Ringtone & message tone lost after reboot - HTC Sensation

Hi all,
I found a few other people with this issue but no definitive answer on how to fix it.
Just got the ICS update from Orange and all is well (after having to do a factory reset as messages wouldn't load) apart from ringtones.
If I set my own tones for email and txt and ringtones it will work, but any kind of reboot will set it back to default, and it also seems to be if the phone has slept for a long time it will lose the ringtones.
All tones are in either '/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones(notifications or alarms)'
or they are in '/sdcard/ringtones(notifications or alarms)'
These have always worked on previous android versions.
Now, I find what seems to cause this is the SD card not syncing correctly, it is mounted and if I unmount/re-mount it, sometimes the tones will come back.
If I go to 'personalise->sound' The tones say;-
ringtone = quietly brilliant
notification = zeta
alarm = new day
But if I click on the sound set itself it tells me that all my personalised tones are selected.
This is getting very annoying as I will have my ringtone for a few hours, then all of a sudden it jumps back to whatever it fancies.
Is there a known bug or a fix for this, it's only been since the update to ICS.
Thanks for reading and hopefully I have described the issue enough to make sense.
Darren

It's a known issue. I push all of my custom ringtones to its respective directory in /system/media/...
Simple work around.

Ok, thanks.
I kinda knew it would be the answer but wanted to check I wasn't the only one with the problem.
Do you know if this is an ICS issue or is it a sensation issue?
Darren

I think it's an issue with the restarting "media" service

There have been guesses for both, but I believe it happens in the senseless roms as well...

You can also add ring tones and notifications by
Settings- sound- phone ring tone - menu soft key- more ringtone - New ringtone
This way you won't lose ringtones when rebooted. You can also add alarms and notifications the similar way

Thanks for all the answers, I will give them all a go.
With regards to putting the files directly on the phone do I need root access (im not near a pc until later) as I don't really root my devices since them seem pretty stable nowadays.
Thanks

Yes, you would need root access.

ok, thanks to all
I have written an email to HTC to explain the issues and ask when they will fix the problems.
I know Android is still classed as 'a bit geeky' in terms of OS but now it is used on so many devices we shouldn't need to root our phones to change the ringtone, it's almost as bad as an iPhone
If I hear anything back from HTC I will post in this thread.
Darren

I wondered if there had been any update on this? I have tried various Android 4.1 and 4.2,2 roms and it always happens after a reboot (currently CM10.1). I have even tried converting the ringtone to OGG format, placing it the \system\audio\ringtones folder (on phone) and fixing the permissions but that did not work!
I'm (obviously) rooted with an HTC Desire HD. Thanks!

Is this the ultimate BUG?

I just found the ultimate bug and I believe this bug is responsible for G-Alarm and pTravelalarm not working. These alarm programs set the system volume to a predefined value, no matter where it was before (off, for example).
Why the heck does the PHONE RINGER volume influence the SYSTEM volume?
Check out the video:

Can this be fixed in Windows? Reg-Hack?
Anyone here with a AT&T Fuze that can test this please? Is my hardware defective? I'm still within the 30 days to return that sucker if it is.
Thanxxx
Wow, strange!!
I already saw your post in the G-Alarm thread yesterday.
Just tested it with my Touch Pro running ROMeOS 1.51, and I do not have this bug.

I suspect it is related to the latest AT&T stock rom. I hope someone with a brand new AT&T version can test this. If it's just a rom problem, then I can probably flash mine but I don't want to try that right now and lose warranty if I'm not sure...
here's my latest video that shows directly how crucial this bug is to any alarm program:

Again, it's myself who figured it out. After hours of trying and 3 hard resets (thanks to SpriteBackup I didn't have to install everything over again!)
Here is the result and the culprit is identified!

Anyone else here with the AT&T Fuze that has the same problem? Is there a fixed version of ozim available?

Interesting, but can you please post your solution in text form as well so that every single person who reads this thread from now until the end of time does not have to go watch a Youtube video ?

Yeah sure, no problem. I just thought a picture says more than 1000 words and a video says even more. But here in plain English:
Starting up the OZ IM Messenger Client on the AT&T Fuze (or worse, having it autostart with the system) completely screws up the system volume settings. Suddenly the RINGER volume slider also influences the SYSTEM volume. Say you turn your ringer volume all the way down but you still want to listen to mp3's in Windows Media... nada. If you set your phone to silent or vibrate and have a nice alarm program like G-Alarm installed, the alarm will go off but no sound out of the speaker!
After closing down OZ IM you still have to soft-reboot to get your system sounds back.

Is there a newer version of the OZ IM available that doesn't f*** up the system volume? That company's website doesn't even allow you to contact anyone, let alone check for updates or get support
Here's the newest development in this case.
Tried a different OZ IM (verizon version) last night and the sound bug was GONE. BUT I got errors connecting. Found out that there is a config file with verizon gateway in it, replaced it with the AT&T one. Still an error. Different one though (404). Re-installed the original AT&T version. Sound bug back immediately
Just overwrote the .exe file with the one from Verizon: Sound bug gone but again connection error 404...
WTF?
Anyone have a different AT&T version besides the obviously screwed up 2.0.84 M ?

[Q] Brainmasters MIUI 1.9.16 contact ringtones problem

Since 1.9.16 custom contact ringtones does not work anymore.
If a contact with a custom ringtone calls me the phone ring the default ringtone instead of the custom one.
Setting another contact ring tone does not make any difference.
Also tried Rings Extended with no luck.
I went back to 1.9.9 and the problem was not there.
Unfortunately i can not use 1.9.9 cause of the bluetooth problem it has.
Does anybody has similar problem with 1.9.16 ?
After flashing 2-3 other roms and no problem occurred (always restoring everything with titanium) i found the cause of the problem.
I had not realized that i had the problem when the screen was off, cause i have a 15 off timer and its always off and always i restore my settings from Titanium.
The problem was caused by screen-off profile of setcpu!
i tried to change frequencies or governors but no luck.
removing the screen-off profile completely everything runs as expected...
I cannot figure out why a profile 100-400MHz screen-off can cause this problem since other roms worked ok.
well, now with 1.9.23 there is no way i can make contact ringtones to work,
i made a full wipe and setup form scratch but contact ringtones does not work.
i cannot understand what i am doing wrong.
i put my ringtones at /sdcard/MIUI/ringtone.
select a global ringtone from there which works ok and then i select some contact ringtones from there but they get ignored!
whatever i try always the global ringtone rings ! ignoring the contact settings!
This happens only to brainmasters MIUI, formels and MIUI original works great!
also work at 1.9.9 brainmasters MIUI.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with your problem, but I do have a question for you. How are you setting your screen to 15 seconds? I am using brainmasters miui and can not set any lower than 30 seconds. I want to set 15 but cannot figure any way to do that.
sadly after too many efforts brainmaster miui 1.9.23 refuses to play contact ringtones even at stock install without any other program installed. (i didn;t install setcpu also).
Other miuis don't have this problem nor brainmasters 1.9.9.
flashed 1.10.7 to a brand new i9023.
its first rom after rooting.
same problem.

Notification Sound: Yes. Ringer Sound: No

I am using ViperS 5.0.0 but i think this is an HTC sense question in general.
I need notification sounds but i love to have my phone on vibrate only. i have found threads for people who want the opposite. Sound Butler, i have not tried yet. i want to make sure it definitely is not possible without an app.
Any ideas?

[Q] [Venom ViperXL 4.2.0] Incoming call screen turn off

Hi,
I have ViperXL 4.2 installed on my HTC One XL.
The problem I have is that when a call comes, the incoming call screen cannot be turned off without rejecting the call. i.e. I want to be able to turn off and lock the screen and let the call ring out instead of hanging up. Pressing the power button when the call comes only rejects the call (Even though "Power button ends call" setting has been disabled) Pressing volume buttons either stops the ringing or stops vibrating.
I don't want to install 3rd party Caller ID/dialer apps since it ruins the whole Sense experience. I infact tried installing some dialer apps and they didn't work.
Please help me how I can solve this the best way.
I would just reflash

What I'm describing is the default behaviour of Sense based ROMs. So, re-flashing wouldn't help I think.
If it is indeed the default behavior, there isn't really a great deal you can do. It's hard-coded into the ROM when it leaves HTC.

[BUMP] Any solution on the new Liberty Sense6 ROM?
Hi,
Just bumping up the thread to see if there are any solutions in the new Sense 6 ROM that has surfaced?
Also, I'm very surprised how other people on this forum don't seem to be concerned with this. Don't you guys ever need to ignore a call without disconnecting?
Hoping I can find a solution.
Sense 6 is a work in progress. Honestly, just wait for more Sense 6 ROMs to come with more developers and they'll have it fixed soon
Sense 6 was never meant to be on this device, thus the WiFi issue is not as big as you might think

How to get custom ringtone to stay the DEFAULT

So I have a custom ringtone from Google Music-it's an MP3 song I own, downloaded, and I connecting my phone to my desktop, I moved the song into the ringtones folder which when I am on the desktop only lists "hangouts" and does not show any of the internal system ringtones that are built into the phone. So the song shows up in the Sounds setting under "Memory" but not under "System" where the built in "Blu" ringtones are.
I can select this song as my DEFAULT ringtone and it stays the default for a while, but then it will revert back to the default Blu Ringtone I had previously selected which was the Blu_ringtone 4 or something. I don't understand why it won't save my setting permanently. How do I get it to do that? I can't move the song to the System folder because I can't find it.
Incidentally, I have a custom SMS tone too which seems to be working fine and it too is from the "memory" but it seems to be staying as the default so far. Any ideas. Right now my custom ringtone is remaining but I'm waiting for it to get knocked off again! Thanks for the help. I looked online but I have to wonder if some of this is peculiar to our phone hear or Android OS stuff-not sure.
I have this same issue. I even made a custom sound profile and it wont stick. However, my custom notification sound works 100% fine.
I have put the ringtone on the SD and the phone/ringtone directory. Neither will stay it is very annoying. I keep missing phonecalls because I am not used to this ringtone.
An update for the phone just came out; so I'll update and let you know if that fixes it.
Update the phone. If you get their new update the phone ring tones will stop resetting.

Thanks. I'm out right now so on LTE but checked for updates and it says my phone is up to date. I will check again later. I did an update a couple weeks ago. And my custom ringtone is NOT holding which is annoying. My SMS one is fine still. But I think I may have the current update already. I hope I don't and that fixes it!!

So how is my procedure different then. Put the mp3 into the Ringtones folder so why isn't it holding? I have a task killer but I have it set to ignore the settings. (Assuming sounds is within that) Hmmm I wonder if maybe it isn't??? I might delete the app and see if that does anything. Thoughts? Addendum! Tried that and after three days, my ringtone defaulted back, so back to square one. I have no idea what will fix this. Very annoying.

Have you tried storing the ringtone in the internal storage of the device and not the SD card?
Yes. It doesn't work. My next step is to try and maybe change it to an ogg file. I have the ringtone sent to memory and not the SD card but it doesn't matter. I have tried several apps and they work a while and then the problem happens again, and the default "system" ringtone one suddenly it resets itself to. I can't find those files when I look for them through explorer apps or on a PC. The same ringtones are in other folders, but then there is this "System" folder that seems to be the one ruling the show as the default and if I could drop the custom file into that, problem I think would be solved. But I also haven't tried converting the song into its present mp3 format to ogg. But do you or anyone have any clue why I can't access the System folder for ringtones? Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I take that back. When I look at my phone itself, I *think* I had put the custom tones into memory, but, no, I think they are in fact in the SD card. So this is my issue, trying to get them to my phone's memory. I can't seem to do that. I'm usually pretty savvy with this stuff and have never had problems setting custom ringtones. I don't know why this phone is eluding me so much.

I just noticed too. Of all weird things: I don't have an SD card in my phone! I don't know why it is saying SD card as location, but I don't have a card in there. I had opted to not use one for now. I also hooked my Note 3 up and had ZERO problems. What is the issue with the file system and this Blu phone to get a lousy custom ringtone in there and drop the darn files into the folder like I just did with the Note 3. I have the Blu for the dual SIM but honestly, a thing like custom ring tones should be straightforward and it's not.
