[Q] HTC Sensation - Overheating - HTC Sensation

Hi All,
I have Standard HTC Sensation rooted running DarkForest (latest):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423684
I then flashed this over it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256668
Whenever I am gaming etc with the device though it gets very hot.
Even before I put the Bricked Kernel over it still got extremely hot when playing games (eg GLWG).
Just wondering if this is something everyone experiences or if it is just my device or if it happens to some phones but not others?
Thanks

Its a very common problem. I think its cause of the running gpu. Happens to me too. Nothing to be distressed about.

Cool, glad to hear it.
Was worrying that maybe the OC'ing hadn't been done properly so wasn't toning down the CPU when it was running too fast and hot.
Was also thinking maybe I had a duff phone and needed to try swap it for a different one

DO NOT WORRY
You could maybe use an app to slower down your speed on your phone if that doesn't work. THIS ONLY WORKS ON ROOTED PHONES
I suggest using the (anTuTu CPU master) on the Google play store.

very hot !

hi, i'm running android revolution HD overclocked with faux kernel at 1510 and i noticed that my phone is getting warm each time i use it ( gps, internet, games). when i play games i goes to 48° celsius. I am a bit worry about it. I'm thinking about overheat maybe ? is that normal ? do u have the same temperature ?
(temperature at home 28°c)
Try underclocking it to like 1.3 GHz, whenever I do that my device cools down and I don't notice a drop in performance....

Thanks for your answer, that's what i tried yesterday night, temperature goes to 44° when i play Xplane 9 or 3d games .... it's a bit less than 48° but it's still a bit hot .... ?!
Overheat is at 50° isn't it ??
To my knowledge the faux kernel has heat problems. I know I can't use it or my phone gets too hot. Have you tried using a different kernel? Unity or Stock even?

I for one have not had heat issues with the Faux v0.1.0 kernel. Granted, I have not played many intense 3D games, but I have played N64oid with Super Mario 64 for roughly 15-20 minutes straight and haven't noticed any difference in phone temperature. If anything, this kernel, for me, performs better than the stock kernel in terms of temperature.
Could I be the lucky one? lol
hi everyone,
i have tested 2 differents ROM : android revolution from Mike and InsertCoin from baadnews and i just tried with stock kernel ... and guess what ? and my phone is still hot when i'm using it ... about 43°.
any idea ?

i'm afraid it could overheat and brake the phone ....
than don't over clock.
over clocking is going to raise operating temperatures.
What is your goal with overclocking? Or you just hopping on the band wagon?

you are right i agree with you but
so why we are having a strong phone with all these specifications ??
even when i was on stock also had the sme issue
i think Q&A for HTC is really bad for this phone.
according to the number of problems this phone have(screen, heat, Dust under screen).
these problems happend for allot of people, just google it and you will see big result and i dont see any reaction from HTC!!!

[Q] my phone is getting super hot arhd 3.1.0

hi!
since installing android revolution HD 3.1.0 after 10 min of playing games (like angry birds) ,
my phone gets super hot , like really hot . it wasnt hot like this before.
after a few mins of super hot phone , the phone close itself.
someone know a way i can tweak some settings and make the phone not get hot so much?
thank you
try 3.1.1 instead, if its still hot
then down clock it back to 1.2
i thought on upgradign to 3.1.1 because then i dont need to wipe
but now all my widgets on the home screens stopped working.
therefore i think i will install 3.6.0
you think it will solve the hot problem?
also how do i clock down ?
thank s

If you go to the thread where you got the rom youll find a zip file which you can install via recovery which puts it back down to 1.2ghz, i think its at the same place in the thread where you download the rom. im gonna try it as my phone gets quite hot too.
thats clocks down should help us with the heat?
i upgraded to 3.6.0
will see whats going on
well my phone keeps getting hot.
before i downclock , is there another option?
i ve got the same problem and i am running mike1968 3.6.0xe and my battery is also getting very hot, sometimes around 41 celcius. i dont play games, dont look movies, dont listen music, just use some apps and mostly facebook. When surfing on the internet on the phone it is getting very hot. Nobody really has an answer for it, at least not at the development section of mike1968 3.6.0 xe. I ordered a new battery the one from de Evo 3d, hopefully it should help.
i have 3 different batteries trust me it wont help you
the prob is in the phone plus the rom , not the battery
i hope someone here can help us

I have a similar issue but not to that extreme...my Sensation is generally between 31C & 34C in use (ARHD v3.6.0xe, ARHD v3.6.1xe).
I am trying the brickedkernel and have tried clocking down to 1.2 (back on 1.5).
I don't remember the phone getting to 30 deg using 3.5.1, but the days are warmer here now.

Definitely keep your phone out of the heat then. I would recommend flashing the latest (3.6.1 as of today). I'm pretty sure there were improvements made to the phone to prevent it from getting too hot, at least it was mentioned in the changelog. Have you tried Faux's kernel at all?
im on 3.6.0 but with faux kernel 0.1.9
i also applied the thermal patch.
still hot,
i know i can upgrade to 3.6.1 i just dont think it will solve the problem
Dunno guys, I had the same issue with every ROM I tried. I finally decided to buy an anker battery and it actually seemed to help. The phone still gets warm, but it definitely runs a little cooler.

If it's general normal use getting the phone hot (web+games), then see good recommendations already posted above.
If you have a runaway app, then use Watchdog and System Tuner to find the app that is causing the problem.
If you have a kernel that supports OC, then get System Tuner and set Under-Freq + Under-volt to give less heat, more battery life. Heat = C* Volt^2 * Freq

[Q] Overheating...

I experienced this for the first time on ARHD 3.6.2. It typically generates quite a bit of heat when I'm either watching a movie or playing games in-between classes. I thought it might be the ROM so I switched over to InsertCoin 3.3.1 and same problem. I'm running stock kernel with 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2. Anybody experiencing the same thing or have any ideas how to prevent this?
Thanks
Mine has always heated up while performing either of those tasks on any rom. You might want to look into a custom kernel that you can undervolt a little bit and that might help.
Is your phone new? If so then it could be the problem. Well not problem, but after a while it should go away.

Relatively, I mean the sensation has only been out a few months. I think I bought mine a couple weeks after it was released in June.
Maybe since the roms are overclocked, your cpu can't handle it? just a suggestion
It's a possibility. Just seems odd, hundred of thousands of people have downloaded these two roms. I haven't overclocked it past the 1.5GHz. The Dr. Dre edition of the Sensation has the same processor and it's overclocked as well. When I was running earlier versions of ARHD I never noticed it.
Maybe you just got a lemon lol, try to exchange it!
Mine overheats when gaming on any custom ROM .. but it didn't in stock ROM?

[Q] bricked kernel on sense-o-maniac rom

hi all, im a super noob. this sensation was the first ever phone i rooted. and i currently just flashed a bricked kernel on here being that the original sense-o-maniac rom i had flashed wasnt overclocked. this new kernel allowed me to overclock cpu to over 1.8ghz.
i also have a tmobile sensation (currently using unlocked bell sensation) that i have laying around waiting for a buyer. & after i flashed the new kernel, i decided to do a speed test on both to compare the upgrade on my phone. i had both running on the same wifi & went to the same youtube video. & to my surprise, both phones ran at the exact same speed.
i was wondering why both phones was running at the same speed?? if i have an overclocked kernel on my phone, shouldnt my phone be running faster??
anyone out there can shed some light on this matter would be great. Im a noob so, any answer would be greatly appreciated. thanks for reading my post & have a great day!!

well simply put would be no...
You would have to install a cpu controller like oc daemon or set cpu to overclock your device in order to reach those speeds.
although even when you set it to max 1.8, or how ever much your device can handle (most 1.78, anything above that it crashes). it only means that your device will reach that speed max if needed, so is to not fry the brain. that doesnt mean at all that your device will be performing at that speed constantly. that would eat battery and probably a chip or two.
there is also the topic of govenors and how they effect your device performance.
and its all about the combination of rom + kernel that will ultimately show the improvements. some kernels will automatically slow a phone down to unusable speeds.
lets just say you were lucky to experience a compatible kernel with no side effects.

Are you happy with your sensation?

So guys, are you hapy with your HTC Sensation? After seeing the performance, lag and battery issues, and also phone heat ups, are you happy with the phone?
Please feel free to comment!
Thanks
No. Look at the problems it got. The power button issue, which HTC KNOWS, but simply haven't fixed yet. And then there is the screen "failure", dust can come under it, and spoil the joy of having the phone. And there is also the home screen issue, when it sometimes doesn't work. Not only that, but the lack of support been given is just incredible. I have reported the issue in online chat with an HTC employee. And she simply said that I could reset the phone, delete all third-party apps. I mean WTF? If you know the problem, at least inform the workers, so they know such things. But apparently, HTC is shooting devices out! HTC sensation, then it exploded! XE,XL Rhyme, explorer, rezound. And the worst part is! They haven't fixed the audio issue, which comes when you record a video. Even in the new rezound. I am gonna trade it for a S2, if I can. Properly not. But I will give it a try.

this phone can match all the new phones right now
throw it away then if you don't know how to use it.
Thank me if I helped you!
I havent had any problems with my Sensation, yea battery isn't the best but name an android phone that has good battery life?
The only thing that upset me was the squeky battery door besides that what a classic phone.....I jumped to the amaze for build quality purposes and I have zero regrets. Go HTC
My phone does great. No dust and certainly no issue. Battery life is great after I got 1.5 bricked kernel.

Extremely happy with the very cool s4g and no issues!!
I have the XE and it's a nice phone, but ...
Camera quality (video and stills) is poor on my phone
Auto-brightnes sometimes stops working
I loose phone signal sometimes here at home
Wifi death grip
I 'currently' don't have any dust issues and I'm pleased about that, although I keep checking.
Im very happy with my sensation, havent had any problems like dust or something else...
my battery life is 2 days with moderate use. But my phone signal isnt so brilliant

WOW, what are you running ? (ROM, Kernel, UC/UC/OC, ....)
I am extremely happy with it now thanx to the devs on this forum to make my life easier lol. Only thing that sucks is the battery, but i just purchased anker 1900 battery so it gave my phone extra life and using rom ARHD with Bricked Kernel 1.5r beta 2. Now for the terrible part the fron facing camera that sucks mad ass, but i dont use it anyways cause i have an itouch4g
I'm using Sensation around 3 months, I switched from the old Nokia 3510i and I don't have any single problem with it. Only issue was poor battery life.
But now Bricked 1.5 kernel with latest MIUI rom extended my battery lifetime significantly.

Energy ROM sense 3.5 with stock kernel, so no UC/OC... just installed the ROM and enjoyed a wonderful battery life xD
HTC Sensation + HyperSensation CM7 + faux kernel = BLISS
I tried Sense and MIUI roms but CM7 works the best for me
All in all, Very Happy with the Phone!!!

If you are not happy can I suggest you stick Coredroid 2.6 and Faux Kernel b7
mine Sensation is the dogs danglies
well ... it depends on what did you bought it for i guess. Iam well satisfied as for functionality but there are few but's.
1. The image and video quality taken with the camera is very poor (my HD Mini did better)
2. Battery life is horrible on 4G networks
3. Sense UI keeps restarting often, to prevent it you have to manually clear Sense cache
4. Network and wifi signal keeps goin up and down like on a rolercoaster
5. The HTC audio enhancement (HTC SRS) in HD movies is awful
thats the only negative things i found, all in all, its not that bad, could be worse.
I use good phones (MDA compact III-> Nokia E90-> Xperia X1-> Sensation), but this one... dream! Battery-nightmare.
Cheers
My sensation is running great.
I haven't had a single problem. Haven't had any dust, or power button issues etc.
I'm running Scott and Jon's latest MIUI with show-P's latest AOSP kernel. Running like a dream. Excellent battery life. I also got an anker battery.
I was a bit hesitant before I got this phone TBH, because of the issues I heard people talking about. But I haven't experienced any of them.
I would definitely recommend this phone to my friends.
