Droid Overclock [Pretty Sweet App]

Droid Overclock is an app I ran across on the Market today with all sorts of nice features.
It may have been out for awile, I just didnt see it.
It costs $1.50. Very Nice App

Looks like it does alot more then setcpu

Oh yeah, I bought this app when I had my d2. Wasn't sure if it supported the incredible though and I just use the built in overclocking in CM.
Its a sweet app though and jrummy did a nice job with the interface.

Makes your processor operate at a faster speed, speeding up your phone. It kills your battery faster though.

Actually (What effects screen brightness and OC CPU have on battery) speeding up your cpu doesn't effect that battery as much as you think its very minimal. So overclock all you want

Does it harm your phone in any way?

This actually looks a lot better than SetCPU. I like it.

If you overclock too high, to a incompatible setting, the phone will just go into a loop mode. The setting won't be stable.. it errors itself and can't correct it. So you need to scale it back down. Sorry if I don't know all the terms and such.. dinc's are fast just to begin with. I oc'd so I could try and get better benchmark scores. It worked and the phone was stable to where i could use it all the time problem free. I managed to get scores I could be.. once that happened I stopped clocking up, and started scaling back. Undervolting the system with a different kernel / governer setting will yield you the best battery life..

Best rom for battery life

Pretty simple. What is the best rom with battery life for this phone? I rooted my girlfriend's phone and right now she's running cyanogenmod. Battery life doesn't seem that great though. Any suggestions on something to try out?

[Poll] Favorite CPU App

I'm curious as to what everyone's favorite app for changing kernel frequencies is. I figured I'd do a poll thread to find out so that I wouldn't have to ask in different threads from time to time. If you want you can also list why in the comments.

I been using the built in CPU freq changers, works fine.. before that I use setcpu

I just started using Voltage Control. It seems pretty good. I heard some good things about setCPU and some bad. That's why I started this thread. I wanna know the difference between all of them cuz there's so many lol. Like, I don't know if some are the same app with just different names or if they are made and coded differently to handle things differenly.

I used setcpu before anything similar was integrated into ROMs, I bought it.after a while and haven't used it since. I don't overclock or anything because I don't use my phone for games, mainly media.

I also use CPUnotify to tell me if the phones cores are active via the status bar.

I mostly use the buil-in cpu tool. Together with some other tools (CPU-Spy) it's completely sufficient.

I love the CPU Spy app. It's usually one of the first apps I install.

I never thought about that. So is overclocking really meant mostly for gaming?

I'd say so. But I use to have an aria which was a 600MHz single core. I clocked it up to 806MHz. And that was considered fast 2 years ago!
With a dual core at 1.5GHz, I'd say it's nothing more than a battery drain if you aren't gaming. What I do however, is underclock my hox while the screen is off.

Using profiles? What do you underclock it to? Whenever I would do that I would set up a profile for screen off and use max 384 and min 192 or 384 but that may be a little extreme.

Same here....
I agree though, that there is rarely a real "need" to overclock unless you feel the rom is slow or you are an avid gamer..

I use SetCPU because it was the first app I came across, but I've stuck with it for the small features. I like being able to set notifications when individual profiles become active (useful for games), and seeing the "Time in State" pie chart lets me know if my CPU is being fussy when idling. Sure, other apps may have more features, but there's literally no reason for me to look for a new one

Using No-Frills, not a whole lot of features but the most lightweight app I have found for handling OC, I like SetCPU but I would get wakelocks it seemed using profiles, so didn't add much benefit IMO.

Venom tweaks cpu settings

I'm on viper xl with elementalx default overclocked to 1.7. Venom tweaks can be a little mindboggling. Anyone wanna share their settings that provide no lag and good battery life? Which I/o scheduler and how much read ahead size? Which governor? And should I undervolt the global voltage or mess with the seperate voltages? Thanks you n advance if you have any advice
And what dpi do you guys like?

All phones will react differently so this information will not help you. Google each setting to see how if it will affect your phone and then change it to achieve what it is you desire. Then test, if you get reboots/bugginess, change settings and test again till things are optimized to your liking. Good luck, have fun. If this seems too much for you, my advice is don't touch those settings.

Each chipset doesn't leave the factory the exact same that'd be impossible... Not all chips are clocked to 1.5 think of that as an average...having saying that..each phone will react differently to different voltages and cpu settings

Would it be safe to overclock to 2.8GHz with the CPU Governor as "intelliactive" and leave it there for normal use?

The real question is why not? LOL. Honestly though I just like finding new things to do with my phone and coming from a locked Galaxy S4 I have to say I'm enjoying the amount of things I can do with this device that I couldn't on the S4. The extra 600MHz was because I was hoping it would drop any chances of lag with my favorite apps & Xposed which always seems to cause a delay or two for me. On the other hand I like squeezing what I can out of it. Same with my Desktop too, get maximum stable over clock and stick with it. ;D. If there's some downsides such as life shortage feel free to mention it though because I'd rather know early on than when it's too late. Sorta the point of this thread

I've got my i5 2500k overclocked to 4.3 GHz now stock voltage . As for life shortage its hard to say. I would monitor temps on stock vs over clocked and compare. As long as it doesn't get considerably warmer which for mobile would be 10° more or less you should be fine

Well with normal use it gets like 40-55 C (CPU) and during an Antutu benchmark just at the beginning it hit 75C sooo not very happy with that.... especially considering that's in the highs for a lot of desktop processors, can't even imagine how bad that must be for a phone processor LOL. It was @2.803 MHz with voltage of "1130" & ondemand governor. Not so sure as to what "1130" is based on though as I'm new to mobile over clocking, guess I'll figure it out tomorrow!
Edit: Forgot to include that just a few minutes ago I flashed a new kernel due to some random lag, old one never hit above 50 even on tests (with intelliactive). Also using ondemand/interactive now. Gonna re check the differences on those two governors tomorrow and decide which one I wanna go with! : D
