How to switch keyboards? - HTC One S

i know its gotta be something stupid. with most android devices you just hold down in a text field and change input method. this doesnt seem to be the case here. can someone tell me how to properly switch to a different keyboard?

If you figure it out let me know. I've tried to find that setting a few times. The only place I can find the "select input method" is in swypes settings.

ive downloaded multiple keyboards thinking they were not compatible. they show up in language and input settings and i even toggle the button to "on" but i cant get it to switch

Ok i got it. Knew it was something stupid. After you install the keyboards and make sure they are toggled on in settings, just simply text as normal, then bring down the notification bar or drop menu and select the keyboard of your choice

This is driving me mental! How do you turn off autocomplete with keyboard??

I have deselected it under settings / input. But it still tries to fill in bloody words for me when i am using a keyboard with all the keys i need! What the hell is it trying to do? I find it physically impossible to type anything without it constantly putting in random words!!! AHHH!!!!
Ok. I'm ok. Any ideas?
Haha no clue, but it does get annoying. I'll keep an eye on this thread and look through the user manual to see if I find anything.
Open the on-screen keyboard, tap the little arrow next to it then select "Touch Input Settings"
Clear the tick for Spell Correction and your problem should be solved
I've just been pressing FN + Space, and choosing "ABC" from the menu.

Thanks! Perfect.

When typing annoying.

When I type something on my text messages there is a screw up.
EX: If I text "i am going to store" and i dont hit space after store it sends the message but keeps the "store" in the message and if i hit send it will send "store" again by itself... I have to hit space since it recommends something and unless i hit the word it wont go away...
any suggestions?
Adding puntuation afterwards should clear it up, or tapping on the word, or maybe even hitting enter (although I don't know if that works!)

If this is what I think it is, bring up one of the HTC keyboards and turn the switch on the ABC/T9 button onto ABC. That should disable it.
Yes, it is the most idiotic typing "aid" ever invented.
Turned off auto complete and auto suggest and still doesnt work!!! Did a soft reset! This is so stupid!
I will try the T9 thing.
T9 WORKED!!!
thank heaven!!
thanks allot guys
this has been driving me mad. i tried turning off word completion etc and that didnt help but this seems to have, thanks
yes it definitely fixed it for me. Great that was driving me mad.
Yes Kill xT9 Or Hit a Space at the end of every text.

Turning off T9 did not help at all. I still get the black line at the bottom of the screen. The f*#$%#% thing still wants to suggest some very useful words for me! Any other ideas?
Did you follow the steps?
When you start typing a new sms bring out the virtual onscreen keyboard, press the arrow and choose Full QWERTY. In full QWERTY mode you should have a little button on the bottom left of the screen with "ABC T9" written on it. Press it and let the magic work.
Now press fn + Space and a menu appears. Check that it is indeed in ABC mode. If you want to be on the safe side go also into "T9 Settings" (on that menu) and kill (untick) everything. Or at least that's what I did.
Excellent, thanks. The black bottom bar from SMS editing was very annoying. Now it's gone, thanks.
New SMS message, FN+ Space and then check ABC.
Thx!
Thx! You were right. In fact FN + Space then choosing ABC instead of English really does work. That #$%#$% annoying black thing disappeared! Thx!

i would actually like that, how do i get my phone to do that? i can make it happed when i switch from ABC to T9, but after sometime it switches back to ABS

Can't change the input methods

Help.
I can't change the input methods.
Now I can use only standard keyboard - unable to change to HTC Full QWERTY or anything else.
(^) this arrow button on the right of SIP icon is malfunction. No response when I hit it.
Could you please advise how to fix it?
Have hou tried with SIPChange_Tools_pairojn?
this started happening to me today
only way to change it was via settings menu
That works. Thanks!
However, are there any ways to get back to normal SIP changing method?
I prefer to click the ^arrow and change the SIPs.

better keyboards question for android 1.6

Hello, so I installed gbhill's 1.6 rom and I went to the market to download better keyboards. Once it was finished I went to setting options and selected to enable the better keyboards but I can't use them when the keyboard comes up. Is there something else I need to do to get this working?
Randomly, maybe you need to go to the keyboard settings and check mark touch input?
(I have no idea if it works but can't hurt to try)
Better keyboards works very well on thistle Rom. To get it going u just need to long press in a text field and select it. Assuming u have it activated in the settings
i love better keyboard with the android skin.
Yea i was a bit daft, they gave me clear instructions i didnt read. You need to hold the ?123 in the bottom left corner

[Q] Auto-correct qwerty keyboard?

I've checked the box to turn on predictive, but doesn't work? Any ideas?
First, go into the messaging app and open a text conversation without sliding the keyboard out. Then long-press the text input box and choose "touch" instead of swype. Then exit out of that, go into settings > languages and keyboard > and the touch input option needs to read "standard." Also go into one of the other screens and turn on text prediction and spell check (if you want) for QWERTY keyboard.
Now go back into the text messaging screen and it should work.
I don't want to tell you how long it took me to get it to work. It's nice of them to tell me that when the keyboard is slid out certain menu options aren't available that you need to access in order to turn on certain features for said keyboard...
I don't have the option for auto-correct on the hardware keyboard.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA Premium App
unnclespoon, you rock!
@unclespoon, thanks a MILLION. This answered a lot of questions for me. I was going round and round in all the menus trying to find auto-correct. Lame that you actually have to enable this menus from an actual message.

The only reason you need to open a message is to be able to switch from "Swype" to "Touch Input". You can do this on ANY text entry field, though.
For the auto-correct and prediction options, you can go (from the Home screen) Menu, Settings, Language and Keyboard, Touch Input, Hardware Keyboard Settings, then tick the box to enable Prediction.
Edit: Note that you HAVE to have "Touch Input" enabled instead of Swype for the touch-screen software keyboard, or prediction won't work on the hardware qwerty, even with "Prediction" enabled in the menus.
