Evo 4G running Decks ICS - 7.09.12 build flashed with GNow)
So GNow is a ploy to get ppl to just buy new phones, that have ICS or better?
Well that's how I see it, the majority of ppl use gingerbread, why not cater to them gooooooooogle?? Its A shame they keep creating new os's like every year or so when phones last so much longer then that.
