[Q] Upgrading to One X on ATT prepaid? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am currently using an unlocked HTC legend on ATT's go phone/pre-paid $50/month plan. I am not paying the extra $15 for smartphone data. Everything is working great (including data), however I would like to upgrade my phone to the HTC One X. My question is: can I use a non-unlocked (locked to ATT) One X and just replace the sim card and still have everything work nicely like it does now? The phone I am looking at getting is one through amazon wireless which is $550 and locked to ATT's network. Thanks in advance for your help!

[Q] G1 to Droid?

Out of interest of upgrading on the cheap, would it be possible to use a rooted motorola droid on a tmobile g1 data plan? Google didn't really help. Mostly info about wal mart selling the g1 (lul?).
Friend is looking to sell his droid, and if I can switch with little or no issues from my provider, I'd be a happy guy.
Thanks for your info. Keep your negativity to yourself, please.
(same goes for switching to an N1...)
I'm in the UK so this not first hand.
The Droid is on Verizon right? (The Euro GSM version is the Milestone) and Verizon uses CDMA?
T-Mo in the US uses GSM? That would mean the Droid doesn't have the hardware to ever run on T-mo nor AT&T regardless of software
Just noticed the droid doesn't have a sim card slot? So would an N1 be an option, or should I just suck it up and buy a new phone?

[Q]AT&T + Unlock.....suggestions, please!!

Hi,
I've been using my HTC Inspire with AT&T with unlimited non-smartphone data for two or three months now. They called me and are now refusing data services with any of my phones. But that's not my question.
I want to know what AT&T considers as a smartphone as far as using an unlocked device. I want to sell my Inspire and use something unlocked from some other carrier [without data] that they will accept the IMEI for. How do I know what they'll consider a smartphone, so I can base my purchase on it?
Thanks,
Chris

[Q] Running Rogers One X on AT&T?

I'm wondering if anyone already has, or knows if there are any issues taking a One X from Rogers and using it on AT&T? Maybe it's SIM locked to Rogers or something? I see you can buy the Rogers One X without a contract and am considering doing that to use it on AT&T in the states.

Someone answered that question in my thread saying yes. And lte should work also. I might do this also since I just signed a contract for this phone so might as well return it and buy a rogers at full price

Thanks. I read the title of every Q&A post but only clicked through on those whose title indicated the subject I was asking about.
I just found a thread in General about using the Rogers phone on WIND and it seems pretty clear from reading it that the Rogers One X is SIM-locked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610323
It seems one could use something like http://www.cellunlocker.net/ to unlock it for $8... I'm just so, so, so disappointed that AT&T chose to disallow bootloader unlocking on their device while both the international and otherwise similar Rogers version can be bootloader unlocked just fine. I was thinking of getting a two year contract on AT&T, selling the unopened phone, then using that money to buy the no contract Rogers One X. Pay to SIM unlock it, add an AT&T APN and in theory I'll have an HTC One X running on AT&T LTE that can have it's bootloader unlocked.
LTE will work. As long as you have the LTE data plan and APN, you're good. I had an Optimus LTE from Bell and LTE was just fine when I was visiting family in Chicago in February.

the phone has been rooted!
thats the main thing i cared about
i need Titanium haha
hopefully the bootloader unlock isnt too far away (6 months?)

[Q] Can AT&T tell if your One X is Rogers?

:crying: Hello all,
As the title states the question is whether AT&T can identify the One X as a "smart phone" by inserting the dumbphone SIM, if it comes from Rogers network. There is another thread that speaks of using MediaNet to get unlimited data by using a NON-AT&T phone (see thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446373). But thats not my intent here.
My reason for asking is that I want to give my son the One X to use on his "dumbphone" plan for just text and talk, NO data except through wi-fi. It seems that using the above method would work since they apparently can't identify the IMEI as a smartphone because it came from another carrier. Will this work?? Someone must have done this already.
I'm also searching for a place to buy the Rogers version. I already bought the AT&T upgrade One X to sell on E-bay and use the money to purchase the Rogers version.
Again - Just looking to use the One X on AT&T with no data plan by basically "hiding" the IMEI from them and inserting the dumbphone SIM.
How 'bout it ?? any help appreciated!
Thanks,
joe

For one, if you are using your upgrade to buy and sell a phone without using it, then I strongly recommend you buy an iPhone. Resale value is very high and they are super easy to move.
Second, if he will never use the data, why not just get an international quad core One X instead of trying to get the Rogers one, which is essentially the same as AT&T version?
Or just get a Nexus 4.
Initially you may be able to fool ATT with a out of service IMEI, but if your son tries to access 3g or 4g data I'd imagine ATT would automatically sign you up for the 3 GB plan.

[Q] Global HTC One - Verizon

Hello, I have been itching to get my hands on the HTC One. I'm currently with Verizon and am considering buying an unlocked phone. Is it possible to get any One phone and have it work on the CDMA network? How do you do it? If I wait to get the Verizon One, will it be usable on any other networks? I thought about just getting it on contract, but I still have the unlimited data and north America texting so don't want to lose that. Plus, I may move to Canada (telus, Rogers, Bell) so would want an easy out from verizon as well as bring my phone with me.
Thanks
