Hey guys,
I got my hands on the Commuter series case from Otterbox, for the One X. I'm sure most of you have seen or own a variant of this case. It is a very popular style, composed of two parts, a plastic shell that wraps around a TPU membrane. This model fits particularly well, but not too tight, which I love. It offers fantastic protection, although it is a bit pricey.

Awesome. Thank you for sharing!
Nice review! So far I like the case. Only complain is what was mentioned in the review, power button is a little hard to press. Other than that, the phone is very well protected!

I love otterbox cases other than the fact that they don't work with docks. Htc implemented the dock connector dots on the lower right region of the back so that is obviously covered and usually the port covers prevent the phone from being used with Mic USB docks as well.
Thanks for the review.

I just picked it up today just to have a case for when I'm at work and I must say... I hate it. It is a pain in the ass to put on and take off and it adds too much bulk to such a sleek phone. It's also pretty ugly by my standards. It will do for now but I hope something better comes along.
Also to the OP- the inner part is most definitely not TPU. It's silicone.
Good review, could you do a video review on the HTC ONE X DEFENDER SERIES CASE? im really thinking about getting it but i dont know if it just going to look to big. Also by us using these cases... will it make your phone over heat and drain the battery faster?
Thanks

Sorry to say, but I no longer have the One X. My uncle who lives abroad wanted it, so I bought it for him and used it for a couple of weeks before sending it to him. For that reason I won't be able to review the Defender series case.
I do have 1 last final review coming up which I hope will help.
With regards to your final question, I didn't notice any issues with battery drain to be honest with you. It will run hotter since the heat cannot dissipate as evenly, but I don't think it is too serious.
Nice review, I might pick this up.
i have this case too. while it does add a lot of bulk, it is worth it for the protection

Looks good, cheers.
I got this exact case last week, only paid £2.64, free shipping and came with a screen protector that fitted perfectly.

it's the same case, different name - black dotted one, looks at feels great.
much better than the £8 nexus one case I got from MobileFun.

Was gonna order from there too! but the 2-6wk delivery time put me off!
Yea fair enough, mine took just over a week to come, the wait isn't too bad if you've already got a case.
To be fair I'd of paid an extra couple of ££ to have it in a couple of days instead of risking a 6 week wait.
Great case though
Just wondering how much thickness do these casses add to the desire? Is it the same amount of thickness as the nexus one's case from mobilefun adds? Thanks. As i am looking for a thinner case as it needs to fit into my pdAir VX1 pouch.. :S The nexus one case adds to much to it (as i bought one from ebay)

it's probably a tiny bit thinner but not by much. its much better fitting than the nexus one case from Mobile Fun, it covers the edge around the screen it also feels generally nicer to hold.

For me it was the £99.99 price which put me off! (That's the original item, as mentioned in the first post)

I really don't think it is going to be any thinner than the nexus one specific cases.
The thinnest I have found are these snap on cases: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-Rubberi...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item51929403cc
I don't know whether it will fit in a pouch though.
Thanks I guess I'll have to go shopping with the phone in hand and see if a case fits the pouch. That's hard to do considering the phone isn't available here...maybe when I'm back on holiday in the UK I'll try and find a solution. Might get something similar to the zagg invisishield to protect the phone for know.

I've waded through what seems like 100 pages and I'm still no closer to getting anything! Seems I need a 1) thin film screen protector, 2) some sort of gel/silicone case to protect the phone from drop-damage when I'm using it and 3) a general purpose case/jacket to protect it from keys/drop damage/rain. But there's no way of knowing whether it'll fit into case 3 if it's in case 2! Sellers seem happy to advertise stuff as fitting the desire when buyers report that it doesn't, and you have the usual ebay sellers, typically in hong kong/china offering 6 week delivery times and no ability to return stuff for a refund if it turns out that you've got a crap one/it doesn't fit/isn't actually for the desire.
Does anyone have all 3 protections on their phone and who cares to share it with us (me)? And does anyone know the difference between these two items?

The first is a TPU case a sort of soft plastic like those flexible rulers you can buy, the second is a floppy silicone case.
Neither have a hole for the volume rocker you have to press through the case, ideally there should be a bump over the volume rocker to make it easy to press.
I went out brought the case the OP suggested and another case of amazon just to see the difference between them. the one from amazon hasn't arrived yet, however with regards to the ebay purchase the case arrived within two days of payment, so can't really knock the delivery time on this.
Its a snug fit, the phone doesn't move about within the case which is always reasuring. the case is reasonably thin, but does add a substantial weight and a thickness of about 3m to your phone. And the back of the case does pick up fingerprints quite easily, my old school ps3 doesn't pick up fingerprints quite as easily as this case does.
I would post photos of the case and the phone, but unforntunately my phone is my camera when whilst I'm at uni. I'll try to borrow a friends camera when I get both cases together to give you guys a little run through.

3 meters?!
In all seriousness, I got the one from eBay too and it's pretty good I'd say. It'll do for now, I'd prefer a more matt/siliconey feel but so I'll keep searching.
Just got one of these to allay my fears of breaking my phone. It does feel a lot chunkier and it's certainly not as sexy now. I might get used to it or find something else.

Hahaham we both knew I meant 3mm. However adding 3m to my phone would sure that if I dropped it, it wouldn't even reach the ground.

That's awesome, thanks for letting us know, been waiting to see that. Now after seeing it, I'm sure of what I assumed, that the OEM/Verizon kickstand case is a much better case. It has a kickstand you can use in portrait and landscape, it provides good grip on the back of the phone, it fits very tightly and is durable plastic, and it barely goes over the front of the phone at all leaving the phone quite thin.
Innocases are what I used on my last 3 phones, and the soft touch/rubberized feel is nice (the kickstand case is rubberized but not as much), but, they are relatively brittle, they bulk up the phone a good deal by covering all sides and the front, and they don't have kickstands. I can't imagine not having a kickstand now after having one. But perhaps most important, is the cost? The kickstand cases are brand new on ebay for $12 shipped. innocases are going to run you $30 + shipping.
edit: Seidio's holsters are awesome though, best I've ever used. but I know a lot of people don't use a holster, and you can't with the kickstand case on anyways. I suggested a pouch to go with the kickstand case in my thread about it in this forum.
nice! thanks for the update! i've been waiting for a solid case that didn't cover up much of the front bezel. now only if sgp's website was working and i could get the ultra crystal screen protector...
does anyone have this? how is it? bulky or no?
I bought this case. It's really nice. However it makes my phone look exactly like an Iphone. You've probably seen this case on plenty of Iphones - it is essentially identical. The case its relatively thin, but certainly adds to the phone's size. It's probably about as thin as you're going to get for a case though (aside from using an invisible sheild type skin ). Quality is great. I love the case, the added size is fine because the case is still pretty sleek looking - And well worth the $30 investment to protect such an expensive phone. Lets not forget, samsung is notorious for bad build quality.

They are about the best cases out. Not too much bulk and the rubberized finish is a nice touch. Best Buy had them in black and white. They are labeled as the Seidio platinum series on retail shelves.

ok so i just got this case.. its pretty sweet! only one thing i dont like and i can't beleive no one else mentioned this, the power and volume rockers are kinda blocked off in a way that makes it a lil tough for your thumb to get too
I just got this case today in black..weird that Best Buy lists the white case at 29.99 but the black case at 34.99..weird, not exactly sure why the black costs more. Anyways, I will have some pretty detailed pictures tonight!
No pics, my camera is bummy..but I love the case. Fits perfectly and I don't mind it making the buttons more difficult to press. I have sausage fingers anyway so it feels better to me

Just to update everyone, I had a Platinum case (Innocase) from Best Buy. I returned it because the bottom part had become unreasonably loose. Waiting for Bestbuy.com to get the Otterbox back in stock. I'm currently using the "carbon fiber" looking case from Verizon.
Here's a quick review of the SoftBank TPU Case for the HTC Desire HD.
Thanks for the review, I ordered one from Asia after seeing this. I don't like the cases they sell on Amazon this seems to be something I am looking for !
Thanks for the great review. I bought a TPU case from ebay but since I always took it off and on to swap batteries it started to stretch out and not fit any more.
After reading your review I bought the SoftBank TPU case and it is WAY better and a little firmer so it does not stretch at all so should last a lot longer. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot Blitzed_Penguin and 917. It's nice to get some positive feedback from any of these reviews.
No problem at all
I will let you know what I think about the case once I receive it.
I'm currently used to quality switcheasy cases , but they only do them for apple products.
As I said I will be reporting about my experience on this case.
Packaging: Well it came in a little plastic wrapping , so its basically the case on its own. Which does not matter because its simply a case who cares for the look of it
Feeling: the case somehow a mixture of plastic and silicon. You can basically bend it but it still is much sturdier than a normal silicon case. Nevertheless the outside of it has a plastic feeling and not silicon. I really like that as I hate silicone cases.
The case definitely gives you some additional grip.
The backside is like 30% transparent on my grey/black case. I also like that because I had a scratch when my phone dropped.without the case and its not visible now.
The bevel around the phone is much more transparent and has a silicone like feeling. The transition between the back and the bevel is a little bit Sharp on some places of my example.
Usage: the biggest downside for me is the hard to press power button. It is really awkward. On the other hand the volume buttons improved imo. I used to press them inocassionaly. And now they are just fine. The cuttings are also good also it seems like the camera is standing out a little bit.

I have been looking for a case for my HTC Sensation 4G.
The main purpose is to save a phone in case of an accidental drop.
I read this amazon review
http://www.amazon .com/review/RGI8F3AW3MSD1/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0054NUFPS
Which is like the most comprehensive review I've seen over there.
So These are the cases that I'm considering
1) http://www.amazon .com/Case-Mate-CM014574-Tough-Case-Sensation/dp/B0054NUFPS/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251536

3)http://www.boxwave .com/htc-sensation-4g-cases-and-covers/htc-sensation-4g-armor-case/bwpdd/pf-zzgc/
I appreciate your input on this
Thanks.
Looks like you already have done some research on this. But based on what you want....meaning in case of an accidental drop I think out of the ones you posted, the trident one is the one I think would be the best overall case. I personally use the seidio active case with kickstand with holster and it looks great and I feel safe in not having any exposed corners to chip or bump into.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I was incorrect in mentioning the trident case, it was the case mate that I was referring to as per video in that thread.
I'm using the Seido case right now. I love it. I've had it for about 2 months now. Glad I got this one. I like the fact that when you put it in the holster the screen faces in.
I use the Otterbox commuter series, but I think I'm going to switch to the Seidio Active. I don't like the fit of the Otterbox.
I posted a video review of these cases. It compares the Trident, Seidio, and CaseMate. It's in this forum somewhere.

I'm rockin the High Gloss Smoke TPU case:
http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25
I LOVE this case. The only thing that bugs me is that oils from hands stays on the case, and feels a little disgusting. The other bad thing is that the opening for the micro-USB port is a little smaller than it should be.
Other than that, it's an amazing case. Very protective, sleek, doesn't collect dust, and looks good!
I'm thinking about buying the Body Glove custom fit case, which is a hard-shell case covered in soft-touch coating. At Wal-Mart for $16. Just to try it out.
Thanks. I was looking for some comparisons. The video review you linked was a good comparison.

Didn't see much good reviews on the body glove case.
Free case is good, but more than that I'm willing to pay of a case that will protect my $500 phone
My brother uses a Casemate Tough Case. As a rough-and-tumble kind of guy, he didn't even want to get a case for his phone until I made him, lol. So far he's dropped his phone numerous times with the case on and, I quote him, "It just bounces!. It's a pretty bulky case but if you're looking for protection, I'd recommend it.
Hi!First post, going to try to be useful immediately
I own CM Tough and I'm very satisfied with it,although i don't use it all the time..Dropped the phone 2 times with it on pavement(clumsy me:/) and nothing happened, even the case didn't get any scratches. Also i find it very easy wearing it in pocket, even though it is kinda robust.Compared it to some other case(dont know the brand) and i like CMT more..My vote goes to it.
I'm very satisfied with CM Tough too. It may seem a bit bulky but it still feels pretty good in my hands. It offers excellent protection and looks good too IMHO.

I have this same case as well and I'm loving it so far. Only issues would have to be the somewhat difficult to press buttons but as I get used to it it's becoming a non-issue almost.
Great looking case too, fits with the white HOX especially. The grip is nice and overall it protects the phone substantially. I would recommend it to others who are looking for something a bit smaller than the Ballistic or Otterbox cases, but still want decent protection.
