What hardware serial version did you get? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

This seems to be a topic of interest in the One X forum pertaining to hardware quality problems. HT23, HT24, etc.

HT24

You think the batches realeased today will be different then those that got them a week early?

Maybe but likely not, depends on when HTC started producing the XL. Since the X was sold first, XL serial versions here might have some corollary with issues experienced by One X owners.

HT24 as well

There's no relationship between build date (or Taiwan vs. China) and random QC issues for the international One X. There are perfect HT23's and sucky HT24's. And gray vs. white doesn't matter either because the guts of the phone are all the same and are mated to the shell during the last step in assembly. Keep in mind the majority of issues with the international version are related to Teg3 graphics which you guys don't need to worry about. The biggest pure QC issue is the way the guts and display are set in the shell where there are occasionally gaps or parts of the screen that aren't flush with the body. The cool vs. warm display applies but that’s not really an issue; more a choice by HTC to source from two different vendors.

Just a few questions

I'm totally going to upgrade to a One phone. I'm on T-Mobile, and I'm kinda sad we won't get the MOA black version. But I'm curious, aside from its strength what other advantages will the MOA get compared to the Grey anodized version?
I'm case I decided to get the One X, will either of those versions get T-Mobile faster 4G?
And correct me if I'm wrong but.. The One X and One S here in the US is practically the same phone, the only difference being screen type and size (obviously resolution) and battery??
Also, I love the screen on my brothers Galaxy S 4G, is the One S similar, worse or better than that?
Does the T-Mobile version have dual microphone? One regular and one noise canceling?
Sorry, but no the One S and the One X aren't even close. The S uses an S4 chip, while the One X uses the Tegra3. Now if you meant the AT&T version (which is the One XL), then they are the same other than the screen type/size, battery, and I think the XL will still have 32GB memory unlike the 16GB on the S. Of course I'm half asleep making this post so please forgive me if I was/am wrong on any of that. As far as the mic goes I'm not sure.
On a side note I hate the fact T-Mobile isn't getting the MAO version.
I think the one xl, has a dual core processor, not sure of that, but I think i heard it somewhere. If that's true, i recommend de one s, as it's cheaper, and still an awesome phone.

Yeah I was referring to the One XL. I seriously hope the One S does have dual microphones. That would at least save it a bit from lack of MOA

I'm on Tmobile USA. The more I debate between the One S and the One XL. The more I lean towards the One XL which should work on Tmobile. One XL has an HD screen and a bigger screen over the One S. Plus the Front Facing camera is a tad better on the One XL.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
I'm on T-Mobile too, and the only reason I'm considering getting the One S is due to price. I have an extra line on my account. My mom wants to put my dad in my account so that the whole family will be in my account. Obviously the phone would be way cheaper, especially if I go to Sams club or Costco.
If I get the One X I'm paying full retail, and there's no guarantee they'll sell it to me the week it is released cause they give preference to their customers or new customers.
Not to mention, don't know how long it'll take for them to get me an unlock code.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G XE with Beats Audio using XDA
I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's using the same TI wifi chip as the Amaze. That really hindered dev. on that phone since HTC isn't releasing the source for that.
How do we know that we are not getting the black version?
Alright I work at T-Mobile and my boss has a friend in tmobile that actually had a meeting with a HTC guy and he even held the one s he told me wonders about it but he also told me that in 2-4 months from release the black one will actually come to tmobile and that it was already confirmed so Id rather wait for the black one
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA

folks that sounds crazy.. waitin for a device for about several months just for another color?! i can understand that this is important - i personally would never buy the silver one, luckily living in Germany where it's no prob to get the black one - but in this case: i would order it somewhere else or live with it

i probably would not wait 2-3 month for the black version over the grey one myself however i can understand if someone does! first of all it's not only the color (and the more beautiful look) but also the texture and improved durability. if someone wants to keep the phone for 2 years maybe waiting 2 more month and actually get what you want might not be so crazy ... aside from that i consider myself also lucky living in a country wher the black unlocked version is already available
I can completely understand that it's an issue. just as mentioned: i wouldn't buy the gradient metal version either. but since i'm quite impatient i would definitely try ANY workaround but ok, i'm quite lucky not having to deal with this.. hope for you guys over there, that t-mobile is a bit quicker
Just to b clear we are all preety much coworkers I was just emphazising on the fact that it is someone ranked up to be tmobile's manager of all the tmobile dealers in my area he's not just a tmo sales rep like me and I dont even like my boss that much anyways

Why I should have avoided HTC ONE X (AT&T)

This is the first time i am writing a post against an innovation, first of all i would like to mention that i like HTC ONE X that i own since May 2012 from AT&T, so this is not a hate post its more of an really upset post. HTC according to its promises during launch of one series was supposed to provide constant updates and bug fix for a group of satisfied customers, but it started making them unhappy once again when they were not releasing issues related to Wifi and calls with One X. After the release of Samsung S3 and Iphone 5 the company forgot its promises and stepped back and again changed their primary focus from Android to Windows, releasing a few window phones in Oct 2012 after iphone. Then they made a very huge mistake by releasing the HTC ONE X+ last week, where the specs of the phone are amazing for US market, but forgot to think about the 4 milllion users currently using the HTC One X. Did HTC really think we would be happy with the new phone or sad as the phones we use now are outdated within 6 months and are being sold at $29.99 and has no value of carriying it, which we bought for $149.99 or for some $199.99. And now we will have to see other people using the HTC One X at the cost of us as we tried the phone trusting the brand to keep it exclusive.
Less Battery Life, Slower CPU, Less Space, previous andrioid OS @ a higher Price. Welcome to HTC family of testers. I will make sure any product i buy next is not from HTC or its affiliates. I will buy a Samsung or an Iphone for sure, confident about them not releasing a similar product within 6 months.
Thanks HTC for making me a tester, i will make sure i don't become again. Same for AT&T for releasing it in US. You just lost a cusomter for sure.
Name one company didn't do what HTC does. Let's face it, any Android phones can only have 3 to 6 months of shielf life.
I don't have any issues with WiFi or calling. I have no doubt you have a legitimate issue, but I also don't think its that widespread. HTC is a great phone company. I've stuck with them through 5 devices, since the old Windows Mobile days. The only beef I have with them, is their anti-development posture (despite their claims to the contrary) with the locked bootloaders, and their decision to cavort with AT&T to not allow a bootloader unlock for the One X. I'm willing to bet that future HTC devices on AT&T will be similarly locked down, and that if anything will prevent me from buying their devices in the future.
The One X is an amazing piece of hardware. Them offering an update to the device is logical business sense, and doesn't degrade the real value of my phone (how I use it every day). All Android devices drop in retail value. I don't resell my devices, so I can care less. The X+ is not even out yet. So the One X is still by far the best phone out there. The GS3 has a crappy cheap feel. The iPhone 5 has a dinky screen, and a funny candy bar shape, its a joke to me. The One X is the best there is.

I think he was talking more about how long a phone stays the flagship, how fast the price drops, when it gets superceded by a new phone. HTC has a bit to be desired for updates, for sure. But all the Android manufacturers have a major hardware release every several months. GS3 is newer than the One X, and Samsung already has the Note 2 coming, and I think a smaller version of the GS3, as well.
htc could keep the bootloader how it is but allow htcdev for unlock on at&t, that would let use flash on all firmwares and still keep people from bricking their phones with tegra roms. i think that should be an acceptable compromise for the time being.
Care to tell us where to buy this magical One X+ thats supposedly for sale since last week? That would be great!
Also, its cell phones dude...
SGS2 - SGS2 Skyrocket - [email protected] Sky Rocket HD - Note 1 - SGS3 - Note 2
Razr - Razr Maxx - Atrix HD Razr M- Razr i - Razr HD Maxx

I remember when I bought a SGS2 on AT&T and not even a damn 60 days later the LTE version was already out.
Its the name of the game. More and more people are jumping to the next phone just because its the latest and greatest. Why wouldn't a business capitalize on that?

Which ones: there are three different versions of GS2: Original GS2, GS2 LTE/Skyrocket and GS2 LTE with HD screen (Korean only). All released within 2 or 3 months of each other. Not to mention GS3 was released soon after that. As far as I know, other than ICS update, there is no other updates for AT&T versions.

I never seen that.
I'm not happy with the fact that the CEO of the company, Peter Chou said out his own mouth that an official bootloader unlock solution would be provided for every phone after late 2011. It's Oct now and this phone still does not have that. Because of that, this will more than likely be my first and last product I'll buy that's an HTC made product.

One word: Nexus.
No wifi issues, No dropped calls here...
sure HTC falls behind a little on the update department but the HOX+ is not a mistake, the new flagship comes with JB which will be available a couple of weeks after the official release on the HOX and HOS, and every phone manufacturer releases an updated/better/newer version every 6 months or so.
About Samsung... 4 diferent types of S2 or something... maybe more on other carriers (who knows), Skyrocket couple of months after the release of the S2, then the Galaxy Note... Samsung made the same thing and considering the crazy amount of phones HTC released last year... this is an improvement... sort of xD
Hopefully JB will come out soon (if is not out alredy...havent look into it), and all your bugs will go away
BTW sorry about my English, doing my best!

You're right they're not. Process of unlocking them isnt an issue though.
By HTC releasing a new, upgraded version of their flagship device during the same year, customers really feel like they have made a bad decision...
But....you could argue the one x plus is necessary, because the one x, one s, each sgs3 variant and countless others all are essentially the same device, with an s4 soc and at least a gig of ram.
the only variance is screen size, storage, and the materials used to build each device.
Nice to see a unique device on the market. Its not the same thing as every other phone out there.

If you must have the latest and greatest phones as they release quit buying carrier subsidized phones. I could care less if the price drops $0.99 subsidized, I guarantee I'm still going to get $400 for mine and will have upgrade for a couple hundred dollars. In 5-6 months, I will do it again.
That's how it is
In Android world if your phone stays on top for 6 months...consider yourself lucky...new phones launch every week...and samsung is no different...Galaxy S (Vibrant) was awful...no updates except from 2.1 to 2.2 and it had very bad firmware...thanks to CM...I am running 4.1 on it now
Wait, is my One X going to explode when the One X+ comes out?
Maybe not, but it will be REALLY embarrassing to be seen holding one

Thinking about getting a nexus 4, Anyone else with me?

I really, really want the nexus 4 and I could sell my HTC One X on craigslist and get around $300 for it. Is anyone else doing this as well or am I just stupid and should I keep my HTC one x?
I will be jumping to the nexus for sure... After I see how early adopters fare with it.
After getting the one X I swore I would never buy another non-nexus phone. Granted the hardware on the nexus phones normally isn't the top of the line, but I never felt locked down in any way with the nexus phones. Want an unlocked bootloader, one simple command in adb and she is unlocked.
Also since there is only going to be one model all developers will be creating roms and kernels for just that nexus. No 4G models, or models with different processors, gpus, ect ect.
From what I have seen the specs will be good enough for me, as long as the battery life is as good as the one X and there are no production problems I will be grabbing one right away.

[Q] htc one xl vs xperia tx?

I am buying a new smartphone and with my budget the final choices narrowed down to one xl and xperia tx. i am really puzzled and can not decide which one to pick. Any specific advice?
I guess xl is slightly faster in performance than tx and it supports 4G whereas tx doesnt.on the other hand xl lacks the removable battery and external mem card and the camera on tx outrivals the one on xl. Another point of concern is that as i checked HTC website i couldnt find xl among the products. Does it mean that in the future there might not be any supports and updates for the newer androids and so on?
I'd be surprised if we got any further official updates for the One XL, the last update (4.2.2) is almost certain to be it from HTC. But we do have a great development community here. I don't know about updates for the Sony but it's probably the same situation, being an older phone as well.
There certainly is a page for this at the HTC web site, you'll find it here.
To be honest I think this phone is fantastic. Asking which phone we recommend in the One XL forum might get some biased responses, after all we chose this phone for a reason.
Sent from my Evita
Thank you for your reply. Are you saying that tx is the older phone?
I was quite certain on picking xl however 2 things made me hesitate:
1. Both my brother and a close friend of mine have had HTC phones ( rather older phones) and after a while their batteries dont work anymore.
2. I asked the same question as i asked here from the salesperson i went to buy the phone from and he didnt recommend xl since he said some display issues have been reported to him 2 3 months from the time people had bought their phones.
Thus I would really appreciate it if you could help me with these concerns so that i could buy the right phone.
I'm saying both phones are a bit old, therefore no updates are likely. I've had this phone since launch and my battery is just fine, perhaps your friends haven't been using the correct charging procedures. I would never trust what a salesperson says, this device is no more likely to have the display fail than any other phone on the market.

I've had 5 different HTC devices over the course of 6 years, and they all work fine still (well OK, I haven't actually tried a couple of the older devices for some time, but they worked for many years after they were retired from being my "main" phone).
The battery on my One X seems to be working just as well as the day I bought it, just after release.
Moral of the story, is that all batteries can go bad, the manufacturer doesn't matter.

I'm not aware of any prevalent display issues on the One XL (EVITA). The Tegra 3 quad core version of the One X (ENDEAVORU) had some known display issues just after release. But its a completely different chipset, with different video chip and drivers (NVIDIA), so its not related to our dual core Snapdragon version. The salesperson likely just confused the two versions, which is pretty common.
thanks for the help guys. meant so much to me.

[Q] Should I buy a HTC one X?

I'm looking for an Android phone with a good camera and it seems HTC One X fits my budget ($250). I read that HTC One camera develops purple fringes. Is that true for One X too? Please advise if it's still worthy buying HTC One X or if you have other suggestions please let me know.
Are you wanting the HTC One X or the HTC One XL / at&t One X? You're asking in the HTC One XL / at&t One X forum. The camera on this phone is fine, I've never had a problem with it.

It's going to be mostly AT&T HTC One X. That's what I find being sold in Ebay. That said I was assuming that there should not be much difference between the AT&T version and the other versions of One X. I could be wrong.
They look similar but they're entirely different on the inside. But you're in the right place for the at&t version. In my opinion it's the better phone; far superior development if you're looking to unlock/root it, the Qualcomm chip doesn't heat up nearly as much as the chip in the international One X, and if course it's LTE too.
Sent from my Evita
That said, it's an older phone (as phone development cycles go) that's not getting the newest Android, so... you know, as long as you're OK with that.
Just to be clear, it may not be getting the latest Android via an official update but I'm currently running 4.4.2 thanks to our developers. Just saying it won't get the latest version might be a bit misleading.

Outside of that, One X is an okay choice. It would be better if you wait though. We're probably only 2 months from HTC introducing their next phone and that could probably drive HTC One prices to 250.
