Please recommend a good phone for my friend.
She is thinking of getting the Galaxy S but she is not sure.
I have the X10 and she likes its design, camera and the screen size.
She likes to text.
Needs a good camera for picture and video.
Prefer actual keyboard to touch screen ones.
Likes the phone to be sleek but will compromise for a good keyboard.
Thank you
Samsung epic doesn't sound like a bad idea

any galaxy s wouldn't be a bad choice, could also look into the g2/desire z
stay away from Samsung...
well, if you are rooting and flashing savvy i don't see anything wrong with samsung.
hTC Desire
Samsung Galaxy yes
I think the best should be samsung galaxy
I would go with a G2 actually
Samsung Epic is a good phone for anyone who wants a keyboard.

It seems she want the galaxy s pro. Is that the samething as the epic 4 G?
can the Epic 4 G be unlocked? does it work with sim card?
thanks everyone for the reply. I will take a look at all the other phones metioned too.
I've been using an iphone for years now and I sick of IOS and its lack of usefulness IMO.
Anyways I'm looking to switch soon to andriod any suggestions on phones or manufacturers? I have heard from a friend that HTC is the best for rooting is this true? I'd like to root my phone so I dont want to end up with a phone that is locked down.
I am currently looking at the samsung Galaxy S II, Driod Bionic and HTC thunderbolt. Though I hear the driod bionic may not be rootable? Any other suggestions?
I'm open to service providers though I am looking at verizon right now.
Sorry if this has been asked before I tried to search but didnt find anything.
I'm starting to research now so any help would be appreciated and any website suggestions would be awesome too.
Thanks for the help!!

HTC is the way to go. Samsung is cheaply made.

The galaxy s2 is a nice one on paper, I haven't tried it myself but I believe it would be good. I wasn't a fan of the original galaxy s though, it felt very cheap and the touch screen wasn't as good as the htc's. I used the htc desire and really liked that one, htc makes some brilliant phones, that feel well-built, well programmed and really stand out when you actually use them.
I think either the galaxy s2 or a htc phone would be good, I'm liking the look of the HTC sensation myself. If you're looking for a dual core like those though, I believe it would be best to wait it out for a while and see how the development goes for them.
thanks for all the suggestions how are samsung phones for rooting? or does it all depend on the development community picking up the phones?
no problem at all with rooting, personally i would suggest you'll get a fully customized rom for your phone - these are much faster than the stock firmware and rooted by default...
For google, make the Maps 5 with navigation to be available completely offline, like you can do with OVI Maps in nokia.
I know that the htc one s will be coming to t-mobile and the sgs3 will come later this year. I dont know if i should wait or not. Ive herd alot of crap about the htc one s and good stuff so it startles me and also the sgs3 may be to long of a wait

I wont get another Samsung until they really get something different. Maybe when they reach SGS5. I mean, take a look at Tmobiles line: Vibrant, SGS 4G, SGS2... I think they got another one "new" very alike... and what are we getting? Same phone with slightly different things. All we getting is the Vibrant, then Vibrant+, then Vibrant++ and so on. Let's not start talking about the RAM because I think 1GB is enough so a 0.5GB more doesn't make much impact. I mean, how many different things can you do at a time to consume that memory? Gmail, GTalk, Twitter, Angry Birds...? Come on!
My next phone has to be one that I could use with or as a tablet and/or computer. Maybe one with a dock or a hidden keyboard. Definitely, bigger screen and flash and better battery... wait I'm dreaming!
I suggest you take good care of the current phone and wait till something amazing comes.

Why would Samsung not put Android on a phone that is the flagship of their Android lineup? The Galaxy lineup is kinda like Motorola's Droid lineup. It wouldnt make sense to put WP7/8 or iOS on them.
I dunno either,
it was just a rumor

I feel the same way. I strongly dislike touchwiz. I remove it and replace with a different launcher before I even flash a rom. I am eager to check out TW5 but I do not have very high expectations for it.
I would like to have the HTC but I have really grown to love my Samsung... even though they treat the SGS4g like the bastard child. With the GS3 being the flagship device I don't imagine to run into the same problems (well, not for as long at least) as we have the the SGS4g. Plus I just do not think I would be as happy with a dual core knowing that quad cores are just around the corner. JMO

I am definitely going to get the SGS3....btw they aren't minor upgrades....you go from 1 processor to quad core and you call that a minor upgrade? 5mp to maybe 12mp or 15mp camera....these phones might look the same but they are very very different.
Does anyone know if there is any Sense 4 for the Unlocked, Rooted, Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII
No. We will probably never get it either. Unless you attempt the port yourself

just use the sense4 theme on an aosp rom, it gets you the look. Most don't miss the functionality. Huge app previews on app switcher? There's mods around to do that. Lock screen copycats are available on apps as well. Can't think of anything else to miss.
I still don't understand why people want sense....... its the worst skin in my opinion .....

Sense has a few nice parts, like it's People app, folders etc. But yeah, TW is better
I always liked Sense, but it has too much UI lag for me. But we'll never see that on a non HTC phone now, way too much work, too complicated, and to most devs that could do it, not worth the effort

Never EVER thought I would hear someone say TW is better...Lol I think it's just inherent to all phone owners to hate whatever ui is on their device and want the others.

I like Sense better in regards to "out of the box", however, until HTC starts putting decent sized (removable) batteries on their Verizon phones..... Well, I now own a Samsung.
Now that I took the leap to root and customize it a bit more, I may change my mind about which I prefer later. I'm not a fan of "stock Android", but Touchwiz seems to offer a little bit of both worlds.

Yeah same here. I'll admit Sense can be laggy, and the huge previews for app switching is silly, but TW is an eyesore, Sense looks loads better in my opinion.
Then again I started out with an HTC phone and have stuck with them so, there's that.

I just ordered a S3 16GB. I have a nexus(not rooted), on Jelly Bean. I love Jelly bean and touchwiz looks good.
Just want to know how you guys feel, who came from a nexus to the S3. Was it a wise decision and would you want to go back to nexus?
I know a lot of people will say everyone is different and everyone has there own likes. Just trying to some opinions. Thanks!

A few folks I know had no end of antenna / signal issues with their Nexus devices. One had so many replaced due to hardware issues Verizon agreed to send him an S3. He likes the S3 much better, actually likes the touch wiz stuff and likes the camera, battery life MUCH better.
Have both use both but most of the time it's the s3. I battery life is awesome and AOSP roms are stable enough for everyday use. So the amazing camera and better battery life make it a no brainier. I just use the nexus when I'm filling frisky and want something different or new rom wise. Or when I go to the gym, since the audio playback on the nexus is a fair amount superior. Highs distort with the s3.

KLIPSCH Image S4's are a popular model of relatively high performing in-ear headphones...
BTW: I have a Nexus and just received my SGS3 today. The first Nexus I received had mad antenna issues. Verizon replaced it and the second one initially had constant 4G drops but after the Jelly Bean update, it's solid. JB didn't help the 1st one at all. Battery does seem to drain pretty quickly on the Nexus compared to other devices (HTC Evo, Evo 3D, etc.). I'll try to remember to provide more feedback after a week or so of using the SGS3.

the sg3 is 10x better than any nexus ive owned.
I have owned both, the S3 is better in basically every way, except I really did like the onscreen navigation buttons on the Nexus. Battery life is far superior on the S3, and everything for me just works. Reception is better also. Some improvements are really small over the Nexus, and I don't mean to down the nexus in any manner, it would be my phone if I did not have the S3. It's just a step up in most all aspects. I use stock ROM with the Apex launcher, as I like the stock android look. I am not ready to jump to Jelly Bean until completely stable. I am unlocked, rooted, running clean ROM 2.5.
I prefered my Galaxy Nexus over this one so far. It fit better in hand, looked better, and ran smoother out of the box. I haven't had a chance to get an aosp build together for this phone yet, but stock to stock I would take the Galaxy Nexus again now that I've had some time with the S3.

It is really disturbing what happened with the last Nexus... that name seems like it may just dissolve into just some marketing crap and maybe get you the latest OS when you buy it and some compatibility later but ... little else. Even more so now that there will be numerous Nexus devices so numerous flagships that aren't actually flagship devices.
Google meanwhile doesn't seem to care.

I came from a gnex. I actually wish I had kept it when I bought my s3. I liked the on screen buttons. The s3 batt life is better tho. Its not much of an upgrade in my opinion. The gnex was rooted and running jellybean. It was smoother for some reason. Now that I've used the s3 for some time. I prefer the nexus.

I too currently have the GSM Nexus and the SGS3 and switch between them swapping the sim. SGS3 impresses other people the most, but I like the Gnex a bit more. Damn good looking phone that runs so smooth. The 3 has more bells and whistles, but I don't use them much. If I could only have one, I think I would miss the Gnex more than the 3.

With my Klipsch ones and the s3 I have a little bit of distortion (almost a harshness of the tone) in the high notes. It's not evident with every song but if the tones go high enough it almost rings out. With my Klipsch s4 it's far more noticeable although honestly I think my s4 might need to be warranty replaced. Regardless it isn't there with my nexus at all. I played with them both on a trip to Chicago and there was very noticeable difference between the phones.
