[Q] Browser text reflow - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

The GT 7.0 plus is my first Honeycomb (HC) tablet (all my other phones and tabs have Gingerbread (GB)).
Unlike in GB, I notice on my GT7+, text does not reflow in the browser after I zoom in and double-tap (the so-called "manual reflow" method). Instead it just pans out (zooms out) to overview again.
I already googled this and found older posts about Froyo having this problem. I also found new posts from people who just bought the latest Galaxy Tab 2 having the same problem. I wonder if this is a Samsung problem or HC problem.
Yes I have the "Auto fit page" checked in the stock browser. I also tried Dolphin browser (my default browser) which has the same problem.

Try opera

Yes Opera auto text reflow works - but it is not as fast and smooth as the stock browser or Dolphin.
I don't understand why auto text reflow does not work in the stock browser, though there is an option to enable / disable it.

Stock browser reflows the text but only when using the double tap zoom.

Yes I know text reflow with double-tap zoom - but double-tap zoom only zoom to a fixed level.
In my original Galaxy Tab and all other Gingerbread phones and tablets, when I pinch-zoom-in to any random zoom level, then double-tap, text will reflow in that particular level of zoom.

Use boat browser and never look back.
That reflow may not work always, depending on the site, figures or objects.

Keyboard lag "fix"

I just found this website with a fix for the keyboard lag in the stock browser:
smartadopter Wordpress -> TIP Improve Honeycomb Browser Speed
(I am new so not allowed to post outside links )
Basically it says:
1) as url type: about:debug
2) nothing will seem to happe.n BUT new menu options are available now
3) go to menu -> settings -> debug, and uncheck OpenGL Rendering
4) no more lag!
If this already floated around this forum, sorry. But if not, or for the people (like me) who missed it, enjoy!
I have not found any drawbacks of this fix. But if anybody find/knows any drawback/problem with this, please let me know.
Ill test this but im guessing scrolling speed will suffer as that uses the OpenGL.

Good advice. Will try it out now.
Tested and it works great. Scrolling is not affect either by this by the looks of it. Zooming works as well.
This fix isn't working. The input lag isn't gone completely, it's less noticeble, but it's still there.
And like someone mentioned before, scrolling isn's as smooth as before. Also YouTube videos don't work.
All this fix does is turn off hardware acceleration in the browser.
Some things get better, others get worse.
sassafras
Scrolling is not as smooth but I have no problems displaying YouTube movies.
But typing is a lot easier without (or with much less) lag.
So for me OpenGL rendering will stay off until the next update.
And lose my graphic acceleration? No thank you
No drawback?! Scolling looks like a freaking slideshow with that disabled ^^
Quick question for you guys... does the keyboard lag in Dolphin HD?
Not as much as the stock browser.

For me the drawback is very obvious ... scrolling through a thread in this forum is horribly slow without OpenGL. But the keybord works like a charm.
I think, I will stay with Opera for forums and use the stock browser for the rest with OpenGL switched on ... loading times in Opera are much slower.
Thanks for the tip though.
I notice objects on the page rendering with every swipe as I move down the page ...probably why scrolling is not as smooth.
Strangely the scrolling lag has disappeared. So now I have less typing lag and little scrolling lag.
So until the next update I am a happy camper.
The only lag in typing I have left has to do with the auto complete function of the on screen keyboard.
This warrants further study (in the words of someone famous) because I'm seeing the exact opposite effect.
I've gone back and forth between this site and another forum having a similar javascript textarea form, comparing text entry with the "Enable OpenGL Rendering" box checked and unchecked in the Debug menu. On both sites, text entry is WAAAY faster using the dock keyboard with the box CHECKED. This is using the stock browser, BTW.
If I use a virtual keyboard (Swype for tablets in my case), it's still faster with OpenGL enabled but not nearly as fast as with the dock keyboard.
There must be some other factors involved however, since this behavior is not consistent. At times the keyboard (dock and virtual) seriously lags regardless of the Debug setting.
I sure hope Google (or ASUS) can fix this issue since it's hugely frustrating when the keyboard lags badly. In a few cases, I've just given up trying to post a message and pulled out my laptop instead of fighting the browser.

[Q] Gingerbread browser anyone?

Just switched from android 2.3 to 4.0
On 2.2 the Internet browser used to auto-wrap text on zoom - so like for this forum i could pinch to zoom and any text would automatically zoom and wrap to screen size (to avoid panning)
Also noticed it would only scroll EITHER up/down OR left/right whcih made it really easy to scroll down a column of text without it wandering all over
On 4.0 it has 2 default browsers (incl Google Chrome) and neither behave like this - I have to either set font size in settings or double-click to zoom the browser but neither will wrap the text so it can be read easily - crap actually
Dunno whether auto-zoom-text-wrapping (Black berry used to call it "columning" text) is an attribute of the OS or browser
So in the first instance I'm just looking for the 2.3 gingerbread browser - so if anyone can give me the name of the browser I'll try and install it thanks

It wouldn't work with ICS most likely anyway. I'd look for a browser on the market with that feature.

The feature about which you are talking about is already there in Opera Mini for Android.

Actually isn't - but did discover sometime later that it is in Opera Mobile (not Mini)

S Note 5r1309FV03 Update for GT-N8010

Hi guys,
I have recently updated to the latest firmware (the 69MB "bug fix" ** , not jelly bean), and I have the following findings in S Note....
- No more options to hide tool bar, workspace significantly shrink
- My palm zooms the page every 20 seconds even though ink only mode is on
- Unable to "import" images in with landscape ratio as the note background. the gallery assumes that I want to crop a portrait image
- Which means that I have to rely on "Change background" when the note is opened, and change it EVERYTIME I add a new page
- If I close the landscape note, reopen it later, 7 time out of 10 the "change background" menu is greyed out, and 3 times out of 10 I have to select the image from gallery again.
-Import PDF finally works, but it converts my lecture slide pdfs to pixelated images of text...
I think there is a similar thread for GN8000 update, but is this what happens too? I really appreciate it if anyone can share any insights or suggestions as to how to fix the above inconvenience. I use S Note everyday and changing background every page I add is just too much for me. Portrait I tend to run out of horizontal space... Moreover, is it possible to simply install the apk of the old S Note? Will it work like before the update?
Many Thanks.
I knew I wasn't crazy! I thought something had changed in S-Note. The only thing that has actually been bugging me has been the screen resizing with my wrist. I always have to be super careful to make sure the tip of the pen is near the screen first and then I can rest my wrist. I'm sure other things have changed but I only use it to take notes at work so I always just use the default background.

I would think you could extract it from your previous rom or Titanium backup and install it in place of the latest one without issue.

No. There's associated files that would need be downgraded too. When I installed the newer APK on my Note without the associated files it crapped out. You can flash the old ROM you originally had via Odin. You should be able to find it and instructions in the dev section. Hopefully there will be an enhanced 2.0 version of S-Note in the JB update.

Browser that has true text reflow, pie control, and flash support

Does such a browser exist?
Looking for true text reflow, not that double tap zoom... But where you zoom in manually and it keeps reflowing text to show up on the screen.
-Looking for flash support in the browser with 4.4.x
-Looking for pie controls like the AOSP browser has in the labs section.
Any advice?

Reading PDF without zooming in portrait mode

Is reading PDF without zooming to make the text appear bigger in portrait mode possible ?

Maby changing DPI of your app, of course if you are rooted. Or checking settings of that app you are using, if theres some option to change font size?
Edit: There's an option to select font scale on AppSettings, if you have that installed
Are you using a PDF reader that supports cropping pages so that none of the portrait screen is wasted on page margins (ezPDF Pro , Mantano Reader Premium, eDroid Pro)? It will of course depend on what you are reading; some technical journals (e.g. Science) have small text in their printed versions.

Reading this page in PerfectViewer (With PFD Plugin) shows the regular body text as 9.5pt, without zoom.
For me, that's perfectly readable.
