Please recommend a good phone for my friend.
She is thinking of getting the Galaxy S but she is not sure.
I have the X10 and she likes its design, camera and the screen size.
She likes to text.
Needs a good camera for picture and video.
Prefer actual keyboard to touch screen ones.
Likes the phone to be sleek but will compromise for a good keyboard.
Thank you
Samsung epic doesn't sound like a bad idea

any galaxy s wouldn't be a bad choice, could also look into the g2/desire z
stay away from Samsung...
well, if you are rooting and flashing savvy i don't see anything wrong with samsung.
hTC Desire
Samsung Galaxy yes
I think the best should be samsung galaxy
I would go with a G2 actually
Samsung Epic is a good phone for anyone who wants a keyboard.

It seems she want the galaxy s pro. Is that the samething as the epic 4 G?
can the Epic 4 G be unlocked? does it work with sim card?
thanks everyone for the reply. I will take a look at all the other phones metioned too.

In terms of battery life, CPU performance and other functions that make it a good phone...
It depends what you are going to use your phone for and it basically comes down to personal preference. I have a hTC Desire and i think its the best phone i have ever owned. I rooted it and i am running AuraxTSense, a custom ROM, if your new to Android, if you root your phone you void the warranty and in the process you carry what ever risks come with it. Good OEMS to do research on are Samsung, Motorola, hTC & LG. They have handsets catered to every type of user.
Captivate! Hands down.
I'm a fan of the samsung fascinate. Check it out!
Well, I love the spex of my atrix

Like the posts above it depends. Without the devs my Epic is trash. With the devs and custom roms that phone is amazing plus its damn near impossible to brick it and thats a huge plus

I love the Samsung Galaxy S lineup. But without the Devs (and root), these phones just don't reach their true potential.

Samsung Vibrant
I have yet to install other ROMs on it, as i am having trouble, but until then i have the android OS 2.2 Froyo on my vibrant with T-Mobile. The Battery power isn't fantastic, wont last longer than a day, sometimes not a full day, but the music, web, and apps are great! I hear some ROMs are great for battery power so if they really do help, the vibrant is a great phone.
Galaxy s.

Samsung Galaxy is nice. You can go for HTC models also.
oh come on guys its the {Samsung Nexus S}
I can suggest you motorola or acer (Better in my region but assistance will be little bad)
htc desire, highly recommended!samsung builds quality phones as well but they are the worst when it comes to longtime support of their hardware (not that it matters when you are on xda already ;-) )
Nexus S .
I vote Nexus S. I've owned a lot of android phones and this thing is hands down the absolute best. Lack of SD card annoys a lot of people though.

I think I would go with Galaxy S
I would wait for the EVO 3d
if the thunderbolt had at least a 1600mah battery it would win for sure even now its a beast. but when the evo 3d comes out it will be the **** (specs wise +1730mah batt)

I'm using an x10. Wouldn't advise this, tbh, but thanks to XDA I've had 2.2 and 2.3 roms, and it's a beautifully built phone. Basically, you need to find out what you need from your phone. If it's only calls/txts you need, get a Nokia 3310: it does the job admirably(still). But if you want to browse, check emails, play games, personalize, experiment, annoy your wife/girlfriend/kids, get any android phone that is gonna be supported beyond 2.1 Or if the latter parts don't apply, get an iOS or symbian phone...

Htc incredible, 'nuff said lol great phone, cpu is super fast 8gb of internal memory. 8 megapixels camera, high resolution screen. Unlike the samsung galaxy phone IT has a double flash. I'm just saying

I've been using an iphone for years now and I sick of IOS and its lack of usefulness IMO.
Anyways I'm looking to switch soon to andriod any suggestions on phones or manufacturers? I have heard from a friend that HTC is the best for rooting is this true? I'd like to root my phone so I dont want to end up with a phone that is locked down.
I am currently looking at the samsung Galaxy S II, Driod Bionic and HTC thunderbolt. Though I hear the driod bionic may not be rootable? Any other suggestions?
I'm open to service providers though I am looking at verizon right now.
Sorry if this has been asked before I tried to search but didnt find anything.
I'm starting to research now so any help would be appreciated and any website suggestions would be awesome too.
Thanks for the help!!

HTC evo is very good. Anything from HTC for that matter

HTC is the way to go. Samsung is cheaply made.

The galaxy s2 is a nice one on paper, I haven't tried it myself but I believe it would be good. I wasn't a fan of the original galaxy s though, it felt very cheap and the touch screen wasn't as good as the htc's. I used the htc desire and really liked that one, htc makes some brilliant phones, that feel well-built, well programmed and really stand out when you actually use them.
I think either the galaxy s2 or a htc phone would be good, I'm liking the look of the HTC sensation myself. If you're looking for a dual core like those though, I believe it would be best to wait it out for a while and see how the development goes for them.
thanks for all the suggestions how are samsung phones for rooting? or does it all depend on the development community picking up the phones?
no problem at all with rooting, personally i would suggest you'll get a fully customized rom for your phone - these are much faster than the stock firmware and rooted by default...
For google, make the Maps 5 with navigation to be available completely offline, like you can do with OVI Maps in nokia.
Who is the best? My top 4
1. HTC
2. MOTOROLA
3. LG
4. SAMSUNG
I look forward to seeing arguments.lol

My views are
Samsung:
Pros: great screens
Cons: terrible firmware updates
Motorola: not even relevant, they dont do wp7 so they dont matter to me
HTC:
Pros: more customization I guess?
Cons: not innovative, cheap feel, terrible battery life
LG:
pros: nothing really excellent about them... But nothing bad either, they just get by.
I put HTC on top of any lists.

Who are the most supportive toward custom rom?
HTC beats everyone. I wouldn't dream of getting another brand.

What is best for me may not be fore you
Said that I´ll choose HTC always!
I've got a Galaxy S II, it is the first mobile device I bought for myself. So +1 to SS
The Samsung Transform that i have makes me not like samsung. And true with the late updates. Everyone without the certain device that wont get updated would be on whats after ICS. We'd still be on Honeycomb.

I haven't owned many phones. Although, my first Android phone was an HTC HD2. Now I have a Nexus One, with a broken power button and I cant have much fun with testing ROMs with it, as I did with my Leo. My Leo broke, which is WHY I have a Nexus One -____-
SO IM CURIOUS WHAT ARE PEOPLE'S FAVORITE PHONE(S).
LONG LIVE LEO!!
I would have to say the Epic 4G, the original with a physical keyboard. With CM9 this phone is great and I do not regret buying at all.
Seems like a great phone, i would totally use it if i had sprint. Thanks!
now im using galaxy gio, nice phone, nice camera and worhted to buy
just in my opinion
Seems like it has some great development as well. Thanks for sharing!
using Galaxy Nexus , this is the best phone that i have ever seen
For this moment it is HTC Desire, always up to date and very good design and reactivity
Right now I'd have to say the HTC Sensation XE. It's my current phone and I did quite some comparing before I bought it. But with what I see coming the next years, I think my next phone will become by then-all-time-favorite and so on.
Isn't HTC HD2 a Windows mobile phone. It's not Android.

Can't he just get another note 2? I think the price is about the same or even lower than S4 or HTC One. Also the choice is based on personal preference their both great devices.

well I spent a about two hours playing with both phones, both were very good phones, what made
the HTC stand out to me was first pinch and zoom , when i did this on the S4 it would not realign the
words into a single column , which meant i had to scroll side ways on the website while I read a article. I used CNet , Fox news , phonenet , TechRadar to test..
next was the sound ,
For such small speakers , the HTC One put out decent sound, makes it nice if you just want some back ground music
with out having to use the headphones...granted I use it in semi-quite environments ..
The S4 had a plastic feel to it while the HTC one felt really solid, you can twist the S4 where the HTC One you cannot..
I did give the S4 a solid going over, it did have a kinda cool thing where it would follow your eye movement, it work but
but needed improvement... I would have rather seen Samsung spend money on the phone then marketing
like a metal case.. and HTC gives you the tools to unlock the boot.
Depe ds on your preference. One has the stronger body, and S4 has a removable back, which means interchanging batteries, and getting custom designed backs for it. The S4 also has a micro sd (sorry if this was mentioned, for I'm only skimming through), which the One provides more storage for the same price.
The S4 focuses much more on the software features, while the One focuses more on the design of the hardware and software without being too intrusive or overbearing. Sense 5 UI found on the One is pretty sweet and lighter than previous versions of Sense, and also lighter than TouchWiz. TouchWiz is much more fun to explore with the many things that you can do with it.
They both have similar processor, with an exception of the clock speeds (the S4 is 200MHz faster, but the average user - and even some power users - will not tell the difference.
I'm intentionally omitting my preference, for that is irrelevant to your decision. I'm not trying to influence your decision, but provide my unbiased opinions. (Hopefully, no one has enough insight to my decision...)

If you want a very good phone for its design quality, go with the HTC One.
If you are a Samsung fan and longtime user, go with the S4
Go for HTC One

If you can live with the 4 MP camera of HTC One then go for it. That's the only weak point of One against S4 I believe.
