[Q] Barcode Scanner App Question - General Questions and Answers

Apologies if its in the wrong section.
--
I am using the barcode scanner app for android and whenever I scan a barcode and do a product search it does a search using google.co.uk for whatever reason and as a result sometimes it finds the product but then gives me the prices in euros and then sometimes it cant find the product that it is looking for.
But if I were to do a web search with the same barcode that it scans it uses google.ca which is what I want it to do and it finds the product (after clicking the first link then goes to the upcdatabase.com) and provides the info (except for the price). Does anybody know why it is doing this and how I can change it from searching with google.co.uk to google.ca (since I do live in Toronto, Canada).
Thanks!

Look in the settings and change the search country.

Ok I am wondering is there an app or android web browser add-on that will let you scan QR codes that are on the site ur on. Because I have noticed sites that many sites I go on to on my phone lately have QR codes linking to something or another.

If the QR code isn't linked or doesn't have a link to the software, it's bad design but nothing you can do on your end besides contact them and tell them to link the QRCode so you can click it.

I think he means that the image of the QR code is also a link.
such as
Code:
<img src="qrcode.jpg"/>
OP is asking if there is a application that will read QR images directly through the browser from the image, not a hyperlink to the page. (I don't know of any apps that do that currently.)
Hi,
You can do this from the Android browser using its "Share" feature with an app named QR Droid. I think it's as close as possible to a browser add-on.
Look for "la.droid.qr" in the Market and install it. After that:
- In the Browser, long-click the image and select "Save image"
- After downloaded, open image from notification bar
- Select Menu > Share > "Decode with QR Droid"
I hope this helps

accessing market completely

Hi,
I live in a country where Google Market does not provide paid apps. (Turkey)
So my Asus Transformer only shows free apps when I go into Market.
I had the same issue on my other Android device (Dell Streak) but that was a device with 3g and gsm features so I was able to access market by the help of app Market Enabler.
This app fakes the GSM provider on the phone.
Now that Asus Transformer is a wifi-only model this method does not work.
How does a wifi-only device defines the country of the device ?
Also, myLibrary does not provide buying books featue , just the free ones are available.
How can I enable access to Market and book library ?
any ideas please ?
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/
I'll have the same issues when I return home but I'm completely relying on Market Enabler even though there is no SIM.
Did you try the app? I'm running it but I'm in Uk where I can't really test
it.

market enabler does not solve my issues.
after enabling it with a US provider setting, sometimes I can find the app that I'm looking for but the first page in Market always shows "free" apps.
any idea ?
you could try this but I have no idea if it really works.
thank you. but that is totally irrelevent.
it's about the country we live in.
somehow google detects the country and blocks paid apps.
maybe a proxy could solve...
ISP tells them where you're located right.

Market Access
An app called Market Access has been working for me on multiple devices. Apparently it is based on the code from Market Enabler, although I'm not sure of the differences.
amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
However, since I've gotten the new market app, it doesn't work right away. I think the server takes a while to refresh before it recognizes the hack. Try enabling the "emulate on boot" and "show notification" options in the app AFTER selecting a SIM to emulate. Then go into Settings > Applications > Running Services and stop the "Google services" app. Then restart your device. If it doesn't work right away then give it a day and see if it works itself out.
ALTERNATE METHOD:
Of course there is always the classic method of putting your device into airplane mode and jumping on the wifi. That little trick works here in the States, but I'd be interested if it worked abroad as well. Let me know if it works for you.
Hi,
I am interested in that alternate method. But I didn't understand it.
What shall I do after putting the device on Airplane mode ?

My apologies, in the US some companies (like AT&T) will limit the apps that their customers can see in the Market. The way around this restriction is to not allow the Market app to access your SIM card info when starting up. Here's how:
1) Turn on airplane mode
2) Turn on wifi (you can enable wifi even with airplane mode on)
3) Launch the Market app...that's it!!
As I said, this works because the market can't tell what network you're on, because airplane mode disconnects your SIM card accessing the network. I don't know if the market looks at the wifi's ISP, so I don't know what effect this will have in other countries. If this doesn't work, maybe using a VPN connected to the US might do the trick, but really I'm just spit-balling at this point.
GOOD LUCK!
but my device (asus eee pad transformer) doesn't even have 3G so your method is meaningless.
my 3g is always disabled
Thanks for Market Access looks promissing. Read thru the guide seems like a cleaned up updated MarketEnabler - good. In Saudi we had a tablet with MarketEnabler able to see paid apps in $.
I'm counting on these tools for my Transformer.
Will hit your thanks button when next on PC...

Oops, you're right. I was thinking of my phone and not the TF, which has access to all the apps for the reason you stated. I imagine this would be the case with using the Market Access app as well.
However, I did notice that when tethering the tablet to my phone, ads where not displayed on webpages because I've installed the AdFree app on my phone. So maybe if you could get unrestricted Market access on an android phone and tether your TF to that, then you could get paid apps on your tablet too.
(ps - again, I'm just thinking out loud. Thanks for keeping me honest. Let me know what you guys find in your trials.)
A friend of mine confirms MarketAccess is working

Market Access didn't work for me.
But I found a workaround with Market Enabler and Market 3.0.27
I've removed my Market and erased data.
Then I've installed Market 3.0.27 after setting the GSM provider with "Market Enabler"
This way I can access paid apps.
hope this helps some one else.

FREE app of the day Printershare value $13

Need to print on your android device, go to Amazon app market the free app of the day is "printershare mobile print" it has a value normally of $13
Sucks if you're a UK customer of Amazon. I can login to Amazon.com using my .co.uk registered account, but the Amazon appstore keeps saying I need a default address in my 1-click settings when I already have one.
Nevermind, bought it on their PC site, saw my phone, "bought" it and now see it in My Apps. Meh at least it's done.
Can you post the download to the pc printer share? im at work and its not lettting me:/
Here's your link buddy.

It's quite long winded: login/create account, on the right hand side where it says enter phone number/email, enter email address. Login to your email on your phone and download Amazon app store. Login to the app store. Go back to the original page linked in the IP. Your phone should be listed. "Buy" the app, checkout until it has "shipped".
Goo back into Amazon app > my apps and now you can download. Pain in the rear end but finally done.
On another note, the app is pretty good. Takes about 5 mins for a print to come through when sent over the Web but everything is done pretty well.

Are you signed in using the same account you used to purchase? If you have multiple accounts on the phone then you can change accounts from in the play app by pressing menu, then accounts.

Try to visit the site with your computer and see if the app is bought or not.

I've asked the mods to move that to general as it's not phone specific. I've also added a method of doing it from the address bar, so you don't have to either use Chrome or figure out how to do the same in your browser of choice.
Is My IP blocked by google? Playstore works fine on GPRS but when I try to download applications throug Wifi on note it shows server error. When i click download, it say country not supported. It lets me download through GPRS. Can anyone pls help?

I tried several times but don't work, I think it's the site that didn't enable the function, do you have an idea to force this ? (I searched for an app but didn't find)
I've been looking this up for a while and can't find anything for sure other than making sure stay logged in for purchases is checked in the app. Do other PayPal links from your browser open with the app?

I've the same problem.
I search something with google app and there's a result from amazon.it, when I tap on it, it opens the browser instead of amazon app.
I checked the amazon app in android settings-app-app links and the supported sites are just amazon.de/.co.jp/.co.uk/.com
There isn't amazon.it and that's why it won't open the app.
Surely there's a file somewhere that contains these links. But WHERE???
Please help!
Thanks
