Hi all -
I'm using the latest nightly of Cyanogen 7, but this issue has been present for a few months now. I keep hoping the latest nightly will fix it, but I'm starting to worry that it's a hardware issue.
It's gritty and just very low quality overall. Is this a known issue? Or did my camera get messed up somehow.
Thanks for the help!
It isn't letting me post a link to the image, but I can shoot you a link if you're willing to help.
Try and install MIUI camera onto it.

Can't find it in the market. Any chance I can get a link?

I tried the MIUI camera, still seems pretty grainy
Oh how long have that been happening?

Just looked back to a picture I took at the end of February and its pretty grainy. It seems to have been getting worse and worse though.
Can you post a picture?

If your pics are grainy in low light, then that is normal. The camera in this phone is not the greatest in low light situations. If outdoor/brightly lit pics are grainy, then something is probably wrong with your camera sensor.
alright and have you tried a different ROM and see if that worked?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Well I started with Revolution (with Sense) and then moved to Cyanogen. I checked photos back to when I probably had Rev and they were still grainy.
I just checked some of the outdoor photos I've taken. The ones where there's ample light turn out pretty well, but when its a bit overcast or in the woods it's still pretty crappy.
Guess I just have to deal with it.
Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.
I would suggest playing around with the White balance, ISO, and metering mode. I've been able to improve the low light quality of most of my pictures.
currently using MIUI Camera with nice results. might want to try using another camera app like camera360

Hey guys/gals,
I would like to ask someone or even a couple of you if you could do me a quick favor.
The HTC Thunderbolt has an 8mp camera. I would like someone, to put the camera on its best possible settings, highest quality in everything, with good lighting, and snap a picture.
You can even post it for me if you wish. All im looking for is the file size in which your picture is after it has been saved.
Im just doing a quick study on the 8mp camera phones available, and would like your help....and you help is very appreciated!
Thanks!!!
it is 1.1 MB
Mine ranged from about 1.4 to about 2.8 MB. HTH

Just a little insight I actually find that the thunderbolt has a great camera. My 5 mp camera on my Droid 2 was pretty bad. The pictures were grainy and usually not even worth taking. On this I find myself taking pictures all of the time.

Using the EV+/- control properly will greatly increase the quality of your photos. I have sample shots if your interested...not from your phones, but the feature would work the same on any camera.
Hi all,
Got a slight issue here, not sure if i'm not doing it right but i have tried all kinds of settings and nothing worked.
Anyway, heres what happened...... A butterfly flew into our work and was bugging everyone pretty much all day it eventually landed pretty much right next to me and i wanted to test out the macro on this phone, so i switched to close up and attempted to take a picture but it just came out all blurry, so i changed to different combinations of settings, always getting the same results, it kept focusing past perfection to blurriness??
Either way it was really annoying, I don't actually give a **** about butterflies i just wanted to be able to take a pic up close?
I'm running coredroid at the moment however i believe the camera is the native Sensation one. ??
Any ideas?
I notice that too. It focuses amazingly, and then instantly goes blurry. You have to be a couple of inches away before the macro works.

Is there a decent guide for the sensation camera? I find this to be worse than the desire hd. E.g. if I take a picture of my dog with flash his eyes are always glowing (flash reflection) on the sensation, but never on the desire hd

The camera is good enough for a phone. Buy something dedicated for that kind of work. And never use flash for making pictures, ever.

Poor close up photographs is a general photography issue. Having trouble avoiding blurry photos up close goes for any type of photography when you're taking shots handheld. That said, I just tried the close-up setting on a wireless mouse and a pen, and at about 4 inches away I'm getting clear shots even though I'm in low light right now.

But my point is flash works great on the desire hd and it's shocking on the sensation. That's not how it should be!

You obviously don't know anything about photography. Flash is absolutely needed in cases where there is insufficient lighting. Otherwise the output will lack detail and be noisy. If the direct flash is too intense, you can always use a reflective surface to produce a softer lighting.
Are you using the macro setting for the camera?
Hello, I am using cm7 the photos in the gallary will no longer take that time to focus and clear up. They stay pixelated. I updated my gallary.apk to a newer version and I am fairly positive this is the culprit. Also the order of my photos has been reversed chronologically. Does anyone know of any fixes or where i can find another gallery.apk that works well.
Thank you!

what would the gallery have to do with how the camera takes photos? I've never used CM7 strictly just ROMs using CM7 as a base but if the cameras are the same, make sure in the settings you have either pre-focus turned on or long focus turned on.
Its nothing to do with the camera. It is when I bring up an image in my gallery or browsing the web they no longer autofocus with the full version of the image.

Thank you.

The cm7 gallery kinda sucks. Use quickpic instead. 1000x's better.. free too, Give it a shot..
*Kingpin... get it?*
3D gallery from the market was my fix and it is the same as stock cm I think. Thanks guys.

i recently downloaded hdr camera+ and found it to be really great compared to stock camera app. it gives pictures with more saturated colors and more contrast while earlier they used to be dull.
anyone else using this app or some other camera app that's really useful.?

few apps
u might (must) know abt these ...
paper camera, Instagram, ICS camera, camera HD
try these if u hvn't
i've used these except for 'camera hd' (which i couldn't find on google play). used ics camera few months back and found it to be slightly better than stock. didn't use instagram more than 2-3 times. and paper camera is a diff. kind of app altogether, though it's really a good one. can u give me link to camera hd.

I bought it about 4 months ago....its the only camera I use on phone. This thing makes the pic stand out so much more than any other app. I love it.

Ill have to try that. I know MP doesn't really mean **** but damn this camera sucks.

Ones I've looked at:
ProCapture & Camera Zoom FX - Straightforward, some extra customazation in the form of exposure settings in the former and effects in the latter
Camera FV-5 - The closest you'll get to a DSLR in terms of manual settings
Night Camera - Optimized for low light shots
HDR camera - The title says it all
Camera Streak - Lightpainting!
Fast Burst Camera - Shoot tens of exposure per seconds, great for action/sports
Haven't tried half of those yet though
I have camera zoomFX and its great. My pics have the same amount of detail as my friends GS2

Hey, I'm running paranoid android v20 and my camera just won't focus properly. Every photo I take in the regular app is either barely out of focus, and it doesn't adjust, or is in great focus but then it makes it completely out of focus/blurry and takes the shot! Ugh. I have Camera zoom FX in the meantime and that works, but I want to use the standard app. Any ideas?

Have you tried reflashing the rom? Or is there any possibility at the installation or a separate zip to reflash only the camera app? Or have you tried a different kernel?
No. I guess I could reflash gapps. It's weird though. I just took a few blurry photos and I looked in the gallery and they weren't blurry at all. Good, but why doesn't it display like that while snapping the photo? I can't know quickly if it was clear or not. :-\
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
I never experienced that on paranoid Android myself, maybe try reflashing and see if that helps. Best wishes.

Don't worry about it, each photo I take it displays as blurry, but in gallery they are fine.
Note: I have the 4.2 Transformation Pack
