Maybe Worse Than Bricked :( - Captivate General

Hi.
I received my captivate today.
I updated to 2.3.4, but could not unlock, also, that was with errors.
Then i tried AIO 3 Button Fix (in pit selected pit.pit and in pda pda.tar) then start.
Update has been completed and my Captivate turned off.
Now it doesn't turn on, it is on battery and plugged in, but has no reaction.
Is there any solution? I am very worried...
Sorry for my English.

Read read read... your phone its now hard bricked... look for unbrickable mod in development section
Sent from my I897 using xda premium

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but it sounds like you hard bricked your phone.
Here's why: you flashed 2.3.4, which is Gingerbread. This loaded the Gingerbread bootloaders onto your phone.
You then flashed the 3-button fix. Which flashed 1/2 of the Froyo bootloaders onto your phone.
Your phone now can't understand how to boot up with a hybrid of Froyo and Gingerbread bootloaders. This means you will need to either get JTAG service or apply the Unbrickable Mod.

I was waiting for my phone for 3 weeks... i can afford myself neither of them, as i live in Georgia (Republic Of) and can't send my phone anywhere.
is this tutorial for hard brick phones?
Thanks.

The closest thing to a tutorial that a user can do to their phone is the Unbrickable Mod. It's a hardware modification that puts the phone into a development mode, that then allows the bootloaders to be rewritten to the phone.
In terms of cost, it's relatively inexpensive - you'll just need a soldering iron, some relay wire, and steady hands. Or, if you have an electronics store near you, you could see if they would be able to do it for you.
Beyond that, it depends how you got your phone. If you bought it from a retailer, and not Ebay, you could try and see if you can take it back. If you got it on Ebay, your options are limited to JTAG or Unbrickable Mod.

So, what is the end of story? Did you unbrick your phone?

[Q] Help with Atrix Bootloader Unlock

I am scared to flash pudding on stock At&t gingerbread rom (2.34, 4.5.91) to unlock the bootloader. I followed the instructions on briefmobile exactly; http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader, and I bricked 2, yes 2 atrix phones. Luckily I am within my 30 days so I brought back to best buy with no hassle. I hope att does not charge me for the phones (keeping my fingers crossed).
Anyway, if I flash the pudding file with RSD lite will this happen again? And does anyone know why the hell it bricked 2 phones? I mean really bricked, like fried, no green light no nothing, dead, even tried the usb cord trick directly to the battery and phone, nuthin!
I was on stock rom with 1.83 2.2 froyo with the first two bricks, and yes i tried again because I thought possibly my battery ran out of juice before completing the flash and obviously it was not. I followed the directions perfectly and have rooted many phones, jtagged 360's, jaibroken ps3's, and hacked wii's so I am not new to this game. I also repair electronics so I am pretty good at these types of things, never f&*^%$ up before. Anyway, I want to unlock my BL to put cherry blur on my atrix, but I am really scared to try this again.
Anyone did this on their atrix rooted running stock gingerbread (it came out of the box this way)?

Should be fine, make sure you use the AT&T fix and not the IHOP-Bell one. I had no troubles.
If you try to go back to a lower version after doing this however, you will brick. See Fruit Cakes for more details.
Good luck!

You either have a severe hardware failure or a corrupt bootloader.
Since it's nearly impossible to corrupt bootloaders on our device I'm guessing hardware failure. Take it in for warranty service.
What were you doing with it before it died? Provide details.

I'll see your corrupt bootloaders and raise you a 10 kiloton explosion.
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology.
I have had two people now that have had completely dead batteries and did not know. Try to charge your battery. See if the emblem comes on while charging. If it does leave it alone for at least 4 hrs then try to enter download.

If you are using a Windows PC to run Odin, make sure that you have installed the correct drivers to connect with your phone. I believe these are proper:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...ATT_SGH-i997_Infuse4G_USB_Drivers_5_2_0_2.zip
You can also spend $1.99 on eBay for a resistor jig:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=jig+download
I once had something crazy happen after a bad crash with an experimental overclock kernel for the vibrant on my captivate. the screen went black even in download mode. but the phone was infact in download mode just no screen image. it flashed in odin and restored me back to stock.
I know its an off chance but if you happen to have had a similar error and your drivers in windows aren't installed right then it may look like a hardware failure.
if you have insurance get another one. if you haven't voided the warenty send it to Samsung. if you want to help out development donate it to Adam outler. he wants something not restorable by normal means.
My Infuse recently did the very same thing. DEAD ON ARRIVAL! I tried all forms of CPR but she died an untimely death while attempting to flash back to stock. I had done that many times before so it wasn't anything I did wrong. I took it back to the ATT Store and they sent me to the device support center to get a new one. The new one is far more stable ans performs better than my original out of the box model. So just take it back and get another one or call warranty and they will ship you one overnight.

Yeah, you just got a bad model, it happens.
At OP, if you have warranty with AT&T, take it back to the store, and ask for another one. If not, call Samsung, you can ship them your phone and then they'll either fix it, or send you another one.

Depending on what you were doing, you may have hard bricked your phone. A usb jig may work for a soft brick but since your phone has no response whatsoever, chances are its hard bricked. Go to "mobiletechvideos.com" they provide a JTAG service that unbricks hard bricked phones. give it a shot
Why pay for JTAG service when his device is still under warranty? Contact AT&T or Samsung. One of the two will hook you up.

[Q] Unbrickable Samsung Galaxy S?

I am unable to get into download mode, or recovery mode. I have tried making a JIG device and that did not work either. When I plug the device in via computer or its charger the screen flashes on and off as a blank white screen. Odin Connects when the screen turns white but disconnects when the screen shuts off again. I do not have a warranty with samsung nor am able to find any cell phone repair store in my city able to unbrick the device. Does anyone have any advice for me?!?
connect to cpu...then hold vol key and power key together till phone reboots itself...it might take a couple minutes of holding the buttons down and letting it cycle through the reboot a few times...don't let go of the keys until you see the big yellow triangle....run odin before you do all of this so that it is waiting for communication ...also try heimdall or kies...hope this helps a little
The phone is hard bricked, meaning that entering download or recovery mode is not an option.
hence the flashing of the white screen....
sorry I thought you were just having a problem getting your cpu to talk to it...what kind of rom did you try to flash originally? was it from clockwork mod? The galaxy series phones for some reason aren't working with CWM unless it's forced through programming (i'm not 100% about this, and I don't know how to do it)..do you think heimdall would hold on to communication rather than odin? I hope your able to figure this out without too much anxiety...sounds pretty rough though. Have you tried SDK software to get communication with your phone? GL and let me know if you figure it out.
The rom I tried to flash originally was a rooted version of Gingerbread 2.3.3 but there was an interruption during the update process. I cant connect to heimdall as I am not able access download mode. I have read on the xda forums that this device is almsot impossible to brick but I am starting to wonder if this phone can ever be recovered.
I feel your pain!
Bricked mine the same way with interruption. Built the jig and tried to see the pins to hold it to but they were to small. had to just guess/hold it to the right side of the socket and move it slightly every 5 sec. Surprisingly worked for me and the digger appeared. Pro jig from ebay now on route!
I have tried the JIG method and was unsuccessful. I have spoke with someone about a pro jig and he said my only option is a JTAG at this point. I have asked every cellular repair store in my city and they all said they are unable to perform a JTAG, half of them had never heard of a JTAG. Can anyone recommend where I would send my phone for such a service?
There's a guy on these forums Adam something. He does jtag repair. Let me see if I can find his user name for you.
Edit: his user name is adamoutler shoot him a PM as he may be able to help you get back up and running and also make it unbrickable for good at the same time.

Thanks for your help guys but I guess I will end up getting it JTAGed by someone, I also found a website that JTAGs most phones for about $50 in the US. I will provide the link for other members.

[q] need opinion!!

Hey guys
I gave my cousin my infuse 4g, which was running gtg's Infused latest ROM.
According to her, she was at the mall and she pulled out the phone from her pocket and all she saw was infinite logo bootloop.
At first to me it seemed like a soft brick but it's not recoverable.
When I put the battery in, it goes into infinite samsung logo bootloop.
Three button combo to CWM doesn't work, the download mode jig also does not work.
when i put the download jig in, the yellow downloading mode logo shows up for 2 seconds and then the phone turns off. and the process repeats.
When i put the charging cable in, it infinitely loops the "battery picture", turning off 1 second later everytime and turning back on...
I plan on taking it back to the AT&T Service Shop for a chance at claiming a replacement device.
So here's my question.
I've tried everything I can to get this thing back to a working state, but to no avail.
Does this mean that the engineers at the service center will also not be able to get it back up (meaning that they won't be able to tell that i've voided the warranty)?
I mean, something is seriously wrong with this infuse. it won't even go to download mode.
I bought this device back in July 2011, so I'm still under that 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
Do you guys think I will be able to get a replacement device?
Thanks guys!

jhong91,
It is not often but several other users have reported similar hard power loops that you're describing.
If you go back through the Q/A thread, there are a few with this.
Some users have succeeded in restoring their device via jtag method - by mobiletech or something like that.
Others opted for the replacement and was successful too.
Look through the last 20-40 pages...(garen21, brazcub may have similar situation ) Others have been told that it was due to corrosion of the battery terminal or bad circuit board.

Hello,
thanks for the reply!
if the problem really is, as you may have kindly pointed out, with the circuit board or bad battery terminal, do you think it's unrecoverable even by the AT&T technicians (or mobiletechvideo's jtag service)?
Also, this is my first time dealing with warranties on smartphone.
If they happen to find out that I have voided the warranty by rooting the phone, the worst thing that could happen is not getting a replacement device right? they can't charge me or penalize me right?
Thanks in advance!
You will be OK.
I bricked mine and sent it in, they didn't even realize it was rooted and sent me a new one. Just don't mention it man. Also its better if you take it to a smaller att store, they seem to be a bit cooler then the big corporate stores

[q] can i recover hard bricked vibrant with adb windows terminal

Can i use adb windows terminal to recover samsung galaxy (s)ucks i cant get odin to recognize device cause of the hard bricked state of the overpriced phone but last night i was jacking around and i pulled up the device through the command prompt is there any way i can push a .pit and.tar into the (piece of ****) phone.
i used odin to flash a bootloader phone was rooted
Vibrant_GB_Mod.tar <----------------------------------------------------------------------------------guess this is where i effed up
that was the file
no power up at all could be a nice display piece at a flea market phone booth
model # is sgh-t959v
ok so im sorry if i wasnt born with the samsung gene and i missed the sign at the entrance that said no noobs but here i am i already have my a+, net+, and security+ oh and i already taught myself how to fix hdtv's, plasmas and 3d tv's which was very simply so i guess all that is left is cdma/gsm technology which i am picking up on very quickly not really to concerned with the price of the phone as to the knowledge i will gain from the expense oh and dont forget the hours of entertainment i will get out of desoldering the board and frankenfrying it but i will from this point on research the model, firmware software hardware and be sure not to slip off the tightrope you have laid before me and others to cross into the xda dev world
If you have a vibrant you are in the wrong forum. Check the model number under your battery.
First, don't blame the phone because you screwed something up. It's not the phones fault you flashed the wrong stuff to it or couldn't read properly first before jumping in. Thousands of us use the phone, have it modded and haven't hard bricked it.
2nd sticked thread right at the top here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1066
THIS PHONE IS NOT THE VIBRANT.
If you do have the 959v and you flashed something made for the 959, how is that the stupid phones fault? You don't even have to flash bootloaders, so not sure why you even did that.
I'm not sure if a usb-jig will get you out of that mode or not, or if you'll have to send it away.
Feel you're frustrated, but it's like getting blaming Sony because your PS3 is bricked because you tried to flash a 360 firmware to it. Not their fault.
Mama said if u aint got nuthin nice to say then dont say ****
OK MADE A JIG SEEMS TO PUT DEVICE INTO DOWNLOAD MODE ADB RECOGNIZES DEVICE BUT SEEMS LIKE FILE SYSTEM IS EMPTY NO RECOVERY NOW I AM STUMPED ANYONE WANT TO TAKE A SHOT I WILL FED EX YOU THE DEVICE AND PUT AN INSURANCE ON IT GOD FORBID THAT SUMTHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO IT CAUSE I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS THING OUT
this is where i would post a link but since xda developers wont allow it cuz i havent posted 10 links yet i will just post this sentence.
if you're in download mode, eolie's 1 click flashing with bootloaders should get you back to stock.
