Metal/Glass piece over the camera lens fell off - T-Mobile LG G2x

The small 1/2" by 1/3" or so plate fell off my battery cover. It's the piece that has "8M" on it and covers the lens. Looks easy enough to repair but I've never tried it on a phone. Should I just glue it back on? What would I use for that? Thanks.

I just super-glued it back on. No problems since.

I'd super glue it... I leave mine off and actually cut all the plastic off within the cameras area to make it look better and now I have no glare or sun flares in my pictures... the plasticy glass lens just makes it dirty and images greyed out.

PM me I have extras. I'll give you one.

Mine actually fell off today, i plan on super-glueing it also..

Appreciate it man, but I had the part, just wasn't sure how to re-attach. The superglue seems like it's working, though I could have cleaned it up a little better lol. At least nothing got on the camera lens

Wow! Camera glass scratches super easy.

I was putting my battery cover back on today and the battery cover touched the camera lens pretty lightly and left a scratch! I don't think this cam will last with daily pocket carrying.
the back casing is made of metal you know....
that kinda sucks. does it show up in pictures?
You might just luck out.
That's the exact reason i went out and got the body glove case. I noticed the camara lens wash just about flush with phone and wanted some thing that was raised away from it. Mine hasent scratched and glad.

Mine looks slightly scratched under the light :S (I was using the phone for a few weeks before i got a silicon case). Fortunately I can't notice it in photos
Yeah I can't see it on pics. But it is no where near as scratch resistant as the screen. I would guess keys would do a number to t his screen.
Why don't they make a cover for the lens? I truly don't need a cover for the usb, never had it for previous phones and their usb ports still work. Gimmick.
The whole industrial design on the captivate is so whack. I hope ATT guys are reading this thread but that's probably not going to happen.
I wonder how many ATT guys wish they had the Tmobile version with the nice ridge on the back at the bottom that actually let you grip the phone properly when you press the softkeys.

Dust on ffc

Does anybody else have dust between the glass and their ffc? The image the camera produces doesn't appear to be affected but I can clearly see the dust and its only a matter of time before some is in the way of the lens.

Really nobody? What should I do?

Nope, there's no dust on my ffc. Maybe take it back for an exchange?
Nope. I use a TPU case. May have came that way from the factory. REPLACE!

Yes, after two months of use, mine has dust under the glass in front of the ffc. Haven't find a way to clean it.
Cleaned mine, don't think it's a case issue as the dust is probably coming in through the earpiece.
Ifixit has a good teardown: six screws in back, then 3 screws to remove the sim module. Don't bend the ffc back, that ribbon cable is weak and breaks easily. Clean with a screwdriver with the tip covered with a thick microfiber cloth.
Problem is that I've been repeating this once every two months. Today I took some yellow tack (for sticking posters to walls, just a tiny strip) and sealed the ffc. You can see the strip from the front, but hopefully I wont have to attempt the cleaning again! And I can't see any negative results in the camera app.
You may have more success with something like superglue, but I wanted something a little less permanent.
EDIT: I'm from Prairie Village if you want me to show you in person sometime
yes i am reviving this. how the hell do i get the dust out lol. ive even tried spraying a keyboard dust can into the damn earpiece.

Creaky battery door FIX!

Ok so I did some experimenting these past hours and I've found a terrific solution to the Vibrant/SGS4G creaking issue that many people have encountered!
Heres what you need:
*Papertowel
*Scissors
LOL not much of a list but trust me!
Step 1: Take your battery door off of your phone
Step 2:Cut a rectangular piece of papertowel enough to fit over the battery, sim and sdcard
Step 3: Place the rectangle cut over the back of the phone
Step 4: Now put on the battery door directly over the papertowel peice
IE: You should notice that the battery door now fits tighter and has no space to make contact with the plastic inside, the papertowel acts as a buffer between the plastics - eliminating the creaking noises.
[EDIT] - Don't cut too big of a piece and if its not snapping on as normal i'd suggest not forcing it and reducing the size of your cutout.
Kool ill have to try this if the creaking gets to bad. Thanks bro

Will do when I try, creaking isn't that bad yet but it will most definetly get worse over time but atleast we can fix that now.

Haven't heard any creaking yet. I've owned a Vibrant and now this. Wouldn't the paper towel cause more heat? I dunno. I'm thinking it's like leaving your laptop on top of your bed effect. But then again it is thin. So I dunno. lol.
The battery door definitely fits a bit loose to the back of the device and makes loose contact with the bezel. What I did was just stick two pieces of scotch tape to the back of the cover side by side which seemed to work fairly well.
Not having to do with the battery door, but if your bezel creaks, some units have loose bezels out of the box. You could try to tighten the screws on the bezel on the back of the bezel (with the cover removed). Of course, I am not responsible if you break it.
Mine creaks around the volume rocker

My bezel definitely creaks . So all I gotta do is tighten the screws behind the battery cover right?

It helped a little on my unit. I don't think it is the bezel itself as it is the battery door contacting the bezel in a manner that causes the creaking. Does it creak if you take off the cover?
This worked great lol

Sorry to hear that. If it creaks with the cover on, then you should try the trick from the OP. My bezel was loose and creaking a little with the cover off. Sucks to be OCD...
Thanks for trying my method guys hahahahaah OCD FTW! Everybody thinks i'm a freak because i get so off kilter with such little things but, glad to see i'm not the only one who had supersonic hearing!
is this the only way to fix it? I am getting pissed of that my SGS is creaking..****ing **** build quality
I don't think its a good idea to do this. The paper prevent heat from dispersing when your phone heats up. If too much heat is generating while you play game or use your phone it might cause the battery to explode.

Ok i thought so also but there is no other solution to stop the darn creaking sound?!
Buy a case. Not being a smart ass. I bought a body glove case and have no creaky door issues. Plus it gives the phone a little more mass, makes it feel less cheap and not as slippery.

already have a tyre case, do u recommend any other case?
Lol, do you guys Chuck Norris grip your phones? I only get that sound when I squeeze pretty hard on my phone.
Also, putting a piece of paper there seems dangerous. My battery gets pretty hot sometimes when I play with it for too long (games, YouTube, etc.). I'm sure that heat would make the paper catch fire. Then again, I'm no fire expert. XD
It might just be the case I have, but I've never heard the phone make any creaking sounds. This is a simple fix though if you have the problem haha.

[Q] Is the Camera lens made out of gorilla glass too?

Hey guys I was wondering if the camera on the phone is made out of gorilla glass as well? Cause im thinking of switching to a fourth case if the asnwer is that it is not. Has anyone experienced any scratches on the lens so far?
No... Why would it be?
to protect the lens inside, and also so it wont be scratched. DUUUH lol. But I have no clue if it really is.
its not. the only phone that i know of that does have it is a nokia because of its 12 megapixel shooter.
Nope, sadly it is not even glass, it is plastic!
I had mine in my pocket for ONE day and started seeing little scratches.
I was going to call SAMSUNG and ask what it was made of but if you take something (a coin?) and GENTLY tap on it you can tell that it is plastic.
I imagine one could purchase a tiny little pane of glass somewhere and mod this... if mine gets many more scratches I might give it a try!
Thanks for letting me know! Just gotta remember not to put my keys in the pocket with my phone haha. THis camera is pretty good to have scratches on it.
Yep its daaam goood!
Ive had my camera "protected" for a few weeks giving it a nice cleaning and then applying a little fragment of that plastic sheets that screen protectors are made from(basicly i just bought a random transparent screen protector and cut off a piece to match the camera).
Since i always have the phone and a bunch of keys and coins on the same pocket i decided to give it a try xD seems to work not a single scratch on the plastic.
Even tho... Maybe the camera plastic alone was doing a good job protecting the camera i like to think.it has double protection... Haha

Does it decrease picture quality? I might just try this!
Not likely - Gorilla Glass probably has optical qualities that make it inferior for a photographic lens.
Scratch-resistant lens coatings do exist (such as Pentax Super Protect coatings) but it would be unlikely to see these in a phone camera.

No it doesnt change the quality if the cleaning before putting the cover sheet was wel done...
yet it sometimes comes.off while getting the phone in and out of the pocket.. Im wondering if its actually useful xD yet i wanted to give it a try hahah

Yup.... Luckily for me there is a lot of glass over the lens and the scratch is just below it so it doesn't affect my taking of pictures...

Dust Under Screen

So I finally broke down and ordered a white digitizer after scratching the original one and banging up the bezel pretty good. I did all the work in my kitchen and used surgical gloves to keep the digitizer and LCD as clean as possible but no matter how hard I try I cant get the thing together without a couple specs of dust between the LCD and digitizer.
So to those who have replaced there digitizer on this phone or anyother.. is it impossible to reassemble the phone without ANY dust short of doing it in a clean room or am I just doing it wrong?
When I took my iPhones apart I would always wear gloves and always have a can of compressed air next to me. That and a microfiber cloth that you use to clean glasses with.
Just be very careful.
Yeeeah.. Had a cloth and wore gloves but didnt think about the air. I guess Ill take it apart again and give it a couple bursts to see if that helps. Thanks.
Id say use an ionizing air gun, but then again, at 450$ and up...not really cost effective lol.
Tips that may or may not work.
Clean the glass and apply the screen in a room with more humidity to reduce the amount of dust in the air. The more still the air, the better.
After cleaning, use a fabric softener sheet that has already been used in your laundry, and rub it all over the parts of the electronics that you don’t want dust attracted to. Instead of attracting dust, the electronics will repel dust!
now there's a creative approach. guess I'm doing laundry tomorrow lol
Post a pic. Been pondering on the white diggitizer but not sure if it looks better than black
Sent from my LG-P999 on CM9 using XDA Premium
ill post one when I get home. never buying another black phone again
btw, took the phone back apart and used some compressed air before fitting the lcd back into the digitizer. I was able to get it together with only few specs of dust that are only visible when the screen is off and I. the sun. this I can live with but I'm going to give it one more try to get it 100% dust free. I like the way the lcd fits into digitizer because dust cant creep in once they're fitted together.
Try doing this outside, maybe in your house balcony or something. A house has like 1000 times more dust particles than outdoors.
I think you'll have better luck doing this outdoor.
Spray room freshener or run warm water in bathroom and steam should knock of particle apply within.

I'll swing by the hardware store and pick some up tomorrow appreciate all the input. Broke my heart a little bit to see dust starting to creep in after i finally managed to get the phone back together without a single speck.
Hopefully I'll only have to disassemble one more time. Least a soldering iron wont be involved like during my Vibrant days
