Does not work. On initial run it gives a notification that it couldnt back up the stock bootanimation. Selecting preference fc's the app. Does not change the boot animation. Places several wrongly named double zipped bootanimations in the /system/customize/resources, /data/local, and /system/media folders. Should be named VZW_bootanimation.zip, in the system /customize/resources folder. The restore option dosent work as their is nothing to restore. The stock backup fails, and i see no option to do a backup, so that i could restore a backup.

For AOSP Roms, the animation is stored in data/local. For Sense roms, it is stored in /system/media or /system/customize/resource, for sense 3 devices, it uses bootanimation.zip, sense 4 is htc_bootanimation.zip. If you could send me the errors for the problem, i would be more than glad to help.
I have a Dinc, and I couldn't find anything wrong with it on there.
Again, please send me the error and i would be happy to help.

Am i ment to get an error code from somewhere? First error is a notification, failed to backup stock animation.
Second error is a force close when selecting preferences.
Third problem is no way to back up and nothing to restore.

On stock rooted gingerbread 2.3.4 the boot animation is located in /system/customize/resource, and is named VZW_bootanimation.zip. Im sure thats one of the issues, you need to include VZW_bootanimation.zip as a file to backup and replace. Never mind about the double zipped stuff i mentioned earlier, im just blind. Also this way of getting the right system wastes a lot of space creating multipul files when only one is needed. Your app should search for the correct file path, when it finds it, it should back it up and replace only the stock file.
Not trying to be a downer or offend you, just saying.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I just (Hopefully) fixed the incompatibility issues with the stock Dinc. Believe it or not, that was what I was currently working on for the next update. I haven't had much time, and that was just my quick way of making sure it worked on all of the supported phones. Please tell me if the app doesn't work again. PM me because It'll be easier to talk that way. Try downloading it again on the market, I updated the apk.
Thank You again

try it again, fixed a stupid bug

Ok seems to be working now. However some of the animations are formated wrong such as "blue hole". If i install the "blue hole" and then go look it is a correctly named zip, but appears to be a flashable package. It contains 2 folders meta-inf and system which contains a folder named media, and then the actuall bootanimation.

sorry about that. That's me being up till 4 or 5 in the morning trying to add animations after a night of coding. That's an easy fix which i'm doing right now.

Just went through all of the animations... you ended up downloading the only one that had the problem... haha

Only other issue i see is when restoring an animation, it still restores it everywhere, instead of just the roms proper location. Other than that great job. Here are a couple more animations if you would like to add them http://dinc.does-it.net/Boot_Animations/Blue_Particles_VZW_bootanimation.zip and http://dinc.does-it.net/Boot_Animations/Green_Particles_VZW_bootanimation.zip.

Thanks. As said before, I will add that in the next version.
As for the animations, I wish I could add them. Unless you are the animator, I can't put them up for legal purposes. Sorry and I hope you understand. If you ever know of any animators trying to get their stuff out there, refer them to me and I'll put their stuff on my app.
Thank you for helping me get support on the Stock Dinc.
I now realize that I was using a non-stock rom, and was unaware of verizon's change.

Which animation? I'll check it out for you. It is possible that is how fast the one animation is after it has loaded. But let me know which one and I'll see what I can do for you.

R2D2 Droid2 Boot Animation Ported to CM6 and Sense 2.1(with sound) [Updated 9/9/10]!

So I ported this over for you guys, apparently there is a sound (.ogg file) for this boot animation but its not included with this or the original zip. The sound seems to be part of the droid 2 rom and if any one can get it I'll gladly add it to the boot animation (d2_r2d2_pu.ogg). There might be some trimming as the resolution for the droid to is way bigger then the heros and I had to crunch it to make it fit. The original animation used jpegs and you might also see some color loss as I tried to make this run as smooth as possible for our heros.
This is a flashable zip so just copy it to your sd card and flash it through recovery. If it doesnt work that way go in and manually delete the /system/media/bootanimation.zip file first and the flash this file.
.... if you d/l from the thread post so that the thread stays bumped and I know people are actually using it.
I also have a completely new boot animation I've been working on and I think you guy will like look for it tomorrow or Friday .
Update:
About the sound, it seems that the droid 2 will have a new bootanimation implementation that allows for sounds to be defined in the desc.txt maybe when the droid comes out we can get a img dump and see what's going on... I tried to make this work for cm6 and short of me doing the c code myself its not going to work. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to checking out my own repo.
So the 2.1 version Does have sound but its not a looping sound... this seems to be how it was designed to work with the droid 2 bootanimation so I tried to sync it up as best I could... hope you guys like it.
D/L here cm6 version r2d2 boot animation cm6 flashable zip
D/L here 2.1 Sense version (with sound) r2d2 boot 2.1 animation flashable zip

I've looked into this and it doesnt seems possible... yet. It seems the Droid 2 's build of Android 2.2 has something in the boot animation process that allows sounds to be played. The desc.txt has an extra parameter that specifies a sound to be played for a parts of the animation. I'm looking into how hard it would be to and this to the boot animation code in AOSP 2.2.
Awesome! That sure didn't take long...
I gotta ask, is there any way this would work on any of the 2.1 roms, I tried CM6 and found it a lil buggy still for my everyday use and went back to another rom.

Um... well just to see if you needed to wipe or not b4 you install this updated rom, I installed it over batman 2.2.7 and when I booted I kept gettin g-talk errors. I suggest wipeing but the good thing is that the setup wizard is back and will pull your applications from the market for you.
anybody else lose their dialer. No phone icon on the dock or in applications folder...
Never mind!! I downloaded from my XDA app the first time and I guess I did not get a piece...worked fine with a computer download.

Try redownloading I'm in the process of switching servers because mediafire isn't the greatest, also do not download from the xda app there is a problem with the downloads on here it misses bits and pieces...
Also I gotta say I love Mammons work his rom's are always so stable and I do not have the time to produce anything to the even compare to his caliber of work right now, this is why I have borrowed his rom as a basis for this project.

They are not just mammon's rom's I do change certain things to my likeing... And I did just post a framework theme... If you want to make it a theme go right ahead and pull all of the apk's you need and make it an update it is super super easy...
pull from /system/app in the original rom zip
Contacts.apk
DialerTabActivity.apk
TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
pull from /system/framework in the original rom zip
framework-res.apk
twframework-res.apk
pull from /system/media/video/shutdown
all 60 of the pngs in this folder.
pull from /system/etc
PowerOn.wav
pull from /system/media/audio/ui
Power_off.ogg
shutdown.ogg
these are all of the themed apk's and files so far, I believe...
then download the 2.2.8.2 update zip I made place these in the same folders inside the zip as the original rom and viola a theme/update zip that you can test out on any rom you would like.
Also you might have to make a new folder or two for the shutdown animation, PowerOn.wav, shutdown, and Power_off.ogg inside the update.zip...
I know this theme works with this rom that is why I do it this way and I in no way recommend doing what I have suggested above, as I have no way of knowing if it will work with any other rom... I will say that it will most likely work with Mammon's...
O'yeah and it will change the build # in the about phone section to Superheroes 2.2.8.2 Batman (that is if anyone attempts this)
Also if you attempt this please let us know what roms it works with and please make sure there are no bugs b4 you post that it works with another rom...
I'm sorry I figure if you are going to risk even soft brickin your phone that I do not want to be respossible for it and you yourself can attempt this...
yea, I'm just gonna stick with this rom, thats a lot of work LOL.
is there anyway to fix the rotation speed? thats the only thing that sucks now, waiting 3 secs for the phone to switch from portrait to landscape. my wifes stock epic switches instantly.
True quadrant score of 1095 with this rom (no silly i/o hack)...
I just installed the latest version. I didn't wipe, everything seems fine but behind the keypad, there is some image, is that normal

honeycomb bootanimation

Hey all, I know this is old but I couldn't find the honeycomb bootanimation in these forums. I wanted it to fully complete my honeycomb theme for CM7, and after some digging around I managed to find it on another forum.
EDIT:As per request, I've made a few flashable zips for this bootanimation. I've tested each out and they should work if your using CWM3, sorry about the previous posting of flashable zip that didn't work! I've corrected the mistake and hope that you all enjoy this animation as much as I do.
If you haven't completely read this thread and are new to the rooting 'scene' each rom is different, the animations can be placed into different places depending on what your running be it /data/local/ , /system/media/ , or /system/customize/resource/ . It's up to YOU to know where it belongs as I've made each zip for each location. If you don't know where it belongs, get to reading your roms thread in the Dev section and see if there is any information there.
And remember.. NANDROID first!! I will not be held responsible for anything happening to your phone or life because of this. Although if the flash fails you'll either be left with your original animation or a black screen. I'd much rather you use Root Explorer or some other file manager with root access to do this so you'll know where to place the bootanimation.zip in the future.. but thats completely up to you.
Enjoy and let me know if this works/doesn't work and I'll do my best to help you- I'm not a serious developer nor will I take the title of devoloper as I only have a basic understanding of code and how the android system works.
Anyone want to make this a flashable zip? I would be eternally greatful! Also what are the dimensions on this guy? Fit an incredible screen?
Yup I have it running on mine and it looks GORGEOUS.

I've tried other apps that say root explorer, but couldn't get them to work. They might work but I bought root explorer, easy and well worth the money. On two different roms i've used you have to place the zip in system \customize\resource and name it exactly like the existing bootanimation. Same with audio. Example VZW_bootanimation.zip just rename original adding (.bak) incase you need to go back.

I agree, root explorer is a valuable tool if your planning on customizing your phone out. Its well worth the money and has replaced every file manager I've ever used. Great for me since I like to do things on the fly when I'm not home.

get "Absolute System Root"
Changes fonts and bootanim with one click.
What permissions should it have? So far I've been unable to get it to work. I either get the default "android" or a black screen. Either way it boots anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's just fun to change things around some.

Same thing happened for me. Got the default android boot animation.

This is what mine is set up as, where have you guys placed the zip file? Depending on your rom you may have to rename it to " vzw_bootanimation.zip " try that out.

This is an app you can run from your rooted phone to odex your framework and system apps (has option to also odex data/app but its not recommended). The app will automatically remove classes.dex from each apk as well. I've tested this on shift deck and cm7 ROMs also works on og evo. There's no test on the app so if you run it and you're already odex or not on a compatible ROM or whatnot; its still going to run.. It was originally made for the evo shift but it has been tested successfully on the Evo on kush deck rom and CM7 nightlies (it checks to see if its a shift or original evo and mounts accordingly). This is for Gingerbread AOSP ROMs and hasn't been tested on sense (bootclasspath is different so it's likely it will not work).
Make sure you have a fresh nand before using, just in case.
Recommended usage: Press button "Odex System Framework". Let it do its thing then press "Odex System Apps" (be patient, takes several minutes to complete). While running, don't interrupt it.
Other option "Odex Framework + System Apps" works fine as well but not as safe as running separately.
"Odex Data Apps" isn't recommended, its an option I put in but I don't even use.
Always remember, you must odex framework before system/apps!
Keep in mind, apps are going to force close while the script is running. Also dalvik cache is deleted when it goes through system/apps so when it reboots; you will likely have to setup your widgets again and may have to sign back into gapps.
Big thanks to Dodgejcr for help with the script.
Download: Odexer version 1.0
Screeny:
Does this odex sense based roms as well? This sounds good though.
edit: dang it...should've paid more attention to the post got my answer... question: do you plan to make a deodexer as well...just curious.

I've never tried to be honest. As I said in the OP, I don't think it will but if someone wants to try (and make a nand first) that would be cool. At least report back and let us know lol.
Edit: deodexing would be an ideal option however it takes java commands to deodex an app with baksmali so unfortunately its not an option. For example: java -jar baksmali.jar -x :nameofjar.odex and those commands can't be run on the phone.
This looks cool. Soon we won't even need our computers to hack and mod our phones lol.
Trying this on Merge. Will follow up, Thanks!
Good job man. Previously I've accomplished this with bash scripts. I'd like to see where this goes. Like option to search for bootclasspath and automatically use the it, instead of having a dedicated one (which limits the app). Good job
Edit. If you are interested, I can make this work on Sense.
Edit 2. Man. This has me really intrigued now I looked through the app. One more thing that needs to be implemented is the removal of classes.dex. Once Odexed, you don't need classes.dex. It simply takes up space.

Classes.dex is automatically removed. Also, I'm planning on adding the option to select an apk to odex (individually) and thinking about finding the bootclasspath maybe by looking in init.rc but that's a thought.

Great man. I must have missed where classes.dex gets removed.
It won't be a bad idea to add single apk odex. It never hurts to have more options.

Asking for permission...
Hi
I just modified your odex_system_frame_app.sh for it to work with htc desire.
It is working well for my ROM. Is it alright for you if I share the modded script for the HTC Desire community ?
I will post only the script, not the whole apk.
Thanks in advance for your kind permission.

Looking forward to being able to odex just a single apk individually. Any idea when that option might be implemented? Thanks in advance for this wonderful app!!

[MOD][VRALG1] Enable Stock Mobile Hotspot (Tethering)

I want to say that I did not create this file. I just helped facilitate a speedy delivery of this file because I reached out to a dev friend so he could help us.
This single .apk file is intended for folks that are stock/rooted and want to get by with as many tweaks as possible without flashing a ROM or Theme. I know their are plenty of peeps out there that are just fine with being rooted only... hopefully this will add to your enjoyment of a nearly bone stock rom.
**Before you do anything make a backup of your framework-res.apk file which is located in system/framework**
**If you are on a themed rom, using this framework-res.apk will remove most of your theme and place you back to stock look**
**Rom devs and themers will need to take this framework-res.apk and add it to their themes and roms** (or decompile and create their own)
Credits:
Nitroglycerin33 for compiling and editing framework-res.apk
Electron73 for delivering the knowledge to our forum
Confirmed working on Stock OTA VRLG1
How to install:
Option A:
-Download the framework-res.apk to your C:\ drive or whatever folder you like on your PC.
-Mount your system folder on your phone as read/write
-Then push it via adb to your phone. Reboot. Profit
Option B:
If you don't feel comfortable using adb commands you can use root explorer and copy the framework-res.apk over to system\framework\ which will overwrite the existing framework file. This will cause your phone to freeze up immediately. Give it 2 minutes then simultaneously press the volume up + volume down + the power button until it goes into safemode. Once in safemode your phone will start responding. You can then reboot at this point which will automatically boot you out of safe mode. If you can't seem to get it into safe mode just yank the battery. I tested it this way to see if it works and it does. No harm done to the phone. I would make a back up of your framework-res.apk before doing this.

Works fantastic. Thank you very much Das7982, Nitroglycerin33 and Electron73.
Should be noted that this will effect the themes of certain roms as this is a stock framework-res.apks and not a themed one.

NS what's going to happen if you go from one version of the same ROM to another? Are you going to lose the hack?
Edit: Probably no if the hack is going to be part of the new ROM.

You would have to replace the framework-res.apk again. Only thing that will change that is if devs start baking them in. I for one plan to on any updates and or releases change that to allow this.

Haha working on it. Finally found an apktool that doesn't break everything when recompiling. Should have something up soonish hopefully now that I can start messing with this stuff.
Glad you like my rom that much

Hehehe. Joking man. You said in a previous post that you like joking. Backing down now?
Edit: Indeed after you update even the same ROM the framework.res is gone and you have to replace it again.

for the record I am using your stock rom and loving it. Feel free to use this apk if you need to. Not sure what would be easier, applying your themes to this apk or taking your existing themed apk and editing decompiled xml's. My guess is the latter if you know how to decompile and you can use notepad++. What apk tool do you use? Can you link me?

I already had done this mod before your guy posted one, I just had gone out to wash my car while I had time and he got it up before me. Either way it is a rather easy mod.
If I can even find the link to the apks tool I am using again I sure will. It has two apktool.jar files. One is 1.4.2 for decompiling and one is 1.4.3 for recompiling.

heres what i did. download the file. go to root browser and paste it to framework overwrite > yes
Good to have this mod published. Loving being able to use the native app despite VZW's attempt to thwart.
So, I tried pushing via adb but kept getting Read-only file system. So, tried adb remount and got Operation not permitted.
Anyway, I ended up using Root Explorer. Then, instead of pulling battery I tried a key combo: hold down Power and Volume +- at the same time for a few seconds and got in to Safe Mode; then just rebooted. That was cool cause I didn't want to have to pull the battery.
Thanks for posting guys.
Do I have to be on a rom to use this or can I just be stocked rooted?
Can you please post the changes needed in the framework apk, so anyone ca make the changes?
Works perfect via root explorer. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you Das7982, Nitroglycerin33 and Electron73. tested and confirmed working :good:

Stock rooted is what you need to be on. The Latest OTA to be exact. Match your rom version with the one in orginal post :highfive:
