Fuuuuuuuuuuu-

Considering how much trouble they're having with Gingerbread a year in, this is probably a good thing.

LG should commit Seppuku
LG's executives should commit Seppuku by jūmonji giri ( 十文字切り ) because of their (LG's) dishonourable conduct. It's the honourable thing for them to do.

That's a tad dramatic. I would hate to see what you do if someone cut you off in traffic. Off with their heads?
Most folks have moved on through the grief cycle by now. An official release of ICS will probably not happen. I am not sure why everyone keeps freaking out over it.
No offense Core, but that can not be good for your blood pressure.

LG has our money already, why the f*$k would they care for us?
They have a massive amount of blind followers who don't mind the wait or don't know what's better for them. You think the small # of people who are angered out-weigh the blind? I think not.

True but if they saw any of the threads or the Facebook posts that are made they would smarten up, their Facebook page has a mass amount of people saying they will never buy an LG product as in no appliances either. I know a whole mess of xda users that aren't even just the g2x or its variants wont purchase again. I've stopped a few people from getting a g2x and other LG androids, cause they had no interest in rooting or modifying the phone. This phone stock, is not at all good enough for any one who depends on their phone. I'm sure the numbers from 2010 -2012 will show some decline.

From just looking at #'s from IDC, Samsung has dropped in popularity with respects to their sales figures:
Apple Passes LG for 3rd. The fact that LG still beats out HTC. 88.1 Million overall units sold (across their whole product line) is still a LOT.

Last LG phone I ever buy. Hello, Galaxy SIII...

me too even if i love my rooted phone with the genesis rom, the services is slow as snail for upgrading and i'm not surprised that when it comes out in Q3, my rom gonna kick the ass of the ICS update for sure...

Why ICS is important to me.

Watch the video (In case you havent seen it yet!). In it Matias Duarte explains how the Android team is beginning to try and create a cohesive and unified atmosphere with the os at the most basic levels. I for one, am absolutely thrilled to see that they are finally going to be paying attention to design and aesthetics. Usability of the platform can also benefit from this immensely.
I am also tired of people saying "ICS isnt all that special". It really doesnt matter how "special" you think it should be. What matters is that its the next iteration of the os. We all want to have our devices updated and current. So wanting this on our devices has less to do with design in this sense, and a lot more to do with jumping on the wagon of unification. I would greatly prefer beautiful apps and ease of use over anything Gingerbread has offered us so far. Now I already know that a lot of the visual benefits of ICS come mainly from theming and such, but its profoundly more exciting when the theming itself is coming from the creators of Android and not some hard-to-find source in the app market.
Lastly, I would appreciate it if you guys could give your thoughts on this. Are you excited to see the new direction the Android team along with Matias, are going in? Do you feel that they are focusing on some rather important points in the software (usability, framework, aesthetics) or not? And of course please keep the flaming and crude/rude comments to yourselves. Thanks all for listening to my rant.

+1 internets I totally agree!
As nice as ICS's upgrade would be...it's not in Sammy's or AT&T interest
Sammy want's device sales and AT&T wants new/renewed contracts. By limiting ICS to 2012 devices, it provides incentive for 2010/2011 device owners to pony up for the new hotness with the new software.
Now before anyone wants to say, "WAIT WAIT, Apple..." save it. We're not talking about Apple here. Sammy is the OEM and they control what happens for the product line.
Sure you can wait for a dev to 'hopefully' get around to releasing an ICS port and yeah, it may be decent. That's your choice.
My upgrade plans begin in 2013 when ICS should have a few months in the wild and become more mature. By then all my smartphones will be eligible for upgrade discounts. I have no issue with AT&T's service as they allow me to keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan.
I'd rather have ICS when it's grown up and not so much a baby. Also, fully functional on my device too would be nice.
Interviewer is huge fan of Apple I can see
The main reason i want ics is so i can impress my friends lol. It also just has features that i just like better. Im not going to die without it, but it would be nice with it. Im sorry guys who have to wait for their contract, both my parents have their upgrades up and both are fine if they get my infuse, and i get the note.

Joshua Topolsky! My man! He was the senior editor at Engadget.com before leaving to start theverge.com. He actually left his Apple iPhone after the 3gs I think. He soon thereafter bought a Nexus One. Which I think he still uses to this day. And touts it every chance he gets. He does however praise apple for incitefull design and craftsmanship. I mean he is in a business (tech blogging) that is notorious for praising the behemoth company(not that this is a good thing) But trust you me when I say he isn't afraid to drop the hammer on Apple when he voices his gripes over their products. I would venture to say that most blogging sites require their employees to work on Macbooks now though. It seems to me that they would rather choose a totalitarian system like the Macs because they are less prone to buginess and viruses. And when your in an industry that thrives off of having secure data on close deadlines and less vulnerabilities, Macs (imo) just do it better. I dont use a mac, never have, I have had an Iphone 3g one time for a while. But will probably never go back. Unless I become rich or something. You do have to admire their design principles though both physically and software wise. When you compare Apple's aesthetics to Androids up till now, its just no-contest which is more cohesive and well thought out.

funny thing is I used to frequent a guitar forum and a well known member was a Samsung senior cdma systems engineer and his phone was an iPhone. that was before cdma iPhones existed so he was obviously on att which is big in texas. he didn't boast about apple too much nor Samsung, basically the only things I remember that stood out was he refuted the idea that the apple products have Good audio. said the newer apple products are not as good as the older ones and suffered from clipping (overdrive basically) and boasted the galaxy s in that area. but when it came down to it he was a fan of ios for the accessories and high quality audio software (garage band for the ipad) and got an ipad 2.
i always have an upgrade....(4 lines=leverage) .. but i will not purchase another phone until ICS is available, especially because of updates. i want the note..but if no ics pre-installed..i aint buying.. i almost went to verizon for the nexus but they dont have good coverage where i travel
ICS should be important to everyone. Even if only for the principle of it.

Sick of the LG - Nvidia ICS driver issues...

Ok so we all know LG and Nvidia is not providing drivers for our phone...
Hence partially complete ICS roms with no camera or video....
Why dont we petition LG and Nvidia to release these drivers or release ICS for the G2x... If enough of us come together we might be able to get this done???
Ive seen some posts about a 2nd quarter release for ICS for the p990 and then waiting for a port of that for the p999 but it sounds like speculation...
lets see what the collective minds of XDA have to say about this....

That may very well be the case, but we can't do anything until LG doesn't make on theie word! They have publicly come out and said they plan on proving the update to these phones and I quote: "Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE." They have mentioned the Optimus 2X series in a post before, but I cannot find nor do I choose to do the searching for all of you. I did find this before and it has been posted before.
https://www.facebook.com/notes/lg-m...40-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrade/316431148368212
I have also commented on one their post on Facebook and they relied to me saying they "plan on releasing an ICS update to the G2X sometime in the 2nd quarter" I have posted the screenshot somewhere on these forums of the statement they said to me.
Basically take a chill pill and try to not let the phone community make you sick to your stomach, and if you want, keep posting things on here that make me laugh.

You bought a phone, by buying that phone lg and nvidia promises to update it and keep it functional. Last i checked they did this. It was updated from Froyo to gb and using a stock gb ROM everything works. Stop demanding **** from these companies.
If you buy a cake and you like it, do you demand that the chef give you his recipe!?
If you buy a car do you demand that they give you a new engine every 6 months so that your car is as good as the new ones???
The phone works fine on gb, and aside from looks, ics adds very little at this point. Stop *****ing, they don't owe you anything!
if you ask me, they don't need to update any further, but it looks like they will. Yes, for NO EXTRA MONETARY GAIN a company will put time and effort into making a product (which is now past its scheduled EOL) better than it was ever meant to be.

On the contrary, it's people like you that think everything is worth blowing up over that's sickening.
I hardly doubt that not caring about some f'in phone software, that the company has every right not to release, has anything to do with people letting the government do anything.
It's an issue that probably less than 1% of the phones owners care about. If it bothered you so much you should have exercised your consumer rights and returned the phone immediately and got something else. That would have shown LG/NVIDIA you mean business.
Stop the hyperbole please.

Did you miss this being open source? Or what open source is about?
In your analogy it would be a community recipe. And it would be like a chef not letting people in on his input.
The whole point is growth through the community. LG views the open source community as a burden instead of utilizing us as an asset.

Android is open source, not the drivers for tegra 2, nor any modifications that nvidia or lg made to it.
Nvidia has released everything they were required to, as did lg.
As for everything else, they have every right to keep those to themselves.
It's not just my opinion, it's googles.
And to your last part, yes they do see open source as bad for them, (and partly they should). They spent lots of time and money developing this phone, and it's bad for business if someone can just take it all and give it away for free.

If the HAL took a single line from aosp to make they are violating open source agreements by not releasing it.
Beyond that if it shares no code they are still violating the spirit of open source by not sharing. They recieve the benifit of open source with every device they sell. They are supposed to contribute back. At least provide what's needed to make your hardware work.
They found a loophole to be able to keep benifiting from others code but keep what they make proprietary. Way back when these leechers would be blackballed.
I went to the microsoft store and traded in my mytouch 3G for a new samsung focus s, screw LG.
Using gingerbread is like going back to old windows. Using ICS on G2X is like using windows 7 without graphics driver. Time for a proper ICS device.

Officiall no ICS

http://www.gsmarena.com/2011_xperia...no_ics_for_optimus_2x_and_black-news-4570.php
Saw the news and just bought a GNex. NEVER AGAIN, LG/Nvidia.
I want to be optimistic....
This is just LG Canada, I hope that doesn't mean the rest of the world.
Makes me sad, nonetheless.
I was worried too, but hey, in Canada we didn't even get Gingerbread (on our G2x atleast) so there's hope for it to come put for another country
I'm not holding my breath. LG/nVidia has given us NO inclination they care about their customers. Never again will I buy LG or any nVidia product (I've got 5 PC's, all of which will never see a nVidia card in them again).
I've already had enuff drama concerning this device and LG support, I mean I get the big gist of it and don't think I'm entitled to updated software. My beef is that GooG made it available, the carriers can only be blamed for so much, and Nvidia and LG have gotten sticks up there asses cause of the junk builds of the phone that were initially pushed out. They got shell shocked and buttoned up the house on support and dissed TMO in the process.
I'm done with half asses Pre-ICS devices and minor players trying to be large. Go big or go home LG, Think you can fool me twice Nvidia? No....
On the road to get my Galaxy SIII or my HTC One-X.....I'm sticking with players that got legs enuff to stand and balls enough to do what they want.
Holla'
LG is so confusing, they posted a couple days ago (LG Canada) that the G2X will be getting ICS, now they say the Optimus 2X wont? They need to get their story straight lol
LG support forums said the G2x will not be getting ICS...period. At this point I have to suspect that there is a whole lot of crack smoking going on in the LG Canada offices.

Seriously, because in this post:
https://twitter.com/LGCanada/status/212236732500934656
From June 11th, LG Canada states that the G2X (P999 they said) will get ICS in Q3 of this year. But the only carrier in Canada who carries the P999 (Wind) has stated that they won't release any more updates for the P999, it's so confusing haha
LG Can go to hell!!!!
Honestly lg makes a pretty good phone. Its really not lg's fault, its nvidia's because they're so closed source on their drivers. Yes, lg can get the drivers from nvidia because well, they're lg, but it has been stated that internationally they're working on ics for the O2x. Just have to wait and see.

I'm not holding my breath. LG/nVidia has given us NO inclination they care about their customers. Never again will I buy LG or any nVidia product (I've got 5 PC's, all of which will never see a nVidia card in them again).

I agree that the lifespan of this phone IMO was too short. But the reality is, is it that it takes money and resources to develop updates for any phone. If you already have new products you are trying to sell, there is no incentive for LG (or any other manufacturer) to continue support for an older product that will NOT generate revenue.
I hate this as much as you guys do, trust me, but it comes down to keeping the business running and generating income to stay in the game. All phones fall out of support eventually, and with new phones coming out every 6 months, those lifespans just keep getting shorter.
Here is hoping some other device with a Tegra 2 chipset gets ICS. We only need one to hopefully reverse engineer those drivers. :good:
It may be money but
LG and Nvidia's both need o know that virtually every member of our community will not by their phone products again. If its so damn expensive, release the source and let people develop for it. If that's too scary than just accept that we have learned never to trust you. The only way I buy Nvidia's again is if I get a nexus 7?..the only way I would buy an lg phone again is if someone paid me to take it. You failed--both LG and Nvidia's. I think it's time we advertise our unhappiness...petitions do nothing but bad press and bad reviews might be effective.

We're not asking for them to release a working ROM. Release the damn drivers to Ricardo and I'm sure we'd be hooked up in a couple of weeks with one HELL of an ICS ROM, and JB to boot...

Although I see your point, I completely disagree. Customers bring revenue and customers need a reason to buy a product, so this is where reliability and credibility come in. By abandoning the older customers, they're putting a huge dent in their reliability; after all, how reliable is a phone that becomes obsolete in less than half a year due to poor customer support? Now add the fact that they've promised ICS in some cases and refuted that all together in other cases, and you can also throw credibility out of the window.
People who hear reviews from unhappy, abandoned customers will not want to buy an LG product and those customers will probably completely discredit LG in any way they can from that point on. When you look at it that way, the way that it actually is, you can see a terrible business model.
Well.. looks like my phone's heading to kijiji.
I know I'll never buy another LG phone. See LG, that's what happens when you don't support your products. Considering Gingerbread was out when this phone was released, there's no reason why it didn't come with it in the first place. At least I can get $85 trade-in for this one to put towards my Galaxy S3...

According to this site, LG confirmed no ICS for the O2x. http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/1511525/no_android_ice_cream_sandwich_for_lg_optimus_2x.html
Hope whoever made that decision dies in a fire. I'm glad I got the GNex.

A Nexus 5 is not happening at mwc mainly because all nexus phones are released around new os releases. Key lime is not going to come out until June with Google's i/o conference. So if Google was to drop a new nexus phone it won't be until then. Unless we are going to be looking at an updated tablet instead of a phone which is very possible. So I doubt they are going to drop the Nexus 4. The Nexus devices have never been hot sellers when they've been released. The 4 had an unexpected response from consumers and that is probably why they didn't plan for higher production of these phones

This saddens me. My G2X is on it's last legs (Broken digitizer, headphone port malfunctioning). I was hoping to get the Nexus 4.. The last time it was available in Canada, it sold out while I was in school. I do hope that this article is false so that I can get a Nexus phone before my G2X dies.
False rumor. I don't see how anyone could believe that.

Probably because Google already said the Nexus 4 shortage was due to LG not producing enough product to keep up with demand? http://venturebeat.com/2012/12/17/google-nexus-4-shortage-apology/ So my guess is if LG can't manage to keep the Nexus 4 in demand they can say goodbye to being a Nexus authorized manufacturer in the future.

Why? Because they didn't expect such a large reception for there new phone? You do know that they are producing other phones as well right? They can't just halt production of there other phones for the Nexus 4. It takes a lot of coordination to get these phones to be even produced. It's not like they just press a button and it's made. You don't know the challenge on the back end of product manufacturing. They made a product that they were unprepared for since previous nexus devices never sold as well. So stop acting like they don't want to take your money

It isn't just about the Noxious 4. LG appears to be unprepared for anything related to the phones it produces, especially support. You obviously haven't read enough about the multitudinous variety of complaints about LG, especially in the O2X, G2X and other LG phone forums on XDA and elsewhere. Being an apologist for LG doesn't get any sympathy or respect.

LG is not producing enough because Google underestimated the demand for the phone. Google is the one to blame here. Read the nexus 4 forum here at XDA. LG's production capacity has growing.
Furthermore, why would the production be stopped? There's a huge demand for a product. The stupidest thing would be to stop production..
Did anyone read the original story where this came from? No where does it say that nexus 4 production is stopped or discontinued...

Nexus phones are available unlocked and cost much less than similar capability phones and are gauranteed Android OS updates for a minimum of 18 months and receive those updates before other phones. So, why would LG limit production? To not alienate cell service providers and to not undermine the sale of its higher priced phones.

So no source is a source then? Since you don't know anything you must know everything right? Also the only phone LG is having problems with in the cell phone community is the G2x/o2x. The reason most developers say it's a problem is the Nvidia chipset. The reason people complain about the Tegra 2 platform is its lack of open source drivers and its sloppy hardware. Pretty much every issue we have are the same issues Atrix users are having. Considering how well LG's other phones are working you really have to blame Nvidia for this problem. They made the terrible hardware here and did a crappy job coding. So please learn about this stuff before posting. I'm sure you annoy a lot of dev's with all your posts.

From LG at CES:
“Through our collaboration with Google, we launched the LG Nexus 4 smartphone. This is the first of many devices to come from our growing partnership with this very selective company.”
Please explain how that shows that LG is limiting/halting production?

If you read my post you will realize I was answering your question about why LG would limit or halt production of the Nexus/Noxious 4. An answer isn't a committment one way or another, it is just an answer to a question, yours. No one can definitively state what LG will or won't do. The G2x is an example of how untrustworthy LG is so why wouldn't it be with the Nexus/Noxious 4 too? The G2X was LG's "flags**t" phone not long ago, now it is in LG's trashbin. Whey wouldn't that happen to the Nexus/Noxious 4 or any other LG "flags**t" phone. Do you own a Nexus/Noxious 4? If not, why are you so emotionally committed to it? If you do own a Nexus/Noxious 4, post in the Nexus/Noxious 4 forum, not in the G2X one unless it's in the G2x Off Topic thread.

You obviously haven't been reading much of the posts on the the G2X forum, if you had, you would have realized that I and others have already stated, many times, what you just have and, BTW, I am one of the few left who is actually helping to get ICS/JB/CM10.1 running on the G2X. If I annoy a developer, their psyche is overly sensitive, like yours.

You're right with the criticism of what's wrong with the phone but not of me. So you're right and wrong.

Help the Cause Please

Hi guys this is my first time posting although I've been reading these forums for quite some time now
First of all i'd like to thank all the devs that work so hard for this phone. We all appreciate it immensely. :good:
Now down to business.
I've started a petition for LG and T-Mobile to release an update for the T-Mobile G2x (LG-P999).
I know this seems pretty useless at this point but hey its better to try then do nothing at all
I'd really appreciate it if everyone here could show there support and spread this around.
Petition: wwwchangeorg/petitions/lg-and-t-mobile-update-the-lg-g2x-lg-p999-to-android-4-x
Please also visit the lg forums and voice your opinion.
supportlgforumcom/lg/topics/g2x_owners_reply_if_you_want_android_4_0_ics_for_our_g2xs
Were bound to get noticed eventually. If it fails at least we kinda tried to put a thorn in LG's side xD
Thanks guys, please no negativity, im just trying to help us all out after all.
(BTW had to remove periods after www, change, support, and lgforum since im noob and can't post links )
There is a difference between negative and realistic. IMHO it would be a waste of time considering nexus 4 and EULA for the g2x.

I think doing nothing is more of a waste of time. It's really not that hard to just go and comment at least on the lg forums.
If you go to the lg forums you will find a this written by an LG employee:
RyanLG (Official Rep) 4 days ago
"Nope, those are just the crickets from another thread I recently posted. There is not much else to add to this 160+ comment thread that has been of popular topic for the past year. All I can say is the Thrill finally received a software update to fix many of it's previous hardware and software issues. Nobody saw that coming in a million years and what do you know, it happened! And ever since the complaints have subsided substantially about that particular device and the praise for it is at an all time high. I fully understand the complaints and frustration from all the G2X owners, you deserve some sort of resolution. The best thing you can do at this point is let your voice be heard whether it be here, but more so to LG customer support, the carrier or anywhere else. I will escalate this thread to the top with hopes of some sort of resolution. A similar process benefited the Thrill, so who knows."
What he said is what im doing, trying to get people to voice their opinion about the phone.
Also what he said about the LG Thrill gives me some hope.
If you don't wanna sign the petition i understand but at least go to the official lg forums and "complain".
It may be a long shot and will probably never happen but why not try at least, like RyanLG said, "who knows"?
Maybe just maybe if we get a lot of people to show their frustration and support for an upgrade a miracle will happen.
Won't know for sure unless we try is all i'm trying to say
Also, since development is practically at a stand still what else is there to do?
Rummage through xda forums everyday hoping for something new? x.x
Maybe we can reach out to other developers with lots of experience to look at the radio problem or build Hackfest roms? We basically only have Maz left and we can't expect him to do everything for us.

Maz is put through maintaining a gingerbread kernel on top of a new project that some users wanted, fixing bluetooth calling. There were some other projects maz had set put to do also. Such a nice guy but lets look at this situation realistically. This phone is a 'sunken ship'.

That'd be awesome if we could contact other devs to help with the ril issue. Problem I see there though is that I'm sure many of those devs are working hard on other projects. Plus, the ril issue is something that is really difficult to resolve (if even possible?) and Idk if more devs would even be of help at this point but nonetheless the more devs working on this phone the better.

I agree maz is super awesome! To me it seems like he's the only dev currently doing anything. Im using his latest beta kernel and my phone is not only snappy but also has awesome battery life so much props to him.
And I have accepted that this phone is a sunken ship but I will never lose hope
The phone is 2 years old at this point in the States. The end of life of the device through T-Mobile was January 2012. The hardware was pretty much a prototype version of the current Tegra 2 platform, and we'll never know the proper way to code for it. The RIL issues will never get fixed, nor did they have a shot to be fixed. If you're still on the device, you're either like me and too poor to afford an upgrade, or somehow stuck in a deal for the phone. If you used an EIP through T-Mo, you can pay it back early instead of monthly and get yourself a new one on the plan.
In the end it comes down to knowing exactly what phones are going to be popular for developers. Nexus devices and the Galaxy line are where you want to be if you want good support. That's where all the action is and will be for some time. The HTC One shows some promise, but with AT&T locking the bootloader, that's one less carrier brand that can be unlocked.
Pick wisely and don't bother with this stuff. Getting your hopes up will only cause you more anger when the truth comes around.
"The hardware was pretty much a prototype version of the current Tegra 2 platform, and we'll never know the proper way to code for it."
Interesting. Are you saying that the entire Optimus 2X line of phones was not based on the Tegra 2 platform used on other phones, but rather an incomplete prototype (probably because they were rushing it to market), or that this is only true for the G2X (aka P999), hence the differences between it and the other models?
