As a G2X user, I was very happy to root and go to CM7.1.0.1. I have always preferred stock Android to anything bloated or UI'd. While not a power user, I do like the customization options that CM makes available. I have also been eagerly awaiting ICS builds for the phone. Which leads me to my question:
Which build(s) would you recommend trying? Any of the ones below not fit the description? I don't mind trying multiple builds, I just don't want to go down any rabbit holes unnecessarily.
EB 4.0.3 (CM based)
EB 4.0.4 (AOSP)
AOKP
Last question - and it may be a dumb one: Do I need any specific kernel, or does it flash w/ the ROM? After CM7, I went to faux123 so I could OC...
TIA

That's just using my phone and the app, on a computer I can find 5-10 threads. Just search ics in general & Q/A, read the threads a little.

I'm personally fond of AOKP with the customizations it has and I'm not having many issues with it, always flash the latest OC version of harshes kernels also

Hellfire sandwich or AOKP.. and both with harsh kernel is the way to go
Eb 4.0.4 aosp
I am having great luck the EB 4.0.4. Only issue is the Wifi calling is a bit wonky at times. No bloat and few customizations. Very different from CM7 but fast and smooth.
I started out on CM7.1.0.1 then moved to EB 4.0.3 (CM based) before making the switch to EB 4.0.4 (AOSP) Currently on their 2.5 build.
I really liked all the options that CM7 had built into it but I was more interested in getting ICS loaded up on my phone. With EB 4.0.3 (CM based) you do retain many of the things that you had with CM7 but I found it a little buggy for my liking.
Though you do lose some of the built in CM7 tweaks using EB's AOSP ROM, it seems to run much smoother. And in the end you can still do a lot with apps.
Suggestion? Turn into a nutter and try them all

Did you really tell somebody that has to ask how to get to GB to try ICS?
ICS is beta, at best -- if you want a "daily driver" I'd stick with a GB-based ROM (other than CM7 beta) at least until the "known issues" list with CM7, CM9, AOKP, and the like is much shorter.
Not a beta at all man! Ever since the last few builds of both CM9 and AOKP we've had very stable bases. I've been using AOKP since Whitehawk released his 2nd build as my daily driver.
Haven't tried any ics based roms yet, but cm7 is very stable and i haven't run into any problems with it

I use ICS as my daily driver, I don't need FFC and all the other stuff that people use.....Also going from GB to ICS isn't that hard....
As long he learns to get to GB, he should not need to do much more to get to ICS.

I second this. I've been using CM9 Release 0.3 ever since it came out and I haven't gotten a single freeze or random reboot yet. Battery life has been pretty good as well. I think our phone's ICS ROMs are certainly stable enough to be used as a daily driver!
Hi,
I see that its a while since that question has been posted ..So i'm asking it again.
I'd like to know which rom running ICS you guys like the most as i just got my Rogers SII LTE.
Also which modem you run (Rogers users).
Thanx for your posts and feedbacKs.

I would also recommend cm9. Its what I have the wife running on her Skyrocket and I've heard zero complaints, which is actually really surprising coming from her!

Haven't tried the venom kernel but I've got Instigators kernel loaded over cm9 on wife's Skyrocket and she loves it. She's very picky about things working right, so her silence is a very good indicator that its a good rom/kernel combo

I've been rockin seans sky ics roms since the very first ics leak, and his dragon base ( completely stripped down version with flashable zips for almost everything he took out) on the official AT&T build is second to none in my opinion. He updates very frequently so he keeps my savage need for flashing fulfilled
-typed erratically from my hacked and customized GS2 SR
Embryo 4.1
Embryo 4.1 has been my favorite, least buggy rom.. but I'd recommend running it with the stock kernel and not Cymbaline. I've seen a couple of users have issues with battery life using Cymbaline kernel, including myself.
CM9 RC2 with stock kernel, running perfectly on both a i727r and i9000m
I also run Embryo 4.1 and absolutely love it. The developer did a nice job with this ROM, nothing half baked and does update it. No bugs, very fast, battery is good and lots of features.
Is there anybody using Paranoid?
..So far i find it pretty good.
Any feedback?

I am moving from Valhalla ROM and w'd like to ask for an expert opinion... Which one of the ROMs is 100% stable and bug free at the moment?
Not even stock GB is bug free. Here's a list of custom roms for you though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
This question makes sense to me after flashing ROM's for different model phones. Though I will say our Dev's to a fantastic job explaining the ROM's in the OP and keeping the OP's detailed and up-to-date compared to the other forums I've used.
This is - in my opinion - the ROM with the least potential for issues, amazing battery life with great performance:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26464204
Even the GB ROMs (and especially the stock one) weren't "rock stable" by any stretch.
Most of the ICS ROMs that I have looked at are using the TeamAcid kernel. The stability of those are all going to be about the same as the changes tend to be in what is included or not, and the UI theming. Pick your flavor. I have been using AOKP for about a month now as a daily driver and find it more stable than the GB ROMs, the way I use my phone.
I personally prefer the KG4 modem over the KJ6 modem as it handles long SMS messages
sorry, too bad you cant flash anything. It is too unstable. Just Kidding LOL/
I'd flash a GB rom before ICBINB was made, because the reduced slim roms seem to be unstable for me. I'd stay on valhalla

HellFire 2.4
Hey ALL! I signed up just to say this. I have been rooting and flashing custom roms for a while now. I can't give ALL devs enough credit for all there great work. I my self have the T-Mobile G2x. Stock was great but when i started flashing it opened up a whole new world for me. Now for the important part. Two days ago i flashed the new HellFire 2.4 rom, and its FANTASTIC!! It is by far the BEST rom for the G2x in my opinion. Especially since its using Faux's newest kernel. HellFire 2.3 had some issues with the battery overheating so i switched to a tweaked CM7 rom and flashed Faux's kernel to it. But it seams that the great guys in Hell have fixed the problem in v2.4 and the rom SCREAMS! IF YOU HAVE A G2X AND YOU DONT WANNA SETTLE FOR THE STOCK 2.0 ROM ANY LONGER I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HELLFIRE 2.4!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! SEE YOU ALL IN HELL!!!!

Why is there no links to the latest CyanogenMod CM7 Roms in the current Rom list.
Contrary to most of the other listed Roms these are still updated (monthly) and seem to work quite well..

Thanks, I have experienced as a newcomer that threads like yours with the various ROMs, kernels etc. listed are very helpfull.
I just thought it odd that one of the basic ROMs and one that still gets updates is not mentioned much in the G2x threads.
Ok so since ive fixed my s 4g from soft brickdom i rooted it and its installed with a cwm-based voodoo lagfix recovery v5.0.2.7, now im looking to install a custom rom but im not sure what one to use, id prefer an ics based rom since in order to go online i need wifi on this phone and the jb roms seem to have wifi issues, so i would like to have working wifi and better battery life, which rom would be best.

Is that so? Well then would a jb rom be better? Im looking for something to increase the functionality a bit, i like playing games and whatnot on it, but i seem to get a serious slap of lag on some of the games now and again, like i said though im running on just rooted, i used titanium backup to remove a bunch of the bloatware, so im not sure if i have to flash in another rom then upgrade to a jb rom or whatnot, the last phone i did anything this deep with was a g1, lol so with these newer phones im kinda a noob
I really liked cyanogenmod 9.1. It was smooth, nearly bug-less (most of the bugs don't really effect the daily users). The lag on games was gone unless you're playing a really demanding 3D game.
This is what I'm currently using:
