[Q] Acer A500 rooted... now what? - General Questions and Answers

Sorry for yet another "now what" question, but...
I rooted my A500 using the Blackthund3r one-click. I didn't check a box (that was unreadable) that I believe had something to do with recovery...
Anyway, now it's rooted, has SuperUser and Titanium Backup installed. Android ver 4.0.3; Kernel ver 2.6.39.4+; Image ver Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1; Build# Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
The question is - what is this good for now? Apparently I can't overclock until someone cooks a custom kernel and I still can't install apps to SD. On top of that, it actually seems a little glitchy now with screen anomalies and random hangups.
I'm using the stock rom... would doing a recovery backup, wiping and installing a custom rom at least allow me overclocking? Or any performance gain?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

[Q] ROM and recovery issue after successful rooting

Hi everyone.. first post here.
I just successfully rooted my Nexus S (GT-I9020T, 2.3.4, GRJ22) using adb, recovery clockwork herring and su 2.3.6.1.
ROM Manager is working fine but I do have a couple of issues.
The recovery doesn't always stick and reverts back to the stock one from time to time (I have to flash again then from inside ROM Manager). Which could be a problem due to the next issue..
I've been trying to install some ROMs (Cynogen for instance) but in one version I get a looping boot screen and in an other it keeps going to the recovery screen. Luckily, it's the right one and I can restore a backup. I'm afraid it might revert to the stock recovery at some point and screw me.
Any thoughts on this?
I should have read some more threads first..
I fixed the recovery issue by renaming install-recover.sh using Root Explorer
So I guess I should just experiment to find good ROMs now.
Can anyone suggest a good ROM? I'm looking for improved battery use, slimmed down system, needs email apps (all google apps probably)
Sorted it all out (mount/unmount, delete caches, etc.)
It's working swimmingly now.
Running Cynogenmod 7 and loving it.
I am using Infinity 1.0.0, stable, fast and great battery life, it is a 2.3.4 rom

Did Revolution HD 3.4.2 flash properly?

I rooted my TF101 the other night and installed Revolution HD 3.4.2 via the method here (including using Superwipe).
I have previously rooted and flashed ROMs on two Android phones (Droid 1 & Rezound), so I thought I had some idea what to expect, but was shocked, when my tablet re-booted, to see that virtually nothing had changed. My homescreen was exactly as it was before I rooted, with all the widgets functioning, and all of my Folder organizer shortcuts in place. All of my apps were installed, and with all of their data intact. My Tasker scripts were running, the tablet automatically connected to my WIFI, and the tablet is buggy in all the ways that made me want to root and install a ROM in the first place. If it didn't say "Android Revolution HD 3.4.2 by mike1986" at Settings/About tablet/Build number, I'd think that neither the wipe nor the flash had been successful.
How is this possible? Has something gone wrong, or is flashing a ROM on a Transformer a radically different experience than on a Droid or a Rezound? All input is appreciated.

Well ARHD is just an optimised version of the stock rom, so the homescreen, the widgets and the lags will still be there. Concerning the data, think you used the Superwipe LITE script who just erase the system data.
So well, if you want to get rid of the bugs of the stock version, you can use an AOKP version who is completely separated from the stock rom. But there will be other lags and some functions will be missing. Personnally I use the team EOS rom with cornerstone what is the best rom for me.
At your place I would test a few ROMs (backup before) and see wich is best!
Sandmann.
Flash a better kernel....should help smooth it out and give you adjustable CPU speeds to pick from. Use no frills CPU (free from the playstore) to control the kernel.
See the harmony thread and guevor thread.

Voodoo lagfix

Hi guys and gals hopefully someone can help me out here. I'm new to android and the language so forgive me for any mistakes I've made haha. So I put voodoo lagfix plus voodoo sound kernel on my phone. It was for 2.2 and I am on 2.3.4. I don't have enough posts to insert links nut if you Google easy lag fix mesmerize its the one on android authority. Anyhow I did not use sgs flasher I just did the cwm recovery apply from SD after wiping cache and dalvik. Rebooted and it was great quadrant was at 2200 and everything was smooth. Then later that day I was curious as to see what my CPU was running so I went to SetCPU to see. It just went to a black screen that could be exited by hitting home. I checked all my root access apps and they did the same thing except for nandroid browser and root checker. Root checker says system running slow and never reaches a conclusion. So I disabled lagfix in cwm recovery and rebooted. It went through and disabled it and started back but apps all behave the same. I do have full access to superuser. What could cause this? Would removing voodoo fix this and if so could someone give or point me to a step by step tut?
Would flashing a new kernel remove the voodoo kernel?
Just to clarify if you haven't already solved your problem.
1.What phone are you using?
2. what Rom or Radio are you on?
3. and which kernel.did you flash?
My Mesmerize is running Awesome Sauce 10.5 & there are a handful of compatable Kernels (I use KGB kernel w/ app).

Kernel not flashing with revolver 4.2

Few questions after installing Revolver 4.2...
I try to install Guevor's 22.6 kernel, it goes through the process and it says complete. I reboot and the kernel still says 2.6.39.4 android @mars. What am I doing wrong?
Also when I tried to install the kernel through Revolver Parts, it doesn't download the file into sdcard/Downloads. I couldn't find it anywhere so I had to download it manually.
Also, am I able to boot my system so it automatically loads the rom? Everytime I boot it automatically loads into CWM and you have to manually get it to boot. Anyway around this?
Finally, can someone explain overclocking real quick to me? Can I overclock on this android @ mars kernel? (If guevor's works, I'd do it on that). I thought I could go on SetCPU and just change the clock speed to whatever I wanted (1.5GHZ for example). Instead there are two filters, one that is maxed at 1GHz and the other at 200MHz. What would the equivalent of 1.5GHz to set both bars accordingly?
I would REALLY appreciate if someone could help me out, total NOOB lol.
short answers:
its not an overclockable kernel then
and
if you can Nv Flash a rom and recovery then its probably the easiest way to resolve the cwr loop.
if you used rom manager then i would advise not doing that ever ever again on the Tf. (just a guess)
Read me and if you get it resolved with Peri then remember to thank Thing of Doom.

I just read that Guevor's 22.6 is a stable kernel. Even if I don't overclock it, it should replace the stock kernel no?
And yeah I used ROM manager to install the latest version, why would it mess it up? What is "Nv Flash"?
Okay got everything working. Transformer boots perfectly, new recovery works a lot better, installed the kernel and have it clocked to 1.5GHz
Thanks again!
BTW- Uninstalled ROM Manager :silly:

New, not sure what the status of my tablet is.

Hello,
I am very new to rooting and custom roms so i followed a guide to use cwm to try and root the tablet which didn't work. I was able to install cwm with no issues but when i tried to apply XpLoDWilD root-signed.zip file it would install but when I would reboot with cwm it would say that i would possibly lose root and give me an option to fix root which i would select and then the tablet would reboot and i would use a root check that would say i didn't have root. I wanted to use CWM backup feature before i did any custom roms but i was unable to get a successful backup with cwm. I used cwm to flash CleanRom Inheritance 3.03 onto the tablet and then used a root checker and finally got a successful root result but then i once again tried to backup my tablet using CWM and was unsuccessful again. So I want to know what will happen if I were to do a wipe data/factory reset within CWM or while I am booted into the android OS. I was able to do a titanium backup and copied the titanium backup folder to my mircosd card. Is there anything I need to watch out for or any other backup method i need to do on my tablet?
If you already have a Custom Recovery why the hack you want to stay on original Stock?
CleanRom is twice as good and Stock related, rooted and if you flash a kernel after even OC.
If you really like to root stock there is a superuser file somewere out here called Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed. This should do the trick. But as I wrote before with this you will have a VW Beatle with Clean you have a Porsche
I agree. Not flashing a custom rooted ROM is, IMO, a waste of a good tablet. I was amazed at the increase in performance after flashing the 2.54 version of Paranoid Android with the OCed Untermensch kernel.
I do like the custom cleanrom

I do want to keep my custom rom but was worried about making sure I have the os backed up properly in case i need to do a re-install or something. Is titanium backup enough to get me fully restored incase something happened to my tablet?

What steps did you take to OC your tablet? I installed Clemsyn's kernal 1.3-1.8Ghz OC kernal and used No frills CPU to play around with OC settings but haven't notice too much of a performance jump. I also made sure the asus was put in performance mode. Do you have any suggestions on roms, kernel, and no frills cpu settings i should use to get a good performance boost?
I'm running Paranoid Android v2.54 with a modified version Of Unters kernel that can be found in the first 2 posted of the thread. You must use the version That Keegan modified. Read the OP and second post to find the link to the kernel. The ROM has a built in performance settings that allows adjusting of the speed and I/O. I really like the ROM. It works great with my dock too. It has many extra settings that the other ROMs do not have. Read the thread well.
Here the link to it. Keep in mind that there is a beta version also. I am not running that version.

Thanks a lot for the info I will definitely try this rom especially since i have a dock as well. I really love this tablet.
Correction..... The Untermensch kernel is located in the 3 post under EXTRAS, not the 2nd post.
