[Q] GB bootloaders install without usb connection to computer - Samsung Infuse 4G

So, in a strange series of events (alcohol may have been related), the internal connection of the usb mini port on my infuse no longer appears to work - happened several months ago. Anything I want to put on my phone is downloaded, and for power I have quite a few batteries I charge with an external charger. Honestly, hasn't been an issue at all for me. Turns out, everything I do on my phone is already online.
I just updated to the kang ics rom (great job btw), and I would love a way to load gb bootloaders. Problem is, without a usb connection, no Heimdall. Is there another way to load the bootloaders?
I've been lurking the Infuse forum since July, and love all the work the many contributors have posted, but this is my first post here.

No. Even MobileOdin can't flash PIT or bootloaders. Odin goes deeper into phone than cwm can do.
Its like recovery vs DFU mode in the iphone world

Thanks for the fast reply. That's what I figured, but just wanted to know for sure.

Odin Flash didn't work?

So I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14147928&postcount=3
but it didn't state if I in fact HAD to use Altered Beast or not so I assumed it was just a Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181171
I downloaded the Charged V2 kit and used this
CI510_VZW_EP1F_ALL_ONE-LTE-CP_REV3_user_CL300919_Rooted_Debloated.tar.md5
The flashing passed successfully but when I booted it back up, it wasn't debloated at all. I was staring right back at the terrible Samsung crap software I intended to get rid of.
It's been a very long time since I've done all this new phone altering since my OG Droid over a year ago so I dont' remember if I was supposed to do something else? I can't seem to find 1 straight to the point guide anywhere.
So if any of the pro's can help out a fellar I'd greatly appreciate it.
[EDIT] Ok apparently it did work, but there's still some annoying apps in there I figured would be gone. Just saw superuser

you can just download Root Explorer and remove the extra bloat yourself from /system/app and /data/data.. Super Manager works well too if you want a free alternative
btw that rom EP1F is a bit dated (in order from oldest to current: EP1F->EP1H->EP1W->EP1Q->EP3H) but if you like it by all means you don't have to change or update.. if you want though the newer ones are in Development or the kernels/roms/mods sticky in general, and flash the same way as the one you just did

Ran into a bit of a problem. Apparently the USB cable that came with my phone is the only one that works with data transfer for hooking up to tmy computer, none of my other USB cables will enable the mass storage or whatever to my computer.
That cable is at my parents house that I was at over the weekend and I won't be back there for a week....is there another route around this?

what are you trying to do exactly? you can always download the files straight to your phone and flash in CWM, no Odin though without a computer... my Charge connects with a lot of different cables though, I don't know why yours would only work with the stock one
well that's lame, I'm trying the one that came with my moto droid. It connects to charge but nothing mounts in windows but as soon as I use my samsung cable I get it

that's pretty old school, and is probably why its not working.. all the ones I've tried are relatively newer

Well, I could try CWM, how exactly do I get to it from boot. Issue I think I'm having now with it is if I reboot to it in rom manage I come up to a screen with the android standing next to a triangle sign with an exclamation point then I think it either shuts off or I had to shut it off, I don't remember.

Rom Manager doesn't work well with the Charge.. the only sure fire way to get it to work is flash CWM in Odin, battery pull to turn it off then hold volume up, home, and power until Samsung appears then let go of power button until CWM comes up

Well I got the new rom on there. OMFG I went from like 950 in quadrant all the way up to 1440+ :| all the games I was playing that were choppy all play smooth as freshly shaved balls now lol.
I still can't use any other usb cable though. I even tried my friends HTC droid incredible 2 cable and it didn't work.
Does Samsung have a history of making their usb cables proprietary or anything?

No it appears to be hit or miss for some people. I have used many different cables from blackberry, kindle, and other random stuff and not had one not work yet.
Hey do you know if there is a newer rom or not? Or one you'd recommend trying, ever since I started using this rom a crap ton of apps on the android market are saying it's not compatible with my device

Maybe Worse Than Bricked :(

Hi.
I received my captivate today.
I updated to 2.3.4, but could not unlock, also, that was with errors.
Then i tried AIO 3 Button Fix (in pit selected pit.pit and in pda pda.tar) then start.
Update has been completed and my Captivate turned off.
Now it doesn't turn on, it is on battery and plugged in, but has no reaction.
Is there any solution? I am very worried...
Sorry for my English.
Read read read... your phone its now hard bricked... look for unbrickable mod in development section
Sent from my I897 using xda premium
I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but it sounds like you hard bricked your phone.
Here's why: you flashed 2.3.4, which is Gingerbread. This loaded the Gingerbread bootloaders onto your phone.
You then flashed the 3-button fix. Which flashed 1/2 of the Froyo bootloaders onto your phone.
Your phone now can't understand how to boot up with a hybrid of Froyo and Gingerbread bootloaders. This means you will need to either get JTAG service or apply the Unbrickable Mod.
I was waiting for my phone for 3 weeks... i can afford myself neither of them, as i live in Georgia (Republic Of) and can't send my phone anywhere.
is this tutorial for hard brick phones?
Thanks.
The closest thing to a tutorial that a user can do to their phone is the Unbrickable Mod. It's a hardware modification that puts the phone into a development mode, that then allows the bootloaders to be rewritten to the phone.
In terms of cost, it's relatively inexpensive - you'll just need a soldering iron, some relay wire, and steady hands. Or, if you have an electronics store near you, you could see if they would be able to do it for you.
Beyond that, it depends how you got your phone. If you bought it from a retailer, and not Ebay, you could try and see if you can take it back. If you got it on Ebay, your options are limited to JTAG or Unbrickable Mod.
So, what is the end of story? Did you unbrick your phone?

infuse mhl enabled in 2.3.6 official rom?

been hunting around, I have an infuse 4g I got from newegg marketplace, the mhl adapter was removed from packaging, ordered a pny one, no dice, it didn't work
Rma'd it, new one shows up today, same thing, phone beeps when you hook it up but no mirrored video on tv.
after a bunch of digging around I see that froyo supports mhl, gingerbread doesn't, phone is running 2.3.3 , I would really like to have the mhl-hdmi function available, any suggestions for a fix / workaround or whole new rom to get mhl-hdmi working?

Ryan, you're running on Roger's GB. 2.3.3
When it came out before Att, out had crippled hdmi/hml adapter. The video is also inferior in resolution.
Read up on it a a bit. Flash a new gb 2.3.6 gb. It will support high res hdmi and mhl output. you can also flash one of the custom kernels by Zen or Entropy.
They have the hdmi mhl fjx.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but I thought he rogers phone doesn't even have the hardware or something to support mhl...

they are identical in every way as far as i can tell with the exception of the att logo. most canadians are too sissy to try an att rom but i'll bet money you can enable mhl by flashing an att rom and kernel. it's pretty safe too. it's actually hard to hose the bootloaders on an infuse much unlike other galaxy s phones. if the phone soft bricks it can be recovered with odin or heimdall (heimdall preferred) in a matter of minutes to factory condition. the factory would really have no way to know you ever flashed it since it is raw file system images.

[Q] Restoring Skyrocket(AT&T) to Gingerbread from ICS

So long story short, I am having to send back my Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket to AT&T insurance company, Assurion because the warranty department messed up, they are sending me my old phone back, Samsung Infuse, just to resend me the Skyrocket through a different department. Well I've had my Skyrocket for 2 months now and installed ICS on it. While reinstalling Gingerbread back on my phone to avoid any unwanted charges, my phone's screen turned black and now I can't turn my phone on or connect it to the computer, though I do get a notification on my computer saying the USB device driver's can't connect. I am now without a phone and if I can't get this phone turned back on I will not be able to get my refund and will be out $200 plus the price of a new, non-contract android. Does anyone have the expertise and experience to help me some how get my phone working again?
What ICS ROM did u install?
Have you tried a battery pull? I do know that the little micro-sd dongle thing that forced the original Galaxy into download mode works on the Skyrocket too... if you can find one (I'll bet anyone who owns a cell accessories kiosk has one too!)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I think it was CyngaMod's(or whatever) version of ICS. ICS worked great for me for the past 2 months, but like I said, I have to return my phone with the working original OS, gingerbread. I really do not know what version of ginger bread I used but ODIN gave me a pass notice after I installed it. Now I'm getting QHSUSB_DLOAD device driver not connected. My laptop makes a sound when I plug my phone in but then says it can not install the correct device drivers.

[Q] ICS time!

I have had my Atrix 2 8 days past the 30 day mark. And recently the phone has started getting really hot. Not when I am using but when it is just sitting.
I have checked to see what app or process could be running and causing it. And I have found nothing. This is what I have checked so far
Wifi is off
Bluetooth is off
GPS is off
Here are the only things using my power
Cell Standby 33%
Phone Idle 31%
Voice Calls 9%
Motorola Services 4%
Display 4%
And it gets smaller from there. I can set the phone down and walk away and come back to pick it up and it is smokin hot with 40% of the battery drained.
I sent an email to Motorola support on New Years. I have not heard back from them. I also contacted ATT and they want to give me a refurbished phone. Which I have refused due to last phone I did with them. I got a scratched up dented phone in trade for my flawless phone. I told them my phone has been used for 38 days and is flawless I want the same back.
I liked the phone at first but I am about at my wits end. Any ideas what can be causing this?
Hey Motorola Atrix 2 users! It's been a few weeks since my last post here, and my topic is the same as it once was lol
I have a Samsung Infuse 4G, but I want to work with my Dad's Motorola Atrix 2, now rooted, Stock OTA Gingerbread 2.3.6.
After rooting his device, I was able to get him certain little features he really wanted (mobile hotspot, notification toggles, screenshot) without switching his ROM. He ended up not wanting to switch, then lol.
It's his birthday today, though, and he still wants ICS, so I gave this forum a look around and noticed this which, if I understand correctly, will get him onto an ICS leak.
From there, I'd be able to flash SCv7 (the ICS ROM my quick poking around tells me is the most stable right now), right over the leak with no problem, right?
It seems things are a lot more stable for ICS and this device than they were a few weeks ago, and I'd really love to get him onto SCv7 later today (it's about 5:30 AM where I am right now) if possible. Would SCv7 be a good choice as an ICS daily driver with data, wifi, mobile hotspot, GPS, and MMS all functioning? I haven't read anything to the contrary lol.
Also, Is there anyone I can PM while I go through this process? I'm a Samsung guy, so some Motorola aspects of modding are a bit sketchy to me lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I'll offer what little I know about the Samsung Infuse (and probably the Samsung Galaxy S series devices, since they're pretty similar) in return if that encourages anyone lol I know I'm asking a lot here, but you guys seem like a really helpful and efficient community!
Thanks a lot!
if you are having AT&T hardware MB865 then the ICS leak will work. (OP suggests that)
and if something goes wrong (most of the time it WONT !) & if u Hardbrick ur fone then pls
dont blame anyone.
talking about SCV7 ... its buttery smooooth u can go for that too
just FOLLOW the STEPS EXACTLY
all the best :fingers-crossed:
Official ICS from Motorola is a few weeks away. Some people have bricked their phones flashing the leak and then reverting back to 2.3.5. Be safe and wait for the phone to update itself via OTA (provided it is on stock 2.3.6) to the final released ICS from Motorola directly.

Definitely not, I would never blame someone else! And I always read each step many times before actually doing it. I've flashed about 4 ROMs on my Infuse and I've never bricked once :fingers-crossed:, same with rooting both devices
So you feel SCv7 is good for GPS, MMS, Data, Wifi, Tethering, and Bluetooth? Thanks again!

The Motorola Feedback Network (MFN) has been recruiting users for the ICS Soak Test. The soak test is the final step before the OTA is released to the public. We are expecting the soak test to start this week. They send the OTA to 1,000 qualified MFN members to make sure the final version of the OTA is stable. If that goes well the OTA goes live two to three weeks later and is usually rolled out over a few weeks so their update servers are not overloaded all at once. When it is ready if the phone is on 2.3.6 stock it will get a notification that the update is ready and to download and install it.

Rayk, check out the thread "Which phone should I buy" in there mr Jim tells us how to get the folks at the ATT store to let us upgrade early. The ATT store totally hooked me up even though I had 11 months to go. This may be a good way for you to get your dad hooked up with much faster equipment. That said I think my new Moto Atrix HD with ICS is going to be very similar to the Atrix 2 ICS. I would bet that benchmark tests would come out equal from what I've seen in some of the ICS threads. The screen is slightly bigger but the battery draw is quite a bit more. With Bluetooth connected, GPS on, connected to LTE tower (using navigation so data is being pulled), and screen on @ 50% brightness it is reading 4330mV in my battery widget by elvision. All that said can someone message me what the atrix 2 (HSPA+ of course) draws under the same conditions? Thanks, Jeff.

I also can attest to the early upgrade with AT&T. I was not due for my 'regular' upgrade, but since I have been with them for so long, a few words to the manager and they hooked me up as well (got the SGS3). So, from a $450 dollar charge for the phone, I walked out only paying $180 for it. It's worth a try, and if nothing else, if you tell them that you are seriously considering switching carriers, they will do most anything for you to keep you as a customer!

That's totally true guys lol if AT&T is good for one thing, it's
bending over backwards to not lose customers. Months before we were due for an upgrade, by suggesting we were going to T-Mobile, my Dad managed to get us my Infuse, 2 Motorola Atrix 2s, an iPhone 4s, and an HTC Amaze. It was incredible LOL
So I don't think we can try doing it again lol but definitely you guys are right and thanks a lot for the advice!

Definitely gonna wait now. OTA sounds good to me!
I'll just tell him the good news lol and have him wait. His birthday present didn't come in the mail yet, so that's why I was gonna do this. But if it means about a month give or take until he's running ICS OTA, then I'll advise him to wait. Thank you!
