Cool app to control what kids can access - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

I found this app called KidsCare - Child Lock that has been a lifesaver for me. It allows me to setup what apps on my fire my kids can access. Now when the kids want to play games on my fire I can hand them the fire without worrying!
Search for KidsCare in the amazon app store.

I have been using app lock. It allows you to unlock apps upon launch, and has a widget that allows you to lock or unlock everything that you chose to lock. And it has a pattern unlock (as well as pin).

This app wouldn't work for me because I know soooo much about android. I could just uninstall it through adb. not that I would do anything bad. I'm just saying its easy to get around LOL

I think applock is more to keep your roommate from texting **** pictures to you mom when you leave your phone on the coffee table than for real security. And even though he is shockingly smart sometimes, my toddler had trouble getting the drivers to work for adb.
Applock does allow you to secure application management, but you are right, it is never going to provide criminal level security.

[Q] How to disable automatic login to Market

On my Android phone there is no prompt for password before buying a paid app. I would like to be prompted for password before buying paid apps from Market.
This feature is present with iPhones.
I tried google and and forums - could not find a solution.
My friend's 4 year old bought 2 apps when he was given the phone to play for sometime and I noticed after 30 mins only (15 minutes is the cancellation time frame).
I am on Froyo & have an HTC Desire
Try app lock by creative core on the market. Then he could put a password on the market and any other app he doesn't want the kid getting into. Its free and ad supported but u can get a key to remove ads in market.

Amazons free app for today is watch dog full version. For those of you who like to keep an eye out for rouge apps. I highly recommend you download it.

Great catch, Mud! I've been using the Lite version for awhile and I've been forgetting to check out the Amazon free app of the day, so thanks for the heads up. Getting it now....

So far I've netted Plants vs. Zombies, Gaia GPS, Pac-man, Mahjong pro, and now watchdog!
Haha. Good call. I had a feeling a thread would show for this.
When I opened amazon and saw watchdog, I swear, the 'get app' button practically pushed itself.
It's days like this that make checking the daily free app of the day on amazon pay off.
Get it, people.
I look at amazon apps every day and I get the free ones even if I don't need them. Todays was a great find though

A little off topic but search appstore reminder in the forums and you'll find an app that will pop up a notification at a chosen time of what the free app is

It will have you add a payment option to your account, but the free apps are never charged to the card.
Once you've added the payment option, it won't ever ask for it again, unless you purchase a paid app.
It's Amazon's way of covering their rearends.

Yes. This is what discourages me from using Amazon App Store. So I turn on 1 click, do the purchase, and turn it back off right away. Amazon does not refund. So very high chance of accidental purchases that would not be refunded.
When I first installed the Amazon app store, I download an always free app. I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it. Now it is always in my apps list with the option to install it. Does anyone know how I can remove it? I tried searching for an answer but can't find one.

Amazon works differently, while market installs apps when you click Ok, amazon downloads the app and then asks for install... You can just cancel it.
Or if you are scared then install and remove immediately after that using easy uninstaller app.

If I download the app and hit cancel, would I need to navigate to it with a file explorer like Astro and click to install it? Or, will canceling cause the app not to be saved? How is Easy Uninstaller different from the stock uninstaller, other than how you can uninstall more than one app at a time?

There really is no reason to post a comment like this, because what it says is... you don't trust us.
Fine, I'm not hurt. Really, I'm not.
You don't have to trust anyone here. But you sure seem to when receiving other advice in the numerous threads you've posted asking for our help. Now you're not so sure... Lol
Just go read about it on the market. Check how many times watchdog lite has been downloaded, and read the reviews people have posted on its market page.
And then make your own informed decision.

[Q] What is the best "find my phone" app?

I did a search in the "infuse" forum and couldn't find a thread.
What is the best app out there to lock, clean and/or find your phone? The best one on the market looks to be "Lookout Mobile Security". Any ideas?
Lookout is what I run, its pretty nice and it works. I have the free version but there is a paid one, I believe it has one or 2 more feature. The free one with give you app scanning, lost or stolen phone location (tested and works) and a quite nice feature of sending a siren noice to your phone if you happen to misplace your phone while on vibrate.

I've got SeekDroid on my phone.
Phonelocator pro. Everything it's done by text command, nothing running in the background. Battery life has no affect unlike others. Also if your rooted copy the apk to your system and u could auto enable GPS.
Samsung Infuse 4G
i love lookout mobile security. you can track your phone on their website. and you can make it "scream" if you cant find it, even if its on silent. it also has an "antivirus" which im not sold on (its linux, its not a window "virus"). it has more advanced features too if you pay for them.
I'm using SeekDroid. I was using Lookout before but felt like it was using up my battery life.

Actually its not really antivirus, just similar to anti-malware, like rouge apps
Phone locator pro is the best out there. It even turns gps on if you have it off

well it's a three way tie between Lookout, Seekdroid and Phone Locator.
I run Lookout as it does a pretty good job of anti-malware, keeps a running backup online so you can restore from a specified date, live tracks your device, "screams" the device to help you find it, and gives you the ability to remotely wipe it from their site.

S Pen Question

Hello All,
I am a high school math teacher considering the purchase of this for classroom usage. My goal is to wirelessly connect to my desktop PC and run my windows software from the tablet (using Jump Desktop or something similar). I will be controlling a program called SMART Notebook. My question is this: the only reason I really want this tablet over many others is the accuracy of the S Pen, which will be awesome for writing equations and such. However, will the S Pen even work while using those remote desktop control apps? I've heard people say it only works for a hand full of apps. If this is true, I would not purchase this tablet. Other tablets just are so unresponsive with styli that I've tried. It's very frustrating. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
In case this is a tl;dr situation:
Will the S pen function smoothly and accurately in an app such as Jump Desktop or any other app where you remote access a PC?

U do know that the s note app automatically does math formulas and equations. Actually works pretty cool. Just to play around I wrote up a bunch of fake equations and it figured it out

Somehow i think you unresponsiveness issue is not coming from tablet itself but the network you used to connect both device... if that's the case note 10.1 wont be any help either...

I was testing the tablets with no network connection. I was just testing the accuracy of writing with various styli on various tablets. I didn't have an opportunity to try the whole PC remote control setup in the store.
Is it just me? Do I suck at using styli? Haha. I couldn't get things to write correctly. It would always miss spots in my numbers and stuff. As if you're writing in pen and it is running out of ink.

Wired Magazine for Android Tablets

I recently pulled the Wired Magazine .apk from a cousin's Kindle Fire, and have found that it works well on the Nexus 7, and presumably other tablets. The current version is ̶2̶.̶7̶.̶0̶.̶1̶1̶.̶6̶0̶2̶0̶1̶ 2.9, and the only downside is that it seems like the magazine itself does not fill the entire screen while in viewing mode.
Some prerequisites:
-both Adobe Air and the Amazon Appstore must be installed (you must be logged in, too) for the app to function
-if you have an ad blocker installed, you must add any any websites that include adobe to your whitelist. Mine included "broker.adobe.com" and "stats.adobe.com". This might not be necessarily, but it is a good precaution. If you ignore this and the app crashes, uninstall it and add them.
Just install the app normally after checking the first two things. Also, you must have already purchased the magazines (at least in my testing). If you have a print subscription, I would advise creating your account on a computer, not in the app.

The Kindle Fire HD is the same screen resolution, but the regular Kindle Fire is not. It's 1024x600 vs 1280x800, a short coming of ~200 pixels in each direction. This could explain the black edges. Maybe it defaults to the 1024x600 resolution unless it sees some indication of being on a Fire HD (ie: build.prop or other file). If so, I imagine there could be a fix for this to mimic the HD and get the full resolution.
OR, Wired could just release the damn app for all Android platforms. :silly:

I think you're right, but I unfortunately don't have access to a Fire HD. I think they use different versions on each different model, so that might be why. That is a complete guess, through.

Yeah, F* that. Wired will give a free interactive digital issue to iPad and Kindle owners, but charge existing subscribers extra for some crappy PDF version that I could download for free from a number of places.
If Wired doesn't change it's tune, I'm planning on cancelling once my current subscription is over - just on principle.

I used to get this error on my Nook Color but was able to successfully ignore it. Make sure you have the Amazon App store installed, logged in and updated. I think you also need Adobe Air. If you haven't already, "purchase" the Wired app in the Amazon app store via the web. It won't let you download the app and will say your device isn't compatible, but maybe it will get rid of the ownership message. I'm guessing here, so no promises this will fix anything.
Still not working on my n7. I've gotten it to work on my cm7 nook color, but I've tried everything on my n7. I've even re-installed the amazon app store and adobe air. I've also tried the previous version of the wired magazine apk. I get everything to install and open normally, I just can't log in to download my subscriptions. Anyone have any other suggestions?
The messed up thing about this is that it was a wired article that I was reading on my nook color that made me want to upgrade to the n7.

Make sure you disable any ad blocking software or changes made to your hosts file to block ads. This prevents you from logging in to the app.

If you have Adobe Air installed, then I don't know what you can do. Try uninstalling Air and the Wired, and then re-install them. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Wired doesn't offer ANY support so you're just out of luck.
