[Q] Best all around camera settings - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have been having some issues with the autofocus either focusing too much or not enough as well as some of the photos not coming out as good as they should be. I read somewhere that a lot of that could be fixed by adjusting the settings. So what settings do you guys have your HTC One X camera settings set to for best all around pic n shoot?

I turn off face detection. Seems more responsive that way.
Everything else I leave the same

^ this
but I also have sharpness set to -1.

saturation -1 seems to give more realistic colors on mine

I knock down exposure to -1 when outside, seems to overexpose a little in hard light.

Very helpful thread, thanks guys

Thanks for tips. Much better.

saturation -1 didn't like the look of the other recommended settings.

I have noticed that too. In bright sunlight, sometimes faces get blown out (overexposed).

[Q] Camera resolution issue

Hi all -
I'm using the latest nightly of Cyanogen 7, but this issue has been present for a few months now. I keep hoping the latest nightly will fix it, but I'm starting to worry that it's a hardware issue.
It's gritty and just very low quality overall. Is this a known issue? Or did my camera get messed up somehow.
Thanks for the help!
It isn't letting me post a link to the image, but I can shoot you a link if you're willing to help.
Try and install MIUI camera onto it.

Can't find it in the market. Any chance I can get a link?

I tried the MIUI camera, still seems pretty grainy
Oh how long have that been happening?

Just looked back to a picture I took at the end of February and its pretty grainy. It seems to have been getting worse and worse though.
Can you post a picture?

I can after approximately 8 posts :\. This is post 5. I'll PM you tho.

If your pics are grainy in low light, then that is normal. The camera in this phone is not the greatest in low light situations. If outdoor/brightly lit pics are grainy, then something is probably wrong with your camera sensor.
alright and have you tried a different ROM and see if that worked?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Well I started with Revolution (with Sense) and then moved to Cyanogen. I checked photos back to when I probably had Rev and they were still grainy.
I just checked some of the outdoor photos I've taken. The ones where there's ample light turn out pretty well, but when its a bit overcast or in the woods it's still pretty crappy.
Guess I just have to deal with it.
Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.
I would suggest playing around with the White balance, ISO, and metering mode. I've been able to improve the low light quality of most of my pictures.
currently using MIUI Camera with nice results. might want to try using another camera app like camera360

Poor up close pictures

Hi all,
Got a slight issue here, not sure if i'm not doing it right but i have tried all kinds of settings and nothing worked.
Anyway, heres what happened...... A butterfly flew into our work and was bugging everyone pretty much all day it eventually landed pretty much right next to me and i wanted to test out the macro on this phone, so i switched to close up and attempted to take a picture but it just came out all blurry, so i changed to different combinations of settings, always getting the same results, it kept focusing past perfection to blurriness??
Either way it was really annoying, I don't actually give a **** about butterflies i just wanted to be able to take a pic up close?
I'm running coredroid at the moment however i believe the camera is the native Sensation one. ??
Any ideas?
I notice that too. It focuses amazingly, and then instantly goes blurry. You have to be a couple of inches away before the macro works.

Is there a decent guide for the sensation camera? I find this to be worse than the desire hd. E.g. if I take a picture of my dog with flash his eyes are always glowing (flash reflection) on the sensation, but never on the desire hd
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
The camera is good enough for a phone. Buy something dedicated for that kind of work. And never use flash for making pictures, ever.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Poor close up photographs is a general photography issue. Having trouble avoiding blurry photos up close goes for any type of photography when you're taking shots handheld. That said, I just tried the close-up setting on a wireless mouse and a pen, and at about 4 inches away I'm getting clear shots even though I'm in low light right now.

But my point is flash works great on the desire hd and it's shocking on the sensation. That's not how it should be!

You obviously don't know anything about photography. Flash is absolutely needed in cases where there is insufficient lighting. Otherwise the output will lack detail and be noisy. If the direct flash is too intense, you can always use a reflective surface to produce a softer lighting.
Are you using the macro setting for the camera?

Sensation Camera color Red isnt Red

Ok i just started to notice this, tried a few different ROMS and it all is the same.
Its coming around the holidays and i really dont want my pictures to come out violet red like they are now. Can someone help me?
I know this sounds funny but i dont think im color blinded.. think my camera is
Looks like u have set Saturation hig in Camera settings.. try taking pics with default settigns with all to Zero..
And little bit of saturation is present even with Normal settings but not that much...
If u thing ur pics are not taking contrast pics then change settings..
ive tried that buddy, nothing works.. think its a defect
Didn't read thread properly, but that does look weird :S
that doesn't look natural, i think its a defect as well. Mine does not show red like that.
mine is same way
the car and valve cover supposed to be red.
valve cover is freshly painted so its as clean as it can get but came out pink.

I have got exactly the same problem. Initially I thought it could be fixed with some white balance or saturation settings but it is simply unfixable!! I'm color blind but even I feel insulted by the way red looks on pictures. (It must be the camera because the same object captured with my Panasonic camera and sent to the sensation looks perfect).
I wonder if any of the camera ports/mods that the developers are doing will fix this.
I didn't knew about this until now that I was reading this post. I went and took some pictures of anything red I saw and it's true, red colors change to something like pink or a little less red. I hope this can be fixed. :/
I have tied to take photo with red object. It look fine on my device.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
The problem is the configuration of the self-illumination .. if you play with white balance, red will not look pink.
It's simple, Red + White = Pink
Pink on, stock camera, red on HDR+ camera.

all of these looked pink/cherry red to me instead of pure red..
this is what the valve cover should look like (color)
this is how it comes out on every picture regardless of lighting
heres the photos ive been looking for:
nottice also the quality is horrible on sensation even compared to less megapixeled HD2 camera.
first picture is taken with HD2 android
second picture is HTC sensation
a big difference

Camera/picture quality question?

When I'm looking at the screen before I take a picture its very vibrant and bright and the quality is amazing but when I capture it then view it there allways very dim, anyone have a solution?

I'm experiencing same issue. Just before I close it, it shows in true colors and disappears.
Same thing here. Only seems to do it while I'm using a rom that has the bravia engine though

In most cases, you have to learn how to use the camera. It's not a SLR system. What you see on the screen is not necessarily what you're going to capture. All the settings, and there are many of them... it's a pretty capable camera, in the camera menu are there for a reason. Leaving everything on "auto" is generally not the best way to approach photography. Experience is the best teacher. Learn what ISO, Exposure, White balance, Contrast, Scene mode, and two dozen other parameters do. It will help you get a great shot when you need one.
are the pictures affected? i'd assume not if everything on auto setting as mentioned above.
I played with the settings still dim pictures

Try increasing the brightness of the display. It should make the pictures look alot better.

I believe you may have misread the question. I think he is speaking of the brightness of the actual image, not it appearance in the gallery. The images are still dark when dumped to a computer. I believe the poster above has it correct to alter settings.
There is information in various reviews online that state that the camera functions well at either high or really low levels of light. If there is SOME light you're out of luck. I find this to be true with mine

The poster did not state that. He simply said it was dim when viewing it. I honestly had the same problem. Taking a picture and seeing how nice it looked but then when I went to look at it in the gallery it was dim. So I tried turning the brightness of the display up alil bit, it looked just as bright when I initially took the picture.

Oh I see. That picture is actually good tho. Here is one I took last weekend. The room was really really bright. The camera sensor on our phones need a decent amount of light for the picture to come out bright.
Sent from my White Skyrocket in Space
I only experience the issue when viewing in the Gallery, or immediately after taking the shot. When I turn auto-brightness off" they look exactly the same as they did on screen. As for dumping to the computer, I am not 100% but all of the ones uploaded to FB have been fine.
Yeah they ain't too great in dark rooms. But those pics look great. I compared some of my pics with my wife's 4s. She had to take the same pic several times to get it to show the detail mine showed with 1 shot

[Q] Camera Quality Question

Ok so i switched over to the One X from the Galaxy S3 for 4 main reasons, 1. When HTC finally is up to date with the source codes, this phone can most likely beat the S3, 2. The screen shows colors and looks a lot better, 3. The build quality over the S3, and 4. The camera. But after some use the camera isnt all that i was expecting unless im missing something, to me the camera doesnt seem as good as the comparison pictures and the pictures i havet taken with the S3 and One X. Any ideas on how to improve the camera capture quality?
Reduce saturation levels by -1.
Otherwise, pink seems like vibrant red and distorts a lot of colors.

For best quality use a custom ROM with the HQ camera mods that disable compression on the jpg and up the bit rate on the video.

This will not fix the pathetic default color settings nor will it fix the incorrect calibration of the preset white balance options. I must say that as nice a phone as the hox is the camera is a rather disgraceful dud and an egg in their face. As pointed out earlier reducing saturation by -1 take the state of the camera from useless (skin looks like cooked shrimp) to merely atrocious. HTC really needs to fix that pronto, and the problem is somewhere in the demosaicing and color conversion algorithms.
I love the camera on the One X.
