AntonX kernel - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was this kernel for a couple days and it was almost perfect. However after a couple hours voodoo sound app would tell me the rom author broke the app and the kernel didnt support voodoo sound. I tried googling but no real answer as to how to fix it.
I downloaded the voodoo app from the devs site and uninstalled the one I had installed from play store. After I installed the app everything worked for a couple hours then the popup message about it being broke. A reboot would solve it but shortly after it would break.
This only happened on the versions with oc/uv natively activated. Finally used gremlin remover and started over. Only I flashed v1 and the voodoo app from the dev site. So far everything seems good.
Has anybody else noticed this? I like the voodoo sound processor better than dsp or the beats audio ports.

yes, also when there was no voodoo sound, just voodoo lagfix. Sometimes reinstalling the Voodoo app from market fixes this, sometimes you have to reinstall the rom. I think files get corrupted.

I seems that Supercurio (author of Voodoo Sound app) checks if his app was installed from market, even if it's free. This means that this app cannot be pre-installed with a ROM, it has to be downloaded by the user. Nothing really bad about it, just uninstall with Titanium and reinstall from market.

I think I figured it out. I could reproduce the results by using tegrak on the oc/uv native kernel like you would on the non-native oc/uv kernel.
@AntonX yes it is to avoid the cracked apps from being used. However he also has the app listed on his own site.

Hey, I have a question: Why don't we use NoLED instead of BNL as NoLED is free, too and it doesn't drain battery so much (I'm using it and still get 15+ hours w heavy use - always OC to 1.4)...so, What is the advantages of BNL over NoLED? (Have everyone ever tried NoLED?)...

NoLED has never really required kernel support. I've tried it and didn't like it. Your screen stays on, it drains you battery. I've also tried BLN (BackLightNotifications), my screen stays off and my battery drains less than with NoLED. Now users have a choice, they can use whichever one they wish. User demand for BLN is higher because it's better.

Ya, I see, at first I also had the sreen always on but seem like it had option to turn of the screen use the sensor so when in pocket or be up side down, it not drain much, anw just bcause of your post, I will go and test BLN now and will mark on battery drainage btween BLN and NL w srnsor option thanx u

I prefer NoLED too. In my experience the difference in battery drain is negligible. I just got used to the customized notifications that NoLED provides. Being able to tell what type of notification I'm getting without having to unlock the phone is very useful.

Hi guys
I have found that all AntonX's kernels after ver. 1b3 are having trouble to have more than 65MB RAM free working with Adrenaline Shot 14.1.
On ver. 1b3 I have 118MB RAM free without a problem.
For me it is fine, since I couldn't care less about UV/OC. Phone is already fast & battery drained as it as.

If i'm using VB final, what's the ideal kernel for me to use, to OC my phone?

So I just installed re installed tegrak today to boost up to a 1.2 (that's what I've always run). When I opened it I found it was already clocked at 1.4? I thought you had to enable the OC before it took effect?

I'm pretty sure that tegrak will see those higher frequencies regardless if you've set them... It should limit itself to whatever you set under governor scaling

so real odd issue. If Im plugged into my computer charging app that run off the sdcard will not load. The sdcard is still mounted icons show up just fine but various apps will not load or lag. As soon as I unplug it they will load perfect. This only happens with usb charging.

[Q] No audio from video recordings...maybe ROM related? [SOLVED]

Update-Solutions added
This thread kinda rambles, and covers a couple different issues.
I'll try to summarize the solutions to each to time and eliminate extra reading for those who might end up here later.
Issue #1: My Mesmerize was not recording sound with videos
Solution: Go into Voodoo Sound Control app (download from market if you don't have it) and under [recording profile], select "Original". Solved!
Issue #2: I was having various minor issues that sounded as thought they might be fixed by flashing a new kernel.
scarmon25 suggested that I try out OTB-Reloaded. He was right, this is a great kernel! It allows overclocking and undervolting at the same time. I'm hoping this will give me both better performance and greater battery life.
Solution: Backup everything (Nandroid and TiBackup suggested), Flash the new kernel from recovery (you can use ROM manager to boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery) and reboot.
I'm not about to get into a discussion of backups, recovery, flashing, which kernel you need, etc... This is just a plug/endorsement for the OTB-reloaded kernel, period.
Issue #3: At some point while updating to 2.2 Froyo and flashing new kernels, ROMs, etc... my home screen started rotating along with my apps. I could turn rotation on/off from the notification tray, but that disabled it for apps also.
Solution: It was pointed out by add144 that it's the home screen launcher that controls home screen rotation.
I'm running LauncherPro, be he mentioned that most other launchers (ADW, GO Launcher, etc...) also have the ability to allow or lock home screen rotation.
In my case (LauncherPro), here's the process for locking your homescreen rotation while still allowing auto-rotation in other apps:
1) From home screen, go to Menu (button) -> Preferences
2) Select Behavior Settings
3) Uncheck "Enable Auto-rotation"
4) Done!
I hope this summary saves someone some time and fruitless searching.
Cheers!

----Original message follows---
Hi all,
I apologize for this question being a bit light on useful details, but my memory isn't so great.
I have a Mez, running 2.2 Froyo (updated from USCC), a custom ROM (I think), and a custom kernel (not sure which one).
I know that sounds insane, but there was a time a while back when I was flashing different things trying to find something that worked to my liking, and honestly just can't remember what combination I settled on.
It doesn't help that I'm still fuzzy on the whole ROM vs Kernel thing.
Anyway, here's the issue...
The videos I record on the phone have no sound.
You can hear a little background hiss, but no actual sound from the mic.
I can't remember if it worked before I updated to 2.2, but I suspect it did or I think I'd have noticed it before.
I guess I could flash everything back to stock and see if that fixes it, but I'd REALLY rather not do that, since it would take me so long to get it back sorted.
Is there a way to figure out exactly what I currently have installed on the phone?
Also, can anyone think of things I can do to troubleshoot the no audio issue?
Thanks in advance,
-Mike
This sounds like a issue I had on one of the earlier voodoo kernels. The fix was to download the voodoo control appear from the market and set recording preset to normal. This was fixed in the later releases of voodoo. Do you know which kernel your are on. That would help us narrow it down for you.
Edit. If you download the cpu spy app from the market you can pull your info up and see which kernel your on. It won't say exactly which one but should have the authors name in it so we can know which one your on to an extent.

Thanks for the quick reply scarmon.
I checked my voodoo sound options (already had the app) and I don't have a 'normal' recording preset.
My choices are:
Original
Balanced (new default) - with DRC
High Sensitivity - with DRC
Loud Environment - with DRC
I assume this means I have one of the newer versions of voodoo sound?
I'll get that cpu spy app and see what it says about my kernel.
Thanks!

I wonder why the "new" profiles don't work?
Is it a limitation of this phone or a problem with voodoo?
The newer voodoo kernels have that issue fixed. I believe it was just a issue with the first few ec10 voodoo kernels. May wanna try one of the new OTB or imnuts kernels. The recording works on those as I have tried both.

Good to know, thanks.
Is updating to one of those kernels you mentioned a simple 'boot to recovery and flash zip from SD card' or something more?
Here's a screenshot of my current kernel info from cpu spy...
Does that help any? I don't recognize that author.
EDIT: That OTB kernel sounds really interesting.
Please refer to my above question about the simplicity or complexity of flashing that kernel over the one I have now.
Yeah u flash in CWM. If your on voodoo and 2.2 then you shouldn't have any issues. If u go with OTB make sure to get the voltage control app. So u can adjust it. Just go easy on the over clock and undervolting till u see how your phone reacts. If u go with OTB let me know and I will post my settings. Been running them for a while and they seem pretty stable.
Edit. Switched to PC to correct my spelling.

The above is what I'd try first. If you still find that you're having issues even with a new kernel, I'd consider flashing a new ROM as well.

K, This is what I have been running and it seems pretty stable for me. Keep in mind each phone is different and yours may not respond as well, or it may do even better then mine. I would suggest using the apply for now option in voltage control for a few days and once you know there good, you can apply at boot. Also nemisses included and great feature in CWM that allows you to remove boot settings in the event that you set something at boot and it doesn't work. You will get this once you flash the OTB v1.3 kernel. This will update CWM and the feature is under the advanced section of CWM if you need it. Here's the settings I have been using.
For the Scheduler I use BFQ
I set the Max Clock to 1200mhz
I have the following step and voltage drops enabled
200 mhz -100
400 mhz -100
600 mhz -75
800 mhz -75
1000 mhz -75
1200 mhz -50
With theses settings I am getting about a day of moderate use from my battery and great performance. You may play around with it and may get better results. Hope this helps.
OTB 1.3?
The thread I was watching only goes to v1.2 for OTB-reloaded.
What am I missing?
I also noticed that is was technically a Fascinate kernel, is that a problem?
It works on the mesmerize too. That's what I'm on. There should be a link in the OP that's has v 1.3. Its he second link at the bottom of the OP

Okay, I think I see the issue.
I was looking at this thread, whereas I think you're referring to this thread, right?
What's the difference between those 2 kernels, other than the OTB version?
one is Touch wiz and one is AOSP. If you are on stock Froyo you need touchwiz. AOSP will not work on stock ROM. You posted in the right one for OTB. This is the one you need for Stock Froyo

I don't think I'm on stock froyo, though.
As far as I can tell, I'm running SuperFrankenClean 0.292.
I base this on the files I found on my SD card while I was moving some stuff around just now.
In any case, it sounds like the touchwiz kernel is the one I need.
I'm downloading it now and will flash in a few.
Let me know if it looks like I'm about to frag something and I'll wait.

OOPS! That should be SuperFrankenClean 2.9.2 ROM and EC10_ulv_voodoo kernel....I think.
Does that change anything?
Wait. Let me pull that ROM and I can tell you.

not really, left mine at 1.3 for about 3 days with light, moderate, and heavy use. I didn't notice anything but beauty. recent reboot with a couple of mods and i haven't OC'd it again. (don't see much of a need for it with the kernel/roms out there)

Depends on how sensitive the chip is. Mine has minor stability issues at 1.3 but at 1.25 or 1.2 is fine.

I had mine at 1.3 for a bit and it was just fine, but usually I just go to 1.2.
I had mine oc'd to 1.2 just to play it safe but now im running KC1 with the bali uv kernel and i really dont see any reason to be OC'd. Both KD1 and KC1 are fine without OC once installing the new kernel. THANKS TO DRHONK!!!!!!!!!!! My battery life has increased by at leist 30% now that my phone has had a couple of days to adjust. I also use an app called Green Power Pro wich has many features but one i like best is the ability to have your data turn off when u lock the phone and back on once u turn on the screen again. This prevents all the things that run when data is on from draining the phone when its on but not in use. I have seen a big difference in bat life since using this feature on this app.(data is your internet connection so when the data is off u still get your calls and text as long as ur not using an app that needs internet access for either of the two.)

I posted it here because I am asking about LG G2x users. In the script thread, you won't find questions about specific devices so much. It's more on how to install, what does it do, and so on.
I tried it didn't bootloop or anything but I didn't notice any difference in performance etc.
I just started using the V6 supercharger about a month and a half ago on my LG G2x and have loved it. before this i was running minfree to change presets but I like V6 because it has lots of options for those that don't fully understand what the presets do. If you use a low setting you probably wont notice much of a difference and I must say that I notice the biggest difference when I am overclocked and using V6 at the same time. If I'm not overclocked and using V6 I don't notice much. same thing when I am just overclocked without V6, not much of a diff. Both together seem to be great.
Also to those with boot loop problems - how long are you leaving your phone before you decide it has looped...a few times i have just had to walk away from my phone for 15-20 minutes just so I'm not tempted to pull the battery and every time i have left it alone i come back to everything running fast, smooth and stable.

Yeah, "I get a performance gain when I'm overclocked with the script, but get no performance gain without OC and the script" so that would be the placebo effect.
However, V6 SuperCharger does work very well at setting the right OOM groupings and also makes everything a lot smoother for me. I'm underclocked to 750mhz and get the performance of the stock 1ghz.

Eh, maybe, if you're on a lower end phone, I think the effect would be more noticeable as well, it would also be noticed if you ran alot of apps at once since multi tasking will take up more RAM than for someone like me who listens to music and browses the forum and maybe uses maps if I don't feel like paying attention to where I am at on the bus.

All true, but in hypocrats case it is complete placebo since he is using the lower setting.
He says he notices a performance gain with overclocking and the script, but none without overclocking and the script. Performance gain was all overclock.
But the higher settings work well, the script makes everything smooth, even for me at 750mhz, and will fix OOM groupings.
Maybe, but my battery life is better in standby and I have less issues with the stock internet browser. Below 100mb free and it became very buggy for me. I would love it if everyone shared what rom they are using and their settings. I am using close to the recommended settings.I am using New Clip (weapon based) and #5 unleaded.

Freeze issue on Imnuts' 1/15 kernel

I'm having an annoying issue with my Charge. Whenever I try to record with the Camera the phone just freezes and reboots after about 10 seconds. Yes I'm undervolted, which is what I'm suspecting as the issue but I went into Voltage Control and set the voltages back to 0 and to no avail, it still just froze and rebooted. I tried overclocking to 1.2Ghz without undervolting that clock speed at all(1GHz and below were still all undervolted) and it still just froze and rebooted.
The weird thing is this happens on the stock undervolt settings that the kernel comes with. I'm going to assume Imnuts' just didn't have the time to test all the apps individually for stability issues when implementing his undervolt script. I know it's an issue with the kernel(almost positive it's from the undervolting itself because i had stability issues exactly like this back on EE4 when i would undervolt) because if I reboot and flash imoseyons 4.0.0 kernel recording is fixed.
edit: I just tried removing my Voltage Control boot settings so there shouldn't be any undervolting going on(aside from the stock undervolt script thats included with the kernel) and it still just freezes and reboots. I'm guessing it's either the undervolt script or the kernel itself. Anyone else have this issue? If so how'd you fix it? Thanks in advance.

While I never use the camcorder at that resolution, I tried it now and had the same freeze-up. Running tweakstock (fancy that lol) and pbj kernel - I tried this without any voltage control-style modifications. I of course can be (and most likely am) completely off on that, just thought I'd mention it.

Yeah I remember back when Gummy2.0 was released I had that issue. I know it's not the same thing though because whenever I would record it would give me an error message like "This SD card does not support HD video recording" or something like that and it would just close the camera app, it wouldnt just freeze and reboot.

I'm positive it's not a problem with the SD card. I'm on Tweakstock so for now it's to be assumed that the kernel is the problem since cujo6801 already tested Eclipse with Imos kernel and had no problem, but adrenaline_rush tested Eclipse with Imnuts' kernel and it froze/rebooted. Pretty sure it's a kernel issue at this point.

Try your actual Camera and attempt to record video @ 1280/720, then tell me if it reboots.
I got the freeze and reboot every time with Eclipse and PBJ at 720p. Flashed Tweakstock with PBJ and it worked. Then tried Eclipse with the ep4d kernel and that worked too. I thought it might be the camera so I copied the one from from Tweakstock into Eclipse and 720p recording worked fine undervolted and oc'd to 1200.
Edit: Tried it again since reflashing updated Eclipse and it locked at 10 seconds. Guess I was lucky last time. Shot multiple 45 second plus videos ok.

Checked the comments on Imnuts' kernel over at RootzWiki and i can confirm it's a problem with the kernel, in addition to that the HDMI port doesnt seem to work.
I have been getting froze screens and 1 reboot also, since running imnuts kernel. I thought it was maybe the ROM but doing a little research IM finding the kernel has an issue. Also be careful overclocking on PBJ, I set it to 1600 max on SetCPU, and after a few moments it froze and rebooted. When it rebooted, as soon as SetCPU was granted SU, there goes another freeze. I wasn't able to change the settings due to the freeze, and after a few reboots I was taken to the setup screen like you would see after a factory reset. But this came with random F/C errors and lots of non-functional apps. You can't do anything at this point but restart from stock+PIT and go up from there. Reflashing the ROM, kernel, restoring, even ODINing another ROM won't rid the F/C hell.
Same thing as this, when I tried to use the Voodoo screen tuner:

Oh also people stated imyosen kernel was a battery drain, but it's been very good on battery so far.

Desperately need your help on this issue

Hey,
Have been asking this forever and I really need help for I have tried everything. My Droid Charge just spikes up in CPU usage to 100% and stays there forever never coming down. This usually happens when I am driving and using my GPS and also my bluetooth is connected to the car fm modulator. During this point of time I can't go into any other app to check which app is taking up the cpu cycles and kill it. My only option is to reboot. Can someone please let me know:
1. Is there any app that records cpu usage so that I can diagnose as to what is causing this problem. I don't need an app that tells me which app is using CPU at this point of time since I won't be able to run this app since my phone just freezes. So I need an app that records cpu usage rather that reports it right now.
2. If the above is not possible is there an app that can be used to kill the app that is taking up maximum cpu and something that can be triggered using a hardware switch(like a power button).
3. Will changing the kernel etc. help at all. Right now I am running 2.6.35.7-FP1. Can I flash a kernel without having reload all my apps and data?
have you tried pbj here? http://rootzwiki.com/topic/137-05-24-12peanutbutta-jelly-time/
It says it has low memory killer settings. Now Imnuts may be able to give more insight on what exactly what this setting is. It may help
Also, this may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651682
Watchdog task manager lite will do this.

My version already reads 2.6.35.7-FP1 so that means PBJ has already been installed right?
If you have installed pbj yourself, it is not installed unless you flashed tweaked 2.1 in either case i recommend reflashing it anyways and make sure to mount system. Also use cpu spy to monitor what is using your cpu.
Also change your cpu governor in voltage control, I use smartass v2 but conservative might be better for you.
I had installed TweakStock1.4 and I believe it came with pbj TweakStock1.4PBJext4.zip. How do I confirm that pbj is installed. The rootzwiki page rootzwiki.com/topic/137-05-24-12peanutbutta-jelly-time/said that the kernel version should read 2.6.35.7-FP1.

The PBJ that came with Tweakstock 1.4 is an outdated one, if that's the last one you installed. If so the latest PBJ is the one with the fixed values, so you should flash that (remember make sure to mount /system in CWM) and it should help.
I believe the pbj that came with that combo is older than what i linked to. Just download it and flash it just in case. It won't hurt anything and its like 6mb so it takes like 1 minute to download if that. It may not make a difference but at least you will be on a current kernel.
I can actually just upgrade to Tweak2.1 but I was wondering will it wipe out all my apps and make reinstall everything again.

From 1.4 - Well, nothing will make you do a data wipe, but you should.
From 2.0 - No need to, and again nothing will make you do a data wipe.

just know updating to 2.1 alone doesn't change the kernel. I suggest you flash the new tweakstock then go ahead and flash the newest pbj kernel.
System Tuner in the play store will also log CPU usage by app

The proper line is "Never use Task Killers". Task Managers are perfectly fine.

Watchdog isn't a traditional task killer. It watches for background tasks that are using the CPU excessively and notifies you. It's great for tracking down misbehaving apps.
I installed CPU spy and Watchdog. My system frooze twice today while running Google Navigation and cpu spy told me that my cpu was used at 1000MHz at 93% which is correct but then Watchdog raised no flags or alerts. It always shows 'Android System' as the biggest CPU consumer in my list. It doesn't show Google Navigation or Maps at all in the list. Is Watchdog just reporting on currently running apps or is there any preference I haven't set?
It only shows running apps, and it only raises alerts for background apps. Anything that's in the foreground or visible isn't going to raise an alert.
Here is a thread http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/203542-100-cpu-usage-but-doesnt-add-up.html stating that the problem could be happening because of a weak 4g/3g signal and the phone trying to switch. Is there anything that can cause a smoother switch?

Unfortunately, if it's a weak 4G signal causing the issue, the only solution would be a stronger 4G signal. Otherwise, it will drop to 3G and continually churn while trying to get back to 4G.
I work in an area with little to no 4G signal. I just toggle to 3G mode when I'm at work. Frankly, for battery purposes, I just stay on 3G unless I need 4G speed. None of my background processes need that much bandwidth and if I'm actively doing something, toggling back and forth is simple.
I just updated my kernel with PBJ0504. However, how do I figure out if the PBJ has installed correctly? My kernel version is still the same 2.6.35.7-FP1? Is this PBJ 0504?
