hi!
since installing android revolution HD 3.1.0 after 10 min of playing games (like angry birds) ,
my phone gets super hot , like really hot . it wasnt hot like this before.
after a few mins of super hot phone , the phone close itself.
someone know a way i can tweak some settings and make the phone not get hot so much?
thank you
try 3.1.1 instead, if its still hot
then down clock it back to 1.2
i thought on upgradign to 3.1.1 because then i dont need to wipe
but now all my widgets on the home screens stopped working.
therefore i think i will install 3.6.0
you think it will solve the hot problem?
also how do i clock down ?
thank s

If you go to the thread where you got the rom youll find a zip file which you can install via recovery which puts it back down to 1.2ghz, i think its at the same place in the thread where you download the rom. im gonna try it as my phone gets quite hot too.
thats clocks down should help us with the heat?
i upgraded to 3.6.0
will see whats going on
well my phone keeps getting hot.
before i downclock , is there another option?
i ve got the same problem and i am running mike1968 3.6.0xe and my battery is also getting very hot, sometimes around 41 celcius. i dont play games, dont look movies, dont listen music, just use some apps and mostly facebook. When surfing on the internet on the phone it is getting very hot. Nobody really has an answer for it, at least not at the development section of mike1968 3.6.0 xe. I ordered a new battery the one from de Evo 3d, hopefully it should help.
i have 3 different batteries trust me it wont help you
the prob is in the phone plus the rom , not the battery
i hope someone here can help us

I have a similar issue but not to that extreme...my Sensation is generally between 31C & 34C in use (ARHD v3.6.0xe, ARHD v3.6.1xe).
I am trying the brickedkernel and have tried clocking down to 1.2 (back on 1.5).
I don't remember the phone getting to 30 deg using 3.5.1, but the days are warmer here now.

Definitely keep your phone out of the heat then. I would recommend flashing the latest (3.6.1 as of today). I'm pretty sure there were improvements made to the phone to prevent it from getting too hot, at least it was mentioned in the changelog. Have you tried Faux's kernel at all?
im on 3.6.0 but with faux kernel 0.1.9
i also applied the thermal patch.
still hot,
i know i can upgrade to 3.6.1 i just dont think it will solve the problem
Dunno guys, I had the same issue with every ROM I tried. I finally decided to buy an anker battery and it actually seemed to help. The phone still gets warm, but it definitely runs a little cooler.

If it's general normal use getting the phone hot (web+games), then see good recommendations already posted above.
If you have a runaway app, then use Watchdog and System Tuner to find the app that is causing the problem.
If you have a kernel that supports OC, then get System Tuner and set Under-Freq + Under-volt to give less heat, more battery life. Heat = C* Volt^2 * Freq

hi, i'm running android revolution HD overclocked with faux kernel at 1510 and i noticed that my phone is getting warm each time i use it ( gps, internet, games). when i play games i goes to 48° celsius. I am a bit worry about it. I'm thinking about overheat maybe ? is that normal ? do u have the same temperature ?
(temperature at home 28°c)
Try underclocking it to like 1.3 GHz, whenever I do that my device cools down and I don't notice a drop in performance....

Thanks for your answer, that's what i tried yesterday night, temperature goes to 44° when i play Xplane 9 or 3d games .... it's a bit less than 48° but it's still a bit hot .... ?!
Overheat is at 50° isn't it ??
To my knowledge the faux kernel has heat problems. I know I can't use it or my phone gets too hot. Have you tried using a different kernel? Unity or Stock even?

I for one have not had heat issues with the Faux v0.1.0 kernel. Granted, I have not played many intense 3D games, but I have played N64oid with Super Mario 64 for roughly 15-20 minutes straight and haven't noticed any difference in phone temperature. If anything, this kernel, for me, performs better than the stock kernel in terms of temperature.
Could I be the lucky one? lol
hi everyone,
i have tested 2 differents ROM : android revolution from Mike and InsertCoin from baadnews and i just tried with stock kernel ... and guess what ? and my phone is still hot when i'm using it ... about 43°.
any idea ?

than don't over clock.
over clocking is going to raise operating temperatures.
What is your goal with overclocking? Or you just hopping on the band wagon?

according to the number of problems this phone have(screen, heat, Dust under screen).
these problems happend for allot of people, just google it and you will see big result and i dont see any reaction from HTC!!!

Hey guys,
The topic of this thread has change slightly since I started it. Please disregard the first few posts after this one.
The problem is that when I install a new ROM, it works perfectly for an hour or perhaps even the day, and then I start getting random shutdowns. These seem to start out of the blue and I cant work it out.
When installing a new ROM, I always check the MD5 and perform a superwipe before starting to use the ROM. Ill put back a few apps using titanium backup pro.
I don't use any hacked apps or task killers.
I have searched but cant find anything useful.
Currently using Insertcoin Sense 4 RC5. Firmware 3.32.
I have tried three different kernals (Bricked, Sebastian and RCMix), all with the same problem.
Update: tjamaican has kindly sent me a fix he found of the forums, its for a battery fix that worked for me on insertcoin's ICS Sense 4 RC4.1 ROM. However I have just moved to RC5 and the problem is back even with the fix.

I am going to try and set a lower CPU level, already down to 1.2 Ghz with max screen off at ~500Mhz. Seems stable for now, been running 24hrs - no restarts.
This is interesting because I had a GB Rom running at 1.5Ghz with no problems, maybe its something to do with ICS.
Any ideas?
[SOLVED]
Sent the phone off to htc and they have replaced the motherboard. Its all fine and dandy now!
They dont know why it happened or how to avoid it in the future...useful, but if you're still in warranty then send it off, it took exactly a week to get back to me (Monday to Monday). Good luck!

Well no need for factory reset. Superwipe? Yes.
What roms cause this?
What firmware is ur senny on? Ex: 1.17? 3.24?
Phone have physical damage?
Has it been wet?

Thanks for your reply.
No, the phone is basically new, but as I said this has happened before.
Running this ROM on 3.24:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468683
But this does happen on other ROMS too, they work perfectly for a while and then slowly begin to develop problems. At this stage I usually install the latest version of the ROM but I'm actually happy with the ROM at the moment and dont want to have to keep changing it!
I've been running Darkforest ROM since early stages and have had no problems so far. Maybe try that one. It's on v 5.1.5 now and it's very fast and very stable, moreso than many other ROMs i've tried.
Could be a defective device possibly? Are u using the kernel that comes with the rom?

I would download 1-click cleaner and clean the cache every week. Also you might want to boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache every two weeks.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the device, I'll try wiping the cache's and see if that makes a difference. Thank you very much for all your answers so far.

Could possibly be an app try removing all your apps and install 1 by 1 give it a couple of weeks see if it happens again, I got a problem from juice defender pro (payed for) worked alright for few days then my launcher started force closing all the time took me ages to figure it out but got there by removing all my apps and installing them 1 by 1 long and time staking but worth a try
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Okay well ive tried clearing the cache and davlik cache with no luck, less restarts but they are still there. I am resistant to start removing apps as I use them on a daily basis. Before I try this, does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Max

I think it may be a kernel issue, I'm going to try a few...
Tried three different kernals now, all with the same problem which would indicate its not a kernal problem? Something else perhaps? (Tried bricked, sebastian and RCMix)
its not a problem, its with network connection
I've had this problem since ages and couldn't fix it yet. First thing, download LTE switch and change the value from wcdma preferred to gsm auto. see if it avoids the restarts. Another thing you can try is, change the sim card (I havent tried it yet). Or, if possible, change the back cover. But I'm pretty pretty sure its the problem with the network.
Please reply.

Well I have been at the 1.2GHz level for almost 24 hours now without too much trouble. Im not sure if it was lowering the CPU clock for screen on, or raising the CPU clock for screen off. Either way I can notice the device is slightly slower. I dont see why ICS doesnt like overclocking on this phone, GB was fine with it?!

Update:
Just had a random shutdown, could have been anywhere in the last 20 mins. I really don't know what else to try!
Having EXACT ones you are having. Buy another battery if that doesn't work its a hardware problem. I still need to buy my battery but will post and let you know if it worked.

I'm also starting to think its caused by not letting the battery fully die and recharging it a lot but that's just my guess?
I switched back to gingerbread yesterday and so far I've had no problems which would indicate its not a hardware issue...? Usually by now I've had a few shut downs..

Hi - my HTC Sensation phone keeps shutting down on it's own randomly.
By shut down I mean screen goes blank, it powers down, only way to start again is to take out the battery and reinsert.
I am using stock battery that came with the phone.
It's happened 6-7 times in like 2 weeks. I can't determine what is causing it, I did notice it was twice when i used the camera and once skype.
The temperate in battery monitor widget appear normal, no like sudden jump that would indicate the shut down.
It is running 2.3.4 with Android revolution Rom.
Any help/assistance would be appreciated.
Lastly, for HTC repairs, what do they require, store receipt, etc.?

maybe this is a rom issue or maybe the kernel you are using...try another rom and see if it happens again...this is not hardware problem...
Try a new kernel first before reflashing rom. Also look at voltage levels, of volts are set too low this can happen.

Silly question, have you tried the rom without flashing kenels? Meaning use the one bundled in the rom.
To be honest im not sure how to do that, i just followed the thread and installed the rom as mentioned in this thread

Isn't ARHD a sense based rom? I use faux's kernel and he states that it is for AOSP/CM roms only. Could that be the issue?
Edit: My bad, forgot that faux develops the kernel for arhd as well. I had a similar issue when I tried to upgrade my radio to the newest from the same one you are using. Flashing back stopped the black screens.

I think I read in that thread that if people are having trouble with the overclock, to lower to 1ghz. But report back if your way works or not. GL
I have been having some random shut downs as well lately. I've been running the last insertcoin GB rom. It started as an occasional shut down but recently became very frequent. I decided to superwipe and flash the lastest android revolution gb rom and during the initial boot up it shut down and then 2 more times before I was able to finish logging in to my gmail account to complete the phone's setup. It's now started up and hasn't shut down in the last 15 minutes or so but I'm wondering what is causing it. I had stock kernel with insertcoin's rom and I selected the 1.5 kernel during the install of ARHD. I also flashed the recommended radio for the ARHD rom before installing it.
I would like to find a solution for this too because I have been dealing with this for a long time. I have tried many ROMS both ICS and GB and many different kernels and still have problems. The problem seems to go away with aosp ROMS for me though:/
EDIT: And the most of the time it happens if not all the time the batteryis below at least 50% and starts to really get crazy after the 20% and 10%
I am freaking so frustrated with this phone.
I went back to normal 1.2ghz, but now a few days later battery is well at 50%, it still shuts down.
#@$#@[email protected]#
Anyone have a solution here? Is there a damn log or trace that can be run to identify why it shuts down on itself.

Edit: switching from kernel to the other might make it worse, since they have different configurations and settings.... Make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache before and after flashing kernel.... Cool, glad to hear it.
Was worrying that maybe the OC'ing hadn't been done properly so wasn't toning down the CPU when it was running too fast and hot.
Was also thinking maybe I had a duff phone and needed to try swap it for a different one
DO NOT WORRY
You could maybe use an app to slower down your speed on your phone if that doesn't work. THIS ONLY WORKS ON ROOTED PHONES
I suggest using the (anTuTu CPU master) on the Google play store.
