OK guys, heres what i did...i read and read and then i read some more, and i figured out how to install the one click ics leak, worked out fine, and i ended up with the I727ucld2,wich thru my reading, i figured is what i wanted...and i was happy..for about 10 minutes, now im hooked ..i needed a custom rom now...hehehe..so i read and read some more found out that i needed to be rooted in order to install a rom....the ics leak didnt do that for me...i read some more and foud out the basics of odin and the skyrocketCMWrecovery.tar,(clockworkmod-touch-5.8.1.3-hercules.tar) if all went well with odin i would be able to flash the superuser.zip file to my phone and get rooted...stay with me ..my question is coming...read some more and found the rom i wanted, (ICS_ SMOOTHIE) read all the instructions and by now was confident...i went for it....and BAM just like that 15 minutes later i was the proud owner of a skyrocket rooted and running a custom rom...by the way is awesome..ok hears my question,,i never backed up gingerbread before installing the leak or the rom...but afterward i ran a nandroid i think its called, from the clockwork recovery . and i have a backup file now on my phone....but for some reason im just not convinced it will save me if i start playing around some more, cause now im really hooked. how do i know my backup file will work? because i backed everything up after the leak and the rom..im not sure clockworkmod ,will be able to install the backupfile it saved ,rom manager from the market doesnt reconize my phone only the t-mobile one ,,and most people say not to use it???is that right / or should i use it with the t-mobile...sorry about all the writing but wanted you to know the whole story...hey thanks everyone ...been reading for days and couldnt have done it without you...

The nandroid WILL work fine. And as for ROM manager.... It's a no go for us. Only use it to fix permissions.... and only do that if you have problems.

You dont need to do anything with rom manager but fix permissions. Dont worry about flashing cwm with it, you already have it. but just so you know we would use the tmobile version because we don't have one.
The backup should work fine, if not, no big deal just odin the stock tar file from sammobile.
i think i saw that stock file somewhere in my searching, i might just go find it just in case...if i some how get messed up playing around ,your saying i can just boot into download mode in odin and install the stock tar?

You speak too fast !!!!
1. If you use ROM manager to "update" recovery, you do need the T mobile one.....BUT BUT BUT, it will throw you to an older version.......which may or may not give problems..............so forget it,.
2. Want to know if you nandorid works. Simple. Just go into CWM and restore it. Then you will know ! Seriously, if it buggers your phone, you can easily go back to stock. This is the only way you will ever sleep at night !!
How do I know? That is the only way I figured it out for myself my very first time !
Have fun !
i did just for giggles try and go back and restore it in cwm (was worried to do it cause my phone is working very very nicely) but i did and it gave me an error something about not being able to mount ex sd card ....thats what has got me worried...as you know there is not an ex sd card that came with the phone so everything was done on the internal one..and thats where the back up is stored with cwm....it gave me an option to just reboot and i did and everything is fine..but i still am left wondering if the backup will work when i need it.....will cwm be able to restore from internal sd card? it didnt when i didnt need it to but was that just because everything was ok to start with??

That "error" is normal about xet sd card. I have done nandroid backups to both external and intenal SD. Both work fine. The internal SD also is NOT deleted whn you wipe data etc. for flashing ROMs.
Again, since the ext sd backup works........the best way to know is to try. Create nandroid to internal card.....then restore from internal ! Bingo, now you know !
Another good option is to copy the backup to a computer. Then you can put is on to the ext sd card if anything evil happens.
Keep smiling !
Yes. Everything will be fine. Trust CWM. It has never failed.
On another note... ohmygod a respectable noob! ^.^

You have the wrong version i think. but that one has spaces between in the name, and Open recovery don't recognize a file with spaces. You simply change the name removing them. No spaces. But there is a newer version I think. I will look and post back, or you have a look its underneath you should find it.
**EDIT**
Here it is XT720 XDA special Stock Beta 2 with this update XDA_Special.zip
Or it looks like you have the right one, maybe sticking it in the wrong place. You have to unzip it first, then put it in /nandroid/openrecovery/ XT720 XDA special Stock Beta 2
I dont see any spaces in it.. i'll try another one and see if it works.. but even if that was the problem i should see something at least under the Delete section right ?
nvm my last post then, ill try and see if it work, and do i let the Update.zip at the root of the card ?
finnally got it working, i just made a nandroid folder as you said and openrecovery saw it.. everything seems to be good so far.. now im gonna have to figure how to make all those apps goes to my SD cards.. but well for now its bed time lol. Thx a lot man !! really appreciated
Leave the update.zip, it's necessary for OR.

regardless, I'm trying to install a cm7 rom so the bluetooth goes down to 2.1 instead of 3 so i can use my wiimote as a controller. i just finished rooting my phone and i was following the step by step trying to install the infused v2.0.2. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195571). I deleted the "voodoo" folder, reboot my phone and got the nice robot lady saying whatever she says... then she said "not enough space in pratition" which is ridiculous considering i have 9 gigs of free internal memory and a 16 gig sd card.
while browsing my files the "voodoo" folder is still there but the disable_lagfix folder isn't. im wondering if thats good enough to install the ROM.
Now, since the XDA video alredy called me a noob. i wana let my noob out so:

Well since your main focus is getting a wiimote going - give up for now.
There are no release-quality CM7 ROMs for our phones, and the only CM7 in existence has 100% broken Bluetooth.
Please, spend some time reading. You are talking about trying to get a CM7 ROM running, and then you link to Infused???

Try gtg's ultimate unbrick. Actually I think he has a stock rooted Odin package for the Rogers ROM which is closer to Infused v1.
If you can get into downloader mode, you're not bricked. And so far, only one person has managed to brick their device that badly, in the process of performing a dangerous experiment they volunteered for.
Im sure this isnt the first time this ha been asked, but i couldnt find it. I have an rooted infuse(AT&T), when trying to flas a new ROM it tells me that i need to flas CWM. I try to but it asks me to confirm phone model, the infuse is not listed. I havent picked another phone from the list because i didnt want to brick this one. Anybody know what might be wrong and how to fix it. THANKS

Try to read up a bit before you go on.
You need to select Samsung I9000 from the list.

Um....what are you doing? With CWM you're not using the ROM manager app right? You want to get into red recovery, that's what most instructions are talking about when they say cwm.
To get there: (if you have it)
Power off, then hold power button and volume up and down. (3 button)
Keep held, Samsung will come on, then turn off, when it comes on again let go of the buttons....should go into red recovery. That's where to flash roms from. Good luck.
X,
Sent from Mt. Olympus
yup. Pick i9000 and flash. also check out GTG's Infused ROM OP!! VERY useful info to get you started.
other than people telling you to read this whole thread fails.
OK you can use cwm from rom manager for the i9000. but first you need to replace the recovery binary with a modded one. that needs root.
search dev section on cwm fully working... or something to that matter. also search YouTube. YouTube is great for any type of DIY activity including Modding your phone.
there is an alternative to this by flashing the community kernel or the defuse kernel in Odin or heimdall. that not only doesn't need root but will root your phone, enable voodoo lagfix, and give you red cwm. there is a one click heimdall package for the defuse kernel. personally I disable voodoo beforehand to speed up the process. to do this open the sdcard and create a folder and subfolder having the path /sdcard/Voodoo/disable-lagfix
to be clear you don't create /sdcard that already exists. it is the root of the SD card. if you use the built in file manager it wont show as /sdcard but will be "home" or something.
so open my files or other file manager, navigate to home which is normally the sd card, if not navigate to /sdcard and create a folder named "Voodoo" capital "V" then open Voodoo and create "disable-lagfix" once that is done you can flash the defuse kernel or the community kernel. then flash a rom then if it all goes well reboot into red cwm and enable lagfix and reboot again. it takes a while and the phone talks to you in sexy female robot voices for a while.

I never had an inspire but there is no way this is harder. there is no locked nand on Samsung devices. just a weird recovery that is easy to work around on froyo since it was so easy to root. future devices will get increasingly hard but you have to understand that Samsung isn't taking anti-flashing measures like HTC and Motorola it is security measures to prevent exploits for being used in malware, things are getting harder because it is getting harder to root android. at some point the only way to flash is gonna be to wait for a leaked rom, edit the images and then flash. or some complicated way we haven't seen yet.

np.
IF you're looking to go from froyo to a gb rom,
I suggest starting here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381
learning how to flash with heimdall is pretty simple.
Flash it once in download mode. Flash it again with the bootloaders box checked.
reboot and you're in uckj4.
Then flash the kernel to give you recovery
then flash the gb rom you want...
there are other methods...it's a matter of prefs
Ok, so this is my first post. Been lurking for a while and doing a lot of learning. First rooted my NS 4G about a month ago. No problems at all. Well today, I was gonna flash CM9 rom but researched it a little first. I read where it said factory wipe and format. So thats what I did but I think I did a little something to much. All I can do is get into bootloader and the recovery. I have nothing on my SD cardexcept root.zip, to flash and I can't put anything on it cause it won't connect to the computer. Someone please tell me how to get this fixed. I'm gonna try the odin route and see if that does anything. I've searched and that seems to be the way to go. Wish me luck on that and someone who is more experienced knows a better solution, please tell. Just please don't tell me I'm screwed.
type fastboot flash recovery twrp-crespo-2.0.0RC0.img in cmd, in the correct folder.
Download that from this page: http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-root/how-to-root-nexus-s-or-nexus-s-4g-on-ics-or-gingerbread/
Once you flashed, go to recovery and this will get you into team win recovery project. From there choose mount and mount your sd card. Copy your rom into your sd card and than unmount. Go back and choose install and install your rom. If your rom required google apps, flash that too. Once your done reboot your system and bobs your uncle.
Thanks for the reply. I actually went the odin route, which I was then able to go back to completely stck and start over again. Glad I got it figured and to be honest, I probably jumped the gun in asking for help, but man I got worried when I couldnt do anything with it. Keep up all the great work everyone. About a month and a half ago, I never knew what rooting was. Now I can't wait for new updates on roms and kernels, to come out.
First to all, ahi to everyone here.
My long story short, I've been lurking around this forum all day long. I finally mustered the courage to root my stupid infuse and decided to go with LiquidSmooth.
I come from from 2.3 (original official Gingerbread release) and I was following some steps to root it first (which I managed to do, somehow...) and i was following the next to upgrade it to ICS and then JB... but my f*(#@^$cking browser decided to crash, and now I'm unable to find the thread again.... (i've been looking for hours)
Please if someone can point me to the right direction?? Like I said i rooted it already.... and everytime I keep trying to get the ICS rom, all i get is a red menu (CWM i think??) but I can't find the rom anywhere. Help!??
Thanks to all.
If you downloaded it already, it would be in the download or downloads folder on your SD card. But since your browser crashed, you may want to re-download it, just to make sure it actually downloaded.

does anyone know if there's still a way to save my phone or can i smash it to little pieces by now?

Good advice right here as flashing a ROM that may be corrupted (even though CWM should see it and abort the install) can and will cause problems. Re download the ICS ROM then make a new folder in your internal SD card and place the ROM in it for easy finding.
Remember though, you have to boot into ICS at least ONCE before installing a JellyBean ROM.
Good luck
If you still find yourself stucked at the samsung logo, you may want to go back to stock with odin or heimdall, and also flash the GB bootloaders which you probably don't have, depending on how you upgraded to GB.
Then flash entropy's dd kernel to get cwm back.
There is a link to a guide on How to flash JB on my signature. Follow that and should reach JB safely.
