Trinity Kernel Question - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey guys quick question. Is Trinity kernel a good kernel for battery or is it a battery vampire?

@zoppp, aint that the truth. but ill answer it. There's 2, to my knowledge, per rom. an ELP and T15. The difference is ones and ExtraLowPower, which in my opinion ate the battery faster. Currently, I'm running morfic. However, trinity and morfic are the top 2 kernels in my opinion. Use either one for better battery. You can also find battery tweak tips posted in almost every section.

Thats why theres a thanks button. K? Thanks

The Trinity ics kernel isn't great. Probably because morfic didn't put much time into it. There is no ics with good screen on battery life.

Well, then.... I fell rather dumb. Thanks for the clarity but why do they go by 2 different names. Many post in there roms as morfic and others as trinity [Der Kernel]?

Morfic is the user name of the developer and Trinity is the name of the kernel that he develops.

There is no best kernel. All the threads asking receive the same answer, that is that it all comes down to personal preference. Try them all and see what you like best.

yow dude! so based on your experience, which kernel do you prefer?
I tried Trinity, drains my battery faster than usual.
I've been using Matr1x, but some people have had issues. That's why I really can't recommend anything other than that you try a few and see what works best for you.

I didn't say there were anything wrong with the kernel (I wouldn't use it myself if that were my belief) , I simply stated the fact that some people have run into some issues (S.O.D., etc.).

Sleep of Death, phone goes into sleep mode and freezes. Raising the Voltages helps.
I have tried every kernel out there & have had trouble in some form with all of them, except for the Glados Kernel. Rock solid stable, & a nice balance of performance / battery life. Using NStools allows you to get the most out of the kernel. I use it with live OC set at 105, & the lazy governer. This is what works well for me, it may differ for your phone.

Thats a adventure you have to take alone
in all seriousness you gotta try out Trinity =]
Check out the kernels in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283031
The nice thing about it is the availability of the 1320MHz frequency (if needed), yet you can run an undervolted setting most of the time and enjoy great battery life.
Most other kernels seem to be either fast or good on battery, here you get both in one package. Give it a test drive!

I'm using Trinity now with 1.54 OC. It's snappy but drains battery fast.
A millionth time I've seen such a thread, and a millionth time I say the same - "Its your own personal choice..."
Not angry or such but just trying to make a joke...
I'm pretty much happy with the Matr1x Kernel, Netarchy dies on me, GLaDos is pretty good too, Trinity dies on me too...
by the way, MIUI has its own kernel? When you flash MIUI, what kernel do you get in default?

Whys it all the way up :O i mean OC'd just install TUV and use LiveOC 110 =/
It'll just OC it to about 1110 Mhz + 10% clock increase of the GPU

Eaglesblood + Faux = awesome!

I've had my phone for about 6 weeks now, using a CM7 -based rom (won't name names). The battery life was horrible, the phone was always warm to the touch, and it locked-up often. The SOD happened probably every other charge. I was intending to dump the phone for something else, but after reading many recommendations, I loaded the latest release of Eaglesblood and Faux kernel.
What a difference! My phone is always cool to the touch now. It hasn't locked-up, and no SOD (knock on wood). I'm coming up on a week now with zero problems. If I don't use the phone much, I can get 2 days or more on a charge (unthinkable before). Just wanted to pass along what working for me.

i think what he meant is eb is not optimized for tirinity kernel. (to be honest i am not sure which one specifically, i personally never used the ics eb, and i think the gb eb is still using faux by default?)

Trinity kernel is so old though... and yes, EB does use Faux by default. Or maybe I flash Faux on every rom so it seems like it is... hmmm... Either way, Faux's kernels are amazing.

[Q] recommended kernel ?

HI guys
Im currently using MIUI US Rom ver 2.4.6 with stock kernel. can anyone recommend me a fast and stable kernel compatible with this rom?
Will these do the trick?
I've heard only good things about Trinity, but I stopped using MIUI a long time ago, it's pretty outdated at this point.
I personally use the Trinity kernel when running MIUI but some prefer Faux123's kernel. It tends to be you choose which ever one is the most stable for your phone as not all are created equal. The other thing to note is that if you flash the kernel straight from morfic it will cause you to loose the ability to set themes and keep them after a reboot.
I have the modified Trinity Kernels that you can get to try and they both are flashable from CWM and have the theme fixes.
They are both found here >>Trinity Kernel<<
If you want to know the difference between them go to morfics thread and the explanations are there.
thanks for the elaborated explanation and the Trinity builds. but what stability lose am i to experience? i flashed 4 hours ago ELP build and i have no problems with the themes.
You aren't necessarily going to experience stability issues. It is just a possibility you could. If you aren't then you will be fine.
I do suggest that you get setcpu so you can set the clock speed to the 1.1ghz that the kernel wants to default to but the os pushes it down to 1.0. But it is not a nessecity.

The Destroyer
I would use The Destroyer16. I've seen many MIUI G2x's run stable and decent battery life (with a little UV) with this kernel. Plus 1.6ghz max will rip benchmark scores like crazy. Only good for gb 2.3.7 MIUI IMO. You can find it in the huge Trinity thread under g2x development.

dont do this unless you know what your doing. it works on any CM7 based rom, but its very unstable and really only used for testing and benchmarking.

Nobody can tell you which Kernel will work best for whatever ROM you wish to use it for because even though we have the 'same' phone, they are not all equally built. What may work with amazing battery life and performance to one person, might be terribly sluggish with terrible battery life for the next person. The only real way to tell which ROM+Kernel combo works best for your phone is to try every Kernel you think your phone 'likes'. Whether we all want to admit it or not, that is probably the best way.
Hope this helped, Good luck!

Are there any kernels that work with CM7.2 RC1 that both allow for OC/(UV) and don't completely break the accellerometer?
I have tried Trinity and Faux. I would really like to get back to ridiculous battery life from this extended battery pack.

Trinity Kernels
I recently installed the Trinity Kernel and I don't really feel like I see a difference in my phone. I feel like my battery has shown no improvement. I installed the ti5 one but maybe I'll try the ELP one instead to see if I get anything different. I'm really looking for longer battery life. I used the phone theses days for about 30min of music a day (subway ride) and browsing here and there. Turned all syncing and app notifications off.
Check out the attached photos. I've seen screenshots of people with bar graphs showing their device at the top way ahead of everyone else.

Poll: Trinity vs Faux

Just gauging how many of you are still using Trinity kernel considering it hasn't been updated in months, while Faux is continually working on his kernel.
I've noticed freezing/overheating issues with Faux but I like that it's updated often enough.
Edit: By no means am I putting down Trinity kernel, just interested in the numbers

Trinity has been solid for a long time. My phone works much better with it. No need to update for the sake of updating.
Harsh is far better for.both of my g2x

On GB:
I prefer Trinity. It's been stable for some time and I can run my G2x for 35+ hours on moderate use. I've used Faux, but somehow I came back to Trinity.
On ICS:
I used Harsh when I was on ICS. But my experience in ICS generally has not been good (LG/NVidia not releasing drivers). So I came back to GB.
I prefer Faux
Trinity works better on my g2x. I think faux is a bit more aggressive, and my phone just acts better with the more conservative kernel.

On stock based 2.3.4 I like the stock kernel or Faux 014b2. On CM7 based I prefer TrinityELP for stability and batt life. I do find since Faux's 050 builds battery seems as good as ELP, and Faux has seemed to make scrolling super smooth. But Faux is still just a bit unstable on my phone. I am currently using the djvoleur adaptation of Harsh for CM7 roms. Its good too. I've had no probs with flashing between any of these kernels other than LED touch keys cannot be set to off when using Faux or Harsh.
I am a fan of all 3 - really...
Trinity ELP for GB
I tried everything out there and always go back to that. Fast, smooth, and good battery life. Plus it seems to be the only one that my phone's bluetooth can stay connected to my car's stereo. with other kernel (maybe coincidence), the two refuse to connect after a few connect/disconnect cycles.
also, many people say 24+ hr of moderate use. Is that with stock battery?
to me, moderate use = 3-4hr screen on time. 1hr phone call. wifi, BT, 4G, GPS always left on. 50% screen brightness. I typically get 12-18hr with trinity.
Heavy would be 5+hr screen on and more
Trinity gives me sleep of death, faux overheats and freezes I'm using the kernel that came with cm7 without any problems. Though I did get the SOD before I installed the build.prop tweaks

I've always been a big fan of morfic's Trinity ELP kernel (dated Feb. 6th, 2012). Unfortunately I don't see this kernel linked on his old site (just the ones dated in 2011).
faux all the way!!!!
