[Q] Asus T300 - Hotspot - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to get this pad working with its own hotspot. Im looking to have it rooted and working on its own hotspot so I dont have to use the wifi.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. The only way of connecting to the internet on this tablet is via wifi as it does not have 3G/4G built in.

Now that you mentioned it, is it normal that my tf300 has settings for 3g? There's even a signal bar (registering empty of course) beside the battery.

Asus is supposed to release a 3g (and possibly LTE?) version at some point. I haven't heard when the release is rumored to be. One of the days when I was on Asus's support site downloading firmware files the tf300g appeared in the dropdown menu. Supposedly thats the 3g version.

I think that both versions will appear since they are clearly mentioned in the users manual. Not sure when.

[Q] 3g usb for asus eee?

ok so i have a 3g wireless card i use with my asus eee 1000 and i was wondering if i could plug in a 3g usb into the asus eee pad and be able to use the internet anywhere? i know that you can tether your phone and stuff but i dont have a fancy phone and i dont have a data plan to use my phone as a motem. i was wondering if anyone knew yes or no, or if someone could test that for me and any others out there wondering if this works?
if you have a 3g wireless card why not try it yourself? Or do you not have a transformer?

In most cases unless the the device is just drawing power from usb port, you need a driver.
When you had the unit plugged into your primary device did you or it launch software to get it to work?

OK first, post everything you can about the card here. Name model revision number ect. Someone here might have a solution.
Second do a google search for android and your unit.
Third email the manufacturer of device and Asus asking your question.
If the device can be powered on via USB and not require client software, that is, it acts like a wifi router, then yes it will work.

In the UK you can get something called a MiFi which is owned by three mobile, and its basically a battery operated wifi router. Stick your 3g sim card in it, and it operates as a 5 device infrastructure wifi network which shares the 3g connection. Its currently locked by three but you can by unlocked ones from eBay for about £60... works well
ya i dont have the mifi thing, but i do have my pc that has bluetooth built into it and im thinking if you can tether to your phone to use it for wireless and my pc can tether to the andriod then bingo i can use the wireless thru my comp and bluetooth tether the android device to it and bam wireless anywhere maybe a friend of mine just got it so maybe i can ask her to test that theory out ill let you know if it works
lg 2100ti turbo 3g usb
i have an att Lg 2100ti turbo 3g usb stick and a transfrer. i am intrested in a way to use it for a 3g connection. i saw that someone made a kernal mod to android 3.2 to get a USB ethernet device to work. anyone have any sucess with a 3g modem? Would this be simular to the usb switch for devian / umbuntu? to enable USBSerial?

Can I use the Transformer as an access point for my phone?

I own a Samsung Infuse which has terrible Wifi strength. I have to be in the same room as the router in order for it to connect.
Is there anyway that I can use my Transformer as a hotspot while its connected to my network so my phone can connect to the Transformer?
No, cant be host and client at the same time.

How is that possible? Unless your TF is 3G capable, once you turn the TF wifi hotspot on it shut off the WiFi connection.
I can tether my TF to my Nexus 1 but not the other way around.
are you on latest firmware? I saw something in another thread about it, but its definitely an option here and worked when I tested it!

SIM Card

Forgive me now because I know this has been posted somewhere already. I am on my work computer and these outdated browers will not show the search box.
The user manual for the TF300T states something about SIM card installation and..well I just dont see it. Am I missing something or did ASUS lie?
That only applies to the TF300TG (3G GSM model) and the TF300TL (LTE model). They just printed a single manual for all the models since they're practically the same.
Hi The TF300T does not have a 3G radio so no sim card slot
only th TF300TG has the 3G radio and a sim slot
Jules
Sorry did see the first reply
So yea What he said
Got it, thanks.

Does the TF300TG have GSM capability ? Or it just 3G data ?

only 3g data and sms, the capability for voice is there but nobody has hacked it yet.
as a workaround you can get voice by using google voice or other similar apps, even under 3g (but with most of those apps you need to install manually the package as play store wont let you download it)

Thanks for your answer. I currently do not know if I am going to buy a galaxy Tab 2 10" or a TF300T 3G for Xmas.
The Galaxy Tab 2 has already the GSM capability... so good start for this one. On the other side, the dock is quite nice on the Asus... so I would prefer this one actually !
Any idea if the GSM will come soon in the TF300T 3G, or we are far from hacking it yet ?

Nexus 5 does not support tethering?

I have heard that nexus 5 does not support tethering. Could anyone who has a nexus 5 at hand test it?
Isn't it more of a software than hardware feature. All of my phones have had WiFi tethering thanks to AOKP.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Teathering is a native option, and has been for quite a while... nothings changed in 4.4. Jeeeenx is right it is a software thing, so some carriers choose to disable it. Technically I'm not allowed to do it on my contract, but the carrier has no way of knowing if you do or not.

Yup its software. Every phone has had WiFi tethering, it was even built into the stock ROM.

Yes you can. You can set-up USB tethering, Bluetooth tethering, and also setup portable wi-fi hotspot
I hope so. However, i got this info from reliable source so i just want to see whether anyone has tried that or not. I am guessing google intentionally disabled it or it is not ready for kitkat?
There's usually an app for that.

The google n5/kit kat demo video from the UK (Androidizen? or similar ) , showed the same tethering/hotspot feature we have on our google Gnex and n4.

5Ghz Wifi Tethering?
Question, has anyone tried Wifi tethering on the 5GHz band? In 4.3 and lower tethering only worked on 2.4Ghz no matter what I set the phone to use... just wondering if this changed at all in KitKat?

Official 6.0.1 ota and now can not sms on original nst

So I grabbed the ota, all seemed good enough but I am unable to get SMS to work through hangouts or messaging apps. Says SMS is disabled. I've poked around in the various app permissions and uninstalled reinstalled etc......att all access stock app is and has been disabled since kk...all grayed out can not be enabled either. I use a mvno as a carrier but it was great on km and lp before. My 4g connection works pretty good though. Any body got some ideas as to wtf is going on?
Update, I have always had my att all access bloatware disabled but since I was making no headway otherwise I enabled it but it did not improve my ability to text, sadly I have not found a way to disable it again?. Still no joy texting since the update!

Update2 had the carrier, Consumer Cellular, bounce my line and still no SMS. I have also confirmed another original shield tablet who took the ota and has CC as a carrier is also without SMS. Who else is having this issue? I have left feedback via the tablet to Nvidia.

Bump again! So how about confirming that your US LTE Nvidia shield tablet is texting just fine on the new 4.1. , 6.0.1? I can't believe I am the only SMS user in the USA! At least on stock firmware.

I cannot help you as my T-Mobile Free 200MB for Life does not allow me to send texts, however I do receive incoming texts from T-Mobile occasionally when I go over the limit or plan renews.
Here is a theory. Perhaps the US LTE ROM is missing something crucial for SMS. Now, I have never installed the US LTE Marshmallow ROM, but on Lollipop, the US ROM was missing the AOSP Messaging app that comes with the RoW ROM.
If the US LTE Marshmallow ROM is still missing the Messaging app, perhaps try flashing the RoW LTE ROM and see if that fixes the problem. There is evidence that AT&T cripples functionality on things they touch.
It is true that ATT is a scourge. I had used 8sms and hangouts effectively previously. Would like to stay on the stock ota for my device but travel around the world quite a bit and really must have my unlocked device function as one! My sims that I use around the world did allow it and so does my MVNO here in the states! Thanks for he status of at least receiving a text from T-Mobile. Was it on us or row rom? I can't receive them either let alone send.

I flashed the RoW LTE ROM on my US LTE tablet, so I'm still pretty much stock, just without the AT&T garbage and delays

Curious. What ROM did you flash on your device?

I flashed the Full RoW-LTE 4.2 ROM. You can flash/adb sideload using TWRP on top of any previously installed ROM. Just make sure you have the official TWRP 3.0.2-2 installed first as this version is compatible with all bootloaders and fixes the touchscreen delay bug.
