Please support this by posting your dissatisfaction regarding HTC's recent actions regarding non removable batteries, no sd card, no USB host mode, and locked bootloader with the "flagship"(LOL) One series.
SGS3 is looking good! Sd card, replaceable/extended battery, and easily unlocked.

Seriously? They don't have the necessary technology? Are you for real? HTC has control over the phone. They have the technology I assure you. I am an IT professional(for 20+years), managed IT companies, deploy servers/networks, build servers, clients, deploy wireless links, etc, etc. and far more.
HTC said that all phones will be unlocked, not me, not att. HTC rolled over apparently for att, instead of standing their ground, according to recent news.
And yes I have had HTC phones for the last 10 years, administer many smartphones, and have flashed more roms than I can remember.
I am shocked how HTC has made so many mistakes with this One(pun intended). Could have truly been a world beater if it had sd card, upgradeable battery, host mode, and an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER!
Helping put pressure on HTC to put pressure on att is the ultimate goal. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, the quiet one gets ignored. Make some noise!

HTC doesnt have complete control of the phones in the US. The carriers have more control. They say if the bootloaders are locked or not and they control all updates sent out to the phones.
An a business level I cant blame them. If ATT said either lock them or we wont carry them then I would lock them down as well. We have to look at it from their point of view. They are in it to make money. ATT wants to cut back on the returns due to people messing with stuff most people have no business messing with. (happens more then you would think.)
We can complain all we want but in the end if you dont like it then do what i do and buy an international unlocked version and not worry about it.

Little bit of both to be honest. I see people getting into such an uproar without having all the facts. If people want to make a point then they should do so with all available info on it. I mean think about it. just for a hot min. If you were HTC what would you have done. Taken a 3 million device hit just to keep 1% of the users happy?
As for Apple there are far less issues with apple. If Android was as locked down as IOS then this would not be an issue
I have to agree with OP, even though the SGS3 is not as good looking as the One X, I will still go for the SGS3 because it has removable battery and storage which is important to me.
Sorry HTC you are trying hard to be Apple and you're not.

People gotta make money, and HTC is no exception. If you gotta boycott HTC, might as well boycott the spirit of capitalism.
oh wow, can't believe they'd do that. That's exactly like following how APPLE makes their products. But then again, HTC has other devices that aren't like that and will they be doing this to every new product that comes out?
Either way we should be grateful for the device. My Galaxy Nexus has no SD card but it's fine with me.

What? You make no damn sense. How is not buying a specific product going against the "Spirit" of capitalisim?
Even though AT&T requested to lock it down, it's HTC's fault for promising something and then taking it away.

I disagree. It has something to do with HTC as well. Back at the end last year I got the vivid and we had to wait months and months for an unlock. We tried to urge both HTC and AT&T but they just pointed the finger at one another. Meanwhile, the GSII came to AT&T with no such problems. Even the skyrocket which came out at the exact same time of the vivid had no such issues. I'd be willing to bet the GSIII has no kind of problems with regards to rooting. HTC is just as much to blame for not keeping their promises, while Samsung doesn't have any such stipulations.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
The Apple example is excellent. At&t bends over for Apple. No bloatware on their phones what so ever. People are mad at HTC more they SAID no more locked boot loaders and put out a phone with a locked boot loader. Does anyone like people that talk out of their ass? That's the issue here.

Hi, I'm an Incredible S owner but I thought I'd cross-post this here since it applies to the Desire S as well.
There's a new online petition to protest HTC's decision to introduce signed bootloaders that prevent rooting and the use of custom ROMs on their phones. It's on a website called Groubal which takes customer complaints directly to companies if a petition gets enough signatures.
If like me (and most of us on the IS forum!) you want to see HTC's decision to lock down all their new phone firmware reversed, please go to this page and sign. Maybe if there are enough of us, HTC will be forced to listen.
Thanks for your time!
i signed but well, you really think htc is caring about that partition?
they give a f*** for those low % of persons wanting open bootloaders
Really? I mean, come on really?
I'll sign but these never do any good. The only thing companies a big as HTC respond to is money. If enough of us switch to Samsung and LG maybe they'll listen. Problem is Im still buying Evo 3D as their is a glimmer of hope that it will be unlocked or hacked. If its not within the first 30 days its going back.

This partly true. HTC have been a long way short after the HD2 (clearly ahead of the market), but now with the Sensation they have a chance to capture the high end consumers again.
We are another segment of consumers and a small one at that; if we don't buy HTC phones then I doubt it would make a big enough dent in their revenue to matter. BUT in my opinion we are a group at the forefront of having the most strict requirements. Those that push the boundaries of these phones, critiquing ever bit of software/hardware far more than the average consumer. If we were listened too a bit more HTC might realise that we hack and root our phones because we know they have the potential to be better, a potential that HTC need to realise to beat the likes of Samsung (who are improving on their software and at this rate will soon offer consistently better phones than HTC).
We should be embraced, not excluded.

As a non-native speaker I hate acronyms too, and if you didn't mean that in an insulting way, my apologies ...you know what they say...think before ink
PS: to me it was obvious especially after pointing out he's from Incredible S forum...plus Desire S is often reffered to as a DS
But I think HTC will never listen to petitions like this... sadly... (but I signed it nonetheless )
Just signed it, although the chance of HTC to reconsider unlocked bootloader is very slim. Hopefully their sales will be affected by this poor decision.
These companies don't care about petitions. They only follow their agendas.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
Never give up trying...
Don't know how much this will help, but signed the petition.
i will sign just for the cause.
its a no win answer for HTC. if they claim only a small percentage of users root and that this wont effect sales, then why spend the money to lock their bootloaders if such a low percentage of users even root anyway? seems like a waste of resources and money if virtually nobody roots.
and if a high percentage of users DO root, then why lock their bootloaders since that would indicate those users buy HTC specifically for the rooting abilities.
either reason HTC uses as an excuse, it goes into the makes no sense answer response.

I'm not at all unhappy about the SGS2 not coming to VZW. By the time it would have arrived the 720p, 1.5GHz dual core phones (HTC Vigor, Droid HD) would be just a few months away. The SGS2 would have looked seriously outclassed by the next gen devices.
The mobile device space is moving so fast right now. The TB has been the premier phone on VZW for about six months now and has been a great phone after the MR2 update. The Bionic will take its place and will be the king for four or five months and then something better will come along.

Apple is running scared because they have inferior phone technology, and they will keep the competition out of the marketplace but rather in the hands of the US justice system.
HTC and Google need to lay the smack down and hold their ground, prove what is right and counter with the voice recognition and pull-down menu. Which were both around since the dawn of the G1.
Apple is a terrible company and this is yet another reason they don't give 2 $hits about the technology innovation by pushing the envelope further.

I don't think apple would do that. IMO if apple did companies like ASUS Sony and Samsung would be able to say but in ours is the most up to date state of the art tech. Which would cause apple to admit they're between a year and two years behind the competition. Which could result in a price fixing lawsuit. Just my guess and two cents. But my order for the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 was cancelled because of the new ITC ban against it. But it freed me to order the nexus tablet

They buy them because you pretty much take it out of the box, turn it on, and use it. There's really no remotely complex setup stuff required. I mean, give an average user an iPhone and they will be up and running with most thing up and running within a few minutes. Android is a bit more complicated for the average user (and I don't think too many people will disagree with me, the emphasis was on AVERAGE, ie not most of us here on these forums).
Different people want different things out of their devices, that's just how it goes.
Apple's legal team, however, screw them.

Absolutely. It's like dominoes. The G-Tab 10.1 and GN are the first to fall. With those victories, Apple's going to rapidly expand the number of devices they go after using Judge Koh’s ruling as ammunition. The G-Tab's a design patent so that's harder to enforce but multi-source search is on every Android device. Judge Koh somehow linked it to Siri but it's really the entire Google search system. It's also kind of related to the HTC ITC issue where a single event provides multiple actions to choose from. This really isn't good for us, Android, and competition in general. I hope Apple rots (no pun intended).

I never had a problem with Apple before but they are forcing consumers to buy ONLY their products. Either we can have a crippled phone or an iPhone and that's just wrong.
Btw I didn't know Apple had a patent on Siri.
Goggle kinda shot itself in the foot by not obtaining patents for the stuff they had years before anyone else.
Apple does ****ty business. They take others' ideas and then patent them as their own.

Double post.
Keep in mind that the ban is only in effect until the actual trial. If this same idiot judge presides over the actual trial and apple wins there's no way it survives appeal. That's my hope anyway. By the time this gets to trial the gnex will be replaced by the next nexus device.
Keep in mind the ban hasn't actually been seen since apple must post $95 mil for the ban to actually take effect. You can still purchase from the play store.
And you all act like apple has already won. With something this big, there will likely be a large settlement and apple will get its money and Android will make a few tweaks and for the most part still be the same.
Edit: I will eat my own words, it is not available. The 96 million dollars was posted by apple last night to enforce the ban...

Best buy is still selling the Tab 2 10.1
It's banned as well
Apple is worth 500 billion. 95M is chump change to post up thanks to the minions who think their devices are just so fantastic and useful.
Posted from my iPad....haha
The ban only affects the original G-Tab 10.1. All the other sizes and all the "2" devices are still for sale. The GN has been removed from the PlayStore and now says "coming soon." In better news a UK judge through out three of Apple's patent claims against HTC and disqualified a fourth.
Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was the tab 2.
Happy Independence Day....Everyone needs just chill out. Google, Samsung and Apple - all are multi-billion dollar companies looking out after themselves.
Enjoy barbeque, salsa-dips and some chilled beers.....
Damn, just bought another Gnex yesterday, glad it still shipped out.

Actually I meant it. Here's the reason. If HTC phones get banned, no one gives a damn. Nothing changes. If Samsung devices get banned all hell will be raised. This is good for android's fight against apple.
I personally don't care about Samsung devices, and have no intention of getting one. Which raises the question, why are all of you so concerned?

if Apple loses, samsung gets the money to "cover" lost sales
If apple wins, they get the bond back

Because if Apple wins this then they will most likely come after other or all Android manufacturers.

If Apple wins and if it sets a legal precedent then be sure that everyone else would have to either pony up or deploy a workaround. The thing is; in software patents, as ridiculous they are - workarounds are easy. The problem happens when Samsung copies the whole design as they did with some variants of original galaxy s. But, by the time courts take a look at the case, the model becomes obsolete and new versions are launched.
