Okay so our phones apparently have dual channel ram honestly. Idk what this means for us Ik we have 512mb does this mean 2 512mb sticks actually adding up to 1gig or does it mean 2 256mb sharing processes also what does it do please any answers would be nice I moved from the sensation and I like this phone it seems faster than it or the evo 3d

Dual channel increases the max bandwidth of memory by using 2 channels instead of one, we probably have 2 256 mb chips, each one with his own channel.
It should help in bandwidth intensive scenarios (gaming for example)

Im an ITT graduate for computer forensics. In this age part of my learning was to forensically examine all smartphones as well since they are just as capable in hiding data as computers are. Dual channel means 2 channels of memory as opposed to one to increase bandwidth just as mentioned above. Part of the reason computers are getting faster and gaming smoother is because of increased RAM channels and video cards increasing in GPU Cores and memory lanes or channels, this applies to phones. I actually have one , LG Thrill 4G or AKA Optimus 3D and tested it with a benchmark against some of the newest devices the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 both with quad core processors and single channel RAM. My results are as follows:
Optimus 3D: 1856.4 Mbp/s
Galaxy S3: 821.66 Mbp/s
Note 2: 849.39 Mbp/s
As you can see the note and s3 have same memory architecture and practically tested the same the difference was probably in the amount of apps running in background. The LG tested more than double the speed and it only had about 270mb of free RAM at time of test as opposed to the 1300+ mb or 1.3gb or RAM free on note and galaxy. Faster RAM means more responsive gaming and smoother graphics. Now the processor of the thrill 4g is ages behind so its almost unfair to compare app launching and phone reboot to the other devices I have but even the processor difference the RAM tests speak for themselves. Devices in similar time as the Optimus wont even come close to gaming and video playback because the faster the memory the more you can process and more efficiently as well. I'm sure that there is a game or two out there that would run better on the LG than even some of today's phones its just a matter of searching and testing.
I am quite honestly puzzled at why that was the only phone with dual channel RAM, I would have expected today's quad core devices to utilize this architecture and result in much faster smoother running phones with astonishing overclocking results.
Thaaaaaaaaanks for this answer! !!
But I have a question .. in overclocking is that damage the CPU ??? and the same question about the tempreture?? and what the overclocking actually do ?? Why did not lg overclock thier phones ??
Thanks

Does this device really have the SGX540? The same GPU as the Galaxy S?
If it does, wouldn't that mean that there really won't be much improvement over the Galaxy S for single-threaded applications(seeing as, besides the 3D-ness and extra core, the specs are quite similar)? Are most Android apps/games/emulators/N64oid single-threaded?

The omap 4 is paired with an overclocked version of the sgx. If you check a thread on smartphonebenchmarks.com it will show the comparisons for the 2 different phones. As of now the overclocked version doesn't make a big difference until newer games are released that require more power. It gives the phone more life in terms of hardware . I would link but my g1 doesn't have the ram to save the state my apps are in. The g1 requires a full restart of apps which is inconvenient.

People have been saying that the sensation is getting low scores because benchmark programs are not designed to test both cores.
I find that most people are throwing around nothing but assumptions for reasons i really cannot understand. Do you know for a fact whether those benchmark programs are optimized only for one core, or is your enthusiasm for the sensation subconsciously pushing you to say that ?????????????
The author of smartbench has posted a comment on another thread in this forum that one of the main reasons smartbench 2010 was pulled out and smartbench 2011 released was testing dual core phones. he added that he does not know why is the sensation getting such low scores as compared to other dual core phone, but will investigate and come back.
So irrespective of my personal preference to HTC phones, and if smartbench author cannot find a bug in his smartbench 2011 leading to low scores on sensation, i have to say that the sensation CPU does not seem to be at the same performance level as other dual core phones

I just digged more into the CPU in QSD8x60 It seems to be the same scorpion cpu that ships in the MT4G. According to my data the exynos CPU is 16% faster than the qsd8x60 at the same clock speed ( 2.5 DMIPS vs 2.1 DMIPS ) being architecturally different as exynos is cortex a9 and the other one is Custom Cortex A8 so the lower score. The Sensation Smartbench productivity score is exactly 2.4x that of a stock mt4g. Other things that are affecting smartbench is the Memory Score, I/O of Sensation is around 0.5x that of GS2 and 2d score is around 0.25 x (lower due to more resolution) of that of GS2 maybe due to the fact GSII has hardware acceleration. In real day use Memory, I/O arent going to be affecting stuff much. The CPU on Exynos is faster, GSII has hardware acceleration and I/O and Memory score on the GSII are much higher. When it comes to graphics at the same resolution they are both on the same speed when on the same resolution but difference comes due to sensations qHD display. So for the performance in day to day life the Sensation isn't gonna be much of a difference over Desire HD or the GSII when executing single threaded apps which are 99% apps on Android market and like with most >1ghz CPU you wont experience lag and for the graphics they are gonna be much much faster and better. The Linpack score which tells you the speed of execution of apps written in Java which most Android apps are it is going to be same as GSII, No difference. When executing Native Apps GSII will be faster but when it comes to Native Apps, Most of the Native Apps are games which depend more on the gpu so here too both are same. When it comes to Multimedia Sensation is faster than GSII as it has a 128bit pipeline but both are capable of decoding/encoding 1080p at 30fps and no one is gonna go beyond that. It will only be different when using anything that is on Neon.
To sum it up
Both Phones are extremely powerful and perform better than each other in different scenarios. They are at a point where the difference are minor when coming to performance. To buy a device it entirely depends on your choice as IMO they are both no.1 at the android device table right now. You wont be disappointed by any of those

About G2X Tegra2 is plain sucky when it comes to dual core and it is slowest of the bunch. The Java Apps dont perform well and that is what android is based on. Native Apps are mostly games and tegra 2 is good but Sensation is better on both

They doesn't quite make sense as the mytouch is a stock 1.4 chip MSM8255 the g2 and mytouch are basically the same processors underclocked to 1ghz. The sensation is a stock 1.5 dual core capable of 2.6 ghz overclock The score the sensation getting is the same the score my mytouch was getting out of the box. That indicates that the other processor isn't quite doing anything. At its not the same as a mytouch. The chip in the sensation is MSM8660 Dual-Core SoC with Adreno 220 GPU. Equivalent to the one with HTC evo 3d. QSD8x60 dual core hasn't even been introduced yet.

Nope I understand I said this early about lower benchmarks. I don't care about them and I do understand the qsd chip isn't similar to the msm Chipset. Similar processors would be g2 and the mytouch 4g as they have the exact same architecture. The mytouch architecture though similar being a a8 should be vastly different

I said "there might be". That doesn't mean there is. Most of us don't have this phone so we're making guesses of course.
Early anandtech benchmarks say (don't want links again just search yourself) this chipset at default 1.5 ghz is better than other dual cores. 0.3 Ghz downclock doesn't effect that much. So we're suspicious that there might be incompability problem. Because chipset is new, phone is new etc. And that author doesn't have Sensation too. Then I said "lets wait". Is that ok for you?
Hi,
i recently return my samsung (4th time) galaxy s2 becouse of various defects , i been looking at the sensation however i have a few questions , firstly for all its issues i like how fast and responsive the galaxay was however when i tryed the sensation i noticed its not as smooth as the galaxy or that much smoother then the desire hd.
One possible reason for this i noticed was that the sensation uses a asmp cpu , which seems a bit cheeky to me. I mean im buying a dual core phone so i would like both cores to work at the same time as opposed to one working then the second kicking in when the first is loaded. From what ive read ics should have better support for this setup , so i was curious does anyone think we will see that much of a difference bearing in mind the sensation is asmp.
I notice there`s a lot of talented devs from the desire development and hd which is encouraging so i was hoping to learn from various users how much of a performance increase there seeing in custom roms ie is the browser jerky like stock ??
Appreciate any / all feedback thank you
I'm interested in some more more info on this topic as well.....

Read up!
ok so aSMP doesn't really work in the method of core 0 gets loaded then core 1 kicks in, thats way off.
basically SMP cpus like Tegra and Samsung's both cores run at the same speed, so core 1 follows core 0. This doesn't mean that core 1 is actually processing anything. In most cases due to gingerbread the phone is still mainly running on one core unless the app supports multicore.
aSMP allows the cores to run completely independent. This is great for battery life. Core 0 can do things like play games and stuff at full speed while core 1 handles background data.
so playing angry birds while syncing photos on flickr:
core 0 could be running at full 1.5Ghz
core 1 could be running at 500Mhz just do handle the syncing
This is basically the idea. We will get better support with ICS for full and proper support for multiple cores and the kernels will only get better as devs learn.

Hi,
Thank you for you detailed reply ive been following the thread you posted which is what led me to posting question here , i obviously misunderstood what was being said. That being said im no expert but if i buy a dual core phone id rather have both cores committed to one task like pc ... this is one of the things thats making me hold back on sensation. Althougth its a great phone with great ui and fantastic potential with future updates and dev support to the touch at present the galaxy s2 just seems smoother with the way its doing thing.
As i say thou im not expert i can appreciate theres other factor to take into account such as kernal etc, im just going with hands on usage and trying to evaluate the future potential for both devices before making a decision to which i should choose

The sensation's CPU works in a much more power efficient way, while still offering the speed of any other dual core CPU. It allows different clock speeds for different cores so applications using only a single core will be able to clock it differently to those using the other in the background. Computers, especially laptops work in a similar way, as there is a need for power efficiency. Realistically the Galaxy SII runs smoother due to it running a much less resource hungry skin on top of android, but both the CPU of the sensation and the Galaxy SII are both of a similar calibre, so it is very difficult to say which is better.
again thanks for the reply , defintly understand how this asmp buisness works more now which has given me some stuff to think about

Neither architecture, SMP or aSMP, will commit both cores to one task unless the app is multithreaded and it currently needs the use of both cores. This is the same way that multicore pc's operate. That's why when quad core CPU's first came out people said that they didn't feel any faster than comparable dual core chips - most existing apps at that time were written for single or dual threaded use so the third and fourth cores largely sat unused. The pc doesn't just force the use of the extra cores just because they are there (regardless of how they scale, aSMP or SMP).

Also the new firmware has made it smoother due to extra optimisations. Web browser is not as good as the galaxy S 2 due that being GPU accelerated. Power wise the Sensation you will get somewhat more out of your battery life wise.

1MB L2 Cache
40nm
support for 600Mhz LPDDR2
So the biggest thing is is that the Exynos is based on a new core micro-arch then the Snapdragon 2, also it has the ability to support DDR3 memory. To go into more detail about ARM Cortex.
Items that A8 and A9 have in common:
Jazelle RCT for JIT Compilation
Neon SIMD Instruction Set (Optional)
Thumb2 Instruction set
VFPv3 Floating Point Unit (Optional)
Cortex A8:
Superscalar Dual-Issue Micro-Arch
2.0 DMIPS/Mhz
Cortex A9:
Out-Of-Order Superscalar Micro-Arch
2.5 DMIPS/Mhz
Jazelle DBX for Java Execution
Dual-Core Processing Built In
The SGSII has a new generation architecture as so does the Tegra
This thread is iteresting. I want to continue that.
my cpu0 and cpu1 arrive at 1,7 ghz. so cpu1 doesnt arrive up to 500 mhz
I finally have enough money to buy a new dual-core droid and I have a few units on my list. I already made some research on other aspects and I'm left with just another question: What is the best GPU in today's dual-cores?
Please take note that I'm not interested in quad-cores simply because I can't afford them! And I'm not into tablets too. Please limit the answers based on dual-cores only.
The GPUs I'm comparing are the ff:
-MALI-400
-Adreno 220
-PowerVR SGX540
As I said, I already did some research but the threads I saw are all outdated. Also, we have a lot of phones that came out last year having the above mentioned GPUs so I'm guessing we have more accurate info now.
I need help. I'm not a rich guy, I'll be buying a phone with my savings and I really want to be satisfied with the device I'll be getting 'cause I'll probably be stuck with it for the next 3 to 4 years.
Your help will be really appreciated!
*Again just a reminder, I'm only interested in the GPU performance. Nothing else.
a galaxy s2 gt-i9100 its very fast it has a 1.2ghz processor Samsung exynos dual core 1 gigabyte of ram
no doubt, the powerVR SGX540, with the Adreno coming second (not a close second however lol, a far one).

no!!
I say the Mali is first

See. That's why I was getting confused. In dual-cores, some say the MALI is the best, some say it's the Adreno 220, and some claims it's the PowerVR SGX540.
Is there any way to determine the best overall? I know they have strenghts and weaknesses but what I want is the overall best. If you can provide facts or links to support your claims that would really be appreciated.

I know it's fast. It's bigger brother, the Note, is actually on my list. But what I'm interested in is the GPU. How does MALI-400 stack up against Adreno 220 and PowerVR SGX540.
Thanks for taking time to reply though

They did some benchmark tests and the Mali destroyed the competition. I think it was on anandtech. sorry no links but Google is ur friend

Yeah,I saw this benchmark too. Definitely, Mali is the best

Google is your friend but to save you time its the mali. The following article details the benchmarks for each gpu what surprised me is my phones chip can play 1080p 3D video yet the mali beat it :what:

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the link, but I actually came across it while I was doing my research. I got some points from it but not what entirely what I was looking for.

Actually, google is my best friend. I already tried googling for what I was looking for but I can't find the exact answer. I'm getting mixed reviews.
Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it. I guess what I'm looking for is real life performance. Of course a MALI-400 on a 800x480 screen have a performance advantage over a qHD/720p screen Adreno 220/PowerVR SGX540 though you might have to sacrifice image quality.
Soooooo I came to this conclusion: All the these GPUs are good enough for running almost every, if not all, apps on the Play Store. I was actually contemplating on whether to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3"), Xperia S, LG Nitro HD, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
These phones are all dual-cores with HD screens which I consider a must for my multimedia needs/wants. I ruled out the Galaxy Nexus first because of it's 5MP camera and non-expandable capacity. Next I ruled out the Nitro HD. It's a good phone but the around 3hours of talk time is a big no-no for me (I make a lot of calls). So I got down to the Note and Xperia S.
I now choose the Xperia S! Hooray! Reason: I believe the 1.5GHZ dual-core, 1GB RAM, Adreno 220, will be good enough to run almost everything smoothly for the next one or two years. Bonus: I get a 32GB internal storage, digicam quality 12MP shooter with excellent 720p/1080p vids, marvelous HD screen (though the SuperAMOLED is luring me towards the Note), and Sony's reputation of giving out updates even to their old devices (the x10 came from Donut land and got as far as Gingerbread country).
So there it is. I'll just probably save up again once there are Apps that my Xperia S can't run! Thanks for the help again.
Guys ive been reading on net bout android phone ive been wanting to buy sgs3 but when I saw some forum saying quadcore is useless on sgs3 that its better having dual core and now I saw Xperia tx verion that won benchmark test that saying has better performance that sgs3 so guys what is the phone?
For me im into gaming RPG on android phone and net surfing music etc
I'm pretty sure only the international sgs3 has a quad core... but I may be wrong on that.
As far as cpu performance goes, I prefer the tegra processors over the snapdragons. LG optimus hd has one of these in a quad core version available oversees.
This isnt about opinions though, trust the benchmark results.

Well it really depends on what you feel. Benchmarks are pointless. only real world use matters. I would give up the quad core for the 2gb of ram the US Moslem comes with but for gaming the spores line is your best bet as those are gaming devices

Eh same could've been said about dual core when it first popped up for us. Its more about taking advantage of the cores that's the situation. Later versions of android are surely to take full capacity of the cores as more and more phones adopt. As for the phone, the gs3 is perfect for gaming, media, browsing ect. Although its plastic, the way its shipped makes it comfortable to hold in the hand

The best overall performance for a phone has to be the Galaxy S3. It comes with a Snapdragon S4, which is an entirely NEW architecture. That means snapdragon is half a generation ahead of the tegra 3 and exynos 4 in terms of cpu design. The only drawback of the S4 is its gpu, as it only has an adreno 225, which is a slight upgrade from it's old gpu. Otherwise the Galaxy S3 is still a powerhouse.
As for gaming, the Tegra 3 has a slight edge due to NVIDIA forming partnerships with game developers and they optimize some games to run well on the tegra 3.
http://androidandme.com/2012/05/sma...erformance-gpu-battery-life-and-web-browsing/
Overall, real-performance is the almost the same for both phones, One X and GSIII, but with a slight edge to the GSIII for its superior S4.
i think sgs3 dual core version with 2gb ram wont be released in europe i only saw in italy is quadcore with 1gb ram T_T but ithink 1g ram is still good coz my father has sgs2 ^^
so if we will base on experience sgs3 is still the best ill gonna save a bit more for that phone XD
Anything Krait is good, the S4 is a very capable chip. The quad pro version will be a beast.
Exynos is fast as well, Nvidia is better for gaming. But it also depends on how well the manufacturers optimise their software to run on the hardware.

Xperia TX. Go for it. No TouchWiz, better camera and design. Jelly Bean almost after launch.
it is very important to know if it is quad or dual cored. If it is quad then it will run faster because there is less stress on the cpu, then if it was dual. but, honestly, i ahve been using my droid incredible for a very long time. This is a 1 GHZ single core cpu and i use it heavily. i play n64 games on it without over clocking (the max cpu is like 1134 mhz, but i set it to about 600mhz and i can play with absolutely no lag.) so, what i am saying is that it doesn't matter if it is dual or quad cored because it is fast enough already. but, i know the international version, or at least the one i saw in india when i went there for vacation is quad. i think the USA version is quad as well. and btw, i have played with it. it's a great phone. the display is beautiful. the battery life is amazing. flash a kernel on it and i think you can run for 2-3 days with light/medium use in a single charge. go get that phone!
International galaxy s3 is quad core with 1gb a ram and is 1.4ghz which can be over clocked to 1.7ghz. I have an international galaxy s3 as I am from UK.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
quad core might not be fully usable at the moment but it will get better.
the main thing is the i9300 (international version) will have far more vast support then any carrier specific models us versions.
Benchamrk results are not that important
Get the S3 because its good for gaming with bigger screen and nice comfy shape :good:

I am also looking at getting a new phone. I am leaning towards a quadcore because I tend to have phones for a while. (Still rocking my captivate...) I figure that even though applications are not optimized for the quadcore yet, they will be in the future, which means I can make use of the phone for longer without feeling the need that I "have" to upgrade.
