[Q] Porting I9000 Rom over and now bootlooping :( - Samsung Infuse 4G

Basically what the title says. I'm working on porting my first ROM over. I don't want to spoil the surprise but it's a Galaxy S I9000 ROM. I fixed the build.prop, the updater-script, I moved over the correct system/lib/hw files. And of course the boot.img. IDK what I did wrong to make it bootloop but I'd love for this to be ported easily. Any help? PLEASE!

Did you add an Infuse modem and kernel? Are you using the Hellraiser package? If your not using the Hell raiser pack you should. It makes it easier. Just extract folders from HR and place files from folders in corresponding folder inside I9000 rom. Profit.

Had the modem and kernel yes, but decided to try the hellraiser pack. I copy and pasted every file and every folder in there and it's still bootlooping

Yeah I meant every file. I'd open the folder. Copy the files and move and replace them into my rom folder(if necessary) and I edited the updater script and the script worked fine. Idk I'm gonna take another look at it tomorrow. Maybe it needs a pair of refreshed eyes looking at it.

I only copied the script and added it to my current script. Should I not have done that?
Also is there a way to test this rom without flashing it on my phone? Like I've used avd but idk where to out what. Sorry for my noobie questions guys. But I gotta learn somewhere right?

[Q] Boot Animation

Okay, so I have been able to get a bootanimation.zip that i want. I placed it in /data/local... I reboot and it still shows the old swirling Samsung logo...But it does play my custom boot sound (awesome)... I haven't really seen any SGS4G specific threads...and the ones to other phones kind of run me in circles. Not looking for a hand out, just a heading...any idea? Something im PROBABLY missing...
Oh and i gave the bootanimation.zip god privileges...not sure if it matters
Running on 2.3.5 KI3 from Octiane V2.0 (awesome ROM BTW)
at the moment our gingerbread kernels do not support custom boot animations. I'm sure once we have a source to work with, will have full support.

OK first try with this app. I rooted my girls stock gingerbread droidx (if u need help rooting it stock gb droid x u can email me.)then u can download root toolbox and they have a section for boot animation, select one u like and install it. with this app u can even change splash screen and battery icon but for icon u will need pro version. u can just go to ipmart and download it for gree. anyways..... if this does not work u will have to do it manually which may seem scary but its quite simple. first get the bootanimation.zip u want and rename it(if u r with verizon) VZW_bootanimation.zip then download super explorer and then go to ur phones internal system /custom/reasourses and first want to go to that location and copy past the original bootanimation of phone and save to soundcard incase u want to change back to it in system/customize/reasourses and delete ,it will be names VZW_bootanimation.zip. now the custom animation can be added. go copy the custom animation go back to system/customize/reasourses and paste new animation a boom it will work I promise. note if for some reason when u restart phone and no animation is there dont worry nothing is broken the animation isn't allay compatible so just find another on and follow all the steps again minus saving the boot u had added u can just delete it.. now what I desperetly need help with is adding custom sound. I have tried many different thing with no results but negative. ive tried deleting the old sound file and renamwd new sound as old one and placed in system/customize/reasourses no sound , I even went into system/customize/cd/default.xml and changes the writing that tells the system when to play music to autostart="part0" /> no go ,="part1" /> no go. neither worked. I even unzipped the bootanimation.zip and renamed the folder VZW and changed back autostart="VZW" ect which was the original setting and no go. ive tried renaming file and placing it in system/media and pasteing no go, ive tried copying file and pasteing it in system/meadia/notification like some direction have said and no go. im at a lose of what to do. I have a thunderbolt running stock gb and want to customize the sound for bootanimation so if anyone can help please email me [email protected]. thanku and I await ur response

Considering this is for the Samsung galaxy s 4g, you technically are in the wrong forum. Our phones use a qmg file for animations as far.as I know, so bootanimations.zip will not work, I've already tried the method you posted, without success.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
there's a few custom ones in the theme section. You just have to push all the files manually.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
then its quite simple just rename ur new bootanimation exactally as ur old one a boom there u go. its not that difficult and if that doesnt work try something simple and download romtoolbox and install if from therr. if it works on the droid x it should that one

also u probably not only have to name it correctly u may have to try androidzip and change it to that kind of file type if not that do so on ur computer. were Theres a will Theres a way. also make sure ur permissions r correct

I will try that. If the qmg file is truly a zip file with its own custom file extension, then it should work, if its not, then it will display nothing. I'll back up just in case, but I was told by a developer on this phone (I believe raver), that it wasn't supported by the kernel.

Let me know if that works, i'm out for a few days...I'll try when I get home. However, the second response to my post was that it's unsupported... But if there is a work around, that would be sweet.

Rename your wavfile to PowerOn.wav and push to system/etc
Make sure you name it exactly PowerOn.wav, matching the upper case P and O is necessary to make it work.

[MOD] ICS Transition Animations

Hey guys, I'm trying to port over the ICS transition animations over to the CM nightlies via this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117
I did everything to a T numerous times and every time I push the newly modified framework-res.apk into my system/framework via Root Explorer I'm always hit with FC's and when I reboot I get hit with bootloops.
Anyways I was wondering if anyone else can see how to get this working on the G2x, any help would be great!
just wandering isnt the framework for cm7 different from the framework for ics so that may be the problem. just my thoughts.
You are aware that this is done in the computer, not inside the rom, you have to do this with the zipped rom, and then flash it.

Yes I took the framework, decompiled it, replaced the old animations with the ICS ones. Then I recompiled it, signed it, and then tried to push it into my system and get loops every time. What I'm doing should be working but its not. So was wondering if someone who knows more about this could see why its not working.

Not that it will likely help much, but it is not required to sign system apks. Furthermore, are you making any XML edits? If so did you make sure to remove the edited files and the resources file?

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
System files should never be resigned after editing them. That is why APK Manager asks you if it is a system file. It doesn't sign it. Just compile it and then zip align it. Don't sign it and try it again. Also when I recompile system files I never say Yes to the last question about copying everything over to the keep folder. I just recompile from the files in my project folder and I never have problems.
I think the ea asiest way of doing this is deleting the anim folder in the framework-res.apk and drag/drop ics anim folder into that apk. It might ask you if you want to add, just click yes. And then just push the new modded framework-res to your phone with adb. That's what I did from cm6 to cm7. It might be different with ICS....its worth a shot. Hope this helps.

You have to tell people what rom you are using. The framework files are not the same between the different roms. You just can't use a modified framework meant for another rom.
i have miui 11/18 but ill switch to cm7 if you can get it working on that
I GOT IT !!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117&page=14
find the patcher by DaxElectro and download it , it works with miui and cm7 , once you make the 2 zips go into recovery mode and go to mounts and storage than mount system than flash the patch zip and enjoy ics transitions , i tested it with miui and it works

Need Help Extracting .img Files From a .zip (For Use With Android Emulator)

I've been up for about the last 3 hours searching and experimenting. I'm creating a rom for a phone I don't own (bored and figured I might as well help while we have this dev reccession) and I'm using AVD (an android emulator) in Eclipse to kind of get a feel of how its coming along before I make any releases. It's just a heavily themed CM7 rom with a different kernal and a few goodies, nothing special but I'm starting with something easy to help me get back into android development (havent programmed anything in over 6mos lol). Im currently using 64bit Ubuntu 12.04.
Anyways, how can I extract the system.img and all of those without a nandroid backup so I can run the rom in an emulator? I was under the impression the mkfs.yaffs2 thing would extract them FROM the rom, but turns out it only extracts and recompiles .img's by themselves. I would ask somebody if they could flash it and just give me the nandroid backup but its still in an early alpha build and I dont feel comfortable letting anyone flash it until I stablize it and get rid of all the major bugs. That, and its a huge privacy risk on their end.
What can I do?
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081239

I downloaded an RUU, I'm going to try to extract the files from there. Ill post what happens
Well, that failed. I'm gonna see if I can get someone to maybe extract some of the files I need and send them to me or something. This is a huge pain in the ass but I can't release a build and have it brick everyone. The code looks good but I actually need to mess around with it before I can ship it off.

Rom with spell checker?

I just got this phone yesterday to discover that the stock rom (rooted) doesn't have the red line show up under a misspelled word. I had this on my evo 4g running cm9 or 10.

I also think this is a keyboard feature. Try installing one of the different keyboards from the play store.
I'm using swift 3, no red lines on touchwiz, however my galaxy player 5.0 running cm9 w/swift 3 has it (did not on touchwiz). I assume this is a rom feature.

The changes made should work. So basically if you compared the changes of this to their stock rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272 and then applied the same changes to our stock rom, it would work. BUT their files as is will not work.
Basically, it would probably take about 15 minutes for someone to do if they knew what they were doing. I however don't have 15 minutes to spend on this so I can't help right now lol.

so what I would do is download their stock deodex and extract the files that are included in the mod.
Then, decompile the .jars and apks that were modded and the stock version
Run winmerge on them to see exactly what they changed
Then make those exact changes to our stock deodex rom. So you will need to decompile 3 sets of files and recompile 1 set.

I got apktool installed and decompiled framework.jar where it creates a folder called smali. The problem is, I can't view any of the contents from within it. If I go to properties it states contents "nothing" yet shows free space as being 66.7 GB. So I know that there's something in there, I'm just not allowed to view the contents. I read somewhere that you need a text editor?
I did all this on a Linux machine (Mint 13.) I'm gonna try it on a windows PC next just to see what happens.
Edit: I found out that by changing .jar to .apk and then decompiling it allowed me to view the contents. Now I'm sitting at trying to open the TextView.smali. lol
Edit 2: for some reason it's not working for the JellyWiz rom. It's still not showing the contents from within the samli folder.

[Q] Herc JB Rom on I727 autorotate issue

Same issue as ICS. Running the Herc t989 rom on the i727. I've tried replacing files and I still cant get it to work (replaced the matching file names from the ICS fix).
The autorotate fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592170&highlight=rotation+fix fixed me on ICS. Reading his post again, it sounds like a fix that is more than just a driver change. Anyone have a solution? I tried the search and a flood of nothing for Jellybean.
Also copy over sensor libs and hardware.so and hardware_legacy.so. It works fine that way. I just pull them from our CM10.1.
You rock, I'll try that tonight. I tried pulling from the stock i727 image and it didnt work. Totally didnt think about pulling the drivers from CM10
Tried copying sensorservice libakm and libsensorservice. (used the latest snapshot). Booted to the samsung screen and hangs.
Replaced the files back and it boots.
I re-read your post and forgot to copy libhardware.so. I'll try that again including the libhardware.so and update later.
Which sensor libs should I pull? I pulled the hardware legacy and hardware.so and the sensor.default.so from /hw still sticks at loading screen.
lib/hw/sensors.default.so and sensor.goldfish.so
EDIT: Are you packaging one of our kernels with it? If not that's your issue.
That is probably it.
This is out of curiosity, with 4.0.4 I did not have to flash the matching kernel. (I was running t989 with the t989 kernel with the mod installed). I would think the kernel is just calling the modules... is that not a correct assumption?

A nand. lol The worse you can do is bootloop. It's pretty easy to do playing with the build.prop though.
So did you get the rotation working using a t989 rom and t989 kernel on JB?

Work has kept me from finishing up. So far I replaced all the files from the original mod and the hardware and legacy modules and autorotate still doesnt work.
In the old day the final piece always was flash another kernel, up until I did the mod I originally posted. It didnt require a kernel flash. I'm really trying to figure out the secret to why there is the disconnect between flashing vs not flashing the kernel.
BTW: It makes sense to flash the kernel as well, so no dispute there. I'll download the stock JB Kernel for the 727 and try it to see. I'm just worried about my wificalling. It has a few modules that are loaded in the 989 kernel if I recall correctly.
