[Q] Dropbox Promo on AT&T version? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Now that some lucky members are getting their AT&T One X's, it has come out that DropBox is not pre-installed. Could some lucky member verify that the DropBox app available in the Play Store will recognize that it is being ran through an HTC device, and so qualify for the free additional storage promo?
Thanks!

I've read from numerous sources online that you dropbox is not installed. However, if you get it from the market, it does recognize it as an HTC device and you will be granted the 25gb for 2 years.

I can upload an HD video shot with the One X directly onto my free Dropbox storage, correct? And if so, is there a size limit with individual files?

DB does not have file size limit.

But does the One X? For example, my iPhone can't email relatively short HD videos. I know emailing is different than uploading to Dropbox, but I just want to make sure I can shoot a somewhat long video with the One X and upload it to Dropbox with no problems.

You can also install SkyDrive from Google play and have 25GB more.

Skydrive is from Microsoft for Windows Phone users. Google has Google Drive, but its only 5GB right now... unless you pay for more.

I know, it is web based. I use it
If you have an Android or another phone, you can still use SkyDrive. Just open your phone’s web browser and go to SkyDrive.com. You might need to sign in with your Windows Live ID. Find the file or photo you’d like to view, and tap it.
Also ASUS has a 2gb cloud storage out also,https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DUwMSwiY29tLmVjYXJlbWUuYXN1c3dlYnN0b3JhZ2UiXQ..

For me it only shows 2.5 gb I don't know why :/

I started with my existing 2gig account too, but after you go thru a short orientation, you get 25 gigs. You have to do 5 of 7 steps to get the extra capacity. It does recognize that you have an HTC, but there you still have to do the 5 steps. Stuff like install Dropbox on a PC, upload a picture, etc.

You have to complete the 7 steps on the DB website to get the extra space. You should have gotten an email from DB telling you that.

All - to elaborate. If you are only seeing the 2GB limit on your phone go to the following url and complete 5 of the 7 and you will get your space.

I went through this, and it says congratulations you've just earn 23GB! And on the bottom you can now store up to 10.25GB (which is my original storage) on dropbox...
huh.
I guess, in short I still didn't get the 23GB...
Is there a customer service we can call/email or something?
Thanks.

I heard that if you used the cheat to get the extra storage from the hacked dropbox and it was taken away, you are blacklisted from earning extra space

Free 50GB Storage Via Box and LG

Hey guys just putting up a reminder that from November 30 to March 31, 2012 Box and LG are teaming up to offer 50GB of free storage.
I downloaded the Box app, registered, and a prompt popped up telling me I have 50GB of storage now.
http://pulse.me/s/3D34J
Via Android and me.
Pretty cool.

Since I had not heard of Box, did a web search to see who the company is. The surfed there on my G2x, got the Android App, signed up and got 50GB storage. The signup says 5GB but afterwards tell you 50GB. Have to sign up on your G2X or other LG phone.
I just downloaded the BOX app on the android market registered and received free 50GB on my T-mobile LG G2x. easy as that.
So you searched who it is.... care to tell us what you found??
Company seems reputable??

Yes, seems reputable. Startup by college students a few years ago with a lot of VC and high profile users

Reading comments on the Market. People are saying you can upload files but not download? If this is true, what's the point? Gonna test and see for myself...
Okay, so maybe the deebs on the market didn't notice the "save for off-live" button. Nice but needs a desktop client.

Awesome... couldn't other devices simply change their build.prop to make it like our g2x and get the storage?
Just strictly curiosity, simple yes or no is fine .

I just got my 50GB of file storage yesterday. 50GB more to add my pile of online storage!
This would be even better if they had the free file sync like Dropbox. All functions seem to work, however the multi-select stumps me.
thats good news. I will keep tracking of this.

Box is more secure than Dropbox, but doesn't have the as many options. There is public press on Dropbox security issues, while Box has a clean record so far.

Me too.... Worked like a charm. Fast and easy to setup.
Box is not there yet with the features but if enough people start using it and asking for features we'll eventually get there.
I only got 5gb g2x
I got this when the offer first surfaced and set up an account. I don't think I'll be using it much at all though.
-No Windows app/sync
-File Size limited to 100MB
To get sync and upgrade the size limit to 2GB it's a $20/month upgrade. Although I'm constantly reaching my 2GB dropbox limit, it's still just so much easier to use that.
thanks for the tip op, I got the 50GB.

What online storage do you use?

Ok have always, backed up my photos, into Google Picasa, but now reached my 1gig, limit, which means I have to purchase extra, so now, trying to look at other free, reputable online storage sites you use, preferably with loads of free storage. I also use dropbox, but only for files, so please share, what online facility you use thanks.
Why not use dropbox to sync your photos?

You know what even I have the same Google Picasa account with 1GB free storage however, after I created Google Plus account when it was launched it shows that I have used only 3% of the storage but it was about 95% before creating G+.
You may give it a try however, I'm not very sure if this helps you too but it is working for me.

Forgot to mention that I have about 10 Locked albums!!
There is SkyDrive with 25GB free of charge, but there is no official Android app (yet) although the mobile web site is pretty decent.
However I don't think there is any way to automatically upload your photos from an Android device to SkyDrive.
If you sign up with Google+, you get virtually UNLIMITED uploads into Google+/Picasa, as long as your photos are under 2048x2048 and videos are under 15 minutes each. If the photos are bigger than 2048x2048, Picasa will resize them automatically. I have literally 80 gigs of photos and videos on my account so far and I still only have a free account. In fact when I checked the amount of space I have used, it only shows 102 MB used out of a total of 1024. The Instant Upload feature is also great since it auto uploads all my photos and videos and puts it in the cloud, available for viewing on my computer almost immediately. Once they're on Google+/Picasa, I can immediately delete it from my phone to clear up space. This is one of the best reasons to be on Google+ if you're not already on it is to get the almost Unlimited storage and Instant Upload feature.

Bonus 23GB Dropbox storage promo lives for AT&T?

I just flashed the Nocturnal stock 1.88 Asia-based software release, and set up my accounts like normal, including Dropbox. To my surprise, I got the confirmation email that I received my 23gb bonus space from the HTC Sense 4.0 promotion, even though I'm on AT&T! I verified that the extra storage does show up in my account. Just letting folks know, hopefully it doesn't get taken away

Yes, but I was just posting this because AT&T chose to opt out of this dropbox promotion, so if you were were on the stock AT&T rom it was not possible to get this bonus storage. Looks like this method is more like a loophole to get around that limitation, for us AT&T customers at least.

AT&T and Verizon opted out of the HTC/Dropbox promotion around the end of May I think. So really it was the early adopters of the One X on AT&T that were able to take advantage of the extra free 23GB. I didnt get my phone until June so I never qualified.... Until I did this

Yep and basically makes the offer pointless unless you plan on paying the monthly fee afterwards.
I received 50GB free from Box for life, that's how a promotion should work.
Same deal happened to me flashing a Rogers rom to my att SGSIII. No bonus on stock rom, 48gb free once I opened dropbox in the Rogers rom, I have since flashed back to an att rom and still have the storage..

Plus the 10GB in Gmail and 1GB in Picasa
Has anyone still been able to get this to work with different ROM's? Specifically with CleanROM 4.5 RC1? I figured this would work being based off of 2.23 which isn't AT&T am I correct? But tried flashing again and signing in upon initial setup, and still haven't been able to get the 23GB.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

It seems if you are running a ROM that is not AT&T based like the Stock Nocturnal 1.88 Asia ROM that the OP mentioned, Dropbox thinks you don't have an AT&T device and gives you the promotion.
Haven't been able to get it to work myself yet, though I might be doing something wrong, or missing something.Tried with the Stock Nocturnal 1.88 and so far nothing.

There are steps that much be completed within Dropbox after you register on you GNote. Once you complete all the steps they upgrade you for two years. A quick search would have revealed this info.
BTW Not a pertinent or effective title since this is already the GNote forum..
