[Q] Samsung SCH-r920 Metro PCS lock issues - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Ok heres the deal.
My friend sold me this Phone.
Its sch-r920. With CDMA/LTE
Has bad imei and no sim card.
I used qxpc and dfs. I can get it identified which was a pain
Until I changed usb setting to modem from pda.
Now I can connect. And it will let me change phone number
And prl lists and everything except the emei.
It says bad code. And the spc I have works.
It works on all programs.
In dfs the spc lets me read and write everything but emei.
There is no nv_bat. It has the efs folder.
I am not concerned with LTE. I just want the 3g and the phone to work.
metro wont get 4g in this area in my lifetime.
When I check engineering mode it has sp lock and net subset lock and the two others.
Are those lock just for the LTE network?
Or is that effecting my emei writing?
I went through this forum but not much on this model.
I never had a problem with cdma but this is a hybrid phone,
So its new to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ive been reading for a week.
I love learning more but it would be nice if someone threw me a bone.
And im not afraid of hex editing, just cannot find the file to edit.
Thank You so much for reading and feel free to pm me.

Q9c info and questions

so I have posted to this board a few times before but its been a while. I am currently working on a sprint q9c to get it over to verizon. flashed it already but cant get cdma workshop or qpst to see it on the port. can connect to port but when I go to read the phone it says failed to respond or no phone. anyone know how to get qpst or cdma workshop to see the phone? tried a virtual port but no go.
on another note, talked to a tech supervisor at verizon today and she confirmed they will still add phones from other carriers if you can get the tower to pick it up. she said "not all phones and not all carriers". I cant get my phone to connect to the *228 for verizon to get it to send the ESN. again any ideas?
**UPDATE**
okay, updated PRL and the phone can now talk to the verizon network. just need to see if the esn will make into the system so I can add the device, if not I will have to try other measures.
helppppp!!!!!
I have searched and searched and searched, used google, ask, bing, everything. I just want to get my sprint q9c onto verizon. I have flashed the rom updated the prl and verizon says they will not add this phone. I am left with cloning the esn from my original Q to my Q9c. I have looked and searched everywhere for directions on how to do this and can find nothing. I have radiocomm, rsd lite, rsd general, unicdma, qpst, bitpim, cdma workshop, ceregedit, cdma universal and no directions on how to do the ESN change. I am pulling my hair out! I have been searching for 3 days for some info on how to do this. please help, I am begging someone....

[Q] HELP!! Evo Shift on boost. No internet even though authenticated.

When I first put my shift on boost, I used my sprint touch pro, which was already on boost, as donor and copied the meid/esn but nothing else. When it OTA activated, 3g was working great for a few months(i guess off the previous sprint user's account, but I incorrectly assumed it was from the hands free). Recently it had dropped down to 1x only and ##debug# showed 2-authentication failed. I Tried copying the ha/aaa from the touch pro but can't get them both with QXDM, and I spent hours looking through nvitem dump trying to find them.
So, I bought a rant and had my service transferred there. Zeroed esn/meid with the qmat script, new meid/esn, ha/aaa secrets, and all settings from rant to shift. Now it says 1-authenticated, but no internet at all. Also, i can't hands-free activate it anymore. If I do it will lose mdn, msid, and ha/aaa secrets and i will have to restore settings in QPST service programming from a previous save. Before I switched to the rant I could OTA program fine.
Anyone have any ideas? Help is much appreciated at this point. I am desperately in need of internet on my phone bc I am a consultant and constantly having to email clients on the road.
Switching back to the touch pro is not really an option bc it is a sprint TP and the esn is still a sprint esn. I bought it preactivated. I know it's still a sprint esn bc every time I called boost they told me it was a sprint esn.
Thanks in advance! I need help!

I don't have any experience with Boost personally but I did run across this recently and remembered your post.

Cdma unlock r530m

Im certain I'm posting this in the wrong area, but I am thus far, unable to locate a specific thread for the evil MetroPCS Galaxy s3....or any generic CDMA thread. (That & I'm about as tech savvy as a rhinoceros)...
Im trying to 'unlock' (?) an SCH-R530m.. (the cdma GS3 with the infamous 14 digit imei/esn) so I can reuse it with MetroPCS.
I was stupid & tried to do the right thing when I lost... then found my phone. I called ins company and confessed the truth, that I found it....I sent back the one they'd sent me & in the end, I basically ended up with nothing, cause they LOCKED my original (lost... then found) phone & refused to unlock it! Yep, even after I returned the replacement... oh I now know that no good deed goes unpunished)...
Anyway, I just want to reuse it with Metro. That's it.. But when I get to the last step... (as described, below).. I can't get any further.
I type in:
1. *#22745927
2. *#197328640# and it brings up the factory service menu (very usefull)
3. Select (1) UMTS
4. Select (1)Debug Screen
5. Select (8) Phone Control
6. Select (6)Network lock
I get option in this menu, so I type in 11863", wait for about 60 secs (instructions say to then 'go back) but I cannot go back. Once I type in 11863 I'm unable to go any further....
I'm desperate here. I've literally been looking for an answer for 8 months.
Id appreciate any help!
Thanks.

Ahhhh......you forget MetroPCS is BOTH CDMA and GSM, at least right now.....remember, my question shows this was an actual Metro phone and was a CDMA....which they dont even offer anymore.... Anyway, I should have actually used the term unblacklist rather than unlock.....
Also, I already figured out how to do it, myself....6 months ago
Thanks for the response, though! Id been looking on occasion to see if anyone had bothered to answer it. I think I posted this way back.like last Oct or something.....

i would like some info on what/how you did this. did you "sim" unlock the phone, or just re-allow it to be used on Metro through them?
looking to actually get mine on T-Mobile...
Paid some guy locally $25 to flash another 4g phone's ESN onto it.
That said... I lost the 4g on it. It worked fine otherwise. I could send/receive MMS and had zero problems.

d2vzw: Unflash from PagePlus procedure

Starting this October, PagePlus is offering 4G/LTE. Initially, I was assuming that all I need to do is plug in an LTE SIM card and activate account, and all will be peachy. However, it seems that by flashing phone to pageplus when it looks like a 3g device, I have messed up some radio settings, and verizon provisioning doesn't work, phone repeatedly keeps trying to call *228. Contrary to that, the other S3, which I didn't flash does not call at all, but instead pops up message box stating that the phone is being programmed, and after a couple minutes it's online . I do not remember what exactly did I program, it was awhile ago . Pageplus support knows that problem, and they are advising anybody who wants to go LTE to bring up an unflashed phone, saying the flashed one won't work
There are folks on kitty forums who offer remote de-flashing for 30 bucks, but no description what actually they do. Does anyone know what the process is? I can get my phone into QPST/DFS. Anyone knows what to do next?
UPDATE: see post #3 for solution
Can't help you with deflashing, but I will tell you that my local page plus vendor did mine for free and it only took him about 5-10 minutes. Maybe yours would do the same. Just a thought.

I guess it indeed is simple once you get to QPST mode. I used DFS to program, and the only setting I had to change was RuimConfig = RuimOnly (from NV_ONLY), see screenshot attached. Did not work on 4.0 firmware which I tried to use first, but worked fine on 4.2.1 and 4.1.2.
I got a sim card for my phone. All I did was verify that my phone was on RuimOnly (it already was), then I contacted PagePlus to activate my simcard (you're supposed to do this before you put it in your phone, they say) and they remotely programmed the phone, everything went smoothly. I have 4g data now, no "unflashing" required. Pretty easy. :good:
You put it on your phone before, you want this set up, then you can use the phone, so no problem.
Confirmed
I can confirm this works. I switched 2 samsung galaxy note 2 SCH-i605 from 3g to 4g.
The phones were originally flashed over to pageplus using wireless workshop. This puts them on pageplus as 3g phones. They drop the last digit of the MEID so it is a 14 digit code (3g) instead of 15 digit for 4G.
Here's what I did to get 4G LTE working.
Ordered a pageplus SIM card from pageplus
put the simcard in the phone
Used DFS to change RUIM from NV_Only to RUIM_only
Contacted Pageplus on chat and had them change my phone from 3g to 4g. I'm not sure exactly what they did, but I gave them the 15 digit MEID and the SIM ICCID (printed on the sim card you get, or look in settings, about device, details or something like that, you know where to look. ) The customer service rep said that what you need to tell them is you want to change a 3g phone to 4g. I told them it was back to standard firmware just to make them happy. It seems the RUIM changes is all you need.
Voila! Reboot the phone, give it a minute - it connects to 4G and then disconnects and looks like it has failed, but give it a minute and it comes up with 4G LTE and speedtest.net confirms it is blazing fast.
Loving it!
This is only required for a verizon phone that has been flashed in the past to make 3g work on Pageplus. Not needed on contract phones from verizon that are originally 4g.
Happy downloading!

Gift for a friend
hi everyone,
I have a few questions based on my circumstances. I just deactivated a S3 Verizon from PagePlus which was flashed to 3g. I would like to hand my phone off to a friend as he's running a Droid X (!).
1. From what I understand to "unflash" I need to use DFS (cdmatool.com) and set Ruim config to RuimOnly. However, I believe the phone needs to be in QPST mode? I'm not entirely sure how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2. Since I already deactivated the phone, when my friend tries to re-activate on pageplus (with a new SIM), do we need to contact PP and tell them this device is now 4g?
3. Does it matter that I have a custom ROM running 4.3? I don't think so, but would like confirmation.
I really don't want to mess up this gift.
Thanks for any and all advice!

In general, this is done via USBSettings dialog, see if this thread helps you to get this menu enabled: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227576
I have a i605 currently flashed to page plus 3g can't write with dfs without spec and I can't seem to get it can anybody point me in the right direction
I'm dumb figured it all out except page plus they keep saying I have to go to a dealer I said I am no longer flash but they keep telling to have a dealer manually flash it.....?
Update got everything working once I was in ruim only I called them at told them I had two phones and gave them the full imied as my second phone then the iccid and voila activation was a breeze

[Q] OPO on T-Mobile - 2nd OPO, same problem - network connection issue

Hello all,
Back again.
I'm trying to get my "2nd" OPO to work on T-Mobile USA.
First of all, it is not a SIM issue. I have 2 microSIMs that can be used freely across all T-Mobile enabled devices.
Once I try to connect to T-Mobile, it gives me a "Your SIM card doesn't allow connection to this network".
I tried the 'unlock the basebands/LTE process', got as far as ADB talk, but I cannot execute the su command, so the setprop does not work.
And this is my 2nd phone, a replacement from OPO. 2nd month running already. The 1st one had the same issue, but at the time I did not do research on tinkering with it,
and was 'NAIVELY' believing in OPO's customer 'service'.
Took me 2 weeks just to get 2 basic replies of "tech support", which didn't help since they gave me rather weak tech suggestions - 1st suggestion was reset, 2nd suggestion
was to look at the T-Mobile thread (I cannot connect to network, so how do you expect me to connect to APN?!?) . Then took them 3 weeks to go through the RMA process,
and yet another 2 weeks to send me a replacement(not).
Any assistance appreciated.
Check your imei on the tmo compatibility site. It could be blocked. Dumber things have happened. Double check that the SIM is installed properly. Second replacement and multiple sims seems to point at something you are doing.

Thank you for your response!
Yes, the IMEI is not recognized on t-mobile. Which is stupid since this is the second one (the 1st one had the same issue too).
Has anyone else gone through this frustrating experience? To have two OPOs whose IMEIs are not recognized is...... well.... $!%#!. :silly:
SIM installations are fine. I have done them multiple times, with the same results.

Future reference no need to create a new thread to ask the same question as before. You should of just continued your first thread so others would know what you have been going through and what was done to try and fix it. Glad you got it sorted or did you....

Got it.
Unfortunately no. Second OPO, same issues again. IMEI is not supported either. So, Groundhog Day here.
I'm with you man. I left vzw for T-Mobile and struggled like hell with getting the OPO working properly on it. From loaner phones to multiple sims, they/we tried everything. End result was to leave for at& . The signal is strong, but yet I keep missing calls daily. This beauty is going up on eBay. I just can't take it anymore. Sucks because Dev involvement is Huge here
Register and activate your phone with T-Mobile... I had the same issues for MetroPCS, and that fixed it.

I dont have any issues with network on Tmo, but what do u mean by register and activate ?
What I am saying is, you need to contact your carrier and get your IMEI entered into their system in order for the phone to run all services correctly on your carrier... whether it be T-Mobile or anybody else.
My 1+1 ran most of the services and operated on my SIM card and phone number in my hometown area. But, when I went to another area or town, it would not register with or run on any carrier... NONE! not even roaming like it does at home. I had to go to MetroPCS (on T-Mo network) and get my phone activated onto their system for it to run data, and 4G LTE. By just inserting the SIM card does not automatically sign your phone into the system and you should call or go to a dealer store and get it turned onto your particular carrier to run the network correctly.
Hope this clarifies my statement.
I never had to register or the like with my OPO for t-mobile. Didn't have to with my wife's OPO either.
It's a common enough issue across carriers. Sometime you do have to register the phone, and make sure you have the correct APN settings.
I just gave my daughter my OPO, I had Consumer Cellular (ATT) SIM in it. She dropped in her T-Mobile SIM and off she went, working perfectly. She's been using the phone about 2 weeks now, and in response to your question, I just checked her aPN, since I knew it's been working perfectly for her, only to discover the phone pulled in a MetroPCS APN! It's been working so well, she doesn't want me to change it to the T-Mobile APNs that are in the list.
Here is her APN settings (Calif-San Diego area), MetroPCS
name MetroPCS LTE
apn fast.metropcs.com
MMSC http://metorpcs.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
mcc 310
mnc 260
apn type default,mms,supl
apn protocol IPV4
apn roaming protocol IPV4
mvno type none

What APN is you OPO set to?
I had just popped in the SIM card and it did work in my local area. But when I went outta town, my phone wouldn't connect to any services, no roaming either. I use MetroPCS on T-Mobile network, and nothing would run without activation on their system and registering the IMEI. So, results may vary depending on the carrier or area.

registering
I am a frequent visitor to the USA from Canada. Usually with my original Samsung or Nexus rdware from Canadian carriers, but unlocked.
Each US carrier has insisted on registering my IMEI prior to activating a SIM. It seems to the user you can pull a SIM and place in any old device and most times, no problem. But that's not the carrier approved method.
T-MO was very insistent on this. To the point they would not activate a SIM for me with out the device and the IMEI first
Hopefully registering with your carrier solves this. It's a thing and may be the point of issue for you.
