What I have done is use DVD shrink to make the file smaller then I use pspvideo to convert it to mp4 I have four movies on my sdcard

I don't do much dvd ripping anymore, but when I did I used Magic DVD Ripper it worked perfectly. However the software isn't cheap, there are other options out there for ripping DVDs. Just google dvd rippers and be amazed at the choices. When using any ripper be sure to check that the file output that it creates is compatible with the device you plan to put it on. Android is simple, just download one of the many video player apps from the Google Play Store. Then it doesn't matter what output the ripper makes the file. I use MX Player currently but have used MoboPlayer.
Now for using Digital Copies there are lots of ways of putting them on the SGS4G. For simplicity I won't go into much detail, but Digital Copies normally are copy protected. Meaning that they won't usually let you put them on any device and have them work. What I do with all digital copies is just convert them to another format using Quick Media Converter. Its free and can convert to almost any known video or audio format. If the protection on the Digital Copy is preventing you from converting it you might need a program to remove the encryption from the Digital Copy.. I don't want to get into all that though.. Google is your best friend
One word: handbrake. Google the lifehacker guide to handbrake

One more word. Freemake. Easy to use and better than handbrake imho. It will convert anything and it's free. I just used it to convert a region 4 dvd to mp4. The whole process took 17 minutes and the rip is flawless. Also will convert audio files(including flac). Here's the link:

Haven't tested the program myself, but I looked through the tutorial videos. The interface looks REALLY good and everything is pretty easy to use. If I wanted to just get the job done I would definitely use it.
U guys are pimps good looking out if anything else has worked for others pls post cuz our phones are still awesome IMHO!

From what I have gathered the SGS supports a lot more video/audio formats than Nexus S out of the box (correct me if I am wrong). Will it be possible to port these codecs from the SGS over to the NS?
Video Player Nexus S
Helps. Need a video player for Nexus S. I switched from my G2 to this. With the G2, i used ArcMedia and it played pretty much anything without any conversion. Now all i get is FCs on the Nexus S. Sad panda i am right now.

[Q] How to play vidoes/movies on Nexus S?
So i was thinking about watching a movie this afternoon on my brand new Nexus S and started looking for some sort of video player under the appications. Is it true that the phone doesnt come with any kind of Video Player? How do i watch movies? What format to use for the movies? I download all my movies and they're all .avi. All the help, comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.
AVI is just a container. It can hold any kind of codec inside. I heard people reccomend rockplayer is good though. Try that and report back on how it works.
Rockplayer doesn't work. Lots of players crashes on the Nexus S right now. They all need to be updated.

You're right. Nothing works at the moment. Is it true our nexus came with absolutely no video player?

When I try to open a video file from astro, among the choices of program given to me is one called "movies"; this uses the same icon as the "gallery" proram, comes preloaded on the phone, and also fails to open most video formats.
Playing M4P via Meridian and it works great.

Let me look up meridian. I guess I am gonna have to convert from avi to the extension you mentioned.

Gallery is the video player.

So is the issue that the nexus s doesn't come with an xvid codec or that apps with software decoding of the codecs like rockplayer just need to be updated ? Sorry if I'm a little dense about this.
I guess the 3rd party apps need to be updated.

So is there a specific file type that the galley plays? I just created a movie folder with 2 avi files but gallery isn't showing anything other than pictures on the same storage.

M4P is a .h264 container. Most videos on the internet or torrents for phones come in M4P format. Best quality for the size.
Most phones can play M4P right out of the box. YouTube is a big supporter of the container.

quick question regarding the camera, how do you upload videos to picasa.
I went to the gallery and hit menu to get the option to share, but I only see the option there when its photos. I thought you can upload videos also.
I could not find a way to upload on mine. I have just used "Picasa Uploader" from the market. It's free and uploads video and pictures.

BTW did you check the videos you uploaded on picasa from your nexus?
I just uploaded one using the same app you said, and it seems that the quality is not the same than that which was taken on the phone. Its a much lesser one.

Rent the DVD from a Redbox /blockbuster kiosk, rip it to your computer, put it on your phone.
Videohelp.com has a bunch of guides and how-tos if you're a beginner.

DVD + Handbrake or
Blu-Ray + DVDFab HD Decrypter + Handbrake
Handbrake is free, the "HD Decrypter" component of DVDFab is also free
I posted a Handbrake profile that worked well on the Infuse ages ago, I'll try to dig it up.
use handbarke or format factory or super.
all are best and free.
will post settings later as right now running super.
Note:-infuse supports CABAC,H264/AVC1 (Keep profile max3),reference frames-2.
I've searched around, tried QQPlayer, Kascend, Rock Player and Mobo and none of them can play the files properly. Either there is no sound or way too much lag.
Dice Player seems to be the only option out there, so since I'm a cheap bastard I want to see if there is a free alternative out there before I shell out the five bucks.
Have you tried mplayer? It's the only way to go on a linux desktop. I'd venture to say it would do well on our phones.

Have you converted the files down to the res of the screen? Also for rockplayer you should try both the software and hardware decoding options before giving up

Nah, I hate converting videos. Use to do that when I had a PS3 a few years ago. Pain in the ass.

Yup, the only that works for me. I'm just going to stop being cheap and shell out the $5.
I can't believe it's this difficult to get .mkv support. It's 2011, who uses .avi or .mpg anymore? EVERYTHING you download in high def is an .mkv Playing these files should be like being able to play an .mp3
Have you tried MX Video Player, there is a trial version available
that has ads, but I liked it so much I paid for it. I have managed
to get it to play 1080 mkv, it supports dual core decoding...

Wow, hadn't heard of .mkv. It looks good though, I need to investigate further. I guess there are many conflicting commercial aspects to it. A bit like FreeBSD/Linux in their early days vs AIX/SunOS/HPUX.....

.mkv seems to be the standard with HD videos. I don't download anything unless it's 720p+ and every uploader chooses .mkv

Anyone know the answer to this?
Man, the Q&A section seems very empty these days. No wonder so many flow into General, lol.
way back in the day gtg said something along the lines of "it doesnt look easy" unforunately nobody has a better answer.
the problem is that its not simply mirroring the home screen. the mhl output seems to have a resolution independant of the screen and it interfaces with the video player to change resoluion of the output and turn off the phone screen when a high res video is played. so the video player and mhl drivers all interface in ways that the devs dont have documentation on and its not simple to reverse engineer. i dont think anyone has even waisted time trying. it also interfaces with the tw launcher. i wouldnt even know where to start. do you try to mod the app? do you mod the kernel to try to force mirroring? how is the launcher involved?
best bet is to download the movie in as high a quality as the 4gb file size limit will allow and watch it that way.

If you bought the movie, you could copy it from where mediahub stores it and just play it through video player and maybe the mhl adapter would work with the video player

Not sure if you guys know about JetAudio but it's one of the best media players available for PC's and has been my media player of choice for the past 7-8yrs. Plays almost any media file you need it to, is a file converter, audio trimmer, etc.......well now it's available for Android!

I have PowerAmp too, JetAudio is cool but i'm so used to PA that it's gonna take an exceptional experience to unseat it. This is kinda like the Zune trying to uproot the iPod.....Zune showed up just a little late to the party.
Yeah. It sounds really good, but for some reason it's not picking up the tags for my flac files so their all under "unknown artist".

Can't agree more bro, I have got these Sony MDRs that I have ordered from infibeam thinking they will be great, which they are, but i am surprised with the other sony headphones which i have won in one of those facebook contents, they are incredible, I believe Sony gives them away with Live with Walkman.
