[FONT][GUIDE] How I managed to change the ICS Font (Full Guide) - HTC Sensation

So, i have been trying to change my ICS Font, Roboto (which in my opinion) is the essence of boredom packaged as a TTF file, and it's why i'm here wanting to help you out to get it out of the way since I had a few hurdles to overcome.
At first I tried these 2 apps which had worked rather well in Gingerbread
- Font Installer *Root*
- Font Changer (root)
At first you might think these work, however they only manage to change the Regular (not-bold, not-italic, not-bold-italic) font of ICS, and you will end up having your desired font on most of the text but still Roboto-Bold on bold text. It is also possible to cause your ICS not to boot up.
Next...
Upon looking things up on google I landed on this page.
Seemed quite straight forward, download, reboot to recovery and install via CWM. But, when life wants to slap you in the face, it will (that's my version of Murphy's law)
That's what I did and once I rebooted... surprise surprise... still on Roboto font, I had already inspected the zip files on my PC and they did contain the different font, so I'm assuming something went wrong that caused the files not to be copied.
If this worked for you, you can stop reading. Enjoy your new font.
Then I installed Root Explorer, and this is how I finally managed to get this damn font changing to work.
I had already downloaded some font packages from here. Apparently it was essential that I use the files contained in these font packages. The TTF files in these zip files were altered using 3rd party software to make them compatible with Android, and since this is not a guide on how to alter fonts I won't go into that.
So, just pick a font package from that forum and extract the 4 ttf files in it somewhere in your sdcard, you should be looking at these 4 files.
Roboto-Bold.ttf
Roboto-BoldItalic.ttf
Roboto-Italic.ttf
Roboto-Regular.ttf
Using Root Explorer copy-paste them to /system/fonts/
At this point your phone might start to act strangely. Sometimes it keeps working properly, sometimes it hangs for a few seconds, and sometimes all text turns into chinese. No problem, just reboot, pulling out the battery works fine aswell.
Once back in Android go back to Root Explorer /system/fonts/ and change the permissions of the 4 Roboto files you just copied, since i was lazy i simply put the permissions to "rwxrwxrwx", rebooted and finally it worked, if you're anal about permissions then set the permissions like the other font files in /system/fonts/
My personal choise was a font called Coconut Medium
I hope you find this guide useful, and sorry for the long wall of text :\
Edit: if anything a bit unclear let me know and i will update it to make it easier to understand

Sent from my EVO One 3D using the XDA Premium App.

What I did was, download the zip, extract the 4 font files, place the 4 font files in data/app folder (this is the folder where you find your market installed apps), change the permissions to all 4 font files, place the 4 files in system/fonts, and reset.

Some way, how implement czech characters? Like "ř" and "č" dissapered. Other characters from czech are shown good.

First of all, thank you for that guide. Although I figured it out myself (just like you I tried out apps, saw that only Regular was replaced, "adb pull /system/font" to see which font was mine -> saw I needed Bold/Italic/... as well ^^).
What helped me most is you mentioning "make them compatible with Android" and posting the link to that guide.
Up to now a few fonts I wanted to try didn't work, the phone (One X in my case) just hung at bootscreen and I couldn't figure out why, so I needed to boot into recovery and copy "working" fonts via adb. Turns out they didn't have correct font "weight" and "design" declared in the font-properties. A friend of mine (design student) added those properties for me in a minute, and it works now Maybe this information might be helpful for others who might stumble upon the same problem.

thanks

I did replaced my native font with Roboto- Regular. I can read all my native font now.
But I have a little bit problem, the fonts in Settings menu are disappeared now.
Any idea?

I'm very sorry but i have no idea why it wouldn't work completely :\
It seems to have worked to plenty of other users.
Maybe you could try taking a full backup install a different rom and try changing font again just to see if it's an issue with the rom of your choice.
But it seems like a lot of work.

Getting some Cyanogen settings on Free X10

First off, I want to say that I did not create any of the files I have posted, ALL credit goes to zdzihu and TripNRaVer for creating both of these awesome roms.
If either of you two have a problem with me posting this please let me know, I will take it down.
Ok, I'm not that experienced with android, so if something doesn't work for you I can't see myself being that useful.
Note: This was done on zdzihu's Free X10 Beta 3 using some of the .apks from TripNRaVer's Cyanogen Mod ROM.
EDIT: Works for Beta 4 as well.
ehmi has modified the services.jar to allow the notifications to be changed.
go here for the updated version.
Thanks to XperiaX10iUser for an easier way to install this.
1: Backup your system with xRecovery (in my opinion this should ALWAYS be done before replacing/changing any settings/.apks you or your phone may find important).
2: Download .zip here. (Dead link, use ehmi's version)
3: Install with xRecovery as custom .zip
It seems that the status bar and notification text color can't be changed in the menu, BUT the clock CAN be changed to any color you like. So far all the other settings I have tried work.
Again: ALL I did was take the .apks from TripNRaVer's ROM, all credit goes to him and zdzihu.
... Ok... maybe this would have been better posted in the X10 android development forum
The attached file is just for reference now (The attached .zip will not work in xRecovery, it is a plain old zip file).
Just use XperiaX10iUser's method (thanks again) as it is better.
Any chance of these working on a stock SE Rom, or do these require 2.2 minimum?

Make sure JIT is enabled, dithering will make gradients smoother, but slow down your phone. I'm not sure how locking things into memory will affect benchmarks. And I hear that changing the VM heap size can speed things up (booting at least) but that is beyond me and I will not pretend to know what I am talking about here.
Also, after you make a change in there you have to reboot.
I turned dithering on and actually lowered my quadrant score, but my gradients do seem nicer.

Completely Transparent Notification Bar and Pull Down Menu
Finally I have got able to make Notification Bar, Pull Down Menu and Apps Notifications in Pull Down Menu fully Transparent
I have also used one of the most Beautiful Icons at a few places and I am sure you all will love them. These have been created by Vukandric and I am very thankful to him. He is a very nice person. Thanks buddy !
If everyone like them I will try to completely port his theme to our phones.
Feedbacks, suggestions, appreciations and healthy criticism are most welcome.
I am not perfect but I am learning fast for my friends here.
Enjoy my friends !!!
Hello everyone,
After some struggle and lot of nervous moments finally I have some great news for all of you reading this here. I have added some very cooool animation effects to our phone. I have also made the Notification Bar pull down Transparent. Hope you all like it !
Next To-do :
1. Transparent Notification Bar - DONE
2. Replacing Icons - DONE
3. Create entirely new Design.
If you like my work and I get enough response I will add different animations and post here.
I have not created the animations themselves. I don't remember the name of the creator or the link but Credit to him.
Install Instructions :
1. Get your device Rooted. How to ROOT easily
2. Install Root Explorer.
3. Give Root Explorer Super User Permission.
4. Transfer my Framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk to your phone
5. Replace both files in /system/framework
6. Reboot
7. Enable All Animations in Settings>Display>Animations
8. Enjoy !
As usual, YOU DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.
Now enjoy guys !!!

Congrats Buddy, Finally you succeeded in bringing first theme mod to I9003. your efforts are appreciated But I would suggest noobs, not change the system files and accidentally brick the phone until they decide to upgrade to KB3. The chances of bricking may be very very low as you have confirmed, but you never know how is your time.
Is it possible to connect the phone with ADB in recovery mode? I mean did you try that? It may be helpful for ppl who wants to replace the original Framework files and get the phone back in working condition.

Are you rooted? If yes, Did you mount the system files in R/W mode from rootexplorer before trying to replace the files?
I just checked with the default recovery mode there is no ADB interface available but there is an option to update the zip from SDcard. Then may be we need to work towards the update sdcard zip in case of any brick to replace original files. Any thoughts on this anyone else?
@trip
Update.zip is surely a good option but we are still far from any use of it. Moreover that method is not recommended for beginners.
May be soon we have some complicated stuff that need to be flashed
@cakvid
Yes, mount the /system/framework as RW in Root Explorer.
Parse error is due to corrupt download. Plz download again.

I tried copying the file and was successful - amazing job done in the animation effect
But i need a favor now - before overwriting the files - i forgot to take the backup of the stock files.
Will someone be kind enough to share both the stock (original) files.

Rosie with remaped personalize button for browser + transparent 5x5 app drawer
This was developed for the EVO 3D, but works perfect on the Sensation.
To install:
Download the two apk files
You need to push them to system/app via file explorer - set permissions - reboot
Enjoy
Remember to make a copy of your original Rosie.apk
It is also a good idea to install another launcher from market, just in case something goes wrong. It would be hard to fix without a working launcher.
This was never my work, I just downloded the ROM to get these two files. But you could thank me anyways

i stand corrected, the works AMAZINGLY on a stock TMOUS scrubbed rom! this is fantastic!
the only problem was that a few widgets refused to load, but just remove them, re add them, and they come back with no issues!
*NOTE - you MUST put rosie.apk and misfitrosie.apk in the system/app folder with the following permissions:
User: read & write
Group: read
owner: read
make sure you reboot WHILE STILL IN YOUR FILE EXPLORER, otherwise it will either revert to original, or sense just wont load...

one question though, how'd you mod the smemo apk and make the mod stick? i was changing some png's inside using 7zip, nothing else, and just pushing the apk back to the system apps folder but my modifications do not reflect. am i missing a step here?
Works good for the notes that are made from within the smemo application.
However still the same for notes that are made by opening a new note by tapping the screen twice with the pen

thanks I'm at 240dpi and your work is much appreciated
But I think that the work is not entirely finished..
As you can see, in some (3) wallpaper, there are still 5 brown lines
Maybe it's ok to 260, but you could fix for the 240 density
also a correct mini-notes would be much appreciated (SMemoLite.apk)
Can someone be so kind as to post the original s-memo apk (without density change) for me? I lost one of the default images--the building one--by accidentally deleting it but I like it a lot. Many thanks in advance.
Missed the post, I was looking for solution since the day I got my Note.
I did a same mod just today
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19678283&postcount=13
this should work with 200dpi+
Enjoy

Nicely done! Also not my style but good to know this is here!
I currently have magiclocker installed as a replacement lockscreen because of the no caller ID on the lockscreen issue.

Man... i wish i was as good as you are... ..
i don't know what's the taste of people...really hard to guess... I spent atleast 5 hours to look for icons on web and resize and incorporate them coz i was totally new to theming stuff...
well i m it out of it for now due to lack of positive feedback ....
atleast it will open doors for others who want to try themselves...
Will upload source files and method of how to do it so that people can do that themselves...

I do appreciate the work that you have done so far.
Taste is different on each person.
Neutral ones are always nice for a lot of people.
A method would be nice so that some people can make that special ones.
Can't wait to start on it
not as good as yours but I tried

How come everytime i put the framework file in te framework folder my phone restarts and then get stuck at the rom logo.
I then have to flash my rom again to get my phone started.
I did everything you said on the how to.

i hope you are not using framework.res.spk file from some other ROM.. Extract it from the ROM you are running... incompatibility issues can cause it
Secondly, makes sure it's png file format... find the files in my sample zip inside your framework file with same name... Use them as your base and edit them... Don't resize any png file and save uncompressed.. Should work easily...

I just had the same. I thought I had previously had it working with a 4.0.3 based ROM but maybe not ...... re-flashing the ROM now
And don't forget to set permissions correctly...
