When I'm copying files of any size from any location on either my windows 7 or xp machines, x86 or x64, I sometimes see this message. If I hit skip it continues. Any tips? My galaxy nexus also uses mtp and I don't have these problems with that.

Hi all
i have a problem.
its not related to only one pc but all windows xp machines ive used ( im not going down vista route at all).
nearly everytime i connect my phone/ppc to windows, it crashes, ie, i get the windows 32 process host or something has an error then the RAPC window with 1 minute countdown comes on and my computer crashes or restarts.
then if i connect my ppc, its fine.
its not only with 1 pocket pc, its with the 2-3 ive tried.
they all run windows mobile 6 or 6.1...
anybody have the same problem and know what to do? activesync 4.5, u can see the icon connecting and it has made the noise its found the pocket pc, then bam...
i couldnt find this topic anywhere in xda, dont know where else to look
Cheers
It is not the PPC's at all - rather incompatible hardware on your desktop, such as an installed dial-up modem or other network device.
I had similar difficulties back in time on a Dell desktop until I removed a special DS Sound Card. A friend of mine had similar problems until he removed - following my recommendation - his dial-up modem card.
You will have to figure out what device on your desktop causes this incompatibility - please: before plugging out anything, remove the installed drivers first!
oh man. they are both laptops. thats going to be tough to remove something/uninstall drivers - doable but its going to annoy me everytime i log in
Hmmm,
try running your pc in save mode and run only what is needed for ActiveSync to work - not a nice solution but at least you can determine if this is an incompatibility issue or not.
Is anyone else having trouble getting their Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) to be recognized in their Windows 8 PC as a media device? I have explorer functionality when the phone is in camera mode but in media mode it does not appear in Computer.
I tried the phone on a Windows 7 PC and it works just fine, plug in play. I have downloaded the driver available on Samsung's website, but doesn't have mention of Windows 8 compatibility and during installation also prompts many messages of compatibility issues.
Thanks for your time and any help.
Also, the although I have file explorer functionality in USB camera mode, I am not able to transfer songs to the phone and a message is displayed by Windows that while in camera mode this type of transfer (music) is not compatible.
Did you try Kies air or try to somehow put the phone in compatibility mode to windows 7/vista?
For me MTP doesn't work well at all.
mine works fine.....I can see both internal and external sd cards and all the files on both of them.
Worked fine for me out of the box. Plugged it in and windows downloaded the driver, wanted a reboot and was fine since.
Works for me

Thanks for your replies guys.. I tried connecting the phone again to the computer this time into a different USB port and walah.. it shows up as a Portable Media Device. I'm back in business.
So I my computer won't recognize my galaxy s3. I installed the drivers from Samsung and it didn't recognize it. I even switched from windows vista to windows 7 and setup the same thing. I can't get kies to connect to many s3 it just says connecting. Windows is telling me that the device id is missing and my s3 is telling be something about downloading a service pack and windows media player. Is fine all these things. Any ideas because I have no clue. I'm a Mac guy si I don't know windows that we'll anymore. I got it to recognize my phone once sand I updated to 4.1.1 sand not it won't recognize it again. Ideas please.

I am running the June 19 build of a CyanogenMod based on version 11-20140620-Sultan-skyrocket (Android 4.4.4).
I was working to reorganize my music library and finally dump iTunes. I am experimenting with a new Music Player that requires a USB synch using MTP.
The main reason for the switch from iTunes is that a lot of my Music is Lossless encoded and it just takes up too much room on my phone. I could not find an iTunes synching solution that would transcode those large files to a smaller format during the synch process (unless I go with an iPod / iPhone).
When I switch my phone to MTP mode, the PC (Windows 8.1) does not recognize it. If I switch to Mass Storage (UMS) the phone shows up in the file explorer.
Any suggestions on how to get the MTP working would be appreciated.
Thanks
Go to device manager and look for the the icon with an exclamation mark, with your phone hooked up to usb. Right click on it and update software. Then go to where it says let me pick from a list..... Choose android composite adb interface. It'll ask you if your sure, just say yes.

Sorry for the slow reply and Thanks for the post. Unfortunately Windows would not let me update the driver in error in the Device Manager. It said it was an unrecognized USB Device and would not browse for additional drivers. I tried every way I could think of to "force" it.
Just to help determine what might be going on, I restored the ATT / Samsung ICS using CWM. Unfortunately I am having similar issues with that. Sometimes the USB connects and sometimes it is unrecognized. I tested the cables and my Windows 8.1 PC with my Galaxy 5 (stock ATT KITKAT) and everything seems to work fine. I guess the micro USB port on my phone must be going bad.
Thanks again

Windows 8 can be a pita to get drivers installed
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Hi,
I'm sure this is a simple one but I can't solve the problem!
I have a laptop at home with windows XP which, although it will see the phone as a hardware device, will not let me transfer data to/from it. When I select PTP it works fine but nothing happens with MTP. It works fine on the work laptop...
I've tried uninstalling the drivers, re-connecting phone so the drivers are automatically loaded again to no avail. Tried switching on USB debugging too (this seem to kick start the PTP option though). It may have happened when I was loading lollipop on my phone using my laptop, but I can't be sure. I put the SDK(?) folder on my desktop which I have now deleted, although this idea my be a red herring.
I'm sure this is easy, any ideas?
Cheers.
Check there's not an acer device shown as connected as a recent windows update screwed up the drivers

Thank for the reply.
No its not showing Acer, its actually showing "Google Nexus ADB device"?!
With usb debugging both on and off?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Tried both and neither make a difference!
It'll be a driver issue, when it happens it's a pain in the ass. When you figure out the fix. You're like 'damn that was simple' always the way! Lol. Have you checked the driver issues thread?

I'm sure you're right! No I haven't I'll go have a look.
