What is a custom radio? - General Questions and Answers

hey guys i found references to custom radios around saying that the radio in a device is what connects to the tower. i knew that but what exactly does a custom radio do? better service? better data? whats up with them like i have a galaxy nexus and i see fd02 and fd12 radios but i have no idea what each radio will do to my phone by installing it?

Updating radio firmware only affects mobile data and mobile network signal. There is no 'best' radio firmware. It depends on your phone and the area you are in. Try a couple of the latest and see if you get an improvement in signal. Hope that helps

I'm not sure bro I'm only experienced with galaxy s2. I'm sure the guys in the nexus forums can help you out. Or install from manager from app market it has a selection for you to choose from, there are also user comments on how good the radio is so you can get an idea. Usually the latest editions are the best

[Q] Updating kernel baseband on Samsung Galaxy S2 with CM 7.1

Hello everyone,
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy SII with Stable Cyanogenmod 7.1 with KH3 baseband version.
What's the best baseband to update? With CM installation my modem wouldn't update and I can't find any guide that teaches how to properly update a baseband.
I'm coming from Villain Rom and there where no problems with HSDPA. With CM 7.1, data connection is anything but fast.
My carrier is Vodafone Spain.
Baseband with CM 7

works only with lg optimus 2x.. not galaxy s2
Try Rom Manager, there are a few modems available under codeworkz, I think it does the modem installation for you.
Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask this but i tried cm9 but it didnt like my apps so i went back to gb 2.3.4 on galaxy s2, never gives me trouble but cm9 left its baseband behind, my phone seems to be running better but is it safe can anyone tell me plz
Never mind sorted it by flashing 2.3.5, i find earlyer GBs have better batterylife and will run any app u put in it

[Q] Any ROM available Samsung Galaxy S II SGH 727R

Here's the thing. As usual it seems to be an organization issue here between major brands and models so after looking around for hours I'm still not able to figure out what is going on here.
I bought a Samsung galaxy S II LTE SGHI727R from Rogers Canada.
Is there a European ROM available for it? i want to debrand it and remove bloatware I guess.
Will the Samsung Skyrock ROM work on it ok?
Some good info on this matter would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I think the easyest thing to do is go on the samsware website choose a reagion u want it from and flash it. I had a problem upgradeing my phone with loads of crappy bloatware. So I just flashed stock europe firmware to it. Just dont choose a network provider firmware but it does explain it easly enough
Where exactly can I find this on samsung's websites? Been looking, but can't find it
This is most probs best site for the original firmware its got a list of all sgs2, sgs1 etc

[Q] Best radio version for using oversea ?

Hi,
I am using AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket in Viet Nam, not in USA, because i like the way this Skyrocket phone design so i ask some of my friend bought one for me from US. But i got som problem with this phone when using in my 3G network carrier Mobifone , 3G data connection sometime lost and sometime good . So anyone have exprience with this kind of thing ? What radio version i should use between :
Original Shipped AT&T Skyrocket Radio I727ATTKJ2 and RIL
Original Shipped Rogers I727RUXKJ7 Radio and RIL
AT&T 2.3.6 OTA Update Radio I727ATTKK1 and RIL
T-Mobile T989UVKL1
in this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384865
Best regards,
I've seen about oversea(europe) thread.
Please refer it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377114
But I've one question.
Does your Skyrocket gps fix time is fast in your vietnam country?
Normally gps lock time is about 5~10 sec.
because, I will purchase skyrocket, but some of phones are using agps surver using
their own country.(for example, T-mobile G2x using T-mobile a-gps server,
So it will cause gps fix laggy)

thanks you
GPS fix super fast here. If the weather good it make take just a few second. I am trying flash T989 rom to see if anything better.
you're welcome.
I think overseas users make a thread.
Isn't it? hehe
I am very very wodner that compatibility to
AT&T ROM(727) , Rogers ROM(727R), T-mobile ROM(989) all models?
For example, I will use to Odin.
* If I have a i727 ATT Device,
1) flash to i727R ? not bricked?
2) flash to i989 ? not bricked?
If I get a i727 ATT device, I will flash i727 Rogers ROM.
Because AT&T have many pre-load apks. And too many customizing.

Is there a 4.0 Stock International ROM or Firmware

My boss gave me his galaxy s2 skyrocket to flash
i was originally running JB 4.1 on a custom rom, but i tried like 2 roms and they were to buggy for him and not stable
so since i couldnt find a really stable JB 4.1
hes asked to see if i can find the 4.0 Firmware of this phone but for the INTERNATIONAL version
I wasn't even aware the Skyrocket had a international version
What do you guys think
?
Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE comes in:
ATT: SGH-i727
T-Mobile: SGH-T898
Rogers: SGH-i727R
International: GT-I9210/T
ATT & Rogers are easily interchangable, the Hercules (SGH-T898) may need a little tweaking to get it working right but not too sure on the international version, I've heard people flashing the international version with CM9 for the SR but haven't heard of anyone flashing the International version of ICS to the SR.
The hardware is identical with only difference being the CPU Model# which is the same CPU they used on the T-Mobile version (APQ8060) vs (MSM8260).
Really its best to flash only the ROMs that are made for your phone but if the hardware is similar you can probably do it but I don't see why you want to.
If he wants he can use AT&T stock, CM9 or a custom ROM.
Does he want something from the international version of ICS?
Remember using a different ROM for a different phone you will need to have a different Modem and may have a chance to brick so only do at your own risk.

He wants international so he can get be able to Text in Chinese etc etc
When I upgraded him to 4.1 the Chinese stuff was all good to goo
Had issues getting it to work on 4.0, the text would come out in Chinese, but the receiver would get a bunch of symbols, like i said upgrading to 4.1 fixed this, i think 4.1 and more languages or something
Thats why he wants international, he travels a lot as well so its convenient.

I've flashed several phones with several roms, I have my own Galaxy S3 running perfect on a AOKP rom
When i flashed my bosses phone I did the usual, wipe data/ dalvik / factory reset / flash rom
First ROM i used was Superlite, phone would go black and would require force shut off, this would happen randomly during idle or something or overnight
So i switched to SKYJB 5.0
no more screen hanging up black but got screen flickering issues, so i went into dev options and checked the H/W option..
as of now he took the phone back since he said that was the real issue.
Which rom would you recommend that runs very stable?
things have changed, like i said all new cm10 are stable, well mine is which is superlite v7.0, but that one has no chinese support, but superheavy does, cm10 is 4.1
as for international, he just has to worry about the radio and apns
So which CM10 would you suggest? specifically

not a good question to ask on this forum, "which is best", read the individual rom threads and see which ones would suit your/his needs, but since i only use my rom, then superheavy should fulfill his needs, its posted on my sig for superlite

help with my ROM issue please

Hey guys! Could someone please tell me why the signal on my phone gets so crappy when I flash the "extreme hawkish ROM" on my SGH-I317 A&T galaxy note 2. So many people have told me to flash a new modem. Others told me to flash new kernel. Where can I find the latest modem? What is the best kernel for these kinds of issues.
Thank you so much everyone. FYI, I'm so new to the android world (came from the iPhone ) and I friggin love it.

Welcome! Do some research into Radio updates. Stock phones are known for "fluffing" your signal - possible you never had that great of signal in the first place.

Thank you so much. what do you mean by the radio updates? like a ragular radio, or is it something related to signal in phones? and how will they boost up the signal. I always a good signal with other ROMs on, but with this ROM. Thank you again for replying.
