[Q] Install CWM or unroot - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to install cwm or unroot my device so i can get the FOTA update installed but I haven't been successful
-NVflash doesn't work coz my transformer is B90
-using the recovery installer.apk gives me "problem praising the package"
-Installing cwm itself, gives me install successfully but I cant boot into recovery( I used the reboot into recovery app and volume +power)
-I tried installing a recovery touch .img using adb it didn't work(I couldn't get the device into fastboot
I'v been going at for 2 days now, this 5th device to root and use custom Rom's for but I m really stuck on this one. what I might be doing wrong, any help is appreciated. thanks

What firmware are you on?
"parsing error" is usually a bad download or not compatible with your firmware.

its
HRI66.us_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511
kernel 2.6.36.3

Yeah that's a pretty old firmware.
What method did you use to root it?
Try this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106587

no luck with that one. I'm gonna try it again tomorrow on a diff pc.
the asus auto update fails every time I ran it, is that because of the device being rooted?

Root only should be ok for ota update.
If you have custom recovery or delete any system apps ota update will fail

Do you have stock recovery? I also noticed you said +volume, It is -volume to get into recovery, just to confirm/make sure. If you have stock recovery you can try pushing an update.zip and using that, then flashing cwm on that updated firmware.

Cant install Ota Update

Hey friends.
I've got a little Problem.
At first I've some wifi issues of my one s.
Today I got the message, that there is an Ota update. I hoped, that it fixes the wifi issues (disconnect in standby and doesn't reconnect after wake up).
I've the official shipped Rom with opened hboot and root. I rooted it for apps like addblocker.
So after I downloaded my update the phone turned of to install it. Started in recovery where it aborted.
I think it is why I installed Cwm for root.
Is there a way how to install the update? Maybe to reinstall the original recovery?
I don't really want to install a custom rom.
Thanks a lot

If the bootloader is unlocked, relock it through the HTC One S Toolkit. Also, I might just be able to find a .img file of the stock recovery for you. I will look now.
EDIT: I have attached the stock recovery file. Rename it to "recovery.img" (without the quotes) and flash it in fastboot (replace the obviously fake names with the actual directories):
Code:
cd /sdk/platform-tools (or whatever you keep fastboot and adb in)
adb reboot bootloader (or boot into it manually and skip this)
fastboot devices (just to verify)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (it'll say a lot of crap and then tell you when it's copied)
fastboot reboot (or you can go back to the bootloader and get into recovery from there and skip this step)
Also, I have included a picture of a lion. Why? Because I can.
EDIT2: The recovery was to big to upload so I put it on mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?unfu1p66545xu7z

Yes you need to install stock recovery for OTA update to work.
Use OTA Rootkeeper to save your root file or you will loose root after the update.
Thank you auf lot I'll try it today.
Edit: Didn't had to relock my bootloader. Only did your Fastboot-Instructions and run the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Now everything works fine.

[Q] root a OTA updated JB ?

hi..
i've ota'd my device with JB, and flashed it with CWM.. the problem is i cannot flash the superSU, i've checked a few a threads and guides, and although one says rooting only works for 4.0.4 firmwares ,another http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256821 says it will work on all firmwares, the message i get is E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed.
which to me seems to indicate a problem with SU rather then rom. i've tried it with both 1.34 version and 1.25 version, i've read somewhere that SuperSU may not work on all devices, but i didn't see any alternatives. i've looked into CF-Auto_root but it doesn't seem to have a version for the relay..
Did you use this su flashable *.zip?
http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip

To flash SU? Sure. I think there even is a function of some sort to install su in twrp.

sadly i cannot flash that as well
due to the same problem with cwm , i need it in odin format. so my real problem is to find a cwm twrp in odin format that is compatible with the relay and enables signature verifiaction skip

If you flash this cwm.tar.md5 file via odin you should be able to install the stock jelly bean rom and SU in recovery mode right after that.. I did this few days ago, just to test stock jelly bean.
If you already tried this.. wellp, no idea what's going on.
this is the exact cwm i tried, via odin, and no matter, i try to flash through it, (well i didn't try to original stock rom) whether it's TWRP su on several versions, i always go the same issue with signature verification, so my first problem is how do i install a cwm or TWRP which allow me to disable signature verification? i'm assuming i can't just pick up any cwm or twrp, and try to odin them, i need the ones compatible with relay.
Maybe a silly prompt, but is the date and time current in phone?
Yea, why shouldn't they be?

Someone tried any rooting method on 4.1.2 ?
I dont want to mess my phone...

Update fails to install

I tried to install the new update but on the install screen it says failed to verify and asks if i want to install anyways.
I choose yes and it errors out saying the update is for device "roth" and i have device "thor"
Does ayone know a workaround for this?
Have you messed with any system files or changed out the recovery or anything like that? I assume the Shield is going to look to make sure the system is all intact before allowing the update. Though the fact it says Roth which is a spelling error of Thor seems weird. Mine updated fine...
If you can find the update using root explorer you could delete it and redownload it.

OTAs will commonly fail if you install custom recovery. You'll have to wait for someone to make it into a zip that you can run through CWM.

You probably still have CWM installed, to install an OTA you must first go back to the stock recovery. You can download it from here: http://goo.im/devs/agrabren/shield/original_images/recovery.img
Put that file in your ADB folder
To flash it, connect to usb and enable ADB debugging.
on PC type:
adb reboot bootloader
-Wait to reboot-
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-Now you have stock recovery installed-
Reboot the shield normally and install the OTA update, it should work.
Your bootloader is still unlocked, but you don't have root.
To install CWM, just follow the same instructions but replace the stock image with the CWM recovery image. You can download that here: http://goo.im/devs/agrabren/shield/cwm/recovery.img
The shield will be unrooted when you update. To root, simply flash CWM and reboot. CWM will ask you if you want to disable Stock reflashing, and if you want to root.
You may also need to flash the real SU zip from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip?retrieve_file=1
For me, I was not able to let the SU app install the binary's alone, (Normal, or CWM method) I had to flash the SU zip.
But the update is smooth, and everything is working. Just no SD write support obviously.

I tried this but it wouldn't download the ota again an I couldn't find where it was. So, I tried going back to stock to update but now it is stuck on the boot screen. I tried downloading a newer factory image from the nvidia website but now all of the windows links are locked behind some developer program that I have to make an account, submit an application, and wait for approval. Do you have any links to a recent factory restore image?
EDIT: I ended up just downloading mint and the linux .sh file to get the factory images.

That's what I tried before but it didn't work
If some updates please capture the OTA zip that downloads and upload it for us to tear apart.
What steps are you doing on there also email me [email protected] I will be able to respond more quickly
you dont have to
you can just use kwonggers toolkit, and just revert to stock kernel, stock system image, and stock recovery, you don't need to relock bootloader, but you must download the ota's separately, if you don't automatically see them under about shield> updates, then go to application manager>all> and force stop google services framework, then check for the update(it should now show up and download). this is what I have been doing, everytime I want to revert to the stock, most up to date ota, after this, you can reflash cwm recovery, flash the super su.zip and root again!
The ota (for some back assward reason) downloads not to the ota folder but to the cache folder. Anyway uploading the full otq zip now will edit with link when its done

That could be more than one reason. But off the top of my head, maybe it's because the OTA folder is userspace, and there might not be enough Storage left on the internal. Cache is a separate partition, Things can even be deleted while running. So basically it insures enough space to download, and the user would never need to delete his own data to make room.
It might be awkward when you're looking for the OTA, but I think it's designed that way with the user in mind. :good:
Well regardless here's the ota file https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2khjpo7TDP0Y3c0SjNNRWNXT28/edit?usp=sharing

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891
It is safe to downgrade to .8 but there is no need for it. You can root the .10 firmware with Towelroot v1 as _that mentioned earlier.
Download it from here, unzip the file and install the apk on your tablet, then run it.

So how did you solve your recovery flash trouble? Post it so others can learn from it.

If you are unlocked you can just flash the SuperUser.zip from the chainfire su on xda to root as well.

rom2sd1.zip has nothing to do with this... Why are you flashing it?
You flashed the Asus apps in recovery and went through the Aroma installer to select those you want?
Don't know if the installer gives you the option to save the installation log at the end. Look for it, flash again.

6.0.1 ota with stock rooted 6.0

My v10 downloaded an OTA , which im assuming is 6.0
1. Im rooted on stock 6.0 and unlocked boot loader. Will the OTA work without messing up anything ? Ill have to root again im sure, just want some info before i pull the trigger.
I don't think the update will even proceed being that you're on a rooted ROM. I have that notification too, and i just don't know how to turn it off.
I to am rooted, unlockboot and stock rom. I don't feel like taking a chance. So I used titanium backup to freeze the software update and in the drop down notification if you press it, it's a notification from Google play services if you block it in apps it will disappear from your drop down. I also deleted the update zip in the cache folder.I used es file explorer ,device/cache/update

Okay, I'm assuming you are on H90120e (system version). There is a root exploit for the H90120j update. You just do the following:
Make a backup of your apps and settings
Flash your phone to the new update (H90120j)?
Take a look at either one of these threads to root your device again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/step-step-guide-rooting-lg-v10-using-t3382631
OR

You can't flash the phone that is already rooted and has TWRP.
I am in this same situation. On stock rom with root and twrp. I want to update to the new update, but do not want to loose all my apps, settings, etc.
Question is, how to do the initial update before having to re-root again?
How do we flash the phone with the new update?

Why can't you flash the phone that is already rooted and has TWRP?
All you are doing is opening the LGUP tool and flashing the new H90120j .kdz file using the "refurbish" option then flashing the H90120j .tot file that has TWRP using the "update" option which will flash the phone regardless of what is running on your phone. The guides on the first link explain that. I believe your concern is keeping all of your settings and apps. Look up Titanium backup, it works for me.
Thank you. I only flash the LGH901AT-01-V20j-310-260-JUL-12-2016-ARB02+0ROOTTWRP tot file and all is good.
Well except that I lost Dolby audio.
I will look for a fix.

There's a guide in general that tells how to do all this. In fact jun19inf WROTE it.
In a nutshell, do a twrp backup.
Upgrade to 20j by flashing the stock 20j kbz.
Enable usb debugging and oem unlock
flash tot that has twrp in it.
Now you can go into twrp and 1) root via supersu 2) restore ONLY data from your twrp backup taken previously to get your apps etc back. Alternatively Titanium Backup will also do just fine.

If all is you have is root, you should be able to unroot in the SuperSU settings, and then let the update install. But if you have TWRP, then I can't see any way to do the update without using a PC to flash your phone back to stock ROM and recovery. Although you may check the dev. section to see if Eliminator has a flashable ROM to bring you up to date.

Hi all. I just got my factory warranty back and I attempted to root it. Everything went as it should, until just after the install finished. Instead of rebooting normally, it now will only reboot into TWRP. Once there, when I try to flash a custom ROM (in this case, Bliss, but I don't think it matters, I get an error message that says the zip file is corrupt. Then, while still in recovery, when I tried to wipe everything except the sd card, it says mkfs.fat process ended with error. I then powered down and attempted the factory reset. I scrolled down on both screens and it did not say anything about any errors, so I assumed it took. However, it reboots right back into TWRP recovery. It also boots right to TWRP recovery when I try to boot normally. Of course, adb does not recognize the phone in any mode that I can get into (fastboot/recovery/download), so, I can't use LG Bridge to reflash the original firmware. Does anybody have any ideas for a fix? I know that this replacement phone had 6.0 on it. I thought I did everything to a t? TIA...
OK, not sure how I got there, but when I attempt to reboot from TWRP it says No OS Installed! Are you sure you want to reboot? That at least says what the problem is. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Where can I download the update file?

Did you select refurbish or upgrade?
I believe you need to select upgrade when flashing or you get stuck in TWRP

How to root V10 T-mobile M.M ver V20L
How to root V10 T-mobile M.M ver V20L
Can some one guide me on the following:
1. Can I flash back and downgrade to Software version V20J from V20L.
2. Is there any root method for V10 t-mobile MM ver V20L.
1. It is well explained in this forum, you CANNOT go back without facing a software brick.
2. You can root your phone through Dirty_Cow method or by flash Eliminater74 ROM (Part1 & Part2).
Again, search for that in this section and in development one...
