Hey guys anyone know some good settings for android Wi-Fi tether 3.1 to work on the charge..
I saw somewhere to use fascinate as the device profile and change to digital for Samsung, but that has never worked for on any 3.1 versions, so Ive used 2.0.7 since I found Wi-Fi tether...
If anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it thanks

Uncheck wifi driver reload and choose the Droid Charge profile. Make sure you uncheck that box though, otherwise you'll have to reboot to get wifi back.

One big advantage I see is that the new version is in the Play Store, so no more bother with sideloading. It'll autoupdate this way as well.
So Verizon is allowing us to download that version? Sounds fishy don't you think?

When does Verizon come into the transaction at all? Play Store is Google.

I understand Play Store is Google. I had the impression that carriers can block certain apps from appearing in the Play Store. When I was on sprint they blocked wireless tether app. I'm probably wrong about Verizon.

Google had pretty much blocked all tethering apps from the Market for a while, but they've started popping back up again. Not sure why the change in policy, unless they've just decided to stop letting the carriers dictate their internal policies.

Never really understood why google would be behind removing certain apps, yet you google the app apk and easily download it.

I love wifi tether with unlimited data...it's just like being hooked up to HSD at home.
FoxFi works fine for me. Don't have to deal with rebooting on the wifi tether app.

I use Wifi Tether and I don't have to reboot either. It's as simple as unchecking a box in the config. I don't trust FoxFi. Anything that uses the built in tethering is going to automatically be easier to detect than something like Wifi Tether or Open Garden.

I've been searching and reading and I can't seem to find which Android wifi tether works best for our phone.
I went to google and it doesn't say galaxy S 4g so I'm not sure which apk download is safe to use on our phone. I know our phone is different from the vibrant.
Does anyone know which version works best on our phone?
What are you using and how do you rate it?

But also there are various other apps in the market. just search and u will find and dont forget to check what others have to say about the app you intend on downloading. Some suck some dont.

Sorry to shove this question in here but since this seems like the right topic. Is there an app that will allow access to NAT(network address translation) settings? As usual samaung nor t-mobile could be of any help. I was told rooting would get me the access I need to deal with such a matter. Was this b.s. or is there a way?

LMFAO!!!! Seriously! Wow. The hardware manufacturers that create locked bootloaders could care less about wireless tethering. The dumb pipe cell companies are the only ones that care about it. The locked bootloaders are so you cant screw with their bloated overlay. IMO.

You can just download it from their site here.

Should be available from the market if you turn on airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi. It is the wireless carriers that are causing gathering apps to be filtered from the market, this should work around it, though.

Depends on what you are doing. Overall if you are just tethering to your computer PDAnet is your best bet. Xbox or PS3 (Ha if they ever get their network back) I would stay with Wireless Tether for root users.

If that's the case, has anyone been able to get wired tether (better anyway, data remains active on the device) to work? The htc tethering app seems to interfere.
Wireless tether works fine.
When I used "wireless tether for root users" my data was still active? I was able to make calls and reply to an email while being connected with a laptop.
I don't use it very often which is why I can't justify the extra cost per month. I had purchased "tether" while it was 50% for my blackberry for the same reason. They have that for android now to so that is an option for people.

It certainly does seem too easy. Brilliant solution if it works though.
Easy test, turn it off, try to use another tethering app.
I am debating between doing and not doing the update because I like the free WiFi hotspot; I can be cheap
Can someone with the update try it?
I tried freezing it with titanium backup Pro, but it just rendered the mobile hotspot inoperable.

Only difference that I can tell is Wireless tether for Root Users doesn't work and Wifi Tether for Root Users does. They both look the same but the latter has an additional option to change device profile and switching that to Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) allows it to work.

tank you...nice post
If I'm not mistaken from a convo with Mr Verizon Store Guy, they stopped charging for tethering because of the rediculous amount of workarounds for close to every device that render their paid service pointless.
However, I heard somewhere online theres a clause for abusing the network in you end user contract associated with fees, but I'm not sure and didn't look into it too much. I don't use it too much and am not worried about my limits (cue wifi), so it'd prolly be wise to check yourself.
Long story short: search around as there are a number of ways as previously outlined. But should you choose to go bananas and over indulge in torrents or roms via 3g/4g, be aware of a potential bill the size of congressional legislation. Tether responsibly as bandwidth is shared by all network users. Don't be THAT guy

Hello All. I've searched the forum and have seen many threads about tethering, but I can't find the answer to my specific question...or maybe I'm blind and am just missing it, in which case, I apologize for posting something that has already been answered.
Anyway, I want to tether with my verizon S3 but of course I don't want to pay extra for data I pay for already, nor do I want to root my device, at least not yet. I've heard many things that verizon can't charge for tethering if you have a tiered plan, but when I try to use the built in mobile hotspot it says I am not subscribed and to call verizon. Am I missing something? Didn't there used to be a built in wifi tethering functionality into android?
More specifically, I want to tether my Nexus 10.

I'd prefer to not root my phone right now. Also, I used to use FoxFi on my Bionic, yes I owned one of those, and it worked great. So I tried it on the S3 (no root) and I couldn't get the Nexus 10 to find the tethered wifi network I set up.
neither require root. clockwork does require to install a program on your comp, might not work for you. check out foxfi.

Yeah problem with CWM tether is that I don't want it for the computer...want it for the Nexus 10 tablet. And FoxFi's network it creates can't be found by the Nexus 10 for some reason.
Yea Foxfi is no root need bro. Just keep playing with it I have had to mess around a few times with settings but always got it. I my first recommendation is keep security off for your first connection then after you connect try it with security.
